Hi all,
the Leo shoulda ask at each USB plug-in what to be (AS, disk or inet-sharing). Now, after I tried inet-sharing once, the question doesn't appear at USB plugin (now always the inet-sharing app opens), and if I set mode manually via Settings, then the AS mode is same as the inet-sharing mode.
Any ideas how to fix it w/o hardreset?
Hi
Go to:
1: Configuration
2: Inalambric control
3: Press menu:
4: Press USB to PC
5 Desactivate the menu inside ActiveSync: Fast data sync
If you have the menu: Fast data sync you will lose activesync
My menus is spanish, sorry for my English
Hope will help you
Best Regards
No offence intended, what Anastomosys has to say is correct although the words are slightly different so here they are in English..
1) Settings>
2) Other>
3) USB to PC>
4) disable by removing the tick in the box for "Enable faster data synchronization"
I've found that mine seems to be a bit temperamental about whether it connects to WMDC and having that box ticked does seem to mess it up a bit!
This has helped indeed, but only partially - still after each connection the f***ing Internet Sharing app pops up on the HD2
Thanks!
To make things even better: internet sharing is handled via IntShr.exe/IntShrUI.exe. Both can't be found in the registry (HKCR => some file association, HKCU => hides the apps from HTC TaskMgr, HKLM => HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINTERNET_SHARING, whatever that does and in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\TouchGL\VirtualDesktop\WhiteList\INTERNET_SHARING, same case).
Any idea how to prevent this sucker from starting?
Newest update: I collected a list of what mode in the popup responds to which Option in HKLM\Software\HTC\USBToPCPopUP:
Code:
ActiveSync
Option 0
ActiveSync HS
Option 0 / 2 (does not get changed, manually setting 2 leads to this)
Disk
Option 1
IntShr
Option 3
Companion
Option 4
OnlyTwoChoice from 0 to 1 limits the choice to AS, AS Highspeed and Disk (and also prevents IntShr from executing), however in AS HS mode the device is seen as Internet Sharing device by Windows.

did you already try deleting the whole relationship on the active sync?
if not, perhaps you should do so and create a new one.
and see what happens.
it's not about the relationship. the error is on the leo itself, it doesnt even expose an activesync device, always a "windows mobile internet sharing device"
This happened to me and disabling the "faster transfer" box did get activesync back working but I was unhappy to not know cause of the problem. I found out what it was shortly after, I had disabled the "windows mobile remote adapter" connection in my network connections in vista. after disabling it (at time I thought it was causing trouble with wireless connection) when I plugged in the phone I would hear the failed usb connection sound and no sync would happen, re-enabling has fixed this. This might not be related to your issue but it was what was the problem in my case

I have setup the latest Mobile Device Center software (Device Update?) from Microsoft on Vista Business Edition.
I have the Imate JasJam from Telstra with the latest firmware from Club Imate.
When I try to setup a partnership under Vista I get the following error, which no amount of googling can find a solution for.
Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to Receive Connection (0x800700aa) failure (see data for failure code).
No amount of hard resetting or flashing from Club Imate or uninstall/reinstall of MDC software solves this.
I have disabled the firewall as well in case that had something to do with it, and I have unticked the advanced USB in the Connections settings.
Any suggestions/solutions would be greatly appreciated.
I had this issue with MDC when I installed Vista, I found that the MDC has not installed correctly so downloaded it again from the MS web site and its been fine ever since, now syncing multiple devices through the device centre.
As I said, it worked for me.
I have a similar problem... When I try to sync TyTN (WM5) with my Notebook I have an error after few minutes.
I don't know why!!!
Im in the same boat. I have done everything... firewall, install, re-install, mess with drivers... I even went as far as to warrenty exchange my phone thinking it was the issue (well... it actually was with that phone as it wouldnt sync with another pc). Got the new phone (which syns with my XP machine now) still does not work!

