TF3D Performance - Touch HD General

Hi all,
I have been searching high and low on XDA and using Google to try and find some answers to this but I have not had any luck. I've looked through the wiki and other threads. I'm sure that if I had looked when I first got my HD I would've found answers but now I can't. Did they ever exist? Anyway, my question....
My friend has a Diamond and his TF3D interface speed is amazing compared to mine. I have the stock rom and my TF3D version is 1.3.35350.1_1630.38.
The reason I ask now and didn't follow any developments when I first got my HD (around a year ago) is that I just installed SPB MS2. Now I am trying TF3D again but it is so slooooooow?
Another thing, my friend can just swipe his finger across the tab bar at the bottom and the different tabs load. Mine, I have to tap each button to see the relevant tab and even then, I wait sometimes half a second, sometimes a second or two. Edit: Sorry, wasn't pressing hard enough however, it is still slow at loading?
If it is suggested that I flash the ROM, I've never done this and so when doing so, do you lose all the installed programs and such? If yes, I have SPB Backup and so would doing a backup, flash ROM, run backup put me back to how my phone was pre-rom flash?
Thanks for any help offered.

Try searching this forum for a tweak software such as Tweak HD. If you install this and configure it with the adviced settings (ADV) your HD will be a lot faster.
You can also try and install the new VGA Driverpack from the project you can find in the ROM development section.

Thanks for the reply. I've installed HDTweak (did see this before) but was hoping for some registry tweaks instead. Would rather know what does what instead of installing an application that is supposed to perform certain changes/improvements.
See what happens after installing HDTweak.
Oh, I did also install the new Driverpack but found that games played slower. Maybe this has something to do with the screen having to draw more frames and so stressing the CPU more to do the same thing as if the driverpack wasn't installed? I'll post this question in that thread just to keep this one specific to TF3D!
Thanks

Are you sure? i had a diamond and the tf3d was crap even with the stock rom, i can use the swipe gesture on my HD to move from page to page aswell, and pages load pretty much instantly with mine, sounds like your device hasnt been optimed enough, just like a pc after extended use, it will become slow and unresponsive if you dont keep the file system and registy optimised

Be sure to go through all HDTweak settings. Change values to ADV under the performance section.

i agree you have to....
optimize your device to its fullest capacity..i have stock rom ... on hd and have used hd tweak, plus few other applications found here, like driverpack 3 , gfxboost.. and few registry tweaks .etc...i am very impressed with touch ( sensitivity ) , speed of opening of most applications (yes ,some does have slight lag ) but overall, programs eg..file exployer,programs..settings etc..open instantaneous ...
( i also set sensitivity, finger pressure in hdtweak to very high )
i further hardly swipe manila ..."home " tab and it slides ,right through to last tab ( settings tab ) on manila ( vice versa)
my advice is also optimize ,( trail and error ) and seach, seach ..xda threads..
good luck

Looking for help with Manilla2D. Device running EXTREMLY slow =(

Well I did 2 hard resets to see if Manilla2D was the problem and i'm using just that and the stock sprint 6.1 ROM and all of a sudden im having a couple annoying problems and wondering if there is any fixes to them.
- When I click on a Text Message from the main screen and it brings up the threaded texting, when im using XT9 and I start typing it will type as if im holding down the letters like if I press the "as" button "?" will come up, and for me to type normal i have to go to Start>Programs>Messaging, which is really annoying lol.
- Another one is im using the TouchFlo2D Dialer, if i switch to keypad from call status the whole phone freezes up and i have to soft reset
- everytime i restart my touch i get a startkey.exe error and i just hit dont send and start up touchflo.
- last problem/bug that i can remember is that my phone is really really slow and i have nothing on it except manilla2d.
these are the steps i did to install manilla 2D idk if it will help solve my problem:
copied the "EMPTY" biotouch.exe and 3 other files I got from XDA and put them in the "Windows" folder, then used resco registry editor and disabled the cube, then installed all the cabs for Manilla2D to my "Device" not storage card, (it asked me to soft reset after some of them, but i didnt since i was going to soft reset after i finished installing them all.) then soft reseted and manilla2d works just is really laggy =(
any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you in advance =D
I had the same problem with my phone running extremely slow whenever i tried installing manila 2d on my phone through the cab installs. I flashed to a custom rom with manila 2d built in it and the problems went away. It runs extremely smooth now.
ive never flashed my phone and only way i would do it if i had someone walk me through it as im doing it=\
How did you get the 6.1 ROM? You would flash it the same way as you did that one.
i just installed it from the htc site or whatever, but for custom roms dont you have to do all that unlocking and what not?

