This is here for a comparision of the HTC Evo and HTC Hero. This is not my video, but found it on youtube and put it here for everyone to see it.
Hahaha... that was ridiculous. Man am I glad I kept my Hero now.

How was that ridiculous? He showed exactly what people want when they buy the Evo: larger screen, faster proc, etc. I don't see your point. I mean, I'm glad you're happy with your Hero. It's a great phone. I personally love mine. I'm getting an Evo, though, and will be giving my Hero to my girlfriend. It's much better than her Palm Pre... just as the Evo is much better than the Hero.
Unless, of course, I'm not understanding you. Help me out here.

I don't like the EVO because is to BIG...
And it will become BIGGER with a Cover...

It's too big? Do you have dwarf hands? Little sausage fingers? Or does it not fit in the pocket of your Garanimals? Seriously, though... I have small hands and it's not too big for me to use. That screen is gorgeous.

i would go that far the hero was already outdated and old technology the day it launched lol. its a cool phone for time being but definitely in the same catagory with mytouch and g1. check out the specs, sprint just needed an android phone cause they didnt have any. i mean cmon dude the moment has a faster processor lol it will do for now but i wouldnt go as far to say i "love it" its ok and it was the best thing on sprint at the time. that is all

keeping hero not ridiculous
I kinda agree with the second post. The evo is a great phone, although I think the video shows basic android users that the hero and the evo have pretty much the same thing. NOW WHILE MOST PEOPLE HERE KNOW THATS DIFFERENT, the idea is that both phones run the stunning htc sense, have the most of the same built in apks, and on the video the hero doesn't move that much slower than the evo.
Advantage to the evo for basic users:
-4G
-better camera
-moves faster and snappier
-images look better because of a higher resolution
-swype keyboard: although anyone will be able to get this eventually
-FRONT FACING CAMERA
-BIG OL BAD SCREEN
-more storage space for apps
Disadvantages:
-4G not really existant for users outside of big cities-and most of the big cities wont get 4G till later this year.
-CAMERA has more megapixels but takes not so great pics according to reviews
-new phone= bugs, some still being worked on
-swype can be brought to any phone, and probably will soon
-some people think the screen is TOO BIG.
so for me the basic advantages are matched by the disadvantages. So I'm fine sticking with my hero. The evo is better, yes. the front camera-cool. But i don't like the size and I don't get 4G, so I'm better off waiting off a while, as hard as that can be for people who love shiny new phones with awesome specs.
i'm good with my hero for now

No, but if I wanted to serve cheese off that platter, I could! Hoers d'oeuvres, anyone?
I went by Radio Shack the other day and I didn't like the way it fit in my hand. But then again I felt the same way with my Hero because I had come from a phone that was probably 2" wide or something. After seeing the video I wouldn't mind getting one, but I'm sure they will release a better one hopefully with Android 3.0 and a dual core processor, so I will wait until then and see where I am financially. Also paying $10 extra for 4G is crazy. They should give us the option of upgrading to 4G if we live in a city were it is offered.
I don't disagree with you on any particular point. The $10 increase is BS unless they tell me they're getting 4G in my area and that fee is to cover installation. And there's always going to be a better phone. It's a fact.
...and I'll probably get that one too. >.>
LOL at you, yea you. I do that comparison everyday w my wifes hero, and the performance difference its so big its not even funny, and hers is OC. No comparison. And you would love the screen size if you ever typed in an Evo, specially coming from a Hero.

I'd like to see a video of the Evo vs. the Hero running Darch 2.7 (and eventually Froyo). No version of Sense on the Hero is as fast as Darch's AOSP. Yes, the Evo would still win but the Hero would certainly hold it own.

doesnt matter, the hero is like a tricked out honda, no matter what parts or software you program it with its stll gonna be a honda. The evo is more like a benz, it comes factory with everything you need and imagine and will be even better with aftermarket parts, i dont know why u guys think it even stand a chance, once aosp is on the evo its over for any phone with android you throw at it. the hero was dead the day it launched with its weak ass processor and unimpressive hardware specs. the chip it has in it is the same one used in the weak g1 and weak mytouch. in one month i will have my evo and im more than happy to sell this hero piece of **** on here of ebay for 40 bucks lol. its in perfect condition as i have never taken off my full body zagg invisishield. death to hero until we all get evos

Hard to disagree with any of your points. A tricked out Honda S2000 is pretty badass though
Also, seeing as I live outside of a 4G zone, giving Sprint $120/yr more for the privilege of owning an Evo just doesn't sit right. Enjoy your new toy though, it is a work of art.

Google Exec Hints at Why Nexus One Was Leapfrogged by HTC Incredible, Evo 4G
http://googlewatch.eweek.com/content/android_vs_iphone/google_exec_hints_at_why_nexus_one_was_leapfrogged_by_htc_incredible_evo_4g.html
"Nexus One isn't a failure so much as a casualty of the success of the next wave of Android smartphones. In a few months, I'm sure we'll be saying the same things about the Incredible and the Evo 4G."
Some people may be bothered with this, but I am happy with my Nexus One. I have no buyers remorse.
I don't view my N1 as obsolete in any way at all and am quite happy with it, it's no worse than the Incredible and all aspects of the device ooze performance
phones are starting to become like computers now. as soon as you buy one a new and better one comes out tomorrow.
and what sucks about is...you're suck with a 2 year contract.
So adding two features equals "leapfrogged" now?
What a load of crap. Who has FroYo now? Yeah, that's what I thought.
I always f*cking hate these posts. I really don't want to hear doom and gloom.
Definitely don't feel any remorse.
My phone is JUST as good as the ones that are coming out NOW.
Yea, 8MP cam + dual flash, but cmon, the pictures are hardly better.
Plus the nexus LOOKS better than both of those.

SERIOUSLY, people are rediculous....... I stayed with DDR400 until DDR32000 came out because it was a serious step up...... There is nothing that screams "OH MY GOD INNOVATION" about either phone..... My next phone will be when my Nexus no longer has the NAND capacity for the current Android version. I love my Nexus
i'm with mortzz on this one. we have a phone that we can do whatever we want to do to it. i'd MUCH rather have this. i'm on the fence about the evo, but until we can get real system access (yeah, i saw the root article, but i'll believe it when i see it), custom ROM's, etc, i'll stick with the N1. which, btw, is STILL the sexiest phone i've ever seen. girl i'm seeing has the incredible, and...no thanks. not in comparison. it's a nice phone, if you have to have verizon. but, i don't
i do however have to get a sprint device. so...i may have to break contract with tmo and get the evo. otherwise, my school is going to stick me with the freaking touch pro 2 as my pager. lord what a step back that will be. but, at least if i take that, i can keep my N1
Uh. What?
Incredible and Evo won't get FroYo until the end of this year.
How about we come back to this article then so we can point and laugh?
Having root >>>> anything else.
Have any high-end phones since the Nexus achieved full root? I mean cracked bootloader and all. Desire, Legend, new Droids - none have the kind of access we do. Heck, we may have the best fully root-able hardware HTC will ever release.
I dont think the Incredible is any better than the N1, i've played witht he incredible and it feels cheap plastic like and the camera sucks as well. I like the feel of the N1 and like the looks of it. The Evo is a whole different story...

They have "root" meaning they have su permissions. AFAIK they don't have write permissions to the partitions, so it's pretty worthless.
Only thing i regret about my Nexus One is that apparently the Desire and Incredible both have touchscreens that fixed the multitouch issues.
Other than that the idea of having basically a google developement phone surpasses any of the other current phones, maybe when we see a decent hardware upgrade, then it will be a different story, but hopefully Google continues to make new Nexus phones.

That is sad. So they have the same MT issue as us, a much smaller dev front, usb-bricking issues while flashing roms, no full solution for being rooted/unlocked...took htc ages to release the kernel...they won't see froyo for ages (officially).
Not much to be ... wait for it... desired

How many points does a Galaxy register again? I'm guessing more than 2
In the UK, the N1/Desire is still the King. Desire = UK incredible, but is LITERALLY an N1, and I doubt we will ever see the Evo here [not even a whisp of 4g network].
Even if they did, all the incredible has is the less buggy touch matrix, although this has been nicely 'fixed' in froyo. The evo is a different breed of phone, id never buy it purely based on the fact that i like thinks to fit in my pocket xD
Until I see a snapgradon 1.3+, 1GB RAM, a TRUE 8mp+ cam, froyo, new gen OLED/better, my N1 can sleep with my girl any day.
that makes two of us i love man I LOVE MY NEXUS ONE

haha my friend was a tad jealous of me. he has the Hero and i like his sense ui. but the minute froyo came out, i installed it. i showed him how i can play hulu, i showed him that i got live wallpapers (of course he doesn't have 2.1) and the rest of the froyo goodness. and outta jealousy, he was like "oh well im gonna get a phone thats better than that. im give to get the Evo 4G that has everything the nexus one has and more, including Android 2.2" and i was like "riiiiight. just like the hero was supposed to (officially) get 2.1 right?" and he stood quiet lol idk about all of you guys but i don't really care for 2 led lights. im good with just one. as for 4G, i like to have the freedom to switch between my N1, my BB Curve 8310, and my iPhone 3GS with the simple swap of a SIM card so im great with my Sexy Nexy
Has anyone else noticed the Evo is way too big to be a phone? I'm glade i'm waiting for the next 4g phone. Who really wants to watch a movie on their phone? I just hope the Devs stay with the Hero!

I agree. I handled the a dummy Evo yesterday at a Radio Shack, and it is half way to being a tablet. It would be nice to browse the web with that screen, but I already carry a ultralight laptop for that. I want the speed and processing power of the Evo, but in a form factor no bigger than my current hero.
I think a Sprint Nexus One would be the best compromise
the evo is a tad too big. any bigger and it'll be a droidpad. im staying with the hero for awhile. the only thing i like about the evo more than the hero is
1. 720p screen res
2. 8mp camera (5 is still awsome)
3. 1ghz snapdragon
4. 4g(which isnt all that great at the moment.
the hero is still a kickass phone
Yeah, that thing is like a brick in your pocket.
I just read the specs for the Hero 2 and it does not have the snapdragon or a faster processor. Sounds kinda lame, now I wish we were getting the N1.
What's wrong with Hero 1?
The problem is, it's not the latest and greatest anymore. Everyone, save a few, always want what's new and hot at the moment. As soon as the next phone comes out, all these people will be saying how much the EVO sucks in comparison.

Link? I can only find rumor posts from February.
After browsing the Evo forums and hearing of all the disappointing realizations that clears 4g is not all it's hyped up to be and real world speeds are hardly impressive more often than not i cant help but chuckle. Not to mention as the OP said that thing is like a 1/8 scale ipad! plus im not going to fork over $450 for the first 4g device that will inevitably have it's fair share of bugs more than it already has. And for such a big screen u would thing HTC would have at least implemented 256k colors at the minimum. I know AMOLEDs are a bit more expensive. Why the 65k cap? I bought the hero back in October when it first came out so my Premier upgrade isn't due til this October. Id rather wait until 4g gets developed further and coverage increases dramatically. Plus i've got my hero rooted, overclocked, customized and running like a dream. I can live without the extra 232 mhZ (im running 768mhZ) til something a bit more solid comes to the market. My hero and i have been thru a lot and it can still do just about everything the Evo can do just at slightly less speed and fashion but i'm perfectly content with that. But inevitably this forum will fade into the background as most forums do when a new device is released cuz everyone feels like they have to be part of the new phone bandwagon every time something better comes out. Just like cp0200 said the hero is a badass phone if u customize it just right. Hopefully a few devs will stick around
I picked my EVO up at 8:00 AM yesterday, and returned it around noon today. One of my reasons for returning it was the disappointing performance of 4G here in Kansas City. I get better, more consistent speeds with 3G. Another reason was the size of the thing. I agree with you all, it is too big. I think if they had gone with a 3.7 inch screen, it would have been the perfect size. Every time I handled it, I was afraid that I was going to drop it. These two things had me wanting my Hero back.
To be perfectly honest, I'm completely disappointed with the EVO. I don't have one, but I've played with my friends, and my Hero just feels so much more stable. It might be that I'm running Darchdroid, or it might be that I just like the phone more.
The EVO is wayyy too big. I want my phone to fit in my pocket comfortably.
The software is the same HTC Sense crap. Why can't Sprint get a good vanilla Android phone? I was so excited when I heard the Nexus One was coming to Sprint and soooo disappointed when I heard it was cancelled for the EVO. And now that the EVO is out, I'm even more upset. The Nexus One is the perfect size and is plenty fast for my taste.
I found out I earned my upgrade last month, but there is no way I'm going to use it on the EVO. The extra $10 a month, crappy 4G I've been hearing about, and just the general unappealing aesthetics of the phone are more than enough to make me never want one for myself. I love my Hero, and I'll love it until I can get a decent vanilla Android phone on Sprint. Or I'll terminate early and go to T-Mobile... I've already been offered to have my ETF covered by them.

