Ok so I have installed M2D from the beginning and got it working....kind of.... I have a lot of questions about it but I love how fast it works. But everytime I close a program and go back to my home screen it says "TOUCH HERE TO LAUNCH TOUCHFLO". With having to wait for this to load every time I close something I don't think it is worth installing anymore. If anyone can tell me how to have it loaded from when I accept it the Today menu instead of having to keep loading it. THis is a major deal breaker. Does anyone else have any feedback on M2D?
I had the same problem. I uninstalled it now.
sometimes it happens with me to, but maybe it closes automaticly when you run out of RAM? so you have to free up ram by closing other programs?
That happened to me until I installed Update 13. Now it only does that when the phone is booting up. After that any program I close brings me to the Today Screen automatically without giving me the Loading Touchflo prompt.
I followed the instructions and it works wonderfully me, I have no problem with m2d, is perfect in my sprint touch
Can you guys help me find this?

Where is this? I want to try installing from the beginning.
may be because of still developement is going on some glitches here and there. once opal is officially released it may solve all the problems.. we hope so.. as of now i have uninstalled it..
I am waiting for someone to hack the heck out of it to make it MUCH smaller, and more flexible (e.g., use other apps that default HTC ones).
But it sure is slick!
Hi
I'm not sure if I misunderstood something with the early M2D versions, but is it (still) true, that installing M2D will disable every other today plugin? I have phoneAlarm running and wouldn't like to have to scrap that.
Do you know where to get update 1 thru 4?
Amazing progress for WM
Hey, I installed everything that was in those instruction folders made few resets and turn off the cube. And now everything works perfectly including longer battery charge and much much faster phone performance... I am using Sprint HTC Touch
Does anybody know of why this won't work on non HTC devices? I tried installing it on my Samsung i760. It installed no prob, but when loading, it keeps saying "TOUCH HERE TO LAUNCH TOUFLO" and nothing.
Its probably something to do with the drivers Im guessing.
Any ideas? it looks like an awesome interface and it would great to see this running on any WM6.1 device.
Which files to install on a standard ROM
Deleted, posted in other thread...
I hope this is ok here, I have searched a lot and my question is not directly answered (or I can not find it)
I have just had a new HD turn up, had one when they first came out but liked iPhone so much, could not stop using it, so Touch HD went back.
Just been through lots of different phones again, as at last I am finding iPhone limiting in the things I want to do. Just rejected a TP2 as it has no 3.3mm socket, and is a bit heavy, quite happy with soft keyboard now from iPhone use, so I think Touch HD will suit me fine.
OK, I really liked the TP2 feel, and software, but I also liked using SPB Mobileshell 3 on it, so I plan to use this on my HD.
Now, finally my question
I have never understood why I might want to put a custom ROM on my device. I have read all the guides, and the dummies guide, but although that helps me understand HOW to do it, not sure why I would WANT to do it?
I can understand for those people that have a horrible Orange branded one or something, but mine is standard 1.56.405.1 from HTC, unbranded.
So, I see that Custom ROM can have programs already in them, and they add features like the new TF3D on the TP2, which I liked, but since I am gonna use SPB MS3 is there any point?
Sorry if I sound like a total noob, I really am not (just flashed an Orange Samsung i8910 from and to Orange 4 times so I can follow these things), but in the case of the i8910, I could see why I would flash new ROM, to get rid of Orange crap, but here, just really confused.
Thanks in advance for any insight, if I have posted in wrong place, please point me to correct place.
Kev
I also use MS3 and have been wondering if it's worth upgrading to a new ROM as most are TFL3D.
I guess after upgrading to a new ROM that the provider details will need to be reset - but that's not a bigee as the OS looks up the details right ?
<draws up a chair>
A small list of pro's & con's below:
Pros:
- New features - A lot of new features first arrive on cooked roms like new touch flow interface from the new rhodium and topaz htc phones. Obviously most stock roms now have this, but originally they didn't. Without flashing, this wouldnt have been available.
- New manila which makes customization easier
- You can install new OSs such as windows mobile 6.5
- Various types of roms available, i.e. "lite" ROMs which have very little features and as a result are faster or "heavier" ROMs which tend to be a bit slower though gap in speed has dramatically decreased with newer versions.
- Have many features/apps already "cooked" into the ROM to save you installing them yourself after a hard reset
- Some have new drivers which improve performance.
- Some have custom interfaces
- Process isnt that hard once youve got hardspl/uspl sorted (and that gets easy after a short while too). its all run through an app on your computer with your HTC connected via activesync to your computer which is about as easy as installing a program (just click next, i agree etc.)
Con's
- Can take a bit of time to get used to the process. But once you have it becomes vry quick
- Need to use backup software as all your apps and contacts (everything on the main memory is wiped clean. Information on SD is left untouched). Recommend Sashimi, PIM Backup & SPB Backup.
If you use your HTC for more than just its basic features and want to get the most out of it, definately flash a new ROM. The performance increase is noticeable going from a stock ROM to a well cooked ROM. You'll have to use HSPL or USPL on your phone first. My mate cRaCKwHoRe has provided this excellent guide
new manila which makes customization easier, offers landscape all over, better speed all over, even under heavy stress....my absolute favourite, Start is no longer that ugly WinMo '90s look-a-like square drop down menu, it's a program launcher i can open from any tab, program, whatever, so it's oh so easy to open anything from anywhere in two very fast and smooth clicks
can't even remember does the stock have whole Facebook profile linking to Contacts profile, saving pic and birthday (which i then sync to Outlook, which syncs it to Calendar)....oh, manila calendar, the WinMo thing is just awful, i'd rather use pen and paper
the whole experience is much much prettier, more user friendly and faster at that....with every update there's less WM and more manila, which is what everyone probably wants (from HTC or generally) :/
OK, so Manila and TF3D are exactly the same thing?
So assuming this is true, all the stuff I could do on the TP2 I had would be doable on this Touch HD if I put a cooked ROM with Manila 2.5 on?

