MT3G vs. G1 - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I know that the MyTouch has a better battery and a bit more ROM, but does the MyTouch 3g have any capability or performance upgrades from the G1? From what I understand they have the same processor and the same amount of RAM. But the G1 is the ORIGINAL Android, and its inching closer and closer to obsolescence with every new Android phone and OS upgrade that gets released.
But the MyTouch is much newer, and TMO is still making new ads for it right alongside its competition ie the Hero,Moment,Droid,Eris, all of which have more RAM and for the most part better processors.
Surely theres something about the MyTouch that makes it a better phone phone than the G1 and also makes it competitive with its competition right? Help me out im confused...thanks

Man I wish that article was accurate. But unfortunately (and unfairly ) the mt3g definitely does not have 288mb ram like its European counterpart. Although it damn well ought to have and I curse tmo everytime I look at my poor, weak, incapable, obsolete mytouch. This phone could be tmos flagship phone AND a serious android competitor if only TMO hadn't skimped on ram. I guess you can't really expect otherwise from a company that has no business sense an wholeheartedly hates its customers. Id love for tmo to make me eat my words

lol i just didnt want to write a whole article so i google searched it and posted the first link i saw haha

Our G1 needs a Hemi under the hood!

The g1 is perfect for me but it lacks processing power! HTC needs to wake up and give us a g1 with a hemi! It looks like every new android phone coming out is really a downgrade. I love having a physical keyboard! My friend got a new iphone 3gs and it runs circles around my phone when flying through apps like Google maps and its because the Iphone has a nice processor.
Would be cool if 1000's of us got together and massed emailed HTC until they met our demands
The mytouch is a hemi-G1, since hemi means half or less than a whole.
Mobiles tend to be about, what, 8-10 years behind the desktop, so the HTC Orangutan in Q4 2019 should be able to play Crysis on it's 4" sub-3D infipixelâ„¢ display.
Just wait for the sholes because HTC isn't gonna give you **** anytime soon. Motorola is looking like the best bet for Android in the near future. HTC dont listen to there customers just look at allll the driver issues with older winmo phones.
Also your friends iphone is faster because a) it only runs one process at a time b) safari is basically the best mobile browser out c) apple has complete control over it, they make the product, the os, and control the software.

What are you talking about?
All 3 android phones currently available (Dream, Magic and Hero) all use the same processor...The Rogers (32A) Magic and Hero both have 288mb of RAM compared to the Dream and 32B Magic's 192mb. AFAIK the 3G S has 256mb of RAM and a ~600mhz processor.

Yeah Im convinced they got it off the truck or something.
Im not liking any concepts or iterations of Android devices either.
I would love the g1 "style" to stay put. KB/Style of slideout/Trackball comb is best Ive ever had on a phone.
Bigger screen/vga/faster processor etc is what needs changing on future android/G# devices.
Hemi is short for hemispherical (sp?) Referring to the design of the combustion chambers. Hemi DOES NOT mean half or not whole. A simple google search would of prevented you from talking without knowing. Thanks for playing.

Engadget compared all the devices. The Hero phones processor is a bit different. The end numbers on msm7201a is different. Engadget may have made a mistake not sure. I came across this earlier in a thread here on XDA.
Edit: ok I checked HTC Web site and the Hero processor is MSM7200A

Well done, you have shown your ignorance, hemi is a Greek derived prefix for half, also usable meaning partial. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Hemi-
If you actually needed to google "hemi" and didn't realise that hemisphere was a compound word then I feel for you and everyone else that attended your school.
Of course I knew what the OP was referring to, but was taking the piss.

mt3g / behold II

on my g1, i did a lot of rom flashing because i'm always into the latest and greatest android developments. i can't really find any offical specs for the behold II's processor, ram and rom, so i'm wondering if anyone knows the specs versus the mt3g, basically i am wondering which phone, or if both, will be suitable for flashing newer/different versions of android on. I really like htc sense, which is what i was running on my g1

i couldnt find the behold specs on tmobile's website so i went to their store. the idiots there told me it has 200mb ram but they didnt know the processor.
So, going on just the ram, the behold is like the mytouch in that it doesnt have enough ram to run anything special. youll basically be able to run what you run on the g1, meaning sense is going to be real laggy. but i have not been flashing for the last few months so i dont really know whats out there.
Ultimately, TMO's flagship phone (the MyTouch) literally has worse specs than even the lowest end phones on Sprint and verizon, (and now att as well if the xperia theory proves true). that doesnt have much to do with what youre asking but it just drives me crazy that i jumped on board tmo, paying hundreds of dollars to buy out my sprint contract to have the g1, and then an entire year goes by and when tmo finally releases another android it literally has 0 improved specs over the g1 (other than more rom which is barely worth mentioning).
this either means tmo doesnt understand android's potential, which would put their overall comprehension level at equal to or less than that of a retarded infant, OR tmo is cooking up some fantastic android to blow away all consumers and establish themselves as legitimate competitors in the android world. So if i were you id hold out for the latter, although i certainly wouldnt put the former past them...

