This phone has obviously got **** loads of issues, if it wasent for this forum then It would have been a piece of junk.
I have hopes that HTC will bring out firmware but now with this new Nexus kicking off im asking myself what support can we expect from HTC who is now fully in joint support with Googles Android.
From a business point of view it makes sense to realise that the HD2 was in fact a failure and to offer only the bare minimum support to enable a success of the nexus one.
Just like Vodafone decided to axe the HD2 and now a nice news flash comes through that Vodafone UK will be offering the Nexus one, which just further supports my theory.
Having said that I wonder if after enough complaining i would be able to get a Nexus one as like for like replacement for my HD2.
I was firm supporter of WM but with the current situation i cannot imagine HTC being arsed about a flawed product and development for WM7 either when they just done this Android deal.
Suppose the only real problem i have with android is unable to run TOMTOM.
Lets have a banter your views are welcome.
HTC will not lay its eggs in one basket
HD2 is a flawed product?
lmao. Get a grip man.
You do know most people who post on forums, post because they are unhappy with something.
There are plenty of people out there who think the HD2 is the best phone that they've ever owned, just because they dont clog up the forum with posts on how happy they are (or because they actually RTFM) doesnt make the device a piece of junk.
Thank you

conencting to my WIFI router i get oh waite ... 10% signal level. what does my laptop get thats in the same spot? ****ign 90% full speed.
The SMS issue where it takes ages to load messages is a FACT
SMS get stuck in the outbox and sends after x days ???!?!?!

Edited rude name calling out, appologies.

Vodafone is getting the nexus via google not via htc..they drop the hd2 because of apple request..

Strange, but people who have not even heard of XDA-Developers, such as Chinese speakers in Taiwan who have the HD2 would strongly disagree with you.

I suggest you do a search on Peter Chou's recent interviews. He is HTC's CEO. Since he has a better idea of what HTC is up to, I am inclined to believe what he says, not what you conceive to be reality.
Just like Vodafone decided to axe the HD2 and now a nice news flash comes through that Vodafone UK will be offering the Nexus one, which just further supports my theory.

Well written, Steven Paul Jobs . Yes, its been confirmed by other member. So far ONE, and counting.
There are definately issues with this phone.....T-Mobile can't be bothered to release a Rom update they say that it is undergoing thorough testing....so we will probably get it when Windows mobile 90 comes out in the year 2090.
I agree with Rougue but I don't think that name calling and offensive language solve anything
I think you should just calm down, you're entitled to your opinion but don't expect everyone to share it.

Yea i am p'd off because i was going to get the Samsung Omnia 2 but then saw the HTC hd2 and i realy enjoyed my HTC touch cruise. So I waited a long time, read reviews and all that changed provider to Vodafone paying top dollar even though i get 40% discount on Orange contract just to be presented a sheep in wolves clothing after extensive use and being told oh no these faults are phantom and dont exist, yea right
Thanks for the feedback im looking forward to reading CEO Peter Chou's interviews which no doubt is filled with deceit of the 9th kind.
I have a temper excuse my outbursts
HTC have been quitely making phones for many companies behind the scenes for years. Over the last few years they have (quite rightly IMHO) "come out" as a top flight device designer and fabricator. They don't stick to one operating system and I don't think ever will. What your service provider decides to do is entirely outwith the control of HTC, who, i suspect, will continue to design and sell the highest quality products in all "open source" operating systems under their own name as well as proprietary OS's for other vendors.
Have Vodafone actually supported you as a customer to the same level that HTC has to us who bought unlocked phones? For me, Vodaphone have never supported Windows Mobile properly. My Omnia only ever had 1 update from them which is why I decided to buy unlocked this time. I still have a contract with Vodafone and will get a free upgrade from my Omnia when my contract allows but no matter what I choose i do not believe that it will be supported as well as an unlocked handset.
Most devices have issues, these are released very quickly into an aggressive market. For me it is how a company responds to these things that is important. Service providers, for me, just cannot provide that support. HTC are not perfect but I chose to "early adopt". In technology we used to always say never buy version 1 of anything, always wait for services packs to come out and be implemented ina new version release. Early adopters are known to be at the bleeding edge, and this can be messy, but fun at times.
Please note that this is my opinion, stated in a respectful manner. I make no claims to speak for every HD2 user, mobile phone maker or service provider in the wordls. I speak from my personal experience. I do not republish 3rd hand gossip from other sites and pretend I have inside knowledge. My HD2 is not perfect, it's the best phone I have ever had though.
Regards.
I have had issues posted... and I fixed all of them with stuff I found here... I consider it tweaking
My flash shots are fine, WiFi is good (you wont get a better signal with the Nexus... its all HTC hardware!), NO issues with radio, I use WM sms instead of HTC... I get all my sent notifications and it ALWAYS gets sent.... I love my phone! I am also faster with Swype on my keyboard than if you gave me a ISheep to txt with....
Now, having said all that, I MAY consider buying a Nexus in the next incarnation once they offer Multitouch, a screen the size of my HD2, the same thickness of my HD2 and when even more Android apps hit the market. I am really impressed by some of the stuff Android has been coming out with and the speed of the OS (On the Snapdragon chip of course)... Qualcomm is coming out with 1.5 mobile chips soon! I can't imagine what that would do for our WM and Android devices!
Even if I bought one, I would use it as an alternative to my WM phone (HD2 for today). Its only cause I love the WM platform so much cause of the ability to tweak and ek out more performance/customization.... if you don't like that kind of thing, NEVER buy a WM phone! I also have all the software I need already for my daily use! If my foray into the Android platform keeps me happy (with alternatives to apps I am using now and newer fun stuff), I MAY consider a move....
My final word... the Nexus 1 is a fine phone it seems... however, its lacking just a little IMHO to get me to even consider it at this point... its darned close though... WM needs to buck up and wow us with WM7 or they may even lose some hardened WM users like me... maybe

