I have a Sprint Vogue with a NFS rom (foget which one). Now I can tether on my desktop pc with WinXP. And my laptop also has WinXP and it also connects to the internet through usb tetheting. However, after a short while the computer will lock up the data transfer and nothing responds. Once I disconnect my phone, everything then responds.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
How do I delete the drivers for my phone so I can reinstall them?

Hey, I have a Mogul through sprint and actually pay the $40 a month for the PAM feature. It works great most of the time by USB tether, which I prefer because it keeps the phone charged. My problem is that after a random amount of time, sometimes a few minutes, sometimes an hour or so, the connection no longer sends or receives packets. the phone still reads connected, but the vista network connection status screen says (not responding) in the title bar. I've made sure my NDIS driver is up to date, and I've searched for other people who might have had the same problem, but all I can find are people troubleshooting methods to avoid paying for PAM. WMWifi and pdanet and stuff are great, but i need a hand with the legit PAM if anyone has any experience with it. (Oh, and my phone is running 2.17 rom and 1.47 radio that came on it)
Ok, so it seems to be that when I plug in the usb cable, even if I've already started the phone as modem connection, ActiveSync still starts, and vista doesn't always seem to give the pam connection priority. Is there any way to disable auto-start of activesync on the device? there is no activesync on vista, its their windows mobile device center junk and it has no options or preferences at all.

I think there's an option where you can disallow USB connections. I'd try that. I've been using PAM on vista since we figured out how to beat the tethering charges using the reg hack with no problems. I have noticed that activesync tries to connect to it though, and usually what I do is have an active connection first, plug it in while I'm hitting connect and it usually works fine. You might try that too.
Good luck!
BTW, you might try updating your ROM to one of DCD's releases...they work much better than the stock rom IMO.
I have found out via trial and error, when you liberate Shift, the automated process of modem connecting via Snapview to Vista becomes a manual process.
I do keep USB Tool always attached, however, when you place Shift in hibernation mode, the Internet Sharing disconnects.
Is there any way to automate the process that Internet Shaing could be always connected or automatically connect when Vista comes back up?
I don't have this problem
Are you 100% sure ?
My liberated and not-liberated version of WinMo always pass the internet through to Vista, HOWEVER, one must observe some patience...
If I boot Vista cold, when booted, it will take another 1-2 minutes from 3G to work, without doing anything to the machine.
If you get impatient, like I did, nothing seems to work well, if you kill the modem, and re-enable it, it might work, it might not
I just wait and it always work(ed) With old Vista driver pack, and with new, liberated or not... it's always around 90 seconds after resuming from hiberantion, or cold boot.

My experience is that, after hybernate or sleep state, sometimes there's a USB error and when my SD card is not recognized correctly (USB problem) the sharing bridge to 3g connection (bridge between winmo and vista) stops working also. So if my device doesn't recognize the SD card correctly I hve to reboot to have 3g availability.
My firm just upgraded my notebook to Vista Enterprise 32-bit (against my wishes!). My Mogul is running the most recent Sprint/HTC-supplied ROM, 3.56.651.0. Under XP, I had no problem tethering using the built-in WM "Internet Sharing" app over USB.
Under Vista, no joy.
I've tried a thousand things. I've downloaded the most recent version of WMDC. After disabling "Enable advanced network functionality" in Connections -> USB to PC, I was able to get WMDC to see the device, xfer files, sync, etc. But still no joy on tethering.
The steps I'm following (that worked on XP):
(1) on the device, I fire up Internet Sharing, select USB, and hit Connect; the phone connects to Sprint's Phone as Modem service (which I'm paying for) fine.
(2) I plug the device into notebook via USB cable
(3) the notebook complains "Windows needs to install driver for your Generic RNDIS" and offers "Locate and install driver software (recommended), "Ask me again later", or "Don't show...". I select "Locate and Install..."
(4) the notebook says it's installing the driver, but then complains:
=======
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device
A device attached to the system is not functioning.
=======
and then the driver install windows complains:
=======
Device driver software was not successfully installed
Please consult with your device ...
Generic RNDIS Failed
=======
Has anyone gotten _THIS COMBINATION_ (i.e., Vista on the computer, plus a Sprint Mogul running ROM 3.56.651.0) to work? I'm at my wits end.
Thanks!

A quick [non]update, if you're having this problem too... No joy from hours of internet searching and posting on other boards.

my search continues also
i use wmwifirouter to tether via usb/wifi, so i guess you could try that. But i don't think it'll make a difference.
For a while, my vista ultimate wouldn't detect my phone via activesync, i did a repair on it and it fixed. It could probably be the usb driver problems.
I also installed windows 7 to play around, the usb tether worked on that also
I discovered a short while ago that the Media Net was needed in the drop down under Network Connections on the Internet sharing app.
Not sure if ya still looking for a fix but in vista you have to download/install Windows Mobile Device Center then plug your phone and wait for it to detect it. Once the sync is set up disconnect and boot up the internet sharing hit connect then hook up the usb cable. BTW using internet sharing with vista sucks ass cause it randomly connects and disconnects.
I have been using "Wireless Router" for a year and a half now on my XP desktop. It works great, now I have just purchased a laptop w/ Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I get an issue with drivers too.
I have WMDC installed but the system will not recognize my Mogul 6800 as a modem.
If anyone has an idea of were to get the driver or knows any other parameter settings we would appreciate it. I also will update my finds as I search.
BTW, Wireless Modem has a non detection feature if your are interested.
Ok, so I've had issues with vista and pam before, but I have a new one, that I can't find anything about on google, on here, or anywhere else so far. I have a laptop with vista 64 home premium that I can PAM with mogul's ICS using my phone or my wife's (both are on the unlimited PAM plan.) My wife's laptop runs vista 32 home premium, and both of our phones have an identical issue when trying to tether with it, meaning its not an issue with the phones. When connecting to PAM on her laptop, 7/10 time, it will go through the steps, and when the vista networking gets done with identifying, pulling an IP from the phone ICS, and checking for connectivity (which vista does by pinging a server by domain name to determine that the DNS is working in addition to the network being open) it will be up for a split second, then disconnect. Sometimes it will disconnect after Identifying, but before making the connectivity check. The rest of the time, it connects and works fine. We have tested other cables, and recently I tested it under safe mode with networking, and made my first progress.
Under Safe mode with networking, it will connect perfectly every time. The hard part now, is I do not know what program or device conflict could be causing it to disconnect immediately after completing connection. Has anyone had this issue and found any other programs or hardware to interfere?
I haven't had this proble in specific but I did have a problem with using ICS in vista to let my PS3 go online via my laptop using the mogule as my internet connection, in one instant it actually gave me the blue screen of death. I have to say that with Ubuntu and Vista the best way to use the phone as modem is to run ICS (on the phone) and hit connect (I'm speaking about the usb method) the phone will say check cable or something and then hook the cable up. This way has eliminated the quick disconnect witch i experience in Ubuntu a few times.
Hope this help
I've never had the need to use WMWifiRouter as a 3G to USB connection, but my modem at home is dead and won't be replaced until Tuesday. 3 days is quite a ways to go without Internet! So, I used WMWifiRouter 1.51 to enable the 3G to USB connection for my desktop PC.
After I was done with the 'net, I turned off WMWifiRouter and unplugged my phone. I then realized I needed to upload a few things on my phone, so I plug it back in to use it as a storage device. Problem is, my computer immediately detects my phone as a tether rather than the storage device. I've enabled the option so my phone asks me what type of connection it wants to create, but my computer keeps forcing the tether instead.
I know it's the way my computer is seeing my Touch Pro 2, but I was hoping somebody else may have run into the same issue before and found a resolution.
Thanks in advance!
I just used WM last night as a test, and then finally sync'd up my outlook 2000 contacts and calendar today.
Are you absolutely sure that WM has stopped running? I know on my diamond, the task manager option would NOT show some running apps after it was running without a soft reboot for like 2 months.
I haven't tried a "storage connect" yet though, I don't think I've ever used that.
I am absolutely positive it has stopped running completely. I used the built-in task manager with SKTools to verify. Even after a soft reset on my phone, my computer still does it.
Like I said, I know it's just the way my computer is now detecting my phone, but I was hoping somebody here had the same problem in the past.
I find it a little funny... I used my phone as a temporary solution to not having internet at home and now it only leads to more problems
Try uninstalling the drivers that your computer installed for the TP2, it would be in the Control Panel->Device Manager . Honestly i have no clue which one they would be but by doing this your computer will have to reinstall the USB drivers for your phone and re-recognize your phone.
Tried it. My computer installed it as a modem, but uninstalling the drivers didn't help. My comptuer would still detect it every time and reinstall the modem drivers.
Hard resetting my phone fixed this. It's the worst solution, yes, but it still worked. Fortunately, it only takes about 20 minutes to get everything back in order once more.
Thanks for the help anyways.
UPDATE: Ran into the same problem again last night. Fortunately, I found a better solution.
I made the USB to PC connection automatically connect to ActiveSync and disabled "Enable faster data synchonization." Disconnected and reconnected my phone and I was able to use the Disk Drive option once more without having my PC automatically see it as a Windows Mobile Modem