If TMo's service wasn't so crappy where I live I would've stayed with them but obviously reliable service is more important than which carrier has the coolest phones
I dont think the EVO is too big, I think my Hero is too small when I can upgrade I will, I want a bigger touch screen, makes it easier to type IMO
assuming something better doesn't come out by october, that Evo will be hanging out in my back pocket (when it's not busy being worked hard in my hands), much the same way my Hero sits in my back pocket most of the time
That's what she said.

I agree with most of the comments here.
I checked one out here in Manhattan, and the 4G speeds were not too great.
It just feels way too big.
And someone commented before, it's the same 2.1 Sense ****. Feels laggy.
I am staying with Hero until the end of the year, then looking at my options.
The EVO is not too big. Your hands are too small
It is like a micro tablet computer, which is what I LOVE about it!!!
The thing is freakin awesome.
If you guys thing the EVO is too big, have you seen the Dell Streak specs?? It has a full 5 inch screen! And I want one of those too LOL
Well im not happy..but wife moved us to verizon ( work ) hate to leave sprint.. and my hero.. but no choice in the matter atm.. Wife rules...lol
Will stick around though.. The hero section is what made me stick around.. you guys rule.. Plus still have 2 hero's laying around to tinker with.. Or sale etc.lol
Anyway.. guess its on to the darkside ( verizon ) wish me luck.lol At least its not att and iphone's right!!
we will be moving to them as well this winter. what kind of phones did you get? i think you can put your hero on verizon as well so you know.

Wow, nice, I'd love to have an Incredible, and I agree, I only like HTC Android phones
HTC is by far the best because of their overall build quality and support. Samsung and Motorola are both mixed in terms of which devices they support, and the pace at which they release updates. Some devices like the Behold II and almost all lower end Motorola phones get the shaft and hardly get any updates. Half of them are still at 1.5 or 1.6... but only the high end ones like Droid, Droid X, and Droid 2 (basically all Verizon ones) get satisfactory updates. I think Samsung is similar. HTC is much more consistent.
I don't think you'll miss the Hero at all, except for maybe the hardware buttons instead of capacitive buttons. But I tried out my friend's Incredible, and man was it smooth.. and it was the stock ROM

Lol everyone has favorites. but myself really don't have too much time to invest in finding the perfect phone. Im sure the moto is nice. same for the epic's etc.. Hell even the iphone is nice to a degree.. The hero is just a phone.. but with it came this nice section on xda which to me made having and using it a joy.lol I always visit diff sections looking for themes and such.. But the hero section seems to have matured unlike other sections..

