I upgraded my firmware to 2.17 from 2.09 and now my phone cannot sync email while the USB is connected to my pc. Anyway to fix this?
I had this issue with the 2.09 and currently have it with 2.17. Sprint tech help was unaware of this issue (big shock). Does anyone know the answer?
EVDO While on USB
Do you loose all internet connectivity while docked? Have you checked this setting:
On the computer, open ActiveSync and navigate to: File -> Connection Settings..., make sure that "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" is checked.

i have the same issue, and the check to allow connections is turned on, at least in xp. I can't find the same option in vista.
I would assume that if I dropped a new ROM on my device I would need to configure a whole new ActiveSync profile. Unfortunately, from my own experience, ActiveSync is a B***H when it comes to having 2 sync profiles. I remember even uninstalling AS and trying to remove all references in Program Files and REG and it still thought I was syncing with the same device.
I would have to suggest something extreme. Installing AS on another PC and trying to sync or... reimage your PC and reinstall AS fresh.
I had the same issue, there is a thread on msn about this...
http://forums.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/ShowPost.aspx?postid=2620369&siteid=65
For me, turning on wifi on and then back off via the hard switch seems to fix the issue. Hope it helps.
try settings-connection-usb to pc- and uncheck Enable Advanced Network Functionality

I have my 8525 setup to sync my calendar and contacts with my work exchange server. It works fine unless I connect my phone to my home PC and ActiveSync tries to sync it. I suspect the exchange server is setup to recognize mobile devices and not allow a non mobile device to connect.
Is there anyway to prevent the sync when connected to the PC and leave it enabled for getting it's own updates through it's own data connection?
Or is there a fix to let the PC successfully connect?
Turn off or uninstall ActiveSync on the home computer?
Can you just uninstall or turn off the ActiveSync app on your home PC? If you turn off the 'Start when Windows starts', it should stay off until you decide to open it on your own. The phone should still charge and that is the reason I am assuming you are plugging it in to your home PC. Just my 2cents.
Also depends upon DNS etc.
E.g. I have exchange server on local LAN, but use DynDNS to access it over the internet.
So, entry for my phone is mydomain.dyndns.org (or whatever). Thing is, when you plu the phone a PC on the LAN at home, it tries to resolve mydomain.dyndns.org, which of course it does, and ends up with my external internet address.
I solved this by putting an entry mydomain.dyndns.org in the hosts file of the PC I use to connect the phone, pointing to the LOCAL LAN address of the exchange server.
Hope that makes sense.
Could, of course, be irrelevant for you tho
Actually, I have just re-read your orginal post where you mention "Work Exchange Server" so what i have said is indeed probably irrelevant.

I do use ActiveSync on my PC on occasion to install/remove software.
I am not aware of any way to deactivate it though. I could of course remove it from startup applications but once you launch it you cannot shut it down easily.

Exactly.
The issue is work exchange and home PC.
Oddly though, I do not remember having this problem on my 8125. Perhaps I did have it and just do not remember.
Is there a way to stop the device from using the PC internet connect and force it to use it's own radio? I suspect this is not the device so much as it is ActiveSync on the PC side.
Is it a known issue that the exchange server is looking at the connecting device to determine if it is indeed a mobile device? The exchange server domain is listed as mobile.mydomain.com where our normal remote access exchange domain for Outlook Web Access would be mail.mydomain.com making me think it is specifically setup for Windows Mobile devices and it does some detection of the device type.
I do not seem to be able to setup different sync settings on the PC than on the device as they update to the other when connected.
Others must have this problem as well but I have not seen any other threads on it yet.
I'm just guessing here...
maybe you can try to erase your device from your home pc and stablis a new partnership again, but this time when the options apear, choose to sync nothing, I mean disable the sync options in ActiveSync at your home...
or set the new partnership as guest, this way the PPC wont try to sync but will let you explore or install programs.
If I understood rigth, you dont neet to sync info with your home pc, just instal programs or explore the PPC
edit: also, in Connection Settings in activesync put a checkmark in "allow wireless connection..." just to let your phone have a GPRS connection while attached to your pc.
Hope it could help.

