I have a mytouch 3g.
Rooted
Cyanogen 4.1.9999
radio: 2.22.19.26I
I hear and have read plenty that formating to a ext3 or ext4 partition will help the apps2sd. I know us MyTouch users don't worry much about Apps2SD because we have lotsa room compared to G1.
So i notice that my phone lags a little when you come out of sleep... lags when you move between desktop screens, and lags when you initially pull up the tool bar...
So my question is, Will formatting my memory card (class 6) from FAT32 => ext3 or ext4 increase the performance of the MT3G? Or will it not matter and formatting the memory card to ext3/ext4 is ONLY for Apps2SD without any performance gain?
I tried Cyanogen 4.1.9999 this week and also found it laggy. The scrolling was more jerky than it should be and I was getting home screen reloads after a few hours of use.
CyanogenMod is a good rom with loads of features but in my experience seems to need some tweaking to get it running smoothly, i.e. through editing the userinit.sh and user.conf to adjust your swap and compcache settings. These files are read automatically if you have an ext partition and store them in the correct place ... this means with the ext partition you will also be using apps2sd ... this isn't necessary but isn't such a terrible thing if you have a class 6 sd card.
I've found better speed/performance from roms designed for the MyTouch/Magic 32B rather than roms designed for both Dream and MyTouch/Magic 32B.
Just my 2 cents!
i notice the home screen reload as well, but this isn't a CM bug thread... SO...
what rom works fastest/stable for you?
Im on 32b CM 4.1.9999

looking the way to speed it up as well. mine 32b version. lower ram than 32a unfortunly.
right now im on Banana Bread v3.1 ROM android 2.3.7 .after installin some apps slowin down.makin me crazy. after mt4g slide experience. gotta kill runing services to avoid long reply. showin now 22Mb/109Mb (memory avail/total).
try also Ginger Yoshi 1.5. same problem like in BananaBread. not enough ram to make reply fast.
recovery amon ra 1.7.0.
to install that roms need to have SPL 1.33.0013d and RADIO 2.22.28.25
gotta look till i have that monster phone

by the way, rom that cooked well will give a gud performance to ur cell
best roms so far
the fastest roms ive come across so far are these..FroyoDragon
v0.8......Froyo Cream Sandwich......and FroyobyLaszlo, my favorite is froyodragon though. all very fast roms. no lag for me whatsoever.
CM isn't made for speed, more for features
As stated above try FroyoDragon
Yoshi Rom was pretty fast for me when I had this phone.

is it because i have a class 2 memory card?
it lags and i get the htc screen alot after i exit from an app.
if i get a class 6, will the phone run as smooth as it did with the stock rom on there?
Which ROM are you using? Could be something else.
If you are rocking a class 2 card, you might want to not use the Apps2SD feature of rooted roms, you have plenty of space on the phone.
When I first rooted my MT3G I wasnt using the SD card for apps and it ran so much faster on the Cyanogen ROM than on the stock ROM.
im using the one click method. im fairly new to the whole rooting stuff, so im not to savvy just yet.
i believe it runs off the memory card if im not mistaken
Be mindful.

If you utilized the One-Click Root Method (correctly) you shouldn't have immediately run into any issues. In fact, if you played it safe and flashed a Cyanogen ROM - hopefully stable at first...then you should be in great shape. Obviously, since that doesn't appear to be the case. Consider this:
- Upgrading your card to a Class 6, the rewrite speeds exceed that of the standard Class 2 and 4 cards.
- Wipe, re-flash, and install your applications to a reformatted SD card.
- If your card isn't partitioned to some extent, might I suggest that you search a tutorial on HOW-TO (one you can fully understand) partition the card properly.
- Always, always, always...NANDROID backup a fully functional ROM - just in case you should ever encounter a problem.

if you are running hero, it will be slow... if you want a fast rom for the mytouch, try cyanogen or jacxrom
How do I disable the apps2sd feature? I'm running cyanogen 4.0.4 if that makes a difference
if you dont have linux ext partitions in the sd card, it wont do it.
I am a complete noob when it comes to phones, but i did manage to root my MyTouch3g using the tutorial from Unlockrz.com...anyways, i loaded up the dwang-1.12 ROM, and it is working quite fine. Waaaay faster than before. Now i have some questions though. I've seen lots of people talk about using apps like swapper or DroidSwap in order to speed up phone by using memory from their sd cards? idk if i got that correctly, but anyways, i would like a step by step explanation on how to use this feature. Thank you.
Also, another quick question, how do i know if my ROM is the latest version? i assume the phone doesnt check for itself, so any ideas where to check/get the updates? and would i have to delete everything on the phone? any help is much appreciated.
If you did it by the tutorial at Unlockr.com, then you should have the amon_ra recovery image already. What you will want to do is go to "Partition sd card", then partition your sd card. It'll ask you to set the swap, ext (which you won't really need unless you use ROMs like superD where app2sd is automatically set). By setting swap on your phone via recovery image, certain ROMs will detect your swap right away and use it, again like superD.
I don't know about dwang since I have never used it myself. However, maybe you should look into flashing other ROMs that are used for G1. Since you have a MT3G, you will be able to flash almost all ROMs that are made for the G1. The only bad part is that some ROMs use app2sd when MT3G users have enough internal memory to have a lot of apps on board without app2sd.
Also, MT3G users do not require DangerSPL when flashing G1 ROMs even with sense, eclair, or some other ROMs that require it. With that in mind, try the latest superD ROM which is posted on the G1 Development section or maybe cyanogenmod 5? Very popular these days introducing a new era for G1/MT3G with 2.1!
You may also use swapper from the market, and it'll automatically set it up for you if you select "swap on" from swapper. But I recommend partitioning regardless because with swapper, every time you boot, you have to apply it again.
hello, i hope my thread didnt post somewhere else.
so, i am using hs2 and i installed android 2.2 yesterday and i installed 8 apps on it. everything is working perfect until i installed google eath. i run it and it says that i dont have enough space and it close.. i also remove many apps and i only have 50mb internal memory only. how do i clean android because i wanna install more apps soon!
also how many mb internal memory hd2 has?
is android installed on internal memory of my hd2 thats why its running low now??
thanks i hope to get what am looking for