Thanks so much for taking the time to do that. I think I am getting.
As I ask someone else, Manila and TF3D are the same thing right?
So, this HardSpl and softSpl, I have read the guide, but am still not clear why I would use one over the other?
At first glance, it would make sense to only use Hard? Why might someone not want to do that?
Kev
huh, i use USPL because it's a small program you run, it takes about 10sec to load and you're done, ready to flash....HSPL seemed like more hassle to begin with and USPL is really easy and simple :/ somehow even if i flashed 10 times a day, i wouldn't really see a problem with just running USPL :/
manila 2.5 is leaked, not officially out on any phone, 2.1 is out on TP2....and 2.5 is bugged, probably just a fun thing to try, not really use daily and seriously....2.0 and 2.1 are your every day options, and yes, probably everything on TP2 is in some of the ROMs cooked for Touch HD
Ah, OK so USPL would be good for me as I do not intend to flash new ROM very often?
It seems HardSPL would be for people that would be flashing all the time?
I read the bit where you say you would use USPL even if flashing lots, but surely if you were, HardSPL would be better?
Ok, so forget 2.5 Manila then, (just saw a Video and thought it was common), look for ROM with 2.1?
What version do we have on stock HD?
Thanks for answering.

HSPL is an user-modified SPL that you have to flash to your phone. It overwrites the existing SPL on your device with a "hacked" one so to say. It allows you to bypass the HTC certificate check and flash unsigned or CID-mismatching roms to your phone. You only have to flash it once and then you can flash roms anytime.
USPL is a temporary solution. It takes advantage of an exploit in the existing SPL and then loads a modified one to memory, effectively allowing the same thing as HSPL. However, since this is only memory-resident you have to do it each time you want to flash unsigned or CID-mismatching roms to your phone, because this exploited state is lost upon reboot. With USPL you must still have the right version of the HTC SPL that is compatible with the rom you want to use.
Basic difference is that HSPL is permanent and voids warranty and USPL is temporary and thus doesn't void warranty. However, once you use HSPL you can flash any radio & rom any time you want, but with USPL you need to reuse it before every flash to new radio or rom.
If you put HSPL on your device you can remove it by following procedure at bottom on first post in this thread.
There are 2 versions of HSPL, 1.14 & 1.56. Make sure you use the correct version for whatever rom you intend to flash to, i.e.
HSPL 1.56 is for roms based on 1.56+
HSPL 1.14 is for roms based on pre 1.56

