So I have a bunch dust in my screen, and a noticeable leak in the corner where its coming from.
So i call HTC and set up a "Swap" they tell me they need a "credit card on file that they will not charge" I give the number wait 2 days... no email.
I call again and they tell me they need to CHARGE my card 530$ before sending the replacement phone. My card doesn't have that kind of room left because I just bought the phone for 530$. Cant really dish out 1060$ on a phone in a week.
So at this point I'm angry and I tell the woman I'd just like to return the phone. Now I'm informed that I cannot return my phone because its ENGRAVED.
My only option is a repair in which i wont have a phone for close to a month.
Pretty awesome considering I just got this phone less than a week ago.

this. .
the no returning after an engraving is something I'd expect.
Now, that it will take a month with no phone to get it fixed? Thats just wrong. I choose to not get it in graved to get it faster, but looking back it seems like it was the best decision to make.
It's just an authorization they place on your card until they get your phone back so that you don't run with two phones. That seems pretty reasonable to me. I'd work out a way of being able to do that... you won't have to pay the bill.
What's odd is that I'm getting a swap as well (dead pixel), now granted I haven't heard anything new from them as yet, however I was told that my credit card won't have any sort of hold on it.
yeah, its just a hold on that amount, but you still need that amount as available credit on the card..
that sucks though...i place my initial order with engraving, but my order didnt go through because i didnt have that much available credit on my card, so i canceled my original order, and used a different card, but opted for no engraving after reading it would delay the order up to 72 hours...
but someone here on the forums ordered with engraving on the first day, and got the phone the next day....anyways good luck
That really sucks I have to say, though, google's page makes it pretty clear you're not going to be able to return the phone after engraving.
Here's the entirety of the text on the engraving page:

Well, if the phone were ever to break you couldn't get it repaired once rooted. So there's still a risk you're taking.

Well we still get a warranty. HTC offered to "repair" my phones screen, but then told me it could be a long time before I see it again.
I thought i paid 530$ for a phone that was supposed to be new and 100% functional.
I also offered to ship them my phone first. And then have them ship me a new replacement (thereby bypassing the credit hold) and the rep responded "thats just not how we do things"
my problem is I dont have a credit card. So placing a "hold" on my debit card locks up 530$ of my real money... its just not acceptable.

Sorry you had so much trouble, but I think the engraving is an awesome feature. Who can say they had any phone with a feature to engrave? lol, thats how I look at it.

Return != warranty service.
So, no. Simply engraving your phone does not remove the "lose your warranty" counter-incentive to root.
IMHO, the key reason not to get engraving (the lesson I learned from buying the only iPod I've ever owned like 5 years ago), is that unless you engrave it with something generic like "my n1 pwnt ur iphonez" then you basically will have a harder time ever selling it when you upgrade to your next handset. All of my phones thus far have been partially subsidized by the sale of my unlocked and hacked previous handset.
That's a reasonable way to do warranty service. How else would you expect them to do it? Ship you another phone on your honor?
The only thing engraving has to do with this is that you can't now return your phone for your entire money back -- it didn't change their warranty policy, right?

That is how almost every company handles things like this.
You authorize them to take the cost of a phone off your card if you fail to return your broken one. Not a dime comes out unless that happens. Personally, I have dealt with this setup with many companies and have never been screwed.
my problem is I dont have a credit card. So placing a "hold" on my debit card locks up 530$ of my real money... its just not acceptable.

aaaaah.
This is completely different. Of course, this is not HTC's problem, but yours. That being said, I have gone through what you are going through. There is a means for them to authorize the 530 against a debit card differently from how it is done for a credit card. I had to do this a few years ago as I paid for a part with my debit card and in order to get a replacement (warranty issue) they had to use the same card on file. I saw them deduct the amount out, I called them and after dealing with the bank for a few moments everything was kosher.
Sorry to hear your honeymoon was so short lived with your n1

Gutted indeed. Doesn't microsoft myphone have a tracking facility on it?
If you have household insurance you could claim it on that, i have my phone insured on my business insurance.
Good luck amigo
Of course there aren't any insurance policies that will cover an already lost/stolen phone...if only it were so
If you have home/holiday/credit card insurance you can sometime be covered under such a policy.
If your going to claim it on insurance though, just be careful on exactly how you word your claim. Insurance companies are very...sneaky when it comes to insuring phones. A word, a phrase or a situation out of place would result in £/$/€0. For example if you say you lost it in a pub your pretty much not getting a penny from them. Read the fine print on an insurance form to be sure what, when, where and how your phone would be covered.
I was wondering if maybe i could take out an insurance policy then maybe make a claim in a couple of days? Anyone ever tried something like this??
So gutted

