Hello.
My Wizard (8125) will load fine some times, but most of the time it just shows lines down the screen, mostly blue, some darker than others.. You can't make anything out. It will work fine other than the screen.. and sometimes I will turn the screen off and back on and it will display perfectly fine. The screen connections are fine, they aren't loose. I have had the phone apart several times, and always make sure everything is good before I put it back together. It started doing this after the last time I gave it a bath in the dish water. I bought a new battery, and it booted up fine.. but now gives me this problem again. I can't figure it out.. I'm about ready to retire it.
Oh, I also replaced the screen with a spare.
EDIT: I have wm6 and TNT on it...

Hi homelessduck,
Did you said you let your phone fall on water?
That hurts x.x
Does the phone work? Can you receive calls, SMS, etc, apart from being unable to see anything? Or nothing works?
If you can "use" it, then I guess your LCD may be goin' down, or some video controller. Would be good to take your screen off and put on another Wizard, if you have that possibility.
Good luck man,
Cheers
Everything works. The screen works , but if I let the battery get too low the screen gets screwed up and you can't see anything. So I have to wait, and it randomly fixes itself. I have submerged it several times, and it has flown across parking lots, my house, etc. multiple times. I think it may be time to retire it.. but every time I start to, it starts working again..lol.

Lets say I am sick and tired of my 8525 turning off on it's on randomly during the day and I have loaded 10 different roms all the way back to the stock one, I have ran it with NO aftermarket programs, I have replaced the battery, and I have added support to the sim card to make sure it isn't losing contact and still the phone turns off randomly on it's on.
Sometimes I have noticed that it will turn itself off if I slide the keyboard out (maybe 3 times out of 100 turn offs), but 97% of the time it will do it on it's on sitting on the desk untouched.
If I was going to take my phone apart, is there any ideas or general consensus to what parts might be causing the phone to turn itself off? Should I get a new sim card maybe?
Really sick and tired of my buddy with an Iphone throwing this bug in my face telling me what crap HTC is as well as missing calls.
If the phone is turning all the way off, over and over, then send it in for a replacement. If you mean the screen is just turing off after a certain amount of time, you can adjust that under: "Settings->System (tab)->Power->Advanced->then uncheck Turn off device if not used for x minutes. See if that helps, or maybe its just ur phone and you need a replacement. I sent mine in to ATT and got one back after my screen stopped turning on"white screen of death", heh. So it could just be a hardware issue that you cannot really solve urself...
The phone is turning all the way off on it's on. I have to boot it back up like I had just installed a battery or something.
I am out of warranty and do not want to pay for a refurbished phone since this is my third phone from them during the warranty already (and this ones been the best till now). I would rather someone tell me the board/part and I take it apart and fix it myself. I have the tools, the instruction manual in PDF someone posted a while back, a website with almost every internal part for sale, and experience taking small devices apart (ipods and such) and replacing items, I just want to know if anyone knew of which part could most likely be the part causing something like this before I start replacing things blindly. I plan to go ahead and take it apart and check ribbon cables since I want to replace the whole housing anyway.
Unfortunately, my D900 has the same problem with yours, it turned off when i just sending messages or just touching the screen, and my replacement battery is already on the flight, when i get it, i will test it again. Hopeful, i can get a sweat result~~
Mine doesn't seem to do it when it is in use. I have had to get in the habbit of looking at the LED on the phone to make sure it is still turned on. Gets real annoying trying to say the Iphone isn't all that people think, but then have this little problem and the fact I am on my third HTC product in the year time frame. But the others died within 30 days, this one has lasted 10 months thats why I want to keep it.
Well I think I figured it out. I took it apart and it looks like the black box that has the battery connectors to it and is soldered to the main board has broken loose. I am trying to fix it, but does anyone know how much the main board is if I need to replace it?
ok so what happened was is that i dropped my phone although when i looked at it it seemed fine, not even a scratch, calling worked...but a couple of hours later i got no signal in this place although my dad had signal and we're on the same network and we have the same phone too. I received signal as soon as I left the place.
And here is where my problem comes, everything was working fine and i had my phone in my pocket for the whole day cause i was at school and after school i decided to take a look at the time, but my phone was off and wouldn't turn on, but i expected that it ran out of battery.
I got home and tried charging it, but nothing happened, so i decided to use my dad's battery (fully charged) it still wouldn't turn on, i've tried soft/hard resets still nothing.
can it be the hardware? what is broken? it won't turn on/won't charge/no led lights/no red led when charging without battery/ nothing so what is wrong please help.
Probably battery contacts... If you can see a crack, you might be able to resolder them and fix however the Hermes uses a multi layered board and if the break is there then you need a new mainboard, in a few words, your Hermes is toast....
is there any possible fix? if the board is broken, where can i get a replacement and instruction on how to fix? thanks :]
Find an old Hermes on ebay. If the screen doesn't work or something, DON'T get one with "No GSM", then you should be able to replace the Mainboard.
Find the HTC Service Manual here - http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1
You need a size 6 torque key and a small flatbladed screwdriver to get the Mainboard. Pretty easy, I've taken my Hermes apart more times than I can count.
Cheers...
thanks for the help so far :]
but is there a site that just sells the part? cause i really don't want to end up buying a mainboard on ebay that ends up not working too.
My friend asked me to take a look at her phone for her and its got me stumped. Basically it was in her purse, it dropped off the car seat onto the floor of the car, and that was it. When she took it out of her purse to check for messages she turned it on, all she got was a jagged line across the screen. She did a soft reset, and that was the end of it. Now it won't turn on. The only sign that it once had life is the glorious red light that goes solid when its plugged in. Sometimes it stays solid, other times it goes off after a few seconds or minutes.
I've tried that battery in my phone, and my battery in her phone and mine still works and hers still doesn't.
I understand that its probably a brick but are there any last ditch efforts I can try to either verify its toast, or that it still might be salvageable?
Thanks
It may be that something just got knocked loose when the phone dropped.
Check out this thread here - I have read several threads where different members were complaining of similar sounding problem -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476152
This seemed to work for many people - Keep in mind this thread is for ELf and I am unfamiliar with the insides of the Vogue - however if you open it up and try something similar it might just work. Good luck.