What a load of bull! The HD2 is the BEST PHONE AT THE MOMENT! Vodafone could simply not meet the huge demands for the HD2, plus they had Apple biting their heads off cos the HD2 was going to crush Iphone sales at Voda. That is the reason why they pulled.
I have to say, I think the HD2 is the absolute best thing ever, i have had the iphone and various other htc`s and by far this is the best.
I admit i must be one of the lucky ones as i havent had a single problem so far and have customized it to my exact needs, so to me it is flawless !
I`m not geeky but i just love the way there is always something to learn and add and tweek, when i had the iphone all you had to do was wait until the next app to come out that kept you busy for the next 5 mins ? its a phone that is all colours and glitz to me, and it didnt work for what so ever and many friends have had so many problems with them its untrue. but we could be here forever battling over phones, it is totally personel preference.
but i just wanted to add my pennies worth by backing the hd2 and as stated previously most people do just post about problems they are having or had and not posting about how well things are going...
i wish you all the best with your new phone :

I don't know if this is worthy of a new thread or not, if you guys find it not to be then you can delete it. I just wanted to post this so that i can vent my anger out on Sprint and no one besides you guys at XDA would probably care. I am very upset with Sprint and all of their products that i have so far. I got into the smartphone scene with a palm and i had that for quite a while, things worked great on it. Then i made the switch to the HTC Diamond. I was excited for the phone until i got it. It had a huge battery problem, i would probably get 5 hours most on the phone, and it lagged severely. To me, that is a huge problem so if i were with Sprint and HTC i would have fixed that right away. But, alas sprint is not that kind of company, so they left it. Thanks to the developers, they fixed Sprint and HTCs problem.
I then switched to the HTC Hero, again i was very excited for this phone and i saved for quite a while to purchase it. But again, when i got it i was disappointed. The phone lagged more than i expected and again, there was a battery issue. HTC get the hint already, fix your battery scripting. So i did the most sensible thing, i rooted my phone and upgraded with developer roms because it seems developers care more than Sprint.
Now i sit here waiting for Android 2.1 which sprint promises that they will release. I hear so many dates, first one said it was suppose to be released on March 23 and now i hear April 9th. And to make matters even worse, they are now releasing 2 new phones to their lineup. I am excited for these new phones, the nexus one and the EVO, but what the heck sprint, fix your current problems!
I am very interested in the EVO, from what i read, it is suppose to have quite a few cool things. But, i am not going to let the appearance fool me, this phone seems so powerful that sprint isnt gonna be able to handle it and they will release some great looking phone with a ton of problems, and instead of fixing these problems, they'll probably just try to push another phone on us. The Evo says it will have an 8 megapixel camera, seems impressive but the Hero has a 5 megapixel camera, that honestly, is **** without some tweeking to it. So i think an 8 megapixel camera will probably be the same with no fix from sprint or htc. Next, they promise a great processor, this sounds good but to me it sounds like another phone with 5 hours of battery life. I may be wrong but so far htc's previous products are all the same in this field.
I may just ranting but i really needed to get this out, i still don't know why i stick with sprint and htc, i guess i am loyal and i have faith that one day they will listen to their customers and fix their stuff. I don't know if anyone else feels this way too but this is what i have noticed since i got onboard with htc and sprint.

haha thats great, thanks i need that, haha. if crying gets things fixed with these companies then i am there.
I would imagine that all smartphone get terrible battery life. They are basically pocket-sized computers. It's not just HTC's. They improved the Hero a ton with the US version compared to the Euro one. Maybe switching to a non-smartphone might be your option? I don't know. I can tell you that with 2.1, our Heroes will have better battery life once we get the update. Because these leaked ROMs already do. Anyways, I don't really think Sprint is the problem with the phone. They are just the carrier minus the few apps they install. Do you live in a spot that has good coverage from Sprint? Because I will tell you this...If you have bad coverage, you won't get good battery life. Maybe switching carriers would help. Just my opinion.
-Ken
if you're not satisfied..then go get yourself an iPhone.....end of thread..
well one reason i was upset is with the diamond i had about 4 hours to 5 hours with the phone, sleep or active. I then learned about rooting the phone and i installed a rom that fixed that problem. so my guess was it was some type of scripting error that the companies just never got around to fixing. And i live in AZ, sprint and verizon have the best coverage, the rest suck out here so i wouldnt consider any of them.
What kind of battery problem are you having with the hero? I can easily get through the day on a charge most of the time.
And even when I can't, keeping a second usb cable at my office so I can plug in there every now and then isn't a big deal. I consider it more than a fair trade-off for being able to carry that much computing power in my pocket.
It wasn't all that many years ago that I owned a desktop computer that had a slower processor, less ram, less storage, crappier screen and MUCH slower internet access than what my hero has.
I really don't understand why so many people ***** about "only" one day of battery life. What's so freakin' inconvenient about having your phone plugged in while you sleep?
Hell, when I carried a Treo 650 I had to have my phone plus two spare batteries fully charged when I left the house in the morning if I expected to get through just to the end of the workday. Didn't really bother me, it's just the trade-off I had to make to have the capabilities that it gave me.
It's just basic physics. More processing power uses more electricity. More functionality means that processing power is being utilized even when you're not using the phone. That also costs electricity. Larger screen, you guessed it, needs more electricity. And yet people still demand that their phones be slim and sexy.
You want a phone that does all this cool ****? Well, then be prepared to plug it in every once in awhile. If they made these things with the ability to go 17 days between charges they'd have to be the size of a phone book to accomodate the battery.