Plenty of people who now have a criminal record have yes
Insurance policies normally have a clause that states you can't claim for x time (mine is 2 weeks for instance) after taking out a policy or changing the phone you want covered. There's also a whole bunch of conditions about timeframes for informing you network provider to block the sim etc.
Really your choice is:
1) learn the lesson, report it to O2 so they can block your sim and issue you with a new one, fork out for a new (sim-free) phone and get it insured this time. Cost: £500 + price of insurance
2) take out insurance now, wait for the required time before you can claim to elapse, submit a fraudulent claim, risk have it turned down and risk someone running a huuuuuuuuuuuge bill on your sim for which you'd be 100% liable. Cost: lots of trouble (for fraud), whatever £££ has been charged to your sim, and most likely having to buy a new phone anyway.
Have you tried calling your number at all (maybe some kind soul has found it)
Points taken, wish i could afford to but another one but unfortunately there is no chance of this. Looks like i'm going to be joing the ranks of non-HD2 owners
Back to my K800i then
Personally I would go back to O2, tell them the phone is lost or stolen, block the sim and imei, then see if there is any way they can help you out.
Better to be upfront and honest and maybe get something rather than dishonest and risk massive problems for yourself. later on.
At worst you will get a replacement sim to use in another phone. You could also try buying yourself out of the contract.
Start by talking to them first to assess your options.
Good luck.

That's hardly a bargin is it!! That's about £60 a year for a £500 phone?!
10% of your device cost on insurance. Why not just add it to your home contents insurance, should be cheaper.
might be cheaper on home insurance but might be more on excess if you need to make a claim, o2 only charge £25 excess
Bugger, really sympathise with you mate. The trouble is that insurance really adds to your monthly bill that it doesnt seem worth taking, until something like this happens.
Now I read the thread properly.....thank god for the honest cabby!

Make sure you drop that guy a drink or something for Christmas. It's nice to hear of honesty in this world.
So, this weekend I noticed some dirt under my screen. It isn't too bad, but I paid good money for this phone and I pay $7 a month for TEP, so I want to be completely satisfied with what I have to make it all worthwhile. I'm one of those paranoid people that pre-order the BodyGuardz full-body kit before the phone has even arrived. Anyways, my phone is absolutely mint condition with the exception for some noticeable smudging on the top left of the screen. I even have a Case-Mate Barely There case on top of the full-body BG to protect the camera.
So I took it to a local Sprint store and waited nearly an hour for them to start working on the phone. The local rep told me it would be 2 hours to get it fixed. No problem as Outback was right next door. I grabbed some food and when I returned I was handed back my phone. Only, the screen was completely scratched up and the top and bottom front edges of the phone were chipped. I calmly approached the rep and said that I wasn't going to accept it as it is in far worse condition than when it arrived. I wasn't surprised when the rep said that they had replaced my screen with one that was laying around. I should have taken pictures of the condition so you guys know what I am talking about. I'm surprised they expected anyone to be ok with that. Anyways, so I have them put my old display back and they said that I would have to wait for a new screen to come about so I can get it swapped.
On the way home, I called customer service and explained the situation. After explaining to him that I was not going to waste any more time going through a similar situation in another store he was able to get an advanced replacement sent to me. He told me it would be a couple of weeks as the device was being preordered. I didn't mind as he told me that I would most likely be receiving a new device rather than a refurb due to the low availability. Sweet right?
So I get home today and I am pleasantly surprised to see the replacement waiting for me. I open it up and I noticed a crappy, $5 USB charger (that's odd), what seemed like an original EVO battery but turned out to be a black battery wrapped in red paper (I thought this one was pretty funny), a brand new back cover, and what looked to be a brand new EVO (display sticker was on and everything). Awesome!
Not quite. As I turn the device over, I notice the camera is completely scratched up. I mean, really scratched up. The rim around it was also all chipped. The kickstand had some scratches on it as well. Here we go again...
After being transferred about 3 times where I had to verify my account and explain the situation each time, I was able to get another replacement sent my way. Same story, might be 2 weeks as it is low demand. I explained to the rep that I don't want to keep going through this and I have had similar experiences with replacing my Palm Pre in the past and asked if there was any way he could request a new device. He said he wasn't able to as was not presented to him in the system. He then proceeded by saying that I could keep the charger and battery for my troubles. I giggled. It was as if they knew they were screwing me over and sent me those as if it would satisfy me. I have dealt with my replacements from Sprint and never have they just given me extra "goodies".
I'll most likely be cancelling my 5-line service with them if I don't get a flawless refurb or a new device from them. I have spent way too much time and energy dealing with this type of situation with my Palm Pre, and now with my EVO.
I was already pissed about the $10 additional smartphone tax and the screwed up discount limitations, but this is just pushing me over the edge.
That is exactly why I don't even bother with insurance... they are especially horrible on sprint but I got am illegally rebranded motorola when I was on centennial... Hated their insurance service
There is a reason why Hitler blew a gasket yesterday.