Hey thanks for the idea. I just tried that putting a piece of plastic behind each of the metal guards and it doesn't appear that it did anything. It certainly makes sense for that to be the problem, but...no dice.
will it hook up to active sync?
Nope. The ONLY sign that was designed to ever work is the solid red light that comes on when its plugged in.
Hey.
I'm wondering if someone can lend me a hand here. I was rock climbing last weekend, left my phone in my jacket pocket, and I suspect someone may have stepped on / thrown my jacket.
In any case... it's not working right now. It doesn't start up, and there's no light when I plug it into the USB/wall chargers. Any hints on whether this thing is totally trashed? The phone was in its case the whole time, and its exterior looks completely undamaged as far as I can tell, with no scratches, etc. Another possibility is that it got rained on, but I highly doubt that the water penetrated the outside of the phone (especially given that it was in the case the whole time).
If anyone can help me getting my phone working again I would be eternally grateful.
you're kidding me,right? your phone doesn't start,no led comes on when you plug it in,and you want someone to tell you if it's trashed? did you check that the battery is properly seated?
hey whats going on? Heres what I suggest, take it to the tmobile store and tell them that the phone was charging and it started acting funky so you turned it off, and than it never came back on. From there they will switch out your battery, than if that dosent work they will just give you a new phone right there in the store. Long as no water damage which i dought it does. Just do that and you will be ok, I have done that many of times lol.
>did you check that the battery is properly seated?
Yes. I also wiped the contacts on the battery and the device.

Unfortunately it isn't quite that simple for me. I live in Canada; I purchased this phone several months ago basically new off eBay (it was used for a couple of weeks). Funnily enough, my iPod which was "naked" in the same pocket as my phone is also undamaged and continues to function normally. Are there any tests I can do to better determine the location of the problem?

You're gonna need some technical know how. Open the phone and check the mobo for any disconnected cable and/or water damage. There is really nothing you can do that you haven't already done from the outside of the phone. If possible, find a local repair shop and have them take a look at it.
Update: so basically I took out the battery, waited a day or so, put it back in, and all the buttons lit up on the phone (but the LCD remained blank and so did the charging light).
Took the battery back out, waited another day, put it back in, and the phone suddenly turned on and has been working fine since. Anyway, thank you everyone for your help.
Hi,
I have a DVP 16 GB. It's been 1 year. A few days back it got wet in the rain. When I took it out of my leather case, the back button and search button lights were on and the camera was continuously blinking. I took apart everything and dried it in a bowl of uncooked rice. After that, it was working fine. No problems. Then suddenly from yesterday, it has started to act very weirdly. Whenever I switch it on, it works for a few seconds and then freezes. If I lock it, it freezes. But it remains switched on. The touch just doesn't seem to work. I have even hard reset it but to no avail.
At times, it works, i.e., after a few shut downs and reboots, but very slowly. The touch takes ages to respond. Please help.

Sorry can't really help man. But what it's worth, I haven't read anything like that appearing on the DVP, so it might not be a usual failure on this phone and rather related to the swim it took? If you grab a parts DVP off ebay, maybe you can swap parts until you isolate the prob... at least you might be able to find a cracked screen phone and place your screen on that puppy? Good luck. Phone probs suck :crying:
