I'm very disappointed about HTC Germany.
Over sudden, my touch screen no longer responded. Device is still under warranty, but HTC refused to repair it w/o charge. They want Euro 178.00 which is unacceptable. I have paid Euro 600.00 for this great device and cannot afford to pay extra 178.
They diagnosed a "Newton Ring" (shadow on the screen).
I have sent them a complaint, but they insist on not repairing it under warranty.
Does anybody have experienced such behavior of HTC before or had a similar problem (Newton Ring) and got it solved under warranty?

I finaly gave up and paid. Better than having a piece of junk.
I immediately flashed it with Dutty 6.5 Muchos and I'm now very happy with the performance:
No more freezes, Battery lasts much longer now.
After I have protested, they stated that they will re-consider and provide me with an answer the next few days. One week later I received a letter explaining that this damage was caused by too much pressure on the screen.
I was always carrying it in by back pocket. I sure will change my behavior now.
But like I mentioned before, I'm very impressed by the new ROM - much better than the original shipped ROM.
what is the newton ring. I have a small water type mark that comes up now and again if the weather is really hot.

Its very technical, however in my case it was a damage below the top layer of the screen. I could not use the touch screen at all. There might be some minor damages of that nature that still give you a chance to get a feed back from your device. - I couldn't. It was a total damage. They had to remove the top layer and re-install a new one.
got the same problem, wont get covered under warranty, and my HD is only couple months old. Any one know how to take front digitizer off?
Since yesterday evening i've got for the 2nd time newton rings on my phone ffs!
The first time the've placed it under warranty, now i'm going to try to get a new phone. I'm sick of it.

I've had this issue too. I've let the repair center (Arvato Services in Germany) send the unrepaired device back to me and repaired it myself after getting the digitizer on eBay. Unfortunately the display broke when I tried to remove it from the front cover (to attach the new digitizer), so I had to get another display on eBay too.

Now the're still repairing under warranty... read my posts....
I've had contact with HTC customer support today, the're going to pickup my blackstone tomorrow and repair it. As long at is isn't heavily scratched (it isn't) it's going to be repaired under warranty
I had it with my first blackstone, and HTC said it wasn't covered by warranty claiming I had used too much pressure on the screen, offering to charge me an extautionate amount to repair it.
I looked online an it appears to be common amongst HTC phones, possibly due to it over heating by being used when charging (ie using Tom Tom in the car) causing the screen to warp.
Some people have had it replaced under warranty in other countries, but HTC in the UK were adamant that it was my fault.
I've used PDAs for the past 7 years, so I know how to be careful with them. I never put things in my back pocket anyway, only in my front pocket, display against my leg, taking it out if I sit down and never putting anything else in the same pocket. I never dropped it, used my fingers rather than the stylus (as I've had the stylus scratch the screens on my previous PDAs after years of use) so nothing hard against the screen.
The only thing I have done is use Tom Tom in the car while charging in the blackstone specific cradle, which makes the phone get rather warm.
The Newton ring only showed up under fluorescent light.
HTC service desk were less than useful, they didn't bother to contact me to say they wanted to charge me, and their use of english on the phone was very poor.
I'd got the phone through the Carphone Warehouse, so took it back to them to see if they'd repair it under warranty. The phone was also having radio problems, I could be 300 yards line of sight from a network mast and not be able to make a call even though several bars were showing. It would flip between gprs and edge, HDSPA would normally be fine, but in places where other phones had full bars, mine would often have none.
They sent it to HTC who returned it saying "No fault found"
Absolutely useless.
Thankfully I had insurance so claimed on that (£30 being a heck of a lot more reasonable than £176) and got a new phone the next day.
If I hadn't had insurance, I'd have taken HTC to trading standards.
Great product, terrible company.
Yesterday i've got my blackstone back from repaire service. It's repaired under warranty, and i've got a new screen for de second time.
I've order a case to put my blackstone in to protect it... let's hope that will keep the newtonrings away!
Very easy, in Europe due to a directive which has been transposed into national laws, your vendor gives you 2 years legal guarantee (unless you bought it from a private non-merchant person). So, HTC does not have to do the repairs for free for you but your vendor has got to come up for it. It's as easy as 1 2 3. Turn against the vendor, not HTC.
Where I live, they have 1 month time to repair it, otherwise you can return the rest of the accessories (cables, CD, etc. which came with the product) to your vendor, who must then give a full refund on the original price. That's even easier during the 1st 6 months after sale. So, check out your legal situation first before paying sth. In case of doubt, counsel at the local consumer union.
This is why I only get contracts directly through the phone operator and not through a vendor like phones4u / carphone warehouse and always get insurance.
I had umpteen sony ericssons replaced under warranty with orange and they simply send a handset out within 24 hours no questions via courier. Under waranty the excess on insurance is waivered but it jsut means you don't have to wait up to a month for a replacement.
Also had to claim on insurance for a broken digitizer and that was again sent out within 24 hours.
HTC USA wont repair my HD's Newton Ring under warranty. They want $546 !!!
And again... for the 3th ****ing time, i've got newton rings :/
a specialist is going to take a look at it... It will also be fixed under warranty offcourse...
Next time i'm getting a new one. ffs!
Unlucky mun... i'd be furious.
Happening in the space of two weeks can't be neglect so i'd demand replacement phone.

The pink sticker indicates water damage so if you try to exchange it they will most likely charge you an out of warranty fee.
Water damage will screw you no matter what... so next time you decide to take your phone for a swim... its probably not a good idea

well, I guess you can try to switch the little stickers and see if you can get that to work. I'm sure alot of us will be interested to know if that works.\
I've dropped phones into toilets more than once, pools... i've also been pushed into pools with my phone on me, and I've also fallen into lakes and the ocean with the phone in my pocket.
I ended up having to buy a new one everytime... so if that works out for you, I'm sure alot of people would be interested in knowing how to get around that water damage sticker.
Water damage is like automatic denial of anything by customer service... so if you can get around that, maybe you'll have luck replacing it. Let us know what happens.
No they examine the phones when you ship your old one back and most of the time they still catch the water damage and charge your account. They refurbish the salvageable ones and pass them back out to customers who have not voided their warranty. I used to work for one of the retail stores and I've seen people try everything from peeling off the sticker to claiming it was only from humidity on a tropical vacation. Best thing ever though was a guy who thought his phone was waterproof because it was yellow. I'm not even kidding. Gotta love the Nextel customers haha.
well there no water damage so i think i can get away, but their wasn't a sticker on my dash so i have to find another. I was told by a pda rep who seem so amazed by me living in los angeles (that another story) that he will put notion so i won*t have to worry lol. I kno about nextel lol when i had a side job working for a retail store. they have strict rule. i mean we could lose our jobs if we give user extra ringtones. but that was about 3 or 4 yr ago. anyway i am sure i will get a new fone. Well yeah some people have gotten away with it. I did say "most". It's just luck though, whether they determine it do be under warranty or customer damaged. If the sticker is pink though some kind of moisture had to have come into contact with it. The sticker itself doesn't really matter, not all phones even have them. They look inside the phone and can tell if it's been exposed to liquid. Now if it's just barely pink and you maybe just splashed a bit once and no moisture really got inside the phone you might get away with it. This is all T-Mobile info by the way, I never worked for Nextel, that story was courtesy of one of my co-worker's previous jobs.
90% of phones have a water damage indicator sticker inside the phone. It's very rare the outer one is tripped and the inner one isn't.
There's absolutely no way to tell what actually triggered the sticker (was it thrown into a pool, or just taken into a cool house from being outside in the heat?) and there's no way to know if water damage is responsible for a phone acting up, so they simply void the warranty on any phone that's had it's sticker tripped. This comes direct from the phone manufacturer, btw, not the carrier.
I don't know T-Mobile's policies exactly, but with Verizon if you somehow manage to get a water damaged phone (or one with a tripped indicator) exchanged under warranty, they will bill you the full retail price of a brand-new phone for your refurb. So you might want to think twice about trying to sucker a store rep.
$110 insurance deductable is a lot better then a $400 charge on your next phone bill!