No reason to be short, I am glad to hear others opinions on Sprint and HTC in general.
On another note, I could never be more satisfied with my phone, rom, battery life, stability, coverage, and rate plan.
Except Im switching to Evo. Lol!

Well, to be fair, it is what everything seems to get compared to.
In all honesty after having carried one for two years, I have to say it's a great phone for its target audience. It's a reasonably capable smartphone that "just works". For non-geeks who want a phone that does all the "cool stuff", I think it's a good fit.
For people like me and the others who seek out forums like this one, it's just about the most frustrating damn phone in the world, though. It sucks having all that processing power in your fingertips but not being able to utilize it fully because Apple has the iPhone ecosystem locked down so tight. Not to mention that if I wanted to write my own software for it, I had to go out and buy a Mac! I had my first basic Android app loaded and running on my hero the same night I brought it home.
As far as your frustration with Sprint and HTC being slow with updates.... Just throw a 2.1 rom from this forum on it and stop worrying. I'm running DamageControl on mine, and I can honestly say I'm not the least bit interested in the official 2.1 update from sprint. There's nothing interesting even rumored to be in it that I don't already have.
Thanks, trust me, i love the hero. And i love XDA, i enjoy coming on this website to find what cool new roms are out and testing them. I think that the EVO may be an even better dinner table discussion, i can picture it now, "hey, is that an HDMI cable input?" "Oh this old thing, yea it is" haha

Well first I am sure Sprint is trying to work with HTC to fix all the bugs in 2.1. Other phones like Motorola Droid do not come with the sense UI, so HTC needs to have time to incorporate that. I am sure the original date may have been March 23, but like everyone knows some deadlines cant be met. We are not even supposed to know it was to be released that day or April 9. Someone leaks this information and that causes all the problems. Most of the time they dont even know a release date until all the beta testing is done. Stop paying attention to the dates people post. Plus if Sprint released this with bugs everyone would complain. i know one time with the HTC Touch Pro sprint released a ROM early and had to recall it. I dont think they want to do that sort of thing again.
For battery life, get an extended battery. The Sprint Hero uses the same has the HTC TP2 battery and they have a 2000mah battery that is the same size as stock for like $10 and its 500mah more.
As for technology, once you buy the Evo, it will be outdated just like the Hero. Thats part of technology life. be happy if you get 6 month out of your device before there is a better replacement.

6 months?
I've had my hero for just over 2 weeks now, and in that time it's been officially announced that the N1 and EVO are on their way to Sprint.
I couldn't wait any longer, though. My wife and I have been doing without cell phones for awhile since we moved to a new town. I now live a 5 mile drive from even the slightest hint of an AT&T signal, not a good deal for our iPhones. I've been holding out to see what got announced this spring, but nobody was saying anything and impatience finally got the better of me and I decided the Hero would be "just fine". (Which worked out, because none of the announced phones will be on the shelf soon enough that I could have waited anyway.)

Alright, like everyone else, I have grown tired of all the complaining about the 2.1 update. Yes, I would love to get my hands on the official update as I feel our 2.1 leak was pretty buggy. The devs have done great with what they have to work with, and I love running 2.1 even with some of the quirks that are inherent to a hacked ROM.
What I don't get is how everyone can be so upset with Sprint. Personally, I am on Sprint because they are cheap, and offer good cell phone service where I live. That's it. If you are upset with your carrier (as I was with my extremely high bills on Verizon) then buy out your contract and go to another carrier. However, don't expect that you will get your magical 2.1 upgrade any sooner with any other carrier.
Do most people realize that there is not a single Android phone for sale in America that has ever been upgraded to 2.1 from 1.5 or 1.6? In fact, there are only three phones that have ever even received an Android OS upgrade at all. The T-Mobile G1 (1.0-1.6), the T-Mobile myTouch 3G (1.5-1.6), and the Motorola Droid (2.0-2.1). That's it people.
For all the people blaming Sprint, HTC, or even Sense for how long it's taking them, look around. The T-Mobile G1 and myTouch3G both came out before the Hero, both run vanilla Andoid, and neither of them have been upgraded to 2.1. Just look at all the phones that are still running 1.5 and 1.6.
Personally, I think it will be hilarious if Sprint is the first carrier in America to upgrade a phone from 1.5 to 2.1. If this upgrade happens soon, this will certainly be the case. I just don't get how people can be so upset that we don't have the official 2.1 yet when there are only three phones that have it (two of which launched with it, and one of which launched with 2.0).
I apologize for making a new thread, but I wanted the chart below to have it's own space, and I didn't want it to get buried in one of the many other 2.1 threads. I believe this chart contains every Android phone available on one of the 4 major carriers in America. I compiled this list using wikipedia, so I didn't verify that it is 100% valid. I listed only phones available in America, and cleaned up the formatting to make it useful. Enjoy.