Mablan
I cannot find an "Allow wirelessconnection" option in ActiveSync. I am running the version released a couple of months ago for the DST fix.
I think not plugging into the PC to charge may be the way to go and either plug into another PC without ActiveSync or into the AC charger. I was thinking about getting a cradle though and that would be a nuisance.
Would this same issue occur if I were using BlueTooth to sync with the PC? I wonder.
I also frequently have problems if the 8525 is left plugged into the computer overnight. It will sometimes lock up on me so that I cannot turn it on and have to soft reset, or it will seem to be working until I try and make a data connection and find that it will not connect and also requires a soft reset. This is a major nuisance when I am playing audio through a BT connect in my car and realize I cannot connect data and have to reset. The BT connect in my car is NOT automatic and I have to go to Com Manager/Settings/Bluetooth Settings/Devices then I have to Top/Hold on my Scosche adapter and select Set as Wireless Stereo. This is difficult to do while driving. Might have to look for a different BT receiver for the car as this is a nuisance that does not exist in my HT820 headset.

In Activesync...open File menu, then choose Connection Settings, a pop up window will open, in that window the last option is the one that has to be checked...
Also, if you connect your device to PC in home only for charging it, then I think the option of conect as guess is a good opction...

Are you getting an error message?
Try browsing the internet while connected to the PC. Its often an XP firewall/security issue. I had the same problem with one of my PCs. Installing AS 4.5 fixed it.
Hope that helps you.
i have tried several soft resets, hard resets, uninstalling activesync, reinstalling activesync and none of my computors will recognize my mogul. i have checked settings and for the life of me i can't seem to figure whats going on. can anyone please help?
Try this, go to:
Start > Settings > Connections tab > USB to PC
Uncheck "Enable advanced network functionality"
My VX6800 will not connect to Active Synch with this enabled. Hope it helps.
Ks.
same boat...
i have the same problem. uncked the advance network settings, no go.
have synced before.
now looks like pc doesnt even see ppc plugged in.
wierd cause usb will charge phone but no connection.
One other thing I had noticed on mine during all this was that once the phone was in this state I would have to manually stop Active Sync on the phone and then reconnect to the PC.
try deleting the activesync partnership on the phone (not the pc)
Where do you do that at?

In activesync under menu|options|delete
I don't know if this is relevant to your issue but I had the same problem however, I was connecting my phone to my PC via a USB hub. I connected great the first time and when I tried to connect the second time Active Sync on my PC would not find my phone. What I ended up doing was unplugging my printer from the USB port on my PC and plugging my phone directly into the PC and it found it fine. This also happened with a card reader I have. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you aren't plugging your phone directly into the USB port on your PC that may be what's causing the problem.
i have looked in the activesync on my mogul and the options isnt bold face print. the options is empty. im at total loss. i call a sprint rep and they said it was the phone.
I had the same problem, it went away when I updated the ROM!
Active sync worked for a about a week, it would not connect so that I could install applications, albeit I could browse the device using the explorer function.
(all of the following failed: deleted active sync profiles, disabled firewall, reinstalled activesync, hard reset and tried to use sprite backup restore (for contacts, which failed))
qu1nn
quinn, how did u flash a new rom if u can't activesync?
Try everything here first:
http://forums.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/ShowPost.aspx?postid=2620369&siteid=65
Then try a hard reset before flashing.
still stuck
i read the microsoft forum and to be honest nothing there helped me. there was another person on there that had the same issue but no one there seemed to resolve it. has anyone found a workable solution? i have read in another forum that i would have to call sprint because it might be an issue with the phone. i would try that venue except my phone has been flashed to cricket. any suggestions?
I had the same problem after spending lotof time trying all the things already posted, I find a solution that worked for me I hope works for you
in your pc go to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync
then find WCESMgr.exe right click in the mouse and doble click run as
then type your login and you should be able to get back your sync
hope it work sfor you
try this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349997
I noticed that on Windows XP you have to uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality. If this does not resolve your problem Try plugging your phone into a different usb port on your computer. If this resolves your issue, You should consider deleting the phone from Device Manager. When you plug it in again it will reinstall the drivers and work.
On vista I have not experienced these issues. You can leave the Advanced network func checked.
Hope this helps,