To the best of my knowledge, the 2nd option is the correct one. TMO definitely knows it is lagging behind at the moment, and I'm sure it has plans to launch new devices. I don't know what device or timelines, but I was told the waiting will be worth it.

Waiting for the Sprint Nexus One? Might want to look at the Evo...

http://gizmodo.com/5535436/sprint-wont-sell-the-nexus-one
"When Sprint's Michelle Leff Mermelstein told us that the company wouldn't be selling the Nexus One because of the "upcoming availability of the award-winning Evo 4G," it didn't change much for your average user. The Evo, like the Incredible, looks at least as enticing as the Nexus One, and even shares a lot of the same hardware. Where it diverges, Sprint says it's a "more robust, full-featured device," which, well, it is."
Sprint, like Verizon did earlier this year, has decided to not sell the Nexus One. I could never see a reason to choose this over the awesomeness that will be the Evo (even with the wonky Android upgrade schedule), but I know some people were still waiting for it. Sort of makes sense though, they were only going to run the risk of cannibalizing each other. If I was Sprint, I'd want the Evo to get all the attention too.
(Just a note: I know this is the CDMA Hero community, not the Nexus One forum or anything, but this is the group I connect with and with our investment in Sprint, I thought it was worthy of our forum. I don't go anywhere else on XDA.)
Sorry Fixxer2008
Just because the Evo is on the same network doesn't mean that I, and I suspect many others, wouldn't still consider and possibly choose the N1. While the Evo does seem like it will be the phone on Sprint to have, it also may not fit everyone's tastes. Not to mention that if Google has the ability to upgrade the N1 immediately to the next available Android OS instead of us having to wait for HTC and Sprint to figure it out, well that right there would probably push many folks to buy it before the Evo. I think Sprint is dropping the ball here because more options are always better than less.
i think i just heard fixxers head explode
It does really sadden me that Sprint has chose to do this. I really wanted a Nexus One over an EVO 4G.
A few reason as to why:
Established Community
Vanilla Android is SO much quicker & has a better battery life opposed to Sense.
I like choices.
I don't 4G coverage & probably won't 4G coverage in my area for a long time.
This is Verizon and Sprint's big mistakes. They don't want to give up control over the devices, and Google doesn't want to give them control over this device.
Google is attempting to shake up the hardware sales revenue stream that the carriers have and they are trying to stomp it out.
Unfortunately, it is us, the customers who get hurt by it.
Pretty sad, because I thought Sprint really was turning things around, but it appears they are still the same ol' Sprint.
Confirmed the information here:

i have a good offer on the moment right now but there is hardly any development for it so im not sure. i do have a feeling once the EVO comes out that will be sprints flagship android device of the year and the hero will be left behind. ill have to look up the galaxy, thanks.
I can see why people are mad and want a google phone that gets updated directly from google.
Alot of people think the evo is too big. The nexus has nice size and looks pretty sleek.
But the Evo does have much better specs, and does still get 3G.
Plus you can turn sense off, and if you root (when these guys figure out how)
You can remove the HTC lockscreen, and make and revert all the HTC apps back to stock, and the device will run faster.
But the nesux one on sprint for $99 would be a hell of a deal and would pull alot of customers who want a cool smartphone but don't need everything the EVO does.
Plus sprint better not go out of stock the first day, I want an evo
Well this is disappointing news

the evo will take awhile to root and most devs here prefer sense. "some" of us here realize that sense is buggy, takes up too much ram and is all about eye candy.

I kinda agree with the second post. The evo is a great phone, although I think the video shows basic android users that the hero and the evo have pretty much the same thing. NOW WHILE MOST PEOPLE HERE KNOW THATS DIFFERENT, the idea is that both phones run the stunning htc sense, have the most of the same built in apks, and on the video the hero doesn't move that much slower than the evo.
Advantage to the evo for basic users:
-4G
-better camera
-moves faster and snappier
-images look better because of a higher resolution
-swype keyboard: although anyone will be able to get this eventually
-FRONT FACING CAMERA
-BIG OL BAD SCREEN
-more storage space for apps
Disadvantages:
-4G not really existant for users outside of big cities-and most of the big cities wont get 4G till later this year.
-CAMERA has more megapixels but takes not so great pics according to reviews
-new phone= bugs, some still being worked on
-swype can be brought to any phone, and probably will soon
-some people think the screen is TOO BIG.
so for me the basic advantages are matched by the disadvantages. So I'm fine sticking with my hero. The evo is better, yes. the front camera-cool. But i don't like the size and I don't get 4G, so I'm better off waiting off a while, as hard as that can be for people who love shiny new phones with awesome specs.
i'm good with my hero for now

No, but if I wanted to serve cheese off that platter, I could! Hoers d'oeuvres, anyone?
I went by Radio Shack the other day and I didn't like the way it fit in my hand. But then again I felt the same way with my Hero because I had come from a phone that was probably 2" wide or something. After seeing the video I wouldn't mind getting one, but I'm sure they will release a better one hopefully with Android 3.0 and a dual core processor, so I will wait until then and see where I am financially. Also paying $10 extra for 4G is crazy. They should give us the option of upgrading to 4G if we live in a city were it is offered.
I don't disagree with you on any particular point. The $10 increase is BS unless they tell me they're getting 4G in my area and that fee is to cover installation. And there's always going to be a better phone. It's a fact.
...and I'll probably get that one too. >.>
LOL at you, yea you. I do that comparison everyday w my wifes hero, and the performance difference its so big its not even funny, and hers is OC. No comparison. And you would love the screen size if you ever typed in an Evo, specially coming from a Hero.