With all the above- you will be charged a OOW fee (out of warranty). For T-Mo it should be $100
If they don't (which is highly unlikely) you are a very lucky man/woman. You and me need to go to the track..
About 6-8 months ago I sent in a (perfect) phone that had a earpiece speaker going bad. -Stupid me could have fixed it for about $10... Sent it in under "warranty" to T-Mo and was hit up with a $100 OOW fee.
Stickers were WHITE- ALL of them... (There are stickers INSIDE the phone as well) I know this as I had it apart... Took pics... Thing is I can't tell T-Mo that as opening the unit would officially void the warranty as well.
Don't have kids- always retain possession of the phone, and have never dunked it in water. In addtion I sheild it from the rain- protect from temp changes... In other words "baby" the phone to the 9th degree...
Best of luck to you- but at the least you're looking at a $100 OOW fee- if phone is in warranty.
So far as claiming it lost or stolen- when it is NOT... Alot of times you will be required to fill out a police report- and the cops /judges aren't "cool" with filing false reports... Besides that there is something called karma to consider..You fill a false report- next day something bad happens..

just a little update i got my new wing and it been around two week and no letter or fees...
here wat i did
1 call them about a frezzeing problem and call keep going and i can*t end the call which is true..
2 the nice dude put all the noation
3 i told him that that the sticker was white but it was falling off cuz it slide against the battery. he look at his wing and notice that also
3 he put a little note to the warehouse about the sticker, so dnt mark me down
4 i removed the sticker
5 my fone come
6 i put a note in the box stating the man on the fone said tell u that the sticker was falling off and provided my email
7 after two week i post a update on these forums
8 since my fone was never around water i doubt it will never charge me
9 i jump around like a little kid
10 i buy a sidekick lx

On the nice dude noting "pinkish" sticker coming off. It is common practice for persons who have heard the sticker is supposed to be white, to remove the sticker if it's not.
The refurb center has the last word- if they say water damaged, etc- you get charged...

... I will endeavor on a journey using iFixIt.com's Nexus One Teardown Guide. There will be no need to document me taking apart the device, however, I will be taking pictures of the dust, the location of the leak, me cleaning the device, and an attempt to seal the leak. I bought the essential tools from ifixit.com: Phillips #00 Screwdriver, T4 Torx Screwdriver, iPod Opening Tools. This came out to a total of $12.85. I then used a $5.00 coupon code (11221FIXIT) bringing me down to $7.85. There is no sales tax unless you live in CA. Shipping was $3.17.
Long story short - I was tired of looking at the dust, tired of the HTC folks say "sorry, you voided your warranty" and "sorry, we only send you a refurbished device, not your own or a new one". So, I spent the $11 and I'm going to fix it on my own. WISH ME LUCK.

Alright folks - I took the time out of my day to open my Nexus One and clean off the dust underneath the screen. I took pictures. Here is my assessment after completing this daunting task.
PROS
-NO MORE DUST!!!!!!
-NOOOOOOOOOOOOO MORE DUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!!!!
CONS
-Takes a lot of time (2.5 hours)
-There is now a smear on the bottom of the screen now - it can only be seen in direct sunlight
-Putting it back together is an ASS-PAIN. Such a pain in fact, by the time I was finished there were still 2 screws left, and 3 weird rubbery pieces that I left out.
The phone is back together and in excellent working shape
All in all, only do this if you have the amount of dust under your screen like I did. I am happy with the results but I think I want a BRAND NEW PHONE. Oh well.. Enjoy the pics.