yo I did this on my mogul and my computer recognized it but as a hardware. IT said something like this:"htcusbplug" i installed it but it still doesnt open up activesync.
@ artenis: im having the exact same problem...wont recognize the device at all, even though it charges fine...(im running alex's wm6.1 beta 2 rom...could wm6.1 have something to do with it?)
i had the exact same issue with my sprint mogul, tired everything, formatted my laptop, reinstalled activesync, hard and soft reset the phone, tried other usb/computers, nothing. luckily i have sprints EPP and just took it to the store for a swap for a new mogul, got a new box and everything.. good luck
Same problem with Vista Ultimate 64bit
I had the same issue with my desktop, but after trying everything I could think of, decided to give Microsoft a try.
The drivers included in the pre-installed version of Windows Mobile Device Center would not allow the computer to recognize the Mogul, so I simply reinstalled the application from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx
Everything works fine now.
Everytime I try and sync my Dual I get the messge "To synchronize this device, you must install Activesync 4.5 or newer on your desktop computer". I have been all over the internet looking for a solution but nothing works. I have installed the newest version of Mobile Device Center and updated, unchecked the usb to pc box under connections, nothing works. Can someone plese help me out.
which OS are you using in your desktop pc?
worth a try
1/turn on the speaker volune of your pc + make sure in connecton setting allow usb setting is ticked
2/connect the phone do you hear a sound on connection?
3/does connecting the phone open up the software? if so what happens next?
4/do you have a firewall installed on your pc if so switch it off and try and reconnect the phone this is only for syncing if you are going to use internet sharing then switch back on the firewall/antivirus as it will not affect the network connection
5/if you want to sync with the firewall switched on go to the manufacture of your firewalls(i.e mcfee/norton) website and under support you will find configuration info relating to activesync and firewall software, otherwise do a google search for configuring active sync with your firewall (i.e norton, mcfee)
6/if still no luck try installing the active sync software on another pc and try syncing
7/ what operating system are you using
Yes, check your firewall settings. Had the same problem with NOD.
well i couldnt get it to sync so i just said screw it and reformatted my laptop then did all updates then tried to sync and it worked fine.
I can't connect, grayed out. Can't find a solution on this part for the forum for it?
There is no specific solution, as this should just work out-of-the-box. Maybe a proper HardReset will solve the problem?
And BTW: what is grayed out? AS connection is initiated automatically just after connection. Maybe connection is not properly done or cable is damaged?
Reinstalling AS might also work as well. I have had that happen to me before, but before going into HR, reinstalls, flashing, etc., try the obvious ones (ie, try to plug the craddle in a different USB port)
On the pocket :
Start => Settings => System=>USB to PC=>Enable advanced network functionality should be checked
On the PC
open activesync
File => Connection settings=>Allow USB connections should be checked
after these settings your device should connect, if it is not check if your firewall blocks the access of activesync to the network
yes, my only experience of failure was due to a firewall that blocked the connection between BA and AS...
Try to shut it momentarily down and then retry
If you are not successful this way, perhaps you have problems on connectors or cables, but it sounds me quite strange...
Let us know how you are going on!
...or change your USB port...