It's not terribly hard - in fact, the unlocking process is very similar to how you flashed the official ROM update.
Just use COKE's unlocker (just an app like the flasher) and install any custom ROM you want
this slowness has happened to me with a custom rom, i think its manilla.
it was very wierd, overall the entire OS was mega slow and un-usable as the OP said
I found what works best for me is piecing everything. I took everything from Update 19 except M2D-Beta-x.xx(Update19).cab. I installed M2D-Beta-x.xx(Update 15).cab (anything after made my device slow). I installed the latest version of Opera.
(sorry for the dots I'm just looking at them on my phonenand it's not showing all of the titles on some.)
First I ran:
HTC.home.v2.1.1005.722.directory.and.......... .cab
So From 19:
Enchasement..outlook.and.picture...... .cab
Audio Manager_2.0_1819.2129.cab
FSP, DShow, WMP, Youtube, Video Fixes.cab
Album_2.0_1818.3829.4.cab
Task_Manager_2.1 34837.5.cab
GoogleMaps_compressed.cab
HTC_Opera9.5.2392_www.cab(This is not from 19 Found it in another thread)
YouTubeQVGA1_5_1819_1531.and.mhubVO.cab
From Update 15:
M2D-Beta-0.08(Update 15).cab
Good Extras:
digital clock
Ringtone_plugin_1.00.080416.2.cab
Volume_control.cab
UI Tweaker

Great manilla2d rom
Hey guys.
If your looking for a good, fast, stable rom with manilla29 PLEASE flash this rom..............
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432487
NFSFAN has spent lots of time on this and is by far THE BEST manilla2d rom there is out there. He is constantly update bugs and getting the fixes out as soon as possible. This is the closest thing you can get to the diamond/touch pro without buying one. Any questions please feel free to ask BUT READ ALL DIRECTIONS ON FLASHING IF YOU HAVE NOT YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to second that.
I used to have the stock Bell 3.09.666.10 ROM, with (my last incarnation) update 21. To get all the parts of M2D running (yuotube etc) you have to install alot of patches and tweaks.
My theory has always been, if you have to add too many parts to get something to work, maybe you should start over. Google "Beech 1900D" to see how this applies to aircraft!! A custom ROM with everyhting cooked in oem style runs much better than a Frankenstien special.
It is fun trying to get everything to work though.
When I first added M2D to my device it was extremely slow. After playing around for a while I found that the page pool played a huge roll in the speed of the rom. My page pool is set at 24 and I have no problems at all. I have had no problems with NFSFAN's roms. I believe the PP is already set to 24. Hope this helps.

noob question

hello xda members,
how do i get a new windows on my mobile phone?
can somebody help me?
i'm a little confused about this here.. my friend told me i should look into this here but informiation is too much for me. we both got this trinity phone from our provider but functionality is poor ... i read somewhere it would have also gps? so how do i activate/use this?

some more details how to flash your phone.
Not that i am going to write you the whole procedure but...
1. Choose the rom with the proper language. WWE for English, FRA for French, etc.
2. There are several very good cooked roms in this forum. All will be WM6.1 with different 'borrowed' features from more advanced phones than ours, who is pretty 'old' in phone years..
3. download the rom package. It is normally ZIP or RAR. Extract them to your PC, have the phone connected (Active Sync must recognize your phone), and run the application to flash the rom. check the right boxes and it supposes to flash your rom. make sure your battery is at 50% at least, and do not stop this process until it finishes.
4. Some phones may get errors trying to flash. In that case you should make your phone start in IPL mode (push power, camera and stylus push the reset button for more than 1 second) until you get the right screen. I assume your phone is unlocked. If it is, and have hard SPL ready, see next item. If not, start doing some massive reading on the forum what needs to be done.
5. better read this link before you start: http://www.trinityguides.info/index.php . It's the best source for answering most of the questions you may have.
6. Don't ask people what rom is the best. You will get more answers than roms... You have to try and flash few until you get the one you like.
7. The best home plug-in currently is Manila 2D . Most cookers will have it with and without it. Try one with it, as it is better to get it cooked than added later. However, it is a matter of taste and memory management, so you may want to have one without.
8. Lastly- there are lite, medium and full blown roms. Again- it depends what your needs are.
So, it's a trial and error, my friend. Get ready for some sleepless nights.
Good luck

Basically, "skin" and "theme" mean the same thing. They both refer to changing the screen display on a device.
One popular "theme" in the Trinity forum is making the screen display look like that of the HTC Diamond device. That is why the themes have the word "diamond" in their name.
Hope this helps,
Mattster.