I Gotta say that no one should be PO'D at Sprint,HTC or any other company for that matter, Sprint is the Best carrier I've been. Quit whining 2.1 will arrive before you all know it. Shut up root your hero while you still can flash a custom 2.1 rom and be happy. i Know im not gonna to upgrade to the official release. Ill wait to one my fav dev's puts out a 2.1 rom based off the otw upgrade with all fat trimmed off so it runs the way it should. So everybody behave your selves the upgrade from sprint will come no doubt, then you can go back to whining about how laggy and buggy your 2.1 hero is.
As for me Im gonna flash toast's new one fresh-toast 1.1, oh maybe something from damageless, oh hey darchstar's got a new one wow decision, decisions, lol
Thanks for doing this.
This definitively shows that the problem is not with Sprint and that manufacturers seem to have decided that there is no benefit to them whatsoever to supporting existing customers. Google is also failing to get the situation under control.

I agree upgrade to the latest EVO 4G anyone

I agree that people should stop whining about 2.1, it's more annoying than the 2.1 posts.
I guess my personal aggravation is the fact that it seems if you don't have the latest and greatest phone through your carrier's catalog you seem to just be cast in the corner. Was it not just 5 months ago the Hero was the savior and pride and joy of sprint's network and now with the evo on its way it's as if were the red headed child sitting in the corner. I agree that when it comes it comes but I just don't like the feel a company gives when they do something like that. Yes market and pay attention to your new toy but don't forget your loyal followers and their needs when we're locked in to at least 12 months with a phone you just called the greatest thing since the last big hit.
Its always been the same with every OS and every carrier. I remember being wint Windows same thing, these company make the money in the hardware not software therefore it's no business sense to give a great deal of support for older hardware. The truth of the matter is that for companies like HTC, people will continue to purchase the latest, even after all the waiting on the Hero most people will still go out and get the Evo. The only company making great support is Apple.

That's it people.

sprint still sucks Di** in my opinion, 2.1 or not
I will tell you why I am upset with sprint over this. It's because sprint in conjunction with HTC and Samsung decided back late last year that instead of doing maintenance updates to fix the known issues with both phones they would upgrade the phones to 2.1 and include the fixes then. This certainly implied some urgency on their part. But apparently none of the companies involved put enough resources into the upgrade. Also this fantasy of doing both phones at the same time tells me they are not interested in getting the updates out as soon as they are available because someone might be upset if one gets done before the other.
I rooted back in Jan and my phone works great. But I also expect when I buy a premium phone that it is supported properly by Sprint and the phone manufactures. If they can't do that then they have failed. I don't care if no other phone has been upgraded to 2.1. Every other carrier in the US has a phone that runs 2.1 yet sprint can't even give us a date to have that option. They have really screwed this up.

Well since I don't go to salespersons who don't in some way look after my interests that would mean that I wouldn't go back to Sprint. I have no intention of doing that. Sprint provides a quality service at an affordable price. They just can't afford to continue to make mistakes like this or they will continue their decline until they are out of business and I don't want to see that happen.
it's the old "fire and forget" routine.

Completely off topic, but has anyone ever actually had to say "TouchWiz" out loud to someone?
Talk about the worst product name ever. I don't think I could buy a phone with that UI on it, simply because I would be too embarrassed to actually tell anyone that I was playing with my "TouchWiz".

What the hell? AT&Fee doesn't have a 2.1 device and neither does T-Mobile really. They have the Nexus One, but it is not sold in stores and with all the hardware and software issues, it's not worth mentioning. The only carrier with any 2.1 devices is Verizon and that is just as of now. The MT3G, EVO, and other devices are well on the way.
think of it this way... you're gonna want to run Froyo when it comes out anyway & NO WAY is Sprint or HTC gonna bother with an official upgrade for that. They'll be pushing the EVO/Next Big Thing. Thank goodness for the great developers working on stuff here.
-No win7 support , although even though our hardware if far supperior to the win 7 devices currently
-horrific support (HTC has to be nobel price winning at sucky support)
-battery life is amazingly bad..some members here report success with alternative chinese batterie types, but come on we paid our bottoms off for the thing we shouldnt have to bleed our eyes out on 3rd party web merchant pages
-its being discussed that we are not even going to get 6.5.3 or 6.5.5 upgrades even though omnia II and toshiba models will(or have dunno)
-millions of buggs that shouldnt be there in the first place
-lack of supported apps
-overpriced marketplace
Such a mixed feeling..I truly and deeply love the device i hold in my palm as i write this..but its like i am holding the hand of a relative in a hospital dieing..is truly HTC gonna give away the future of such a brilliant phone?have we payed 50% more of the value of the competitor's phone(iphone) price and go nowhere (while they get their free os 4 upgrade) ? i feel so decieved..i even got to thinking ways i could cheat for my warranty to get my money back..
-edit : forgot the 250ms sound delay woe issue (one of the reasons we bought this cursed phone was to watch movies in its perfect screen dammit)
You got what you paid for, the hardware is already surpassed by the Evo 4G, in a few months time it will be even farther behind, such is the way of tech. WP7 was never promised, only speculated so that is not a valid argument.
Your other reasons are otherwise sound to varying extents, but at the end of the day this is still a fantastic device, so no, I dont think anyone who bought the device and is happy should be looking for ways to get rid of it. If you dont like it, return it or sell it but it works very well for a large number of us.
So that the fact that they do not even care enough to upgrade it to something as idioticaly as simple as 6.5.3 version (hich like 40 roms in here have) doesnt make u feel they are throwing the phone support (that made me laugh) away?
And no, i do not get what i paid for..i paid nearly 800$ for this..no not even marginaly close to it.