Ok, most important thing to do. Make sure you are in a clean room! Maybe even a Clean Room. Otherwise you will end up putting more dust in than you take out. Cheapest way is to run a hot shower and let the place fog up and then settle to get the dust out of the air. But probably not a good thing to open your phone while it is still fully fogged up as you'll get condensation inside it

Yes, of course I'll take pictures of the dust BEFORE I disassemble the device. And then I'll take the AFTER pictures when it's reassembled.

yeah i cant stress enough to make sure you do this in a claean environment. i tried doing this with my nokia e71, and i never could get the screen lcd clean no matter what i tried! as i put it back together, little particles would just gravitate to it no matter what. i would wipe and try to quickly put it together, more dust. tried again, more dust. over and over.
here at work we have cleanrooms at a extremely high rating. if only i could use them to disassemble my smartphone.

if you get a nexus just press down on the bottom by the capacitive buttons. If the screen creaks or feels like it gives just follow what Uansari1 did and heat it with a hair dryer for a few seconds from like 5in. away and the press firmly around the screen. It will help to reseal.

Weird. I have called HTC. I am on my second exchange from them with the same issue. Dust under the screen. I have yet to be asked if my bootloader is unlocked and they have not said anything about my warrenty being void. I am getting my second replacement phone tomorrow from HTC. I called them last night about 6PM PST.

i dont think it was a common problem at all. but then i have seen threads with many people havng this issue. so far my nexus has not had this issue at all and its over 3 months old. so i dont know. but i DO know that if you look in the iphone forums, dust under the screen threads are all over there too. even windows mobile forums have the same threads. so it seems like its a problem with most touch screen phones.

They put a $500+ hold on your credit card. They won't tell you that you will lose that money if you've unlocked your bootloader. My guess is, they're hoping you've voided your warranty, sent in an unlocked phone, and now they keep the money. I also asked them how much it would cost to repair it... They estimated $179. BULL****.. I KNOW.

Nah. Theres alredy a big thread about this. They do put a $530 hold on your CC. But the hold is gone once they receive the phone. If they WANT to charge you the its usually a $28 repair fee or you have a choice of sending back the replacement phone.

I have my nexus for 3 months and there no dust under the screen. I have also a hero for 9 months and no dust there also. I saw the threads to maybe people work in dusty places or they have a loot of dust in their pockets

If it's any consolation, I've had my replacement N1 since the 3rd week it was out... as someone said, as soon as I got it, I heated it up and pressed firmly all around the screen to make sure it was tightly sealed. It's still dust free today.

I will have to do this when I get my replacement N1 from HTC. I didnt do it with the first replacement and now theres just after 4 weeks of use.

I have been selling a couple a week at the cell phone store I work for, and haven't seen this on a single one of those. I would say all in all, I have sold about 20 Nexus One now.
Personally, I think the issue goes back to these shipping out during January during the coldest period of the winter, even having freezing temps all the way into Texas... I suspect that that phones got cold enough that through contraction and added brittleness of the adhesive in a cold state, the seal broke.

In case you are wondering, the box was in perfect condition. I am very, very angry right now and this was probably the last piece of hardware I bought from asus! Waiting a long time for spare parts for the repair, and then have the nerve to destroy my keyboard and just ship it back to me in this state! Update (14/09/2011): Today I finally received my dock back from asus. It once again spent a long time from home, due to asus miscommunication; I first had to wait a week for a response from asus on the damage, then after some hammering I could send it in for a free repair. Then after a week of "waiting for customer", they phoned me again asking for more pictures of the shipping box, when in fact the dock was already back at the repair facility... then a day later I got an invoice, asking me to pay 110 euro's for this repair which wasn't under warranty (mind you I can get a new one for less..). So I yet again had to explain, and after that things went smoothly, not counting DHL delivery. So 6-7 weeks after initially shipping it for the drain problem, I finally get to check if that has actually improved.
Needless to say I'm now very hesitant to buy any other asus gadget in the near future, especially because of the other repair damage threads that have popped up in the mean time
Just sent mine in. I took pictures of every side before returning so that they can't tell me it came to them that way. Keep us posted on their response. IMHO that screams new dock overnighted to you. Time to post this on their twitter site and see how long before they delete it.
BS - I'd be on the phone demanding an overnight replacement... don't even talk to the tier 1 people, demand a manager.
how can someone at the repair center send it out like that! Do they really thing the consumer will be like oh well and not complain. This really boggles my mind that they would do that.