The Choice is yours.
Flash a Manila ROM and install m2dc customiser (some roms come with it already installed), you will have easy access to many, many themes that will change the appearance of your home screen and launch screens (messages, contacts, settings, etc.) It does use more memory and slow your phone down slightly, but for some that is not a problem.
Flash a non Manila ROM: you are more limited, but you can simply change the background artwork of your screen ("wallpaper") using .tsk files. There are also tweaking programs that allow you to change font sizes & colours. There is also pay for software out there (like spb mobile shell) which allows you to install themes, and xda does have threads for them.
If your main enjoyment is playing around with themes (as opposed to relying on the phone for memory intensive applications), I recommend you read as much as possible on the manila2d skin threads, then flash a Manila rom and use m2dc customiser. Searches on xda will explain all.
Hope this helps,
Mattster.

I just got a touch hd, and have seen so many posts on roms... what is the best recommended rom to use, or should I stick with the stock rom?
Also, if I do decide to change the rom - what is the easiest method to use, and can i backup or download the original rom incase it goes wrong?

Best thing you can do is explore your HD and read the WIKI
All your queries on ROM's can be found in the Wiki pages
Play around with it for a few weeks and then decide
I would NOT recommend to change the ROM now. Wait for a while. Learn the device first and load up:
1. Applications - see the s/w wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Software
2. Cosmetic changes to TF3D. Here you can find hundreds of adaptions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=480510
I originally did not plan to stick with TF3D - it's very pretty and seductive but configuration options are limited and there are some constraints (like number of SMS, Stocks, emails) which are irritating. However, I'm still using it six months later BUT with SecondToday so I can get a full today screen and use SBSH PocketBreeze, etc.
I guess first thing is to sync the HD up with outlook on the PC ?

Touch Flo

Hi guys,
first of all I would like to congratulate all of you for apps & info. The phone would be a disappointment for me if xda-developers didn't exist.
As I am a newbie in the winmo family I need some info. I want to install touch flo (I don't care which edition, as long as it is a cab) and I have some questions:
1. which cab should I try? Please don't propose any roms, I am not ready for that step yet . I want a stable and not battery-thirsty version, don't care if the best would be 2D or having to wait for touch flo 3D 2.
2. Can I install it on the memory card? If yes, do you know what are the pros/cons?
3. Will I be able to uninstall it and how?
4. Any other advice???
As I have noticed on the many touch flo related threads, there are a lot of people having the same questions. Please help us all!
Thanks in advance
My personal and honest opinion follows.
1 - Install nothing. Touch Flo sucks big time. (great job to the people who ported it to the x1, but the app itself sucks)
2 - See point 1.
3 - As far as i know it cannot be installed and you have to do a hard reset. My info is outdated though. Maybe with the newer version you can do it???? Again see point 1.
4 - See point 1.
Agreed
I ran it for a little while, but the performance was appauling, a cooked ROM with it should be faster because it's in the ROM and works differently.
Without TouchFlo my Windows folder takes 3 seconds to load, with it, the Windows folder takes well over 30 seconds.
I decided to just install some simple things like the task manager, the volume control and the mp3 trimmer. Kept everything else stock and just installed some nice HomeScreen plugins to make it do what i want.
Even if you get TouchFlo, they aren't all landscape compatible, only tyhe new TouchFlo 2(?) and as far as i know even with those some things like the cammera buttons (on screen, not physical) don't work.

1- try itje's manilaHD cab. you'll find in this forum
2- no
3- yes, same way as all programs (always DO a backup before you install something huge or intrusive like tflo3d, I suggest spb backup)
4- I simply love tflo3d and suggest you to try a rom with new manila cooked in. It's faster for interface and for all the rest as cooked roms comes with all brand new build and drivers. go trough the forum, read and flash... don't be scared, just follow the procedures

Yeah, the ROMS work fine but the cabs outthere are crab. They are far from being stable, fast or useable.
I prefer the SE panel because all the information is on one page there without the need of flipping around.
My suggestion: If you really want TF3D, then flash your phone with a custom ROM (Itje's for English language, YYYYY has mad a fine ROM in German). That is the only way to have a fast and stable TF3D and also the option of using the panels!
Lol

Well obviously I know this, otherwise why would I make a reference about how it takes significantly longer to load the windows folder?
But 100% more files? Surely then it takes 100% longer to load, not 1000%.
And I gave no incorrect info, I said "they aren't all landscape compatible, only tyhe new TouchFlo 2(?)" - The question mark means I wasn't entirely sure on the name, so it's Manila 2, all the same to me.
Also, "and as far as i know even with those some things like the cammera buttons (on screen, not physical) don't work." - This means I'm not entirely sure if this is the case and it should be looked into.
and Finally "manila2 roms from itje and jackleung works flawlessy." - I specifically remember the OP asking for a cab and not a ROM. Which is where my information was directed.