No, I agree totally with your view of HTC support, I actually think they are the worst phone manufacturer among WM OEM's, contrary to what everyone else thinks because they like the eye-candy of Sense, which I think is utter bug-ridden rubbish.
HTC has the HD Mini out now, you would think they would be releasing 6.5.3 updates for all their phones, especially the HD2, but this is typical HTC, once a device is released the normal support life cycle is 6 months, then we are left to our own devices while they work on the next device. In the current climate, HTC is apparently focusing entirely on their android phones, so we WM users are left to look on and lament our lack of updates.
As for getting what you paid for, I guess we will have to disagree, I never expected HTC to provide an update to 6.5.3, knowing their past history and considering they never announced it. I knew I could only count on the OS they shipped the device with, and anything above that would likely come from Xda.
You have a great device there, the hardware is top notch and capable of outstanding performance, just dont look to HTC for any kind of realistic support. Xda is your friend and will give better support and performance enhancements than HTC ever has.

I have the standard battery, it lasts between 1.5 and 3 days. Thats better than my Nokia E90 and my N80 ever was.
Not to mention the fact I have 3 email accounts checking every 15 - 30 minutes, Windows Live (hotmail in the background), at least 30 mins 3G browsing, some light games and texts + calls.

You seem to be stuck in a mindset which goes against that of technological advancements over the last, say, 50 years.
The computer you buy tomorrow was out of date last week, that surround sound system you've got, that's been surpassed several times since you bought it.
You do realise that the iPhone OS upgrade was to insert features that most phone companies have been producing lines of phones with for almost a decade?
Cut and Paste for instance, was first used (in a computer sense) in a Xerox environment in the 1960s, Apple's iPhone was announced in 2007. It didn't support it until an OS upgrade. The first Windows PocketPCs in the mid/late nineties had it as standard.
The iPhone's hardware is 50% of the capacity of the HD2, maybe you did get what you paid for?

The HD2 is far from dead.... there will be people making roms and writing apps for it for years still. It's gonna be known as the last great WinMobile phone. It will remain as the best WinMobile 6.5 device, and for that fact, I think it will last longer than most phones do.
There are still people supporting phones from 5 years ago on these forums.
What is it that you signed up for? Nothing was promised for this phone other than what came with it. HTCs customer service sucks, but they make some great devices, and with them we get XDA support here! Thats much better than the support any other oem gives, imo.

this was a comment because imho past devices were not as promising as the imminent are..nevertheless my problem is that i the services that came with my purchase feel like being molested..absolutely no future in it from the developer's end..i really dont know if its that typical of HTC to manage in that manner, and if it is is till do not know why this company still exist.

Issues mentioned in forums are negatively biased. People with problems are more likely to come here and post their problems as opposed to the many people who are not having problems.
Secondly, if you want to troll, do it on MySpace. April 2010 join date, seriously? If you don't like your phone, sell it and be done with it. Stop whining because you didn't have the common sense to read the labels on what exactly HTC is selling in the HD2. HTC is a phone manufacturer. Ergo, their job is to keep selling phones, even if it means phasing out past models. If you do not agree with this business strategy, go with another company that suits your needs.
How many 1000's are in use?
You have to realize how many of the hd2's are in use! I wish someone would count the number of people on these forums that are having problems, since they come here to get fixes. Not too many people go to forums, if everything is working ok. We have over 7000 members on htchd2forum.com the % is pretty clear, most are great!! Think about it,"if your car runs ok, do you go to dealer & tell them? If it is giving you trouble ,you call, complain, go in, get it fixed? HUH? wierd concept!! Sorry, got going,, I like this phone better than anything I've ever had!! But that is"me" not "you"! Goodluck,,Quig