Good Luck...
Good luck with that flawless idea, I went through 3 refurbs before I demanded brand new phone. On inspection of the new phone, it has light leakage around the gasket and a pin hole next to the home button that light comes through.
I have given up on HTC and Sprint. Once my contract is up, I am either jumping overboard or researching phones thoroughly
Im sorry to hear about that dude. I have had some trouble with sprint but just recently I got a BRAND NEW out of the box phone for free. My battery was shot and it wouldnt charge or turn on so I went in and told sprint that it wouldnt turn on and apparently they didnt think to try a different battery, they gave me a brand new phone and sent me on my way. needless to say, I had an extra bat and it worked just fine.
How is it Sprints fault that you got dirt under your screen and then wanted them to fix it? You should be happy that they do anything for you. If that was an Iphone apple would have looked at you and then laughed for about 3 hours and then said sure sir will replace your phone for $600.00. DO you really think you will get better service somewhere else? I've got news for you, you won't. I for one am very surprised that Sprint does anything for cosmetic damage without a deductible. Take your 5 lines somewhere else and when you come back wining we will welcome you back.

The moment I am liable for a 2-year contract when purchasing their phone AND pay their full-protection insurance, it is TOTALLY Sprint's responsibility to address the dirt under my screen. It isn't like they're paying for the device out of their pockets. They're simply acting as the middleman between the client and HTC's warranty department. It's the least they can do for someone who is devoting 2-years of their wireless service costs to them and is paying their TEP fees.
I don't know what you're talking about but I used to be with T-Mo for 5 years and NEVER had issues such as these. I always got brand new devices as replacements. I don't know how it is nowadays, but that's how it was 2 years ago.
BTW - Dust under the screen is not cosmetic as it is affecting visibility of the display much like dead pixels would. It is also something that is not supposed to occur on any device.
Finally, your little condescending attitude is not going to help you in life. Good luck!

He's right. T-Mobile has the best customer service. I replaced my G1 twice in one year. Might have been a refurbished one but it was like new. The best part was I never had to go to a repair center. I made a phone call explained my problem they asked if the water indicator was red and that's it. Sent me a new one in the mail and I sent mine right back no charge.

Actually, they are paying for the device, out of pocket. You know how the phone actually costs 500, and you're getting it for 200..?
Akarol,
Being a service manager for a sprint store it bothers me that people have to deal with that stuff.. if any of my service techs did that to people i would slap the **** outta them.. I'm sorry that a service center has treated you that way and with 2 phones none the less. Was it a corporate or just an authorized service center?

Makdasamurai: Thank you for understanding. The sad thing is that it was a corporate store. One of the largest ones here in Orlando (by the Florida Mall). I made the mistake of going to an affiliate store in the past with my Palm Pre (Five Star Cellular) and I will never do that again.
What bothers me is that there is this disparity in service from store to store. I read stories here about people going in and getting a brand new phone on the spot. It's not like they're not being reimbursed that phone by Sprint. Right?
Backdown: I understand what you're saying, but that's nothing new. That's how contract works. They give us a discount, for our commitment with them. Some situations don't even require contracts but the compatibility itself locks you into a commitment such as video game consoles, printers, etc. Trust me, they're making a ton more money on the service than they're losing on devices.
I've been through a very similar situation, so I'll give you some advice. The ONLY people on the phone that can send you a NEW phone, is retentions (account services). If anyone else TOLD you they were sending a new phone, its a lie. That's why you got it so quick, because they send out a refurb instead of waiting for the new one to come back in stock. The lower level reps do not have the power to order a new phone, even if they think they do.
Good to know. I'll be sure to tackle that department if my new replacement disappoints. I just wish I didn't have to go through all this turmoil.
So I'm getting out of my car yesterday, and my phone was in my case attached to my belt. However, the magnetic flap the prevents the phone from sliding out apparently didn't make good contact and the phone slid out of its case and landed right on a corner and turned the screen digitizer into a spider web of broken glass.