Yes, and this is one of the cases where they owe you a little extra. There should be a few power adapters and a case or two in the box with the replacement.

Maybe handling.. but OP said box was not damaged, so it was packed already damaged.

(I'm worried now as I am preparing to ship mine to Asus this week).
I, for one, don't believe this. There's no way they'd ship out a dock in this condition knowingly. It is either a case of damage in shipping (it's quite possible that it could get damaged without visible damage to the box), or a case of an accidental switch with somebody else's damaged dock being returned to them.
Either way, I suggest the OP calms down, then calls and maybe gives whomever he talks to the benefit of the doubt, and an opportunity to fix the problem, rather than automatically assuming they deliberately smashed his dock up out of malice and sent it back to him, which is what the tone of his post would suggest.
And perhaps don't post next time until you've given the company you're slamming *any* opportunity to fix the problem, or even made them aware there's an issue.

This is GUARANTEED not shipping damage - we can tell from the photo. I could be wrong, like, I have heard of rats living inside keypads, and coming out at night and chewing on computers. Yeah right.
If you contact ASUS directly, they should help you. I am SURE all of us here and on all the other tablet forums will want to know what happens next. Please keep us posted. Good luck.

You're talking without ANY knowledge of the case. For all you know, the guy didn't pack the thing properly when he shipped it IN to Asus, it was damaged en route to Asus due to his own packaging (and/or on the way back if they reused his provided packaging), and he entirely caused his own problem.
I'm not, incidentally, saying that's what happened -- just that there is not sufficient proof in this thread for anybody except the OP to know what really happened, and it was irresponsible of him to post this thread without giving Asus any opportunity to make right if it *was* their fault. (And having worked in a similar capacity with other companies myself in the past, I don't believe for one second that an Asus employee would knowingly damage the guy's dock and return it without repairing the damage, or not check for damage if they dropped it themselves -- if the damage really happened between being sent in and received back, it's near-guaranteed to have happened during shipping.)
There are far too many people in this forum who, for some reason, believe Asus to be out to get them, and immediately clutch straws on the worst possible conclusion rather than simply giving them an opportunity to work to resolve the problem.

From the provided photo, it could not be *less* clear. It looks far more like impact damage to me (fatigued metal, dented around USB port, chipped finish nowhere near the seam between parts).
It would be beyond bizarre to see something like this resulting from an employee opening the case. People trying to get into products at home cause damage, because they don't have the correct tools, don't know where the latches and screws are located and how to get at them, don't have a way to release the latches simultaneously and have to resort to levering or hitting the case to try and release the latches, etc.
Professional service staff don't have any of these issues. We have the correct tools, and for high-volume items like this, we typically have tools specifically made to service the product (for example, a jig that you place the product into which applies the correct pressure at the correct points to release any latches so the case can be dismantled), not only to prevent damage, but also because it saves the employee's valuable time getting cases open so they can do more real work. We also know the locations of the screws and latches etc., and have generally been inside dozens if not hundreds of the things before, so we know precisely how to get a case apart without damage and quickly, even if it's a low-volume item that didn't merit making a specific jig for.
So no, as somebody who's done this work for a living, this doesn't look like damage made trying to enter the case. It looks like damage from a drop, either unprotected, or with insufficient protection.
Are you serious? Look at the damage. Shipping damage doesn't manifest itself as a white glue fingerprint nor does it stress one part of the bezel while leaving the other side completely intact. Notice the thinner strip is bent outwards, not inwards while the other side of the power port is fine. What kind of shipping damage does that? None. You'd have to wedge something in there and turn it to bend the weaker thinner strip outward or you'd have to pull on the weaker thinner strip from the outside with pliers.
Here's my two best bets on how this occurred just to show you how ridiculous that transit damage assertion is:
A screwdriver teleported into the gap between the two and during transit the box slammed onto a side which caused the screwdriver to bend the strip outward before promptly teleporting away.
The driver made a wrong turn and barely skimmed a black hole somewhere in the universe.
This was no shipping damage. If it was shipping damage it would present with a look as if it was slammed on a corner, not as if it was tooled apart.
Either the OP did it, another person did it or a service technician did it. This did not occur in transit, nor did it occur by itself.
You're also being entirely unreasonable to ask him to adopt a calm stance if it was a mistake. Calm would be acceptable if he hadn't paid the exorbitant return shipping fee Asus asks of all returns and if he hadn't waited weeks waiting for parts. Even if you're right and it was an accidental swap, he has a clear right to be ****ing enraged with the level of incompetence that occurred after he sent it to them on his own dime and time.