Try... in Settings > Connections > USB to PC uncheck Advanced features.
tried that many times as well...
Try the following:
* Check the checkbox "Enable advanced network functionality"
* Connect the TyTN
* It will show up in Device Manager (as Windows Mobile Device)
* Rightclick this device and choose "Update driver"
* Choose "Browse my computer for driver software"
* Choose "Let me pick from a list of devices on my computer"
* It will show "Windows Mobile Device"
* Select this device and choose Next
* It will re-install the device
After this I was able to connect my TyTN in Vista.
my fix always worked as long as phone is working...
Goto start and run "msconfig" enter
goto startup
remove all except MWMDC-activesync apps (wcscomm)
goto services
remove all Security products that run after bootup.
SAVE RESTART PC - It should bootup Quicker.
Now THERE IS NO PROTECTION ON YOUR PC!!!!!!!!!
SO UNPLUG INTERNET FROM PC now!
Check you have MWMDC or activesync working(green) than problem is the software you are loading to your Pc.
Or you need to backup full ppc maybe with SPB backup as *.exe file on your MicroSD. I found this one works best when I have done hard reset in the field. Max space used 12-35Mg
Than re establish MWMDC or activesync, Once it is working do full restore.
Now reapply msconfig with all items which are removed. save restart check connections.
Walla all working (I hope), I tested this option nearly 15 times with WM5
and twice with WM6 and Vista
This option works for Vista & XP.
Good luck
Maybe this will help

So I am the only one left...
I still cannot get it to work...
One more possibility........
The one and only suggestion I have - other than everything else that's already been sugggested - is this:
Make sure your phone is connected directly to a USB port on your PC/laptop, and NOT via a USB hub or laptop docking station; it seems that Vista is especially fussy about having "exclusive" access to a USB device. Hubs and docking stations (which are kinda like hubs as far as Windows is concerned) just seem to get in the way
Hope this helps - not sure where you can go next if it doesn't
Mark.
Have a same problem. Did anyone find a solution?
I upgraded my firmware to 2.17 from 2.09 and now my phone cannot sync email while the USB is connected to my pc. Anyway to fix this?
I had this issue with the 2.09 and currently have it with 2.17. Sprint tech help was unaware of this issue (big shock). Does anyone know the answer?
EVDO While on USB
Do you loose all internet connectivity while docked? Have you checked this setting:
On the computer, open ActiveSync and navigate to: File -> Connection Settings..., make sure that "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" is checked.
-Jason
i have the same issue, and the check to allow connections is turned on, at least in xp. I can't find the same option in vista.
I would assume that if I dropped a new ROM on my device I would need to configure a whole new ActiveSync profile. Unfortunately, from my own experience, ActiveSync is a B***H when it comes to having 2 sync profiles. I remember even uninstalling AS and trying to remove all references in Program Files and REG and it still thought I was syncing with the same device.
I would have to suggest something extreme. Installing AS on another PC and trying to sync or... reimage your PC and reinstall AS fresh.
I had the same issue, there is a thread on msn about this...
http://forums.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/ShowPost.aspx?postid=2620369&siteid=65
For me, turning on wifi on and then back off via the hard switch seems to fix the issue. Hope it helps.
try settings-connection-usb to pc- and uncheck Enable Advanced Network Functionality
I can't connect, grayed out. Can't find a solution on this part for the forum for it?
There is no specific solution, as this should just work out-of-the-box. Maybe a proper HardReset will solve the problem?
And BTW: what is grayed out? AS connection is initiated automatically just after connection. Maybe connection is not properly done or cable is damaged?
Reinstalling AS might also work as well. I have had that happen to me before, but before going into HR, reinstalls, flashing, etc., try the obvious ones (ie, try to plug the craddle in a different USB port)
On the pocket :
Start => Settings => System=>USB to PC=>Enable advanced network functionality should be checked
On the PC
open activesync
File => Connection settings=>Allow USB connections should be checked
after these settings your device should connect, if it is not check if your firewall blocks the access of activesync to the network
yes, my only experience of failure was due to a firewall that blocked the connection between BA and AS...
Try to shut it momentarily down and then retry
If you are not successful this way, perhaps you have problems on connectors or cables, but it sounds me quite strange...
Let us know how you are going on!
...or change your USB port...