I don't want to go through my insurance for several reasons. Therefore, I went on eBay and ordered a new digitizer for about $34 shipped with Priority Mail. However, I'd also like to replace the actual plastic case that holds the phone together, as it has some broken clips and the phone looks like it wants to come apart. However, I can't find anyone selling it. There are some video tutorials on Youtube and it seems like an easy enough process, I just can't seem to find the part.
Does anyone know where I can purchase an OEM exterior case for this phone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Resolved and I double-posted the thread like a moron.

How much?
I wouldn't mind having a replacement ready to go. I've dropped my EVO at least ten times and I've been VERY lucky so far.

I have to double check with my supplier, I used to be able to sell them fo 65 plus shipping but you knw nowadays, prices go up everyday lol, I'll try to get back ASAP for you guys. I might hurry too seeing as there is interest in it. When I mentioned it a while ago when I had them, no one was interested
Go to global direct parts you can get oem cases and parts there for good prices. I think an oem case in there is 30 dollars or so.
Edit: I just went there in my Evo. It's $37.80.

Well, I double-posted this thread trying to edit the subject line to add "resolved" to it. My other thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12141063#post12141063
On this thread, I added a link I found to a US seller on eBay. I got the housing for $25 shipped, and it brings the adhesive already. All you have to do it peel the tape and place the new digitizer in place.
Digitizer = $35 shipped
Housing = $25 shipped
Total cost= $60
Yea, I could have paid $40 more and had Asurion send me a refurb, but then I'd have to start over from scratch and then if I have one more claim within a year, they kick me out and I have no more insurance. I'd rather save my claims for when I do something really stupid and completely break my phone or flat out lose it (knock on wood).
In the meantime, it really sucks because I feel like I'm going to cut my finger on the screen. Works flawlessly, though.......incredibly enough.
Edit: The $35 Sprint deal was a no go. I was told by the in-store rep of the repair center I went to that they are not allowed to even touch the phone because there are obvious signs of physical damage. Even then, the $35 charge was for people who did NOT have insurance on their phones. I asked if I changed the digitizer myself, could I then bring the phone back in to replace the case for cosmetic issues and pay the $35 and was told yes. However, I do not think she knew what she was talking about and I called a different repair center where I was told they couldn't do a damn thing for me. That's when I went ahead and ordered the parts myself.
This just happened to a co-worker of mine and a Sprint repair center here in Kansas City replaced his screen for him. It was covered under his insurance with no deductible. Surprised the hell out of him.

Well, your friend is a very lucky guy. Even when Sprint was doing this a short while ago, there was a $35 fee associated with it. Your buddy's luck was as good getting the problem fixed as it was bad when the phone broke to begin with. lol
crap, I never bought insurance. So they don't do the 35 dollar thing anymore? That was very appealing which is why I waived insurance on my girlfriends evo.

Same happened to me less than 2 months ago. My heart stopped when my Evo slapped the hard tiled floor. One repair center told me to go online (Asurion) and file the claim. Instead I went home & went to a different repair center the next morning. They replaced the screen & didn't charge me a dime.
The $35 repair fee does cover exchanges or repairs without insurance. However, the policy was slightly modified as of Feb 1st. Any LCD/lens/digitizer with multiple cracks or a single crack longer than 1 inch is considered damaged beyond repair (DBR). An insurance claim would have to be filed. If the digitizer simply stops functioning, it can still be replaced under insurance or the $35 repair fee.
For those that would want to do the repair themselves, be warned. There are two different types of Evo screens. One made by Sharp and one made by AUO. They are not interchangeable.
Update:
The process did not go well. It was actually very easy, IMO, but it turns out that the LCD cracked along with the digitizer when the phone fell. Therefore, it broke even more during the process of removing it from the digitizer and became useless. However, I feel that if the LCD would not have been damaged during the initial fall, that I would have been able to do it.
With that said, I called Asurion for a replacement and the Evo is back ordered so I have to wait 7-10 days for them to send me another phone. In the meantime, I have been reduced to this:
Good times!