Hi fellow xda-ers,
I smashed my N4's back door yesterday, in a very eccentric way.
I was riding my race bike really fast, when I noticed something awkward in the balance of the bike, it felt kind of loose.
Cycling on a cobbled street, I didn't think more of it. Suddenly the rear wheel just hopped off, and stuck itself in the frame.
As I was pedaling standing, i was projected forward and almost fell. The upper part of my thighs struck the handlebar or the stem so hard, that it totally crushed my barely 2 months old N4.
Now, the back door is totally destroyed. It wouldn't be so much of a big deal if there wasn't dead pixel cloud on the screen...
The touchscreen is however fully working, tchecked it under developper options.
I am now wondering what to do. Either repair the back, get over the dead pixel problem and cross finger hoping nothing else has been damaged. Or repair the back, RMA the phone arguing about the drop connection problems (which I truely have been facing) and hope a new one comes. One last solution, which truely repels me, would be to repair the back, sell the phone and get a new one.
My question is, would a tiny grey cloud on the screen and a different backplate be noticed, if I RMA the phone ?
The spot is almost only visible on grey & white.
Please kindly spare me with the moral issues it raises. I am a student, I waited several months to get this phone and broke it out of bad luck, not even mishandling it. Plus the phone had dropouts problems ...

If you had bad luck, why is it the responsibility of Google to foot the bill of your bad luck? When did Google enter the business of insurance?
I understand that you're a student, but think about the above. And if the phone truly had substantial drop-out problems, you would have replaced it a long time ago. Your choice to keep the phone suggests that the "problem" is not as dire as you're making it out to be. It's funny how the phone breaks, and suddenly your phone had a "problem" all along that you "lived with".
Repair the phone, sell it off if you want, and disclose that information to your buyer.
Couldn't you call up LG customer care and send it to them to fix it for a cost?

A backplate is an ok cost. Backplate + Display is definitely not worth it...
So you don't think they would notice the damage to the phone once they get it back and not charge you?
The accident is through no fault of Google so they wont repair it for free. Even though you started the RMA procedure, they wont accept a damaged phone like that when you send it them. Most likely the hold they put on your card will actually be what you end up paying.
Under no circumstances should you sell the phone unless you tell the person what happened to it and sell it as-is without trying to fix it yourself. Some people are into fixing phones. Sending it to Google under the assumption that you are trying to fix a different problem so you can get a new phone is just plain dishonest. Karma is real and doesn't let people get away with dishonest actions for very long.

If you can live with the screen issue, fixing the back is a simple $10 thing. Go buy a DBrand skin http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095261 they will stick to broken screens and now you can't tell. No fancy pattern but you lost that anyway now.They are pretty thick and the black leather I have feels nice.
I keep thinking about bringing my N4 with mne when I ride but avoid it for this reason. I have hit my thigh on many things, I would rather pop out the SIM and use my HTC desire, but I generaly just ride without a phone or use the Desire as an MP3 player.

No one on here knows what Google is going to do even if you repair the phone. Its all just speculation as to what their process is for inspecting RMA'd devices. I believe the back glass runs around $100 and not sure if its an exact copy of the original or not. But if you repairs look original I say RMA it.