Ok, go to settings tab in TF3D and scroll down to 'About'. It should state something like TouchFLO 3D 2.1.38147.5. I highlighted the version in bold i.e. In this case its manila version 2.1
Ok, I think I need to flash a ROM, as I am finding the Touch HD a little less exciting than the TP2 I just sent back.
I liked the TP2 but it was heavy and had no 3.5mm jack, but it seemed quite a bit faster than this HD. Screen seemed much brighter as well, is that possible?
Anyway, now I have decided, I really don't have a clue what ROM to use. I have been reading this site for the last 4 hours, and am no further forward.

I'm hoping to get some answers out of this thread as well Kev - without hijacking though
If I want to keep all my current program settings and the like, is there a foolproof method by which I can restore programs from a backup on my Stock rom, onto a newly flashed cooked ROM.
I am looking for the newer features of the latest manilla but I don't want to lose any of my current data and go through the process of reinstalling the programs again.
I have pimbackup so know that will be a synch!
lol, well, Dutty 3.9XT is a huge hit, i love it and think it should be made stock, so you can go with that one....i also tried Laurentis26 latest one and it was lightning fast and smooth and is based on TP2 ROM so that's another option
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537948
manila 2.1 can have an sms bug, not everyone has it, but even TP2 suffers from it and there's still no official HTC fix....some people can't send 2 sms in a row to a same person, i am one of them and that's why i stick to manila 2.0 :/

Hijack all you want mate, we will get better answers!
I want to flash before I get it all setup, and I need to hide my iPhone away, the screen is so much brighter than this HD :-(
I keep thinking though, all my old WM devices were based on standard software and SPB Pocket Plus, and I do like the standard today screen. With this in mind, how much will I benefit from a new ROM since they all seem to be based around really good inplementation of TF3D.

Although a lot of roms are based around good implementation of TF3D, they are also cutomized for speed, performance & stability of phone overall. So a cooked rom should out perform a stock rom in almost all categories

..and what about my particular question relating to restoration of stock rom backup (programs, not rom files obviously)
Just to add my own view to this as I have had the same dilemma in the past.
I stayed with stock....basically because I have quite a few apps installed on my device, and it seems that almost every other day updates are coming out to cooked ROMs to fix bugs, and it takes half a day to reinstall my apps and set them up. if ROM updates are coming out every few days I would spend half my life updating to the new one to fix a bug and then having to reinstall my apps.

am afraid there's no way to restore programs, they have to be reinstalled since flashing is just like hard reset/clear storage, deletes everything on the device (not the storage card) :/
also, with flashing you're upgrading manila and most other programs to latest released built, so you don't wanna restore old files as they might not work with newer versions :/
i use Outlook to re-sync my contacts and calendar and Microsoft MyPhone to restore sms messages....also have opera6.adr file on my storage card which i just copy into /Windows/Opera folder to restore my bookmarks....RSS Hub i set to use Storage Card for data, then it says i already have some settings there and asks do i want to overwrite, select no and i have my old channels set
rest i do by hand, but post-flash set up takes 30min once you get used to it :/ many programs/icons/stuff require a restart after installation, one just remembers which and does them one after the other and then, after you installed taskbar, clock, icons, s2u2, such, you do one restart and it's all done in minutes
@twisted-pixel: yes, it can happen that you flash weekly to correct bugs....however i'm on the same ROM now for month and a half, did flash last week, 3 times in a day, but i was bored and wanted to try out stuff went back to the same ROM again at the end of the day
I have NRGZ28's ENERGY ROM, its worth flashing it, if for nothing else, the SPEED. My HD had all the 'Orange' crap on it and it was so slow compared to how it is now....go ahead....FLASH!! (your rom, that is)

Just to update you all on this.
Throy's latest roms have included an auto-install for apps when flashing. I've tried this and it works a charm. See quote below.
Autoinstall thanks to my Good friend Tom: [ FAST and Fantastic.]Create folder in Root of Storage Card called [ Autoinstall ]
Copy all your cabs in that folder
After Flash , and during customisations all your cab will be installed.
Also set your cabs to read only
So get Your Storage Card prepared with all your Cabs to install.