enjoy your new phone. hopefully when i move to verizon there will be a new webos device or a high end android phone.
I think the INC is pretty highend.. screen size aside... lol I mean its not a monster like the evo etc.. but spec wise should be alot better than the hero ive been running all year..
I mean outside of the few games.. wth would I need a dual core chip and a giant screens etc. for right now anyway? To open my email faster and see more of it,lol
Just joking of course.. but really the INC should keep me happy for awhile.. til i get bored...etc..
This is not a bash thread. I owned the epic for roughly 4 months. It is a very good phone. Reason I dropped it was due to it felt cheap. The phone was pretty loose concerning the slider. Also I never used the keyboard. The amoled screen is nice but I needed a bigger screen. So I switched to the evo. And from what I can tell during normal everyday use is that its just as fast. I don't game and I know the epic is better for gaming. I still think the epic is a damn good phone. Just sharing my experience. Also even with gps turned on so far the battery life on the evo is a little bit better. It does not get hot during web browsing like the epic did.
Im still here though. Been here since the epic launched and still glad to try to help other if they need it.

My only complaint with Samsung is the software. They make awesome hardware, though. I think they do it on purpose because if they matched a software engineer to eke out everything from the hardware, you wouldn't really care about buying a new phone so much.
Even though Samsung sucks at supporting their Products, it'll be hard to go to any inferior screen.

Not sure how you can get better battery life on a stock EVO. The hardware in the Epic is simply more power efficient than the EVO, it's a fact.

Love the epic...agree the slider mech sux....
Ive never seen a problem with the sliding mech. Matter a fact I also have a moment and the intercept and those mechs are fine as well. I don't see how they're bad.
Anyway At this point jumping to the Evo isn't a bad idea at all if you want to. All of this "Epic is just a better machine" means squat when it's not even updated with an official Froyo yet. It's like having the most advanced yatch in a desert.
I for one love my epic but the second something esle comes along. I think i'll be leaving myself. Unless the device that comes along is also made by samsung. Then no thanks.

Well stock 2.2 battery life so far is great. Stock for stock there pretty close honestly. The epics display eats a ton of battery.
Also another thing I am noticing. On the epic I used roam control due to no sprint signal at work. If I left it on automatic the epic would lose signal, the radio would then reset itself 2 times before it would go to roam. So I used roam control to just roam only. On the evo it seemlessly switches between home and roam without completely losing the radio.

No it doesn't. Its actually much more efficient than the Evo's.

Agreed. The Tegra 2 LG Optimus looks pretty appealing, if it gets the advertised battery life. Wonder if it'll come out for Sprint.
That said, I do play some Super Mario now & then on the Epic. The keyboard + Game Gripper is nice for that. I can't do the screen controls, too slow.
I love the Epic to death, but Samsung support sucks.
To the person mentioning switching ... HTC shift.
I know a few buddies who went from the epic to the Evo. Both good devices. Sprint kind of limited.

Evos a great phone. I had both the epic and the evo, switched back and forth for awhile before deciding in the Epic. The epic IMO is quicker, but the development on the Evo may have changed that by now, idk. I will say that my evo always had better battery life than my epic. Same apps and same usage, both with the Evo on 2.1 and 2.2. Battery isnt a big deal to me personally tho since I always keep a spare battery. Enjoy your Evo. I personally miss the development compared to the epic, but im hopeful that that will changer soon. If you end up not liking it, sell it. I sold mine for twice what I paid. My wife just sold her second evo for $550 cash off craigslist.

I've had a person on Craigslist practically begging me to switch his 1 month old Evo, for my epic. I have been really torn between what to do. I really like this phone, and it is only gonna get better when 2.2 offically releases and the source code drops. I think I would regret it if I traded and it turned out the epic is being pushed beyond what any other phone has done before performance wise with the release of the source. T-mobile just got their release for 2.2 today, so hopefully we are not far behind (ya I know, we are on CDMA).
Whoa.... Vibrant got an official update? I didn't see anything on those forums...

I haven't seen anything about the Vibrant getting official Froyo today...Do you have a link
The epic is my first samsung. I always have HTC from the ppc 6700 to the evo. I switched from the evo. Even tho I do agree the epic feel's cheap, but it does have better hardware than the evo.
Deal breaker for me was the camera, I was Surprised how crappy the evo was to take pic's, but at least the epic sux's less, it's actually pretty good.
Development is slower, but it's still gets plenty of love. I for one don't plan on flashing every other day.