Well, I think Guap is mostly right and you simply know nothing what you really talking about. Let me give you some fact:
1. First, you got to understand it's "non rom" files under /Windows tax more on performance. A clean WM has only about ~20 "non rom" files under \Windows, TF3D 2 alone (not including all the complicated dependence like camera, album, audio manager ..etc) put 2219 files to /Window if using cab (TF3D 1 is ~ 2000 files). Therefore, it's normal it's take 1000% more time.
2. From your words, it simply show you did not try enough custom roms before you made yr comment. All my rom (from 2.2 to 2.7) do not have camera button problem. Obeviously your "as far as i know" isn't far enough.
I stated earlier in other thread already. If you really want to use TF3D (v1 or v2), pick an custom rom and forget about CAB. Using a cab for TF3D is simply hiting yr toe w/ a rock because you will be disappointed by the speed and compatibity issue.
duplicated post.

TF3D/Manilla Advice

I'm Kinda new to the forum and have only recently tried to add new apps and stuff to my X1.
There is a lot of information here about various versions of TF3D/Manilla and if I'm honest there is a little too much and I'm a bit lost amongst it all.
I should state that I have successfully installed a version of TF3D from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442154
but have since removed it due to 1 or 2 issues (worst of which was really slow performance when looking at the photo albumn and not being able to see photos taken with the camera on the pictures tab). So I thought I'd ask for some advice before re-trying.
Question 1.
Which is the best version to install from a stability/features included point of view. Also I am not confident with burning a new ROM so would prefer just a .cab instrall.
Question 2.
For the install recomended is there a way to have it as a seperate panel rather than a today screen replacement. Are there any drawbacks to installing as a panel?
Question 3.
Are there any issues when switched to lanscape mode? (there was on the version I used) if so which modification would be compatable with the one recomended.
Finally if there are any other recomendations you have, for example, further modifications to make the TF3D experience more pleasurable, should I not worry about rom flashing and are there any alternatives to TF3D which could give me the polished interface i am looking for.
Cheers all

Thanks but that leads me to one of the things i was confusedf about.
In the TF3D in Landscape mode thread it is stated that support for the app has been discontinued due to the release and porting of Manilla 2. So should I be using that? if so where can I get it?
Thanks to Sonny
Just wanted to bump this post to see if there was any other advice out there.
I did find the x-panel which look like it may have potential but just wasn't feature filled enough yet.
Cheers
Try TF3D 2 Beta 3
Ah! Just had a ton of pop-ups and now have to type all of this out again..!
Okay, will try to keep it short this time.
Try Daran_Clarke's TF3D 2 (Beta 3). It's taken from the new HTC Touch Pro 2. It includes the official HTC landscape view which works very well. You can install the CAB from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448178
Some advice though. The Right Softkey function gets changed when you install this so the function is to take you to the Today screen, rather than the option above it on the screen (such as Contacts or Menu etc). You can change the Button settings but whenever you restart the machine, this gets reverted back, so that it takes you to the Today screen.
Himuraken was kind enough to point me in the direction of a .dll file which corrects this problem. It's called ManilaToday.dll. There will already be a file named this in the Windows directory on your phone, which you will need to delete. You can't delete this from your PC using ActiveSync. You need to use the FileExplorer on your X1 and browse to the Windows directory. Once there, select 'Menu' then 'Show All Files'. It may take a minute or so to display anything because there are so many files there. Delete ManilaToday.dll and then use ActiveSync to copy the new one across to that same location (Windows directory). You might need to set the Right Softkey button function to Right Softkey, but then when you restart it will keep this setting. You can get the new ManilaToday.dll from here...

Now just if someone could make a Panel for this new TF3D 2! May be awkward tho, as I think there is a new Panel Manager with the new R3AA roms. The Panels designed for that don't work on R2 roms, such as the Growing Panel. So we need someone to make a Panel for this on both the new and old Panel manager! Doubt it'll happen though, and I doubt I'll have the R3AA rom for quite some time. O2 in the UK took literally about 5 months to release the R2 rom!
Regards
Sonny
Thanks again to Sonny I'll probably try that next.
I had i little bit of success with the original Touch-it install now though. I istalled the version 2 of the album app which seems to work much quicker that what is packaged in the Full CAB.
I still have 1 issue tho i wonder if anyone can help?
I want to be able to see all my pictures on the Photos and Videos tab without having to use album app. Currently only images in the my pictures tab display, I'd like to see images that have been taken with the camera whether they are stored in mypicture/camera/100xperia or on the memory card /dcim/100xperia/.
Is there anyway to change this?
Nevermind I sorted it now. Everything is working nice.
Now if only the lanscape app would work properly it would be perfect. Maybe a move to the install Sonny suggested will give me everything I'm after

Doubt it'll happen though, and I doubt I'll have the R3AA rom for quite some time. O2 in the UK took literally about 5 months to release the R2 rom!

That's provided you're using Beta 2 or earlier of the TF3D cab.