Only drawback on this is that all apps are installed onto main menu, so if you want any apps installed on your SD Card you will have to install them manually or alternatively use Sashimi backup which also auto-installs apps etc
Hi all,
Newbie here
EX iPhone 3g user now HD user
I would like to ask, is it possible to change the People Tab on the HD to one like on the Touch Pro2 as an example.
I would prefer to have squares of faces than the flip faces that there are now.
all the best...
Any help is appreciated.
chill.
If I understand you correctly, you are referring to the difference in Contact tabs between Manila 2.1 (also known as HTC's TouchFlo 3D), and Manila 2.5 (known as HTC Sense), which will come out on the new HTC devices such as the Leo (also known as the Touch HD2).
As far as I know, the only way to use the new interface is to flash a ROM that has Manila 2.5.
I currently use Dutty's Leo R6 with WM6.5 and Manila 2.5. I really like it.
You can find it here. You'll have to register to be able to download it.
BTW - Welcome to the forum!!!!!!
Thanks Chris Cross,
This is what I am looking for.
Hope I have explained it right.
Not sure what Manilla 2.1 or 2.5 are, but thanks.
If I was to install the Dutty rom, would I loose any features ? Could I return to Original rom if I needed ?
Sorry for too many questions..
chill....
Yes, that is a picture of Manila 2.5.
Okay, I'll explain what Manila is.
Windows Mobile phones have a generic windows interface. HTC came up with their own layout and called it Manila. The more common name was TouchFlo. First was TouchFlo 2D, then came TouchFlo 3D, and now the new one is called HTC Sense (I guess they wanted to change the name now. ). In terms of your phone, you will see that the name Manila is still used (for example in registry settings etc.).
So, when you start your phone, it automatically goes into the Manila layout from HTC. In other words, the whole concept of having the slider at the bottom which takes you to the different tabs (and each of their sub-menus) etc.. is the Manila interface. Other Windows Mobile phones that are not from HTC don't have that (unless they have tried to copy the concept).
So, Manila version 2.1 (=TouchFlo 3D) had a Contacts tab with the little slider on the right, to switch between contacts (or you could flip through them too). Now, Manila 2.5 (which ships with the new HTC phones) changed that layout to look like what you are referring to - i.e. the big square pictures. You see 9 right away, and if you flip up, then 6 more appear for a total of 15. That is just one of the layout changes that are new in Manila 2.5. You will also see a new change in the Home tab, where below the clock, you now have Quick Links. They also look like squares and you can link them to a contact or a program for quick access directly from the home tab. Like I said, there are several new changes like that in Manila 2.5
I'll leave it at that for now. I need to stop for a second, but I'll come back to this same post and give you some info on flashing a new rom.
EDIT: see post below for info on flashing roms