As you can see, my screen is weird. On dark grey images or basically any dark coloured backgrounds, one side of the screen is dark and one is as it should be.
On white, there is no clear pink tint. My issue is mostly on darker images only. And I know how good screen should look, this is second S6 in the family.
So I have read many such cases in other thread and though, well, samsung will replace this. Being weekend, I approached nearest service centre first thing on Monday morning.
And here the fun begins.
First the guy at counter refused to accept there is any issue. Ofcourse it was hard to spot in broad daylight with bright sunlight coming in place which basically had huge glass windows as walls. I requested them to go in the manager's office and see the issue there after dimming the light. The guy simply refused.
I asked for his duty manager and showed him the issue by creating the dark spot by surrounding the phone by bags of other customers who were there and mine. After that they agreed that yes, there is an issue. So I told them as phone is new and within 10 day DOA period, please issue me DOA certificate and new handset. At this point things turned sour.
They refused to do so saying they cannot guarantee DOA certificate for this issue a that time and will have to consult their higher ups.
Told me to call next day and accepted handset including all accessories.
NExt day, nobody picked up the phone at service centre when I called late in the afternoon. When there was again no answer on Wednesday morning, I contacted Samsung India on LiveChat and got the phone number of the manager of that service centre. After talking to her, the lady says on the phone that they cannot give DOA certificate for this issue and will instead be replacing the LCD ( Lulz for using LCD word for AMOLED display ) the same day.
I was not happy but thought ok, this might be better as there is always chance of getting another phone with dud screen.
Then I get a call on wednesday evening saying they replaced the "LCD" and found same issue with it. So according to their service engineer, this is not a fault and normal for the phone. Hence they will be putting OLD screen back and I should collect the phone from them. Here I lost it. I told them firmly that I will not accept a faulty screen or screen like that on a device costing Rs. 50000 (roughly $800 in india). Either fix it, or give me new phone. Upon hearing this the lady put the phone down. I went there personally and I was told they will be sending the phone to some other samsung facility for testing.
I immediately wrote to Samsung via their website explaining the issue I am facing with them as well as posted on their facebook wall. After a short while, i got call back from Samsung India HQ. Lady asked what the issue is, and told me she will look into it the next day.
So next day when there is still nothing from them, I again wrote to Samsung India via their website and called the manager which resulted in no updates. I got call back from Samsung HQ again after sending the mail via website from same lady. At this time, she gave me her email ID for futher conversation. (Miss Meenu Gupta from Samsung Gurgaon HQ). She was very polite on the phone and told me she will call me back shortly.
After a while I got a call back and this time she put area manager of Samsung services on the phone conference call.
Now comes the even more weird conversation. This person says as they tried replacing "LCD" there must be fault on motherboard and they will try replacing motherboard. I am puzzled at this point. I tried to explain to Miss Meenu Gupta in detailed email that this is a manufacturing defect and replacing motherboard is not going to achieve anything. Either change the screen or get me a fresh piece in a fresh email today.
I got a call back again short while ago, but she was helpless to do anything today as it is a public holiday for labour day.
So after spending Rs. 50k or close to $800 on a Samsung flagship, they have still refused to replace the phone with known manufacturing defect. For this same issue, people all over the world are getting replacements without much fuzz. But here, this is how Samsung treats the owners of their flagships. Today marks 1 week of my S6 ownership and it has been nothing but nightmare so far. My pocket is lighter, but I have no phone.

Your phone is actually not a special case, many phones are similar, if not worse. This is probably why Samsung won't acknowledge the issue, because then they would be liable to replace every phone with this issue (which is a large fraction).

In my case they have now accepted the issue that there is a patch on the screen. My main issue is their solution. They have spent 1 week trying to fix it. And puzzling thing is they are trying to do it by replacing motherboard now.
I question whether the local service guys actually know about AMOLED technology and its issues/limitations.
As I mentioned, I have a perfectly good S6 in family. This new one is not fine. And it looks lot worse in person than in the pictures here. I don't even have to crank up brightness to notice this like many. It can be seen even at lowest brightness and on auto brightness.
I should have been able to return this device and get credit note our refund so I can buy another. But even that courtesy is not being offered.
I will see what is the situation in Monday and if required I will be sending a legal notice to Samsung for this. I will fight this. I am not going to settle for defective hardware after spending $800. It is bit even about money. I go through 5-6 different flagships a year from different manufacturers, and I expect proper after sales service and most importantly them honoring DOA and return periods.
In this part of the world, it is a habit to take consumers for a ride instead of offering quick resolution.