Xplode. I did all this still it isn't connecting. I haven't tried the XP firewall yet. Now I have read on the above the first option could be untaggged but this was about another device. Many seems to have similar problems when not using Vista and de comm. center but everthing on hardware is working here.I put off the firewal for a moment, reset and it basically didn't do anything. AS is set as an exception in the firwall options. Can't do much more now since I am in the hospital since 5-31
I have the same problem with my notebook. If you're email-account in Outlook is running on an Exchange-Server, ActiveSync will only connect when the PC ist connected to the Exchange-Server. I tryed ActiveSync on an other PC without Exchange and it's working.
Greets Rossi
Meanwhile I removed Office 2003 still I haven't been able to sync with the device.I haven't got any exchange account. I can't remember if I did before at home, sync.Probely not. I can't test because I ain't home yet. I didn't use the BA as my main device, just to experiment with.
Hmm, I did browse the BA via AS at home
My ActiveSync won't Sync
I found with "Enable faster data synchronization check box" ON then doesn't even start ActiveSync on PC. Instead the LAN icon starts searching for an IP.
if OFF then it tries then ActiveSync says ERROR code 85010001
this page
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/exchange_errors.php
says An invalid HTTP communication or protocol syntax occurred.
reboot doesn't help.
Are you sync to Exchange of PC files?
if Exchange, try turn off push update, sync, and turn it back on.
sounds like it's stuck in modem mode or something.. have you tried switching between modes? e.g. put it in modem mode and disk drive and then activesync again..
no Exchange
turned off all except contact/calendar
tried disk drive and then activesync but no good
then tried turning bluetooth off and it worked with with "Enable faster data synchronization check box" off
so still not perfect
The more complex, the more can go wrong. Recently my HD2 has not been running activesync on connection. It is a problem after I have hibernated my PC, but also randomly at other times after a disconnect and reconnect.
Following hte advice above I've tried the change to modem, change to disk and back to activesync, but that did not help. Unchecking the "Enable faster data synchronization check box" has now allowed it to connect.
While activesync was unable to connect, I could still connect using a brilliant little program, sadly not recently updated, called mymobiler. That lets me control the HD2 from my PC< and do screen dumps as well. So how come that would connect but MS Activesync would not? And it was not a new install, I've had that since my first few days of the HD2 and worked well until the last couple of weeks, when this issue has become increasingly annoying.
While activesync was telling me I was disconnected, in the Windows 7 Devices and Printers there was an icon for a "Generic RNDIS" but nothing else about it. When on the HD2 I go back into USB to PC and check the tickbox for "Enable faster data synchronization" that icon reappears. Maybe disabling then enabling this check box has sorted it. Time will tell.
Hmmm...
It is not a new issue with activesync and htc phones. This thread is a year old.
In fact a search of hte web shows htis is common across several makes of phone.
Damn. When I installed HTC's latest hotfix for SMS, it soft reset the HD2.
On restart, the HD2 was not recognised by the PC, but it does show in Devices and Printers as the generic RBIS. So; uncheck the "Enable faster data synchronization" and it appears on the PC as a Generic Serial device, then becomes a live device in the Mobile Device Centre. I guess we won't be using faster then.
What I don;'t understand is why both of the showings in the Devices and Printers are Generic. Surely there is a driver?
argh, now it's broken again, had BT on...
htc has no clue and suggests (again) that I just keep creating a new partnership each time I have this issue (daily)
Are you sync'ing to an external exchaneg server as well as locally?
I had an issue with mine that the external exchange and local seemed to clash some how, I deleted the external and all internal connections from the phone's active sync screen and then the local PCwas able to re sync, then added each of the other conections and made sure that there where no contradictions in the syncing rules?
Maybe not your issue but worth mentioning!

I regret this is incomprehensible. "nowt" means nothing, so you are saying that nothing is broken again. That would be good, not bad. Your post then stops part way through and concludes negatively against HTC, though for no reason whatsoever. Please could you repost with something that makes sense?
I have no exchange servers, just local PC,
but all errors are exchange related, so HTC say.
if you dont have an exchange server then remove it completely ftom the list of sync locations (i cant remember how you do this, but its the same screen where you select what you want to sync). ive found that if it isnt being recognised that removing the phone from device manager list in windows (deleting drivers/software if asked) and reconnecting the phone seems to work. i have my driver install set to use windows update to locate drivers so try this as well
HD2 won't activesync via bluetooth
My LEO do sync properly via USB. Not connect absolutely via BT.
my setting is :
internal GPS connect via COM4 to TomTom7, VisualGPSce, TutorAssist
and seems to be:
bluetooth port IN is COM1
bluetooth port OUT is COM2
In my Notebook the lonely Local port is COM5. No other one is available
ActiveSync Bluetooth connection is set on COM5
So i know this thread is way old but figured id give it a try. The screen cracked on my TP2 and I cant get WMDC to recognize my device to pull the data. I'm pretty sure that enable faster data synchronization is checked and my screens broken so i can't fix that. Is there another way I can access the phone? Any help is appreciated ty.