Hard to disagree with any of your points. A tricked out Honda S2000 is pretty badass though
Also, seeing as I live outside of a 4G zone, giving Sprint $120/yr more for the privilege of owning an Evo just doesn't sit right. Enjoy your new toy though, it is a work of art.

Just wondering besides the screen and gingerbread what makes this phone better than the mytouch. Just curious as to why so many people want this phone when the mytouch is better in almost evey way. MT4g keys collected so much dust in just few days of using, I think soft keys are more durable when you take this into account.
As others said, it comes down to vanilla Android - my nexus one was one of my favorite phones because it was pure android. When I got the evo and vibrant I kinda twitched when I wasn't on vanilla android (it really is a very different experience).
Not to mention, the vibrant still being on 2.1 is a JOKE (altho I've flashed froyo) - so with the nexus S, having the latest updates and essentially being Google's "test device" is excellent.
Because the MyTouch 4g has a worse processor, a worse GPU, a worse display, a worse touch screen, and well, is ugly. Oh and the Nexus S is AOSP.
Note: "ugly" = personal preference no offense intended
It's rather difficult for me to say.
I have MT4 and the screen is good, plus wifi calling is very handy when I need it.
But NS should have larger and better screen.

I've seen a lot of posts anderdroid. You seem to be some sort of arrogant samsung fanboy. All I hear from you is samsung is the best and all other devices are crap...
Do you happen to work for samsung by any chance?
No offence intended.

Chill out guys... It's phones, phones, phones, phones. No need to get all heated.
Echoing what others have said, but its true. A lot comes down to getting timely updates direct from Google.
I had a Hero before my Nexus One and although the phone was solid, the lack of updates made it a very disappointing experience. Won't do ' non-vanilla' again until manufacturers/carriers prove they will update their phones.
I have a MT4G and a Vibrant and hopefully will pick up a Nexus S tomorrow morning. The MT4g is a very nice solid phone. Having said that I must say I do prefer the Vibrant. I really cannot put my finger on why I like the Vibrant so much better.. I fooled around with the MT4G and let the remorse period end and now I have the phone. I am going to sell the MT4G. Once again though it is a very very good phone. One of the best all around phones I have ever had. Just cannot forge a connection with it.
myTouch 4G is THE phone!! if u have 4G in ur area. Brilliant specs. But I agree its ugliest looking phone ever. But as long u cover it its fine and excellent phone. I wouldnt go for Nexus S if I already had myTouch 4G. Dual Cores are round the corner. But I m fine with the specs of the Nexus S. No 4g here anyways.
PS: Nexus S is gonna be my first native android phone. Woohoo
But I have toyed around most of the android phones of either friends and family

dude, I had the same exact experience.
Ok, still tossing between the two devices. Biggest reason is the $300 price difference. Both have nice features.
Nexus S:
Love that it will get updates in a timely manner
slimmer, sexier
better screen
No 3g so with this and better screen hopefully better battery life
Larger screen
MT4G:
4G
More hardware buttons
Micro SD card slot, (options)
T-Mobile insurance to cover any time of damage
I've only used the Nexus S for a day so I'm still going to compare and see if its worth paying more for it. Any other key reasons I'm missing? Just trying to get as much information/feedback before making a decision.
If you want the best and latest, nexus S is the one...but to me also It doesn't give out anything significant over MT4G..Yes faster updates is definitely one plus of Nexus...but if you're on XDA, you most probably be into custom ROMs, and mostly within a week new updates come to popular phones..so that's not such a big thing...same goes for pure google exp...if you don't want custom UI...there are ROMs available to do that..
On the other hand MT4G gives you 4G, WiFi calling and looks are subjective..to me MT4G don't look bad though not as sexy as nexus S though...but as above poster said its $300 more...its not definately worth that IMO

How did you come up with this number? Compare the unlocked prices,
MT4G (contract free and locked) is 449 , NS unlocked and contract free is 529.

Arrogant Samsung fanboy? Everything I said in my reply was true the only thing the MyTouch 4g has on this is removeable storage and HSPA+. Which are 'necessities' at best. If you absolutely need removeable storage or more than 16gb than the Nexus S isn't for you. Other than that, I get the feeling that HTC fanboys down talk Samsung wrongly and uneducatedly so I like to shove it in their faces .
I guess I am an arrogant Samsung fanboy. Or at least, Galaxy S> fanboy. Anything prior to Galaxy S I won't say anything about. The Galaxy S line is 2nd best only to the Nexus S