In my case (Singapore) I was only offered one exchange, and it was still defective. So I ended up selling the phone, buying one again, and the new one had a worse tint. So it turns out there was an offer (using coupons) so I sold my third phone for a profit and am on my 4th one now.. and the fourth one may not be 100% perfect, but I can't notice the tint under most circumstances, so it's a keeper.
OP... There are a few steps you should take.
1. Tweet. Start publicly tweeting to the Samsung India and Samsung Worldwide accounts describing your issues and the horrible experience with Samsung support.
2. If the tweeting does nothing, email them and tell them you will be going to consumer court for mistreatment and failure to honor warranty.
3. Call up their customer helpline, insist on talking to the escalation team. Plead, shout, threaten and do whatever you can to get the service you deserve.
These idiots think that Indians are a third world country that shouldn't get any customer service, even though they charge us much more than the US or any other country, so you'll have a hard road ahead for you. But if you shout enough, then you will get the service you rightfully deserve.

I got call back from Samsung HQ again after sending the mail via website from same lady. At this time, she gave me her email ID for futher conversation. (Miss Meenu Gupta from Samsung Gurgaon HQ). She was very polite on the phone and told me she will call me back shortly.
After a while I got a call back and this time she put area manager of Samsung services on the phone conference call.
Now comes the even more weird conversation. This person says as they tried replacing "LCD" there must be fault on motherboard and they will try replacing motherboard. I am puzzled at this point. I tried to explain to Miss Meenu Gupta in detailed email that this is a manufacturing defect and replacing motherboard is not going to achieve anything. Either change the screen or get me a fresh piece in a fresh email today.
I got a call back again short while ago, but she was helpless to do anything today as it is a public holiday for labour day.
So after spending Rs. 50k or close to $800 on a Samsung flagship, they have still refused to replace the phone with known manufacturing defect. For this same issue, people all over the world are getting replacements without much fuzz. But here, this is how Samsung treats the owners of their flagships. Today marks 1 week of my S6 ownership and it has been nothing but nightmare so far. My pocket is lighter, but I have no phone.

DO NOT SETTLE FOR THIS. It is just unacceptable... I exchanged 2 nexus 6s last month for the same issue from flipkart.. Finally I pressed for a refund and got it right away.. Flipkart was really good on that part... So finally I got the s6 from an official sam store.. And the screen appears fine.. Even the display units I checked in showroom showed no tints.. DO NOT SETTLE FOR THIS.

Don't plan to settle.
I am approaching consumer forum later today as well as drafting a legal notice to Samsung mobile India and sending it to them if issue is not resolved today.

Awesome! Tbh it's not their fault.. They are doing the best they can in terms of manufacturing. Read my issues thread for why this happens.. But still we pay such a huge amount and anything like this is just unacceptable. I knew about this issue before I got my s6. I told the guys at the sam store that I'll check the phone and then pay them and they agreed. Luckily I got a good unit. Do let us know what happens.. If you need any support we are here good luck.
Well, I showed my middle finger to Sammy last week by selling off my S6 replacement which was worse that the original unit. My original unit had pink tint on the lower bottom and had scratches on the home button right out of the box. Though I faced a huge loss of 9k, I am still at peace not having the hideous device in front of me.
Your case clearly qualifies for a DOA certificate and I am not sure why these guys denied it to you in the first place. In the beginning, even I had a hard time convincing the service agent of the pink tint issue but he finally agreed to it and issued a DOA in half an hour. Your story is turning out to be a nightmare and is unacceptable of Samsung to make someone run around like this after spending 50k. I'd highly recommend you to use social media to voice your concern and share the link of that page here so that people like me or with similar issues can add to that.
As for me, I am done with Samsung and their AMOLED screens.