I GUESS I really didnt know the HTC way of thinking...apple and android seem to get it a lot different..although they state 6.x phone support is not halted it indeed is..no upgrades,no updates,no nothing...i guess i should start flashing or im stuck with the ton of problems bundled in my handheld
I dont see the point in making these kind of thread. What will u get from these?
If u have problem, then try to search and solve it.
If u dont like the phone, then try to sell it.
Is it easier to feel better than making these threads and have most of people tell that u wrong here?
As far as I see, most of people who complain about their devices are people who just joined in to ask and complain. They messed up with their phone then try to get people to help them fix it. This phone is just amazing and works out of the box.
Let's compare the ones that have problems with the ones that dont, who only focus on flashing and trying roms. Maybe at a rate of 100 and 10000?
Hey guys!
I think chris2busy actaully does like the phone, but he is probably just really fustrated with the lack of support. I mean, usually, wouldnt it make sense that if you had issues with a certain product you have purchased from a certain company, then u should get all the support from them(Mostly). But for me, this forum is my support.
Also, I too agree with the point that why on earth, after paying so much money, do we have to rely on third party apps to tackle issues that shouldnt really be there in the first place? I mean, why doesnt it just simply work right out of the box? Dont get me wrong, i love customising my phone, but these customisations should really be for "customising" our phones with what suites us & looks good in our eyes....not to fix issues that HTC/WinMo shouldve done. I still love my HD2 but these are just some things we ALL couldve done without......
Finally, No, we shouldnt be thinking of getting rid of this phone as its "Kick Ass!"
(watched the movie last night, so still in that mood!)
I do not like this moaning and groaning, It has been posted recently that it takes time to know your new device. If you're not willing to spend that time, then stop harrassing us/this forum with your "complaints". By the way: what's the point of your post anyway?
Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to let you see how much I have learned. I sent my phone to WindowsHD.com and had them mod the phone for me. I received it back and started tweaking it myself. I want you to see what can be done after WindowsHD.com created an amazing phone that can be tweaked to the sky. I customized the entire theme that you will see. Hope you like it!! It is called the Chanel Ultimate Theme. Thanks XDA-Developers and PPCGeeks along with the crew at WindowsHD.com for starting me in the right direction.
P.S. This is not the Dusk Theme. It uses parts of it but the theme was custom made by me.

Re: Chanel Theme
Hi,
I sent the phone to WindowsHD.com because I did not know how to unlock it. The phone was locked along with the sim card. I tried a few things that I found online and messed-up the phone..so off it went. WindowsHD.com fixed my phone, unlocked it, flashed it and customized it and sent it back to me unlocked. I then started to experiment as everyone does on XDA with different mods. I used different parts from different theme packages and put together what I call "The Ultimate Chanel Theme". I have not seen one custom theme on any BB's that even come close to mine. My theme is clean, classy and it shines. It is the "best" $24.95 I have ever spent. The same phone at T-Mobile unlocked is selling for almost $600 and they are trying to call it the HTC HD. My phone blows away the T-Mobile HTC HD and it only cost me $24.95. I received the phone for free from Sprint. Also, for XDA-Developers along with the people at PPCGeeks, I cannot thank the teams enough for the great BB's they host for everyone that likes to learn how to mod a phone, like myself. So thank you for your positive remarks. I love reading positive feedback. Jen
Yeah, this is just someone trying to get you to look into WindowsHD. They're probably a scam website that'll take your phone and your money and you'll never hear from them again.
Just sayin, you boys need to avoid this one.
Re: WindowsHD.com
Hi,
I would love to see what your phone theme looks like. You have many negative comments with only 74 posts in a year. If you think you know it all, put up or shut up! XDA-Developers and PPCGeeks are BB's for people to learn how to mod phones. I messed-up when I tried to flash my phone. WindowsHD.com fixed my phone for me. When people drop-off computers at places like Best Buy to be fixed, do you also say the same thing about the guys who work there? Watch out, they may steal your data? You need to take a chill pill and use these BB's as a learning tool instead of making fun of someone who just started out learning about all this mobile phone stuff. If you cannot post anything positive, don't post at all. WindowsHD.com did not steal my phone! They are a reputable website. Jen

You are either referring to the HD2 or the Touch Pro 2 (this is a TP2 board). Either way, neither phone costs $600 even you bought it unsubsidized (no contract). Please do your research before spouting such claims.
HD2 MSRP $449.99 and TP2 MSRP $399.99

The HD2 has 512MB of RAM and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor. The Touch Pro 2 has 256MB of RAM and a 528MHz Qualcomm processor. Spec-wise, the HD2 blows the TP2 out of the water. The capacitive screen on the HD2 is a pleasure to use, although I do prefer the speed of the TP2's physical keyboard.
Secondly, the phone was already capable of doing what your phone is doing now. WindowsHD.com did nothing that you could not do on your own. If you have the RUU for Sprint's Touch Pro 2, it will bring your phone back to it's original factory settings and it can be found online. All you need is ActiveSync and the RUU, both of which are free.
Strike two.

Hi,
Just to let you know, you are wrong. The price of an unlocked TP2 goes off between $300 and $600 online. Strike 1....Now, you think you know it all, 72 posts in one year, Mr. I know it all. You have nothing at all to contribute to this board accept for negative posts. Strike 2....As for the HD blowing away the HTC TP 2, think again, if you install the right apps and rom, you will get the same performance out of the HTC TP 2...Strike 3...You are stupid...