Which NAND build are you using? Perhaps it supports A2SD, A2SD+, data2ext, data2sd, if it does one of those, partitioning your MicroSD card and formatting the partition in ext2/ext3/ext4 will give you more space to install applications.

how do i partition my sd? how do i format to ext...
i got 512rom btw uk one
thanks
This is the downside of using NAND rom, the internal memory is very low. My phone is showing about 120 MB available and still I permanent have the icon telling me low disk space.
So there is a solution and that is to partition the sd card? Are there any instructions for this available so it becames part of the OS?. I have searched but could not seem to find the proper thread.
BTW I am using the "desire stock rom":
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893620
Have a look at this one. Especially the instructions.
Or search the NAND Forum Titles for App2SD, Data2EXT, ext4, data.img or something like that.

I am not going to explain what it is, but instead, I am gonna tell you what to look at. When choosing a ROM.
Example1:
[15 JAN] -=MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.4 [A2SD+][GRH78][RMNET][Kernel: MDJ S10.4 OC]
See the wonderful [A2SD+] that means it uses A2SD+
Example2:
[16 JAN][DAF][ZIP] RAFDROID HD 2.2 [DATA2EXT][Kern:MDJ 10.3][RMNET][UPDATED!]
This uses data2ext
Example3:
[30 DEC][DFT]LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM
This doesn't use anything, so you are screwed... you run out of space, that's it, SCREWED.
I highly recommend that you read this, and understand what it says.
[10 JAN][RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery for HD2 - v1.2
Because Clockwork makes things really easy for noobs, if you want to call yourself that. It is also used in every Android Devices that I know of, including the Real HTC DesireHD, Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Nexus S, HTC Desire, and many more. HD2 users prefer people to do everything for them and package everything neatly, then complain about having to wipe everything away each update.
** [GUIDE] How to format SD-Card to EXT 3 **
bakskj, so yah, you have 120MB left. So unless you know how to put A2SD, A2SD+ or data2sd or data2ext into the ROM you are using now, pretty much, use that 120MB sparingly, that's all you will have.

whats the difference between these 3 roms? more available internal space?
thankss
Urm, it's hard to say what is the best. I guess look at the screen shot and choose the one that looks the most pleasing?
But you know what, now that you are starting again,
[10 JAN][RECOVERY] ClockworkMod Recovery for HD2 - v1.2
READ THAT... USE THAT...
Then choose a ROM that says CLOCKWORK
-=DOWNLOAD v. 2.4 A2SD+ NAND Clockwork Mod=-
Like that. This way, if you have a small little fix, you don't have to reflash the whole rom, some nice guy/girl might already post up the fix in a nice zip file that you can use clockwork to install.

flashed on nand the original desire android on my hd2. its 2.2ver and i cant save app on sd card. the other 2 ver are 2.3 android right? the last one?
PLEASE NOTE:
There are down sides to using app2sd and data on sd.... Namely you cannot mount the SD Card via usb.
The single best option for having a stable, low maintenance build is projections Stock desire, which has some squashing to reduce the space. HD builds are all flawed for 512mb users because of the size. You either have no space, or you cannot mount your sd card.
Based on that I would always go for a stock desire/evo based build, which give full functionality, but with ~180mb free space. Everybody is so quick to ask for data on sd.... but the corruption factor that is still there, combined with the inability to mount the drive, makes it a no go for many people who are starting out, and will be back on here in a few days asking why they are getting force closes, or why they cannot access SD card via usb.
Good comments