Xplode. I did all this still it isn't connecting. I haven't tried the XP firewall yet. Now I have read on the above the first option could be untaggged but this was about another device. Many seems to have similar problems when not using Vista and de comm. center but everthing on hardware is working here.I put off the firewal for a moment, reset and it basically didn't do anything. AS is set as an exception in the firwall options. Can't do much more now since I am in the hospital since 5-31
I have the same problem with my notebook. If you're email-account in Outlook is running on an Exchange-Server, ActiveSync will only connect when the PC ist connected to the Exchange-Server. I tryed ActiveSync on an other PC without Exchange and it's working.
Greets Rossi
Meanwhile I removed Office 2003 still I haven't been able to sync with the device.I haven't got any exchange account. I can't remember if I did before at home, sync.Probely not. I can't test because I ain't home yet. I didn't use the BA as my main device, just to experiment with.
Hmm, I did browse the BA via AS at home
I have my TD for 4 month (HTC TD2 EN, ROM 1.39), no problems untill now
every second or third day i connect my TD2 to PC and synchronize calendar and download data or photos
after connection there was always the table to chose the connection mode (Activesync, usb disc, modem) and then i was connected
but it doesnt work now, no table shown, only recharging is on, PC doesnt recognize the connected TD2 - no new or unknown device is shown, no removable disc indicated, nothing
i tried two PC's, WinXP SP2, SP3, Win7, three usb cables, soft reset, hard reset, changing "USB to PC" connection settings in WinMobile
nothing helped, TD2 is only recharging, no connection with PC
Hi , have you tried this? :
go to settings > more > connections on you td2. Then choose USB to PC and hit the last checkmark. (ask me first about blabla..)
Think this will solve your problem.