I could very well be wrong but I dont think its possible to overclock the Touch Pro 2 to run at 1 gig... Someone else can chime in but I think it maxes out at 7oo and change. Also by running it at that speed you can damage your phone, again.. someone who knows about overclocking can chime in and comment if I'm wrong.
Sooo yeah, no the touch pro 2's performance will NEVER be as good as the HTC HD2, bigger screen, better specs. The only thing the Touch Pro 2 has going for it right now is the physical keyboard. Which I'm certain once someone has a phone with a full keyboard they would be hard pressed to go to one without one.
I wouldnt go saying this person was coming off as a "know it all at all" In fact they were mearly just stating facts. Everthing you paid this company to do you can do yourself. Although I do understand people who are too nervous to do stuff themselves wanting to send it away. You could have likely found a cell phone booth in your mall that would have unlocked your phone for you... or you can just get companies to unlock it via email (they give you the code etc etc)
You have to of known that by saying "Look what I got... and only for 24 dollars too" was likely going to get you flamed just a bit. There are thousands of people who do what they did to your phone on this forum doing it themselves so, you're bound to run into a few who think you got the short end of the stick.
What they were saying wasn't meant to be negative I dont think. You clearly took it as such because you feel you got a great deal for what they did to your phone. Others might feel they were ripped off because they were charged 24 dollars to have someone flash a rom to their phone and install a few other cabs. All of which we can do our selves. If you feel good about your purchase. Good for you and thank you for sharing your thoughts on the company.
Now, regarding your prices there. I'm going to have to disgree with you on that, sorry. When the Touch pro 2 was originally released yes, it was going for 600 dollars off contract..... Now, yeah not so much. Anyone who is going to buy a phone like this is going to do their research and they'll know they can get it for a few hundred dollars. Someone who pays the same "retail" price from when it was originally released is an idiot and I just feel bad for them
You also said an unlocked phone can go from $300-$600??? Don't you think that price range is a little ridiculous considering the phones would all be the SAME. Hey here's an unlocked phone for 300... No no by mine its the exact same but it's $600. Hmmmm which one are people going to choose.
Good luck with your phone. Like I said, I'm glad you like your device and enjoy learning more tweaks and hacks..
Keep coming back!
Ps: If your phone is overclocked I would do some serious reading about it to see if it's going to kill the phone. I know at bare minimum it lessons the life of the phone when you push it into the red.

I think that with the same ROM, the HD2 will indeed outpace the TP2 - it has twice the processor, twice the ROM (storage memory) and twice the RAM (and RAM is the biggest issue with the TP2).
I'm pretty sure someone else advertised about that website before...they are most likely working for the company
My apologies if you're not...but like others said, all the graphics and fixes you have can be obtained for free and they are not even hard to work with. I'm glad you like your purchases but I would rather spend $25 on something more worth it

You really are quite the piece of work. You sit there and claim that the phone sells for $300 to $600 online when you show absolutely NO definitive proof. If you weren't so lazy, you would have clicked the links I provided earlier to see that the T-Mobile version of the phone (which you were referring to) sells OUT OF CONTRACT for less than $450.
Fail.

I never said I know it all, so don't go putting words in other people's posts. Secondly, I've been a member of the forum for nearly 3 years, even if I only have 72 posts. I just lurk more than I post. Thirdly, you haven't even seen any of my posts so don't tell me that all I have to say is negative things. I refuse to allow good, honest members of this forum get scammed by people advertising a site that looks like it was designed by a 5th grader using DreamWeaver. Lastly, WindowsHD.com hides it's "Contact Us" link at the very bottom of the page and the only option you get is an e-mail link to [email protected]. I'm sorry, but I cannot trust a company where I cannot call and reach a LIVE HUMAN BEING.
Super fail.

Although it is true that some custom ROMs will make the phone more responsive and better at handling memory by removing bloatware, having more RAM and a faster processor will make a far greater difference than any custom ROM. Believe me, if the TP2 had the specs of the HD2 (minus the 4.3" screen, the TP2 is big enough already), the phone would sell like hot cakes! Honestly, what kind of phone would you rather have?
528MHz processor and 256MB of RAM
or
1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM
Oh yeah, name calling really helped you win this argument.
EDIT: Just for fun, I took a look at their products. Listen to this.

I've done ROM upgrades on my Wing (201MHz processor and 64MB of RAM) and it took all of 10 minutes to flash the ROM. The Wing had less than half of the processor and a FRACTION of the RAM that the TP2 has and I had the phone up and running in less than 1 hour. Also, MS Office comes with all Windows Mobile phones.
i'm not going to flame you but i will offer some advice. The next time you get a shiny new HTC device come to XDA and look around first (search is your best friend here) if you want to mod it. if you can't find what you're looking for request it, the people here are more than willing to help you out. there are plenty of tutorials and instructions here so that you won't screw up your device if you follow them.
If you're happy with what you paid for thats great!
Bottom line:
1. Never trust anyone with a weak handshake.
2. Don't eat the worm in a tequila bottle.
3. Never give out your IMEI number.
4. NEVER, NEVER Pay for something that is available for free.
(unless you want to donate for people's hard work here)
so the streak has been released in the US now and for quite some time in the UK/euro and nothing has changed.
we got a few companys making cases that are neither unique or exciting but basically we are still stuck with a niche device with a small user base. now i love my streak but i cant help but feel is only a matter of time before it gets pulled from sale and all support/updates axed. i know at the moment its a hot device but you have to admit there is a air of death in the air compared to say the galaxy S.
i hope im wrong but i really dont think i am.
Isnt 2.2 suppose to be released in September for streaks in America? Then again I don't think it's confirmed. Once 2.2 is out things should speed up also the fact the streak doesn't appeal to a massive audience it seems to appeal more to us geeks that's all we need. It shouldnt be to long before dell release the source i would imagine.
Also no offense to the galaxy s but it has its fair share of problems and that really doesn't do it any favors so I wouldn't be writing about that .