Flashing a new rom means that you will completely erase the entire drive on the phone and you will install a brand new system. So... yes, you will lose everything that is in the internal storage (but not in the SD card).
You can go back to the rom your phone came with (referred to as a "stock" rom). To do that, you would have to flash (= install) the stock rom, and once again, you would lose everything you have at that point and you would end up with your phone as it came out of the box.
There is also backup software you can buy to backup all your programs, files etc.. in case you ever flash the stock rom again and you want things the way they are today. As far as I know, you cannot (or at least - should not) use that backup file on a rom other than the one that was installed when the backup file was created.
I have had my HD for 11 months. I flashed a new rom for the first time about 2 weeks after buying my HD. I think it is totally worth it. There are a lot of rom cooks out there that do a great job at making solid, stable roms. Dutty is definitely among the most well known and respected for the quality of work he does. He tries to keep his roms as close to stock as possible, but he makes changes that improve the speed and overall user-friendliness of the rom.
You do have to keep in mind, that if you flash a new rom with Manila 2.5 and Windows Mobile 6.5, some things might not work 100% right away because those are new releases. Dutty is constantly updating his rom to fix any known issues. Whenever an update is made, you flash that updated rom - and once again it means you lose your settings. But, the benefits of having a nicer rom outweigh the cons of having to set up your phone as you like it again. Eventually, the rom becomes really stable and you can go months without needing to flash anything.
If you are interested in flashing Dutty's new rom, let me know and I can give you links that explain how to do that.
All sounds very interesting. I'll chew on this a little.
Its not like I am unhappy with the HD, but just the People tab is a little frustrating to use.
I'll have a good look over at the roms section, and if I do give it a shot, I'll be knocking
I have flashed a HTC Touch before. A bit scary doing it, but went OK in the end.
The phone was freezing up, and was out of warrenty, so nowt to lose.
If its a similar process, then not to scary after all.
thanks
chill......
Yeah, it's the same thing. It's not too scary, but you just have to make sure you read about how to do it the first time, so that you don't make big mistakes. Technically, you could turn your phone into a brick (i.e. permanently dead), but that's really only if you somehow cut power to the phone during the process (e.g. if you unplug the cord or start with a low battery). If you just follow the steps - you'll be fine, and it will take about 10 minutes of actual flashing time. Once you have done it, you realize it is no big deal.
Check out the ROM threads - especially this tutorial!!! Depending on what type of ROM you have right now, you might need to do extra steps before flashing a newer version ROM. It is all explained in that tutorial. And Dutty's latest Leo R6 ROM can be found here. You can follow any developments or bug reports and fixes etc. regarding Dutty's Leo ROM in this thread.
Also, you might want to look and see if your stock ROM is available for download (in case you later want to go back to it - but I doubt you will). You can also go back to other stock ROMs if you want.
Just ask if you have questions.
Thanks a lot.
I've only been here 5 minutes and all this help. Nice place here.
There are Lots of Roms, so would need to chose carefully. I have been trying SPB Mobile Shell, which is quite nice. Not a full replacement rom, but a nice touch.
Thanks again, I will read on.

The Core Player is working fine for me.
ops, coreplayer should not be in there, gotta recook and up again. (coreplayer needs edit in settings to work though, set video output to GDI)

The ROM feels smooth and stable. But not as fast, I'm talking specific to scrolling in cntacts, etc.
The only small consmetic issue I see is, While in lock screen, The Time that shows up... The digits for the seconds are cut off on the top. Really strange though....

Hm, weird, scrolling in contacts is very fast for me.
in lockscreen I have no issues, (besides that calendar icons that shows up in theese builds) here is mine right now:
I should have specified. I use a cab where the Silde to lock comes to the bottom of the screen and the Time goes on top of the screen.
Below is the screen shot, Look at the #2, you would notice better. Again, probably to do with the CAB, but I did not see this in anyother ROM.
Please dont get me wrong... not a big deal at all...

ah, ok ..please dont report bugs if mods are installed..as in thsi cause. If you do, please always write what mods is used, cause its timeconsuming to look for bugs reported in my rom that comes from mods.
Besides that, what builds have you used it on before? have you tested the mod on 23518 before? or on roms based on 2.02 leo rom?
I am trying to download but the link seems to be broken!
Hello everyone!
Many people asked me to create an English rom. After two weeks of hard work here it is! probably suffers many bugs and so it's still a beta. I ask you kindly to try it and leave me a feedback.
Features:
- This is a lite rom: FREE RAM over 60%
- Manila is not cooked in, but I leave you a Manila themed cab:
http://www.4shared.com/file/gRnpBXUr/2DManila_201919143204Pajerm_MO.html
- This rom is already overclocked at 276MHz and then do not install other overclocking tools
- If you use operamini here is the cab:
http://www.4shared.com/file/DM-6KS5d/mini5wm.html
- I made several customizations that I hope you like them
How to install:
- Flash this ROM as usual
- Reboot your phone
- If this rom becomes slow and you can not open the CommManager or homsettings then install this cab in the phone memory:
http://www.4shared.com/file/fndT0s2N/fp7_ppc_en.html
- Apply the Acid Green theme in homesettings, I created it for this rom.
- If you like manila now you can install it and then restart the phone

thanks dear Pajerm
will try it
I downloaded the ROM and have loaded it and my first impression is that it is a very fast, smooth ROM. Of course it is overclocked so that could help a little bit too.
I did have a problem getting the volume buttons to work and having it slow down and freeze when trying to get into the CommManager but after installing this that all went away.

In configuration screen after flashing you can not set the correct time zone because I removed scrollbars.... however you can set it later...
i prefer m2d v1.2, can i use that with your rom??
yes you can..
Bluetooth working, SMS from manila isn't

You are right, the icon isn't there but it does appear to be syncing up with my headset.
One thing I have found is that with M2D v1.2 that I can't create a text message from the M2D shortcut. But if I go through the start menu to Messaging and then create a new text message it seems to work fine. Sorry, I did have M2D v2.0 loaded first but never tried texting from it before I hard reset and then loaded M2D v1.2.
Am typing this out as the ROM boots for the first time, have to say its off to an imressive start, the boot animation is sweet, super fast ROM!! The stock keyboard seems ever so slightly larger. makes typing very much easier, though i think there is a small glitch in the messaging section. the msgs dont get saved in the right order and instead of showing the time of recieving the msg it only shows the date. Tis' true that there is no notification of the bluetooth running but it does connect succesfully. Part from these minor issues this ROM is beautiful and can say without hesitation that this is one of the BEST ROMs i have ever used, will test battery life etc (bugs as well, if i can find any that is.)
Request you to make these changes ASAP, and there would be nothing better.
1) change the volume adjust style to that of stock (non-windowed type).
2) the volume adjustment bar and other such bars are extremely small and hard to use. Would be nice if you could increase the size.
If the problems cannot be addressed right away would be very kind of you to tell us how to resolve this problem ourselves, and i do hope i was clear enough to get my points out clearly.

I just hard reset the phone and then reloaded Manila v2.0 and I can't create a text message through M2D with it either. So it appears that it could be the same issue with both versions of M2D.
I do remember a problem like this happening with another ROM too. I'll try and take a look around the forum and see if I can find it and if they came up with a solution.

Thank you for testing my rom! I think that the messaging problem can be solved by setting the correct date and time...
Next rom will have htc volume control and a lot of other customizations that you never see in any rom...
HAPPY..

Iswear this was a better rom than jagans...not trying to dissapoint any1,but i have found some problems so went back to the stock...well,the volume is a problem...but still,i liked the rom...
Test Drive
Today was first day of the test drive, noticed a few glitches.
1) clockspeed drops to 186MHz after a while, not sure as to y it drops
2) Manila (the one you included) has problems in the music section, continues to search and search.
3) Windows Media Player is unable to handle 320kbps audio easily. (Just skips tracks)
4) Not having the scroll bar i thought was a good idea but i did notice that some apps become hard to use such as OMAPclock itself (It uses a sideways scroll bar, i think and not having the scroll bar leaves us unable change clock speed manually,
5) Battery gets consumed really really fast, (its not a side affect of the overclocking). Only while the screen is running.
6) On install of Ezinput, the ROM has to be restarted but it hangs in the Primary Splash screen itself.
7) Realised mp4 is not supprted. (This isnt a glitch and not sure if it really does need to be include, this should depend on demand.)
btw, amazing boot speed!!!
As far as the Manila "Music" Tab goes, this cab file should help. Something i downloaded a while back right here at xda
Am amazed at your working speed. hats off to you.
you rom is good, but I can't use this. internet and Camera can't
star!!!!!!!!!!!!