If its the release that I think your speaking of. It was for T-Mobile (UK) not T-Mobile (USA). I thought the same thing once I read about it, but read more and its for the UK.
I have both the Epic and the EVO. I love both phones, but I like the EVO a bit better. I'm sure my reasoning is totally different from others (as expected). I would love to compare the two with 2.2, but for obvious reason I cannot. I'm VERY tempted on rooting my Epic finally. Battery life (for me, as I cant speak for others) have been great on both. But again, everyone has their different uses on their phones.
Well imop, I wouldn't of down graded... When they come out with a better phone damn near every 6 months. I would've stuck with the Epic till something better came out ( like the dual processor ) thats coming... But if you got-it like that just to buy 500 dollar phones because it feel cheesy ( And I agree ) then you made the right decison...

But in reality 500 bucks for a phone like Epic isn't bad at all. Us American just got used to super subsidized phones...

In my opinion, I think the Epic is a great phone, the only complaint I would make is the battery life. Then again I use my phone constantly and run many tasks at the same time, but I'm sure emulators don't help either lol. As for the slider, that made all the difference when debating on buying an epic or evo. Even if it is a little loose the qwerty is almost perfectly spaced and is probably the best one i have used on any phone (and I have gone through a lot). As for the software we all knew that Samsung sucked at providing it, but thanks to hard working people there are plenty of ways to get the newest android versions through ROMs which don't take too much work to use.
Personally I don't plan on changing my epic until it can no longer support newer android versions, but that's just me
Here is the link, 1 of out of 2 I saw today for T mobile customers getting Froyo for their Galaxy S phones.
http://www.onlinesocialmedia.net/20101201/froyo-comes-to-t-mobiles-samsung-galaxy-s-users/
With those phones being released for the other three, I cannot wait to see the new HTC phone for Sprint.
I have high hopes but low expectations.
I just hope they keep sprint at the forefront

Same here bud. The evo was in a class of its own when it was released but now its falling behind with all these beast phones that were recently announced. I'm hoping HTC is real tight with sprint and is saving the best for them. I'm looking forward to a dual core 1080p cam evo 2 with gingerbread or honeycomb

Hopefully not 15-22 fps camera if its supposedly going group have 1080p
I'm hoping for the 3d HTC to drop as well. I'm hoping it blows that Optimus 3d out of the water. Dual core. Hopefully a much better screen and processors.
Well they better release a pyramid equivalent otherwise its a re badged EVO 4G. They need to improve the screen resolution to the qHD resolution at the very least. And they need to make it out of a alum. body and a little thinner and lighter

I agree...I want at least the innards of the Pyramid (if not better), plus an aluminum body. I think the Evo looks great but it's a little lacking in terms of build quality. With all the money HTC raked in last year I think they can afford to up the quality of the materials they use.

Oh same here...I was referring more to the materials used rather than how it's put together. I also have no light leakage or any other defects. I just wish it had more of a metal body like the desire instead of plastic.

YES!!!!!!!! Of the five HTC devices I've used all of them have been badass for their time, and they seem to always the easiest devices to root.
The pyramid gives me a lot of hope though. HTC seems to be really good at putting out a ton of handsets with almost the same hardware, but making each of them special and cool in their own right. If were luck it might even have a freakin laser beam built in by the time we get it!

I dunno man. I used the HTC Touch Pro and that build quality was ****.
i remember reading about the evo last year being like "4g! this sounds cool!" and going to the sprint store to check out the evo. Since then I've had the evo.
When Sprint announced the Epic 4g, i got kind of excited again until i saw and handled it and realized how crummy and cheap it felt... the cheap plastice feel and look.
....is this what we are to expect from Sprint this year, or will our minds be blown by an even more awesomer EVO 2 4g^2.
Sprint please surprise with something awesome that looks, feels AND performs awesomely!
Im excited about the pyramid, it looks like a beast. I hope this comes to Sprint soon.

i think sprints next flagship device will be a webos smartphone to be announced next week.