if Dell get the marketing right they could have a hit on their hands. here in the UK i've been out the field the last week (literally, camping) and the Streak proved it's mettle and a great talking point. now, at this juncture i think Dell suffer a bit from being branded a "box shifter" but i honestly think if Dell get their values correct with the Streak it will be around for a long time.
however, i am the first to admit that Dell does not have a great track record at leading a category - they tend to do whatever Microsoft and intel tell them to do (to the tune of a few tens of millions of dollars if anyone's been following the court case).
you just know when Apple release a 5" pocket computerphone that the pod people will buoy the marketing along for Apple ... Dell just does not inspire that kind of loyalty, or, is/has been getting the grass roots/astroturfing balancing act totally wrong.
It very much reminds me the story of N900.
Great hardware with great potential killed by the lack of interest of manufacturer, caused by the inability of big corporations to follow up on innovation.
I think the reason it does not move so fast at the moment is the lack if an updated os, but having mine for about an week now, I have to say the old os is somehow conceiled very good. The only lacks are the newest features that I have become used to via eclair and froyo..
And I am very sure that a lot of people are waiting to buy until froyo arrives. And as more and more people get tech interested, these " niche" gadgets get more popular.. So my two cents say that Dell will have the success they intended with the device.

Until he took streak to a hand noticing how thin it is. And it fits into my pocket! Amazing. And the touch screen is very nice...

It bugs me that so many reviewers cite old "firmware" (presumably they mean OS) as a reason to mark down the Streak. That's a crap reason, and a hallmark of a crap reviewer IMHO. I bought my Streak over the Desire because I knew that any (ok... most) software issues can and will be corrected, either by Dell or by us lot over here... but no software update will allow the Desire to browse the internet so comfortably, or be a reasonable e-reader, or enhance the (slightly) weaker battery, or make it such a beautiful platform for CoPilot, etc. In face, the only thing I did not like was the proprietary connector (because that can't be fixed by software). That is, until I found out it's a PDMI port.
A friend of mine recently crowed about updating his Desire to Froyo. I asked if it'd upgraded him to a 5" screen. He looked sad.
I just can't help feeling that over the next few months, we will find the Streak becoming greater and greater as cooked ROMs emerge. Good times ahead.
Honestly I think our best hope for Froyo is to keep bugging Dell about their GPL violations until they release their source so the community can get it up and running themselves (and yes, that's not such a great option either). Given what I have seen so far, I wouldn't really trust Dell on this.

You are not wrong. And that's why I haven't bought one yet. I even get a 10% Dell discount because I'm a student. But the lack of buzz and adoption of the Streak almost guarantees it to obscurity or failure. At that time I'll happily pick one up. I feel it's just priced too high and will slide down the closer we get to super/hot/awesome/fire greatness or the next thing. I'd like it to succeed as well, but I think Dell has screwed this from the start.

I will assume the idea from Dell was not to release this as an "mainstream" device, but a device to appeal to geeks and such. It is no way that Dell thinks 5" is a phone for the mass market!
I am pretty sure this is a device launched to make Dell look like an serious actor to be reckoned with in the future. Genius would I say starting on the top of the pack.
But, just my opinion....

the Streak makes them look 'tacky n nasty little boys toys', which is what they are.
The Streak is like owning a top of the range BMW, you're not going to find accessories for it in Halfords/Wallmart
With a lot of bug...
I think the real failure in north america is the device is locked to at&t used only.
At the end, it's a nice device to have.

I don't think i've ever visited a forum where people download an OBVIOUSLY UNFINISHED AND UNTESTED ITEM then all winge about it
All the BS about it being official and how you should send the 'leaker' a donation makes me want to puke.
NEWS: the official one (when released) will be mentioned on the official websites, them being Dell or 02 themselves which will have a link, might be a bit obvious for some!
If Dell Streak owners are all that gullible, i'm going to start buying all the old first release 1.6 seconhand ones on ebay i can find, install 2.1 then sell them as BNIB just delivered from factory. As they obviously believe everything they are told.
In the End

Besides, was there ever a perfect product?? Look at the iphone, took them a whole year just to get cut and paste, 3 years to get even basic multi-tasking.
cut and paste are not here on my Dell Streak...
Only on specific application but not on email...
Yes, I know that this build is a "beta" but from this topic and an other this build (8023) is a GM build, isn't it ?
So, If this build is a GM, I think the network driver is not finished, that all !
I have full network at home with my iPhone and my HTC and my Dell Streak too, but I lost the network on my Dell Streak frequently...