First off thanks for the informative replies. I think I'm gonna go for a partitioned one because more space is essential for me.
What i do want to know is. Is there a fix for those eventual crashes and what not? And if they are really to annoying. Because nothing beats stability.
hi everyone
I am new to android and I am trying to understand android from starting and what I wonder
when we use magdlr do we lost last 24 mb of our storage?( if yes i am sad abt it as leo eu user)( any rom supports last 24 mb of nand? )
which rom is good to use froyo or ginger ? ( i read that ginger has some problems with gps and fm radio )
thanks for help
I wouldn't think of it as 'losing' 24 mb of memory, its more like it's just unusable. In MAGLDR, you have the option to unlock those 24 mb, but it is advised against as it could potentially corrupt the internal memory. Having a EU HD2, you should look into partitioning your sd card with an ext4 partition and using DarkTremor's A2SD script, putting all your apps to the sd card makes a huge difference. Out of 750mb internal storage, I have 650mb left, with hundreds of apps installed thanks to DT's A2sd and a 1gb ext4 partition. Just don't use one of the beta scripts, go for an older, stable one.
As far as stability and speed, 2.3 beats 2.2. If you're looking for something fast and stable, try a CyanogenMod ROM (CM7 is 2.3 GingerBread, CM6 is Froyo)
As far as I can tell, the MIUI FM Radio app works on the ROM in my sig, it loads up, but requires bluetooth to work (dunno why??) and I can confirm wifi and gps works too.
With just about any NAND build, you'll have visit AngelDeath's gps thread to decrease lock times, as gps is slower with Android than with WinMo. But with proper gps.conf, you can get cold lock in around a minute.

Hi,
Today I've been busy trying to flash NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 from Tytung.
After screwing around a bit I finaly got it to work. All apps and feature's seem to be working.
However the overall system speed is much much slower then I think it should be.
These are the steps I did:
1. Performed a task29.
2. Reinstalled MLGDR 1.3
3. Reinstalled the latest CWM 5.0.2.6 with a 300mb partition.
4. Flashed the tytung_jellybean_r1 kernel.
5. Flashed the NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 rom.
6. I used the NAND with DataOnEXT option.
7. Reboot succesfull and rom started up (Fairly slow).
I have a HTC HD2 (LEO512).
With a 16g level 4 sd card.
I couldn't realy find a step by step guide anywhere so if someone could be so kind to make a list like this it would surely help out alot of people.
Thank you for reading and I hope for a responce soon,
ciao im italian
hi
impotant that you have an ext4 primary partition in sdcard.do you have this one? if not, you have possibility make a backup of your sdcard in pc because for to create partition ,the sistem delete all data of your sd card. after,in recovery,in advanced, partition, you chooise swap 0 and next chooise is 1/2 giga byte(i chooise 4gb 4tobe sure).after you follow the istruction below.
you must to have 300mb of partition with hd2toolkit or other but into aroma istaller you must to chooise a full istallation(important)
and you dont flash any kernel because it is into rom
ps: ...good luck
Your installation method is fine. When you say that the overall speed is slower than it should be, are there any specific areas you can point out? In general in ICS and above ROMS the system uses more RAM which can slow things down due to a lack of RAM. I personally feel this is a small sacrifice to pay for the improvements in gaming and web browsing, as well as the overhauled UI. You may also be overestimating the HD2. You have to remember that it's getting very old now and the hardware just isn't considered even remotely powerful anymore.

I've had indeed forgotten to partition my sd the right way.
Here are the steps I did for people that want to know.
1. Performed a task29.
2. Reinstalled MLGDR 1.3
3. Reinstalled the latest CWM 5.0.2.6 with a 300mb partition.
4. Partitioned a FAT32 primary partition with 32KB cluster size, then an EXT4 primary partition with default cluster size.
5. Flashed the tytung_jellybean_r1 kernel.
6. Flashed the NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 rom.
7. I used the NAND with DataOnEXT option.
8. Reboot.
The rom works fine and the overal speed is okay considering the HD2 hardware.
Thank you for the reactions and thank Tytung for this amazing rom !
very nice
have fun with this rom!!!!!!
The rom is a bit slow anyway, HD2 is not new phone... but nice and recent rom, so it is a choice beetween old and fast or new and slow.
AFAIK, it's a kernel issue. JB kernels do not support HWA yet.
They are working on it.
I have tried to install this rom and also paranoid 2.54 following all these steps but I have a problem. When I try to connect to the internet using wifi a storm of popups with unfortunately all the time comes up until I reboot my hd2 and close my wifi connection. Is there any solution?

Follow the guide in my sig, it's very detailed and you shouldn't really need a video. Don't bother Task29ing either, that's a bad habit and is really completely unnecessary.

Download the HD2 Tool Kit - you can perform a Task 29, install MAGLDR and Clockwork Recovery all from this software to include custom repartitioning based on rom requirements. I installed NexusHD2 4.1.2 to NAND on my device...all the NexusHD2 ROMs have been excellent as well as NRGZ28's EnergyROM for Android which to date is my favorite but I can't resist the latest ROMs and compare it to my stepson's Galaxy S3 device and I updating it manually to 4.1.1 stock. After you do this a few times; the routine becomes pretty automatic.

It depends on the task, higher class cards are only significantly better when transferring files:
Cotulla said:
Operating System is often using small block transfers - 512 and 4K. 4K is ARM page size.
It's why important to do fast transfers with that size. As well sometimes overall operations before and after tranfer can take more time than data transfer itself.
Usually high class cards provide better linear speed, but it's only used when user write big files, like movies or pictures.

There's not much point wasting money on a high class card when a class 2 or 4 will normally do just fine.