oh sorry man , didnt read good. Damn you really DID try everything...
sounds like a hardware error to me then, but its strange it can still charge.. good luck
Try to disable Windows(or third party) firewall if you have any.
firewall off didnt help
i tried also windows safe mode - classic flashdisc (removable disc) worked there, Diamond didnt work - it didnt connect as removable disc nor show the dialogue window to chose the connection mode
Diamond didnt work with playstation3 too (as removable disc)
in all cases it was recharging, so recharging and taking the electricity from pc or whatever from calbe is ok, only the data connection is out
i also wrote to HTC support and they replied me that i had tried everything i could (settings, SR, HR, more computers) and that it seemes it is a hardware problem and that i should reclaim the device
Could you confirm that in setup => Connexions =>USB to PC => activate advanced network functionality is uncheked (sorry for the translation my rom is in french).
yes, i can confirm that this option is unchecked, i have tried all possible combination in this settings with no effect
no connection with pc
it must be hardware problem
Same problem
I experienced the same problem today. When I try to connect my D2 to my PC through the cable, the device is only charging while the device is not recognized. Very Strange & I believe that it is a hardware problem. Now, I sync through Bluetooth …
Solved
After Changing the cable, everthing worked fine.
Solved too
It works at me suddenly
Because I couldnt connect to my PC and I wanted to add sth on my memory card I took it out to my card reader.
But then when I needed to recharge my phone (through PC) it showed me the connection table and all worked.
The output and input of the card did sth to the phone and made it work. So it is ok for now and I dont need to send it to the service (and I will not look like an idiot ;-) ).
My ActiveSync won't Sync
I found with "Enable faster data synchronization check box" ON then doesn't even start ActiveSync on PC. Instead the LAN icon starts searching for an IP.
if OFF then it tries then ActiveSync says ERROR code 85010001
this page
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/exchange_errors.php
says An invalid HTTP communication or protocol syntax occurred.
reboot doesn't help.
Are you sync to Exchange of PC files?
if Exchange, try turn off push update, sync, and turn it back on.
sounds like it's stuck in modem mode or something.. have you tried switching between modes? e.g. put it in modem mode and disk drive and then activesync again..
no Exchange
turned off all except contact/calendar
tried disk drive and then activesync but no good
then tried turning bluetooth off and it worked with with "Enable faster data synchronization check box" off
so still not perfect
The more complex, the more can go wrong. Recently my HD2 has not been running activesync on connection. It is a problem after I have hibernated my PC, but also randomly at other times after a disconnect and reconnect.
Following hte advice above I've tried the change to modem, change to disk and back to activesync, but that did not help. Unchecking the "Enable faster data synchronization check box" has now allowed it to connect.
While activesync was unable to connect, I could still connect using a brilliant little program, sadly not recently updated, called mymobiler. That lets me control the HD2 from my PC< and do screen dumps as well. So how come that would connect but MS Activesync would not? And it was not a new install, I've had that since my first few days of the HD2 and worked well until the last couple of weeks, when this issue has become increasingly annoying.
While activesync was telling me I was disconnected, in the Windows 7 Devices and Printers there was an icon for a "Generic RNDIS" but nothing else about it. When on the HD2 I go back into USB to PC and check the tickbox for "Enable faster data synchronization" that icon reappears. Maybe disabling then enabling this check box has sorted it. Time will tell.
Hmmm...
It is not a new issue with activesync and htc phones. This thread is a year old.
In fact a search of hte web shows htis is common across several makes of phone.
Damn. When I installed HTC's latest hotfix for SMS, it soft reset the HD2.
On restart, the HD2 was not recognised by the PC, but it does show in Devices and Printers as the generic RBIS. So; uncheck the "Enable faster data synchronization" and it appears on the PC as a Generic Serial device, then becomes a live device in the Mobile Device Centre. I guess we won't be using faster then.
What I don;'t understand is why both of the showings in the Devices and Printers are Generic. Surely there is a driver?
argh, now it's broken again, had BT on...
htc has no clue and suggests (again) that I just keep creating a new partnership each time I have this issue (daily)
Are you sync'ing to an external exchaneg server as well as locally?
I had an issue with mine that the external exchange and local seemed to clash some how, I deleted the external and all internal connections from the phone's active sync screen and then the local PCwas able to re sync, then added each of the other conections and made sure that there where no contradictions in the syncing rules?
Maybe not your issue but worth mentioning!

I regret this is incomprehensible. "nowt" means nothing, so you are saying that nothing is broken again. That would be good, not bad. Your post then stops part way through and concludes negatively against HTC, though for no reason whatsoever. Please could you repost with something that makes sense?
I have no exchange servers, just local PC,
but all errors are exchange related, so HTC say.
if you dont have an exchange server then remove it completely ftom the list of sync locations (i cant remember how you do this, but its the same screen where you select what you want to sync). ive found that if it isnt being recognised that removing the phone from device manager list in windows (deleting drivers/software if asked) and reconnecting the phone seems to work. i have my driver install set to use windows update to locate drivers so try this as well
HD2 won't activesync via bluetooth
My LEO do sync properly via USB. Not connect absolutely via BT.
my setting is :
internal GPS connect via COM4 to TomTom7, VisualGPSce, TutorAssist
and seems to be:
bluetooth port IN is COM1
bluetooth port OUT is COM2
In my Notebook the lonely Local port is COM5. No other one is available
ActiveSync Bluetooth connection is set on COM5
So i know this thread is way old but figured id give it a try. The screen cracked on my TP2 and I cant get WMDC to recognize my device to pull the data. I'm pretty sure that enable faster data synchronization is checked and my screens broken so i can't fix that. Is there another way I can access the phone? Any help is appreciated ty.