I have two of these, and like 7 Motorola Star Tacs. Yes, Star Tacs. lol I picked the lesser of two evils.
Subject Edit: Motorola Warranty Repair Issues - No problem with bootloader, but HORROR STORY!
EDIT: MY SD CARD HAS BEEN RECOVERED, REJOICE! Be careful anyone who is purchasing a Motorola phone.
I sent my Atrix in to repair the fingerprint scanner and touch screen as neither were working only a couple months after purchase.
After submission, motorola changed the repair to a slow repair(5-7 days) instead of express repair which I was guaranteed (2-3 days).
I received the phone back, both the fingerprint scanner, and the touch screen still do not work.
In addition, the repair team stole my Wintec 32GB Class 10 Micro SD card that I purchased on NewEgg for $82.49 a couple weeks before my pre-order arrived.
I wish I hadn't accidentally included this in my return. Stay away, for your own good.
I was disconnected from customer support several times while trying to resolve this issue also.
Spread the word, I have posted this status on my facebook for all 400 friends to see.
I really hope the advocacy office can resolve this issue for me without getting the BBB, attorney general, and my lawyer involved.
The only good news about this whole matter is that the BOOTLOADER being unlocked did not cause an issue.
After receiving back from motorola I now have a stock ROM again, KennethPenningtons rom is no longer there, and the "UNLOCKED" no longer appears in the top left hand corner when booting the phone. I don't know if they replaced the MOBO or something to do so, but on my repair sheet it only says "Software" and doesn't indicate they replaced any hardware.
Never had a problem with Motorola repair in my country. In fact, good after sales service is the reason why I got a ATRIX instead of a gs2 or a sensation. The fact that they actually repaired your phone shows how good they are . You should email someone to complain about your missing memory card.

Matthew, I think you missed the point.
I received the Atrix back with a broken fingerprint scanner, as well as a non-working touch screen.
The phone is completely useless, all they did was wipe the software.
I have emailed the advocacy team, but I am not ready to go an additional week without a phone just yet.

from what it seems to me, they prolly saw you had custom firmware installed so they figured a wipe to stock would fix the problems. sorry it didn't. it also sucks about your SD card, i've had nothing but good experience from Motorola in all my years of celluar usage.
i'm sure if you contact customer support and talk to some people, you can get everything worked out.

I agree, it is just unfortunate that they did not test the touch screen or the fingerprint scanner since those were the things that were broken.
I had already tested a stock rom and determined it was definitely a hardware issue, so it was extra frustrating.
In addition, their wipe caused me to lose everything, and my backup of all apps was on the SD card which was stolen.
After 30 minutes on the phone I was offered a 2GB sd card, which I laughed off.
I was placed on hold for another 5 minutes and offered a 16gb SD card, which I declined as my 32GB was full so I definitely do not want a 16GB.
In addition, I will be frustrated if they finally offer me a 32GB card but not a Class 10 card.
At this point I just want to cut my losses and be done with Motorola. This phone also has connectivity issues in which I cannot connect to the internet even when WIFI and 4G both have signal.
SMH... Great phone, lot's of problems.

best thing i can suggest for you to do is keep asking for someone higher up on the food chain while you're in contact with customer service, eventually you'll get to someone with the power to solve your problems. do you have any way to prove that your SD card was actually in the phone you sent them? and did you compare IMEI's with the phone you sent, and the phone you got back? they might have just replaced the phone without checking to see if you had an SD card or not in the old one. if they did do that though, it's a real shame your new phone has the same problems.

I can't use the phone. I can get it to work, but the touch screen is unreliable and frequently freezes as if a raindrop was on it and causing input.
I am able to answer phone calls for the most part, but not much else.
I am going to keep it until after the weekend and send it back again.
Unfortunately, no I don't really have a good way to prove I did not remove the card.
I do have my receipt from Newegg, but that is really all I have to go on.
It's a shame, hopefully they have cameras and can nab the guy putting the SD card in his pocket.

Thanks a lot, it really is a bummer.
What's the most frustrating is that I pre-ordered this phone and told so many people to get it(at least 10 of which actually did, imagine how many of their friends did too), and now I am the one experiencing the most problems.
I've never even OC'd. I am at least happy that they did not refuse my warranty for having an unlocked bootloader alone, for that I give them props.
I thought I might have to fight them over these repairs even though they have nothing to do with the bootloader.
:/
it's a real shame, i've received nothing but good support from Moto. i had an old Razer that got replaced two or three times, even after the warranty ran out.
they've always been expedient and friendly with me, extremely helpful. i guess the guy working on your phone was just a bad apple in the bunch. maybe you can get someone in Motorola Mobility to fix your problems and put this all behind you, the Atrix really is an amazing phone and i'm sure Moto will have a lot more great products out after Google finishes their takeover.
I sent my Atrix in because turning on Wifi would crash the phone. I got it back the first time and it still had issues. I sent it in again (and got Motorola to send me a Fedex label for free shipping). This time they sent me a replacement phone. While not the best experience, I would say they did what they were obligated to do.

My phone was so new I would accept nothing but prepaid labels for the return, and they did issue them to my surprise. I was also very happy with this action.
You are lucky that you got a replacement phone, I wish they offered me the same option since I am also having trouble with WIFI & 3g/4g.
I am overwhelmed so far by the positive experiences with motorolas support listed in this thread, I hope they are also able to provide me the same experience and retain me as a loyal customer.
I loved my V600 back in the day, and never had problems with my RAZR.
Why would you send Motorola an unlocked phone? You knew you voided their warranty yet you still expected them to fix it?
They took the SD card as payment to turning a blind eye to the unlocked phone.
Karma.
Sent from my Atrix
Feel your pain with the FP reader and screen, but regarding the SDCARD.................your own fault. Should have removed it before you sent it in! Sorry bout' your luck there.

You "may" void your warranty. Many people are returning phones with unlocked bootloaders and receiving them back working and with unlocked bootloaders. Nothing anywhere I have seen states you absolutely will void your warranty. If the bootloader unlock doesn't cause the problem, they legally will waste a lot of time and money on lawyers for nothing, so it appears they are just ignoring unlocked bootloaders.
Great news! The SD card has been re-covered. It was shipped back to me with the battery cover and was hiding in the bottom right of the fedex pak. I didn't even think to look there since the letter included only mentioned they were shipping back the battery cover.
At the time I was so mad they shipped back my cracked battery cover instead of a new one I didn't even do a thorough search of the package.
Now I just have to get it back in there to fix the FP Scanner & Screen.
PHEW!

Hi everyone ! I'm about to receive my gold gs7e, and i have a few questions for the profis out there !(this might interest beginnersmlike me )^^
First of, how do i subscribe to an insurance for the phone ? Since i paid full price for the phone(i couldn't get a bargain through my carrier), i really believe i need some kind of insurance . Does sammy provide anything like that ? I've browsed their website but didn't find anything except the usual warranty. According to you, carriers insurance are woth a try ?
Then, i will get a "naked" phone, does it mean it will be free of bloatware ?
I've read here and there that to get to grips with the phone it can be a good idea to hard reset it right from the start, before i save any data on it. What do you think?
What do you recommend to maximize battery performance and durability ? How can i take good care of the battery on the long run ? Should i charge it fully as soon as imget the phone ? Or is it better to let it dry out completely and then charge it to max ?
What other things are important to have a good start with the phone ??
I thank you in advance for your kind replies !:good:

Since you're mentioning "carrier," I'm guessing you're in the U.S. If that's right, you have a few options.
Carrier insurance: most expensive, but the only one that will cover loss or theft. Typically $13 a month or more, plus a $200 deductible if you need a replacement due to loss, theft or breakage. Only you can decide if that's important to you. I've never lost a phone, or had one stolen, so it's not important to me.
Samsung Protection Plan: $129 one time fee, $79 deductible for two years of coverage, up to 2 replacements per year. No loss or theft coverage, but coverage for broken screens, water damage, and electronics failures (after the 1 year warranty is up). I think this is what I'm going with: http://www.samsung.com/us/owners/protection-plus/
Square Trade: Monthly payments, but a lot cheaper than the carrier plans. A little cheaper or a little more expensive than Samsung's depending on how long a plan you get, and whether or not you actually need a replacement phone. Google Square Trade and you can see the options.
Those are the big three. There are a couple of other options mentioned here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge/646986-insurance-samsung-s7-edge.html , but I'd stay with the big companies that are known to provide reliable claims service. Cheap insurance isn't a good deal if the company isn't actually around to pay your claim.
Then, i will get a "naked" phone, does it mean it will be free of bloatware ?

Not sure what "naked" means. Where did you buy it, and what model (G935F, etc.) is it? If it's a carrier branded phone, it will have bloatware no matter where you bought it from (e.g., Best Buy or Amazon). If it's an unlocked international version, it will have Samsung's bloat, but not carrier bloat.
I've read here and there that to get to grips with the phone it can be a good idea to hard reset it right from the start, before i save any data on it. What do you think?

Won't hurt anything, but it probably isn't necessary. A factory reset simply restores it to the "new, out of the box" condition. Which is the same as what you'll have when you take it out of the box,

Do NOT let the battery drain completely. That was good advice 10 years ago, when phones had NiCd batteries, but Lithium batteries do not like to be fully discharged. The best way to treat Li batteries, if you really want absolutely maximum longevity, is to maintain the charge between 25% and 75%. But for simplicity, just charge it to 100% when it needs it, and don't let it drop below 25% unless you have to.

Read the forums and articles here, and at other Android sites. You'll find lots of good information and tips.
Also, consider getting a case. This is a slippery phone, and the glass back is pretty fragile. I haven't put a case on any other phone, but decided to put one on this one. I wanted the beauty to show through, so I got this one from Spigen. It makes the phone easier to hold, more comfortable (for me) to hold, provides some protection against breaking, and minimizes fingerprints.

+1 on the Samsung protection plus. I can say from experience (as in this past week) I already had my Gold S7E replaced due to me dropping my phone at 4 feet taking pictures of my fiancé and puppy. In result, a crack screen. Anyways I don't have Samsung Protection plus prior, but bought it, got my claim approved, and the replacement was shipped next day. Keep in mind though, they will replace the phone with the same specs, so the color is not considered. My new replacement was black and they would not exchange it regardless of saying "I'll wait til you get the gold". In the end I sent my damaged phone and had my carrier trade the black for a gold .
So, to answer your question. Samsung protection plus is awesome (assurant is their insurance) to an extent. And a case is a need! Phone pretty much slipped out of my hand when I dropped the phone.
On a side note, I'm unsure which carrier you're with but At&t (on-line) took care of my replacement at no charge (in-store reps weren't able to fulfill my request, PR at leasty local branch was misinformed).
To top it off, this is Day 1 with my new replaced Gold phone.

First of, i want to thank you guys for answering my questions ! I appreciate it a ton !
As you both asked,i'm in france and i bought a naked phone online. My service provider here is Orange. Btw, what's the difference between carrier and service provider ?
I would like to ask also if the samsung insurance covers all repair costs ? I mean, i read somewhere that it just help reducing the bill but for instance, a broken screen will still cost about 200bucks to repair !
As for the battery , do i need to go through any calibration process ? I trust everything you told me, but i remember reading somewhere on this site that new phones might need to be calibrated battery wise ? Like, the software may not be fully aware of the battery or sth like that ? This leads me to ask if every piece of hardware maufactured is somehow tested individually before it ships ?
And concerning a protection for the phone i'll go with the silver clear view cover! It really looks stunning even if i'm aware in case of a drop it may open and expose the screen... I also already received my tempered glass ! Hopeflly both will fit together !

I'm thinking that naked has a different meaning here than what you're trying to say. But if you mean it wasn't branded from Orange or another service provider, then I think the answer is that it will still have Samsung's bloat, but not any service provider installed apps. Oh, service provider and carrier amount to the same thing. Here in the U.S. we call Verizon, Sprint, etc. carriers. You'd call them service providers.

I don't know what Samsung's (or anyone else's) insurance plans cover in France. They seem to vary a lot. Here in the U.S, there's a "deductible" of $79 for any repair of replacement. That means no matter what it costs for Samsung to repair or replace your phone, you only pay $79. I don't even know if Samsung offers this plan in France, or what it's terms are if they do. Probably best to go to the Samsung France web site and see if you can find something.

No, you don't. The battery has circuitry in it that works with the phone to keep track of battery status. Just charge it up and use it. There may be some truth that the phone "learns" about the battery during the first few charges, (I don't think so, though), but there's nothing special you need to do.
