What we should do with low internal memory? step back to sd? :(

first off all I should thanks all developers of hd2 andriod who are the reason that we are always excited with our Hd2.
After Refreshing xda site for every 3 hours to see the nand release I finally managed to get the news...
After installing the nand version I was so excited speed was great battery life superb and extremely stable
so I have started migrating from my ram version to nand version
Soon I was installing my apps from market until I reached an error that I've never seen before "LOW MEMORY " I was shocked I checked the space and saw I only had 1 mb free space
I searched the forum and found out that some users has 100mb while some had 600mb free after installation, I thought it might be my and other mistakes which led to 100mb but after reading more I've found all 512mb rom HD2 will have 100mb free internal memory after installation
So if its gonna be like that I think I should step back to SD version only coz of internal memory,
I wanna know your suggestions.. or solution? Ive already tried moving some apps to sd but guys.... not all of them have the ability....

well hope the Devs will get EURO HD2 owners a ext4 partition on SD that will act as internal memory... i guess its being thought about.
in the meanwhile use apps like move2sd to install apps to SD...

I think that this thread is not for boasting about your Leo1024, but it rather raises an important issue. While ROMs from NAND are a big step ahead, running out of space is a serious problem, especially today, when apps can take about 20-30 mb (i.e. Opera Mobile 10, Firefox 4 with cache).
I see three possible solutions to this problem:
- using native froyo apps2fat, while being problematic, it's simple and available out of the box
- wait for developers to allow us to use data.img on our SD Card, like in good old SD Card builds
- or use apps2ext like all other Android users do (when it'll be possible).

Just down the App 2 SD app off market and move all the apps you downloaded to sd and that should free up your internal memory

Has anyone done this before?

I am getting the same problem... I hope a solution for this comes up fast.... nbot able to install any games....

I am using MDJ Gingerbread NAND Rom, and the solution I found was to move apps to SD using Titanium Backup paid app. Worth the price, trust me.

216 mb of free space for me to, with the exact same ROM.

this has been an issue since back in the days of the G1, not enough internal memory, this is why a lot of the newer android devices come with a bigger internal memory, apps2sd will solve the problem, so you can install apps on the sd card instead of the internal memory. You need to add it before you start to install apps to keep the internal memory at max.

I went into the system folder and deleted stuff i didnt need like ringtones, alarms, notifications, wallpapers. Left me with some amount of space but yeah, the real solution are apps that move apps to sd.

You guys are in luck. Takaaki has posted a test build he made for himself that can store the data on the sd card. You can even use your old hd2one data.img if you have used it before.

low internal memory HELP

hello, i hope my thread didnt post somewhere else.
so, i am using hs2 and i installed android 2.2 yesterday and i installed 8 apps on it. everything is working perfect until i installed google eath. i run it and it says that i dont have enough space and it close.. i also remove many apps and i only have 50mb internal memory only. how do i clean android because i wanna install more apps soon!
also how many mb internal memory hd2 has?
is android installed on internal memory of my hd2 thats why its running low now??

Which NAND build are you using? Perhaps it supports A2SD, A2SD+, data2ext, data2sd, if it does one of those, partitioning your MicroSD card and formatting the partition in ext2/ext3/ext4 will give you more space to install applications.

wait wait wait i bought hd2 at 14/1 and i put android at 13/1 so am sooo noob on these what A2SD, A2SD+, data2ext, data2sd are?
how do i partition my sd? how do i format to ext...

This is the downside of using NAND rom, the internal memory is very low. My phone is showing about 120 MB available and still I permanent have the icon telling me low disk space.
So there is a solution and that is to partition the sd card? Are there any instructions for this available so it becames part of the OS?. I have searched but could not seem to find the proper thread.

I am not going to explain what it is, but instead, I am gonna tell you what to look at. When choosing a ROM.
Example1:
[15 JAN] -=MDJ's CyanogenMod 7 v. 2.4 [A2SD+][GRH78][RMNET][Kernel: MDJ S10.4 OC]
See the wonderful [A2SD+] that means it uses A2SD+
Example2:
[16 JAN][DAF][ZIP] RAFDROID HD 2.2 [DATA2EXT][Kern:MDJ 10.3][RMNET][UPDATED!]
This uses data2ext
Example3:
[30 DEC][DFT]LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM
This doesn't use anything, so you are screwed... you run out of space, that's it, SCREWED.
I highly recommend that you read this, and understand what it says.

Because Clockwork makes things really easy for noobs, if you want to call yourself that. It is also used in every Android Devices that I know of, including the Real HTC DesireHD, Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Nexus S, HTC Desire, and many more. HD2 users prefer people to do everything for them and package everything neatly, then complain about having to wipe everything away each update.

bakskj, so yah, you have 120MB left. So unless you know how to put A2SD, A2SD+ or data2sd or data2ext into the ROM you are using now, pretty much, use that 120MB sparingly, that's all you will have.

Urm, it's hard to say what is the best. I guess look at the screen shot and choose the one that looks the most pleasing?
But you know what, now that you are starting again,

READ THAT... USE THAT...
Then choose a ROM that says CLOCKWORK
-=DOWNLOAD v. 2.4 A2SD+ NAND Clockwork Mod=-
Like that. This way, if you have a small little fix, you don't have to reflash the whole rom, some nice guy/girl might already post up the fix in a nice zip file that you can use clockwork to install.

flashed on nand the original desire android on my hd2. its 2.2ver and i cant save app on sd card. the other 2 ver are 2.3 android right? the last one?

There are down sides to using app2sd and data on sd.... Namely you cannot mount the SD Card via usb.
The single best option for having a stable, low maintenance build is projections Stock desire, which has some squashing to reduce the space. HD builds are all flawed for 512mb users because of the size. You either have no space, or you cannot mount your sd card.
Based on that I would always go for a stock desire/evo based build, which give full functionality, but with ~180mb free space. Everybody is so quick to ask for data on sd.... but the corruption factor that is still there, combined with the inability to mount the drive, makes it a no go for many people who are starting out, and will be back on here in a few days asking why they are getting force closes, or why they cannot access SD card via usb.

First off thanks for the informative replies. I think I'm gonna go for a partitioned one because more space is essential for me.
What i do want to know is. Is there a fix for those eventual crashes and what not? And if they are really to annoying. Because nothing beats stability.

Well, I am one of those who admire the XDA BIG TIIIMMEE!! However I have an HD2 and managed to have it as a NAND Android after the help of the XDA (as usual of course!) Anyway when I started looking for new ROMs I have noticed that there is new method or way which I do not grasp, comprehend and assimilate AT ALL....ZIP that is, such as [A2SD+], NAND SD and ClockworkMod.Recovery!!!
What is the difference between running Android on NAND & SD with ClockworkMod?!
I am sorry people because truly I must have missed threads or the way of understanding, so hopefully you'll going to be the teacher of mine for now and always!
Could anyone help me as if I am 7 years old?!!!

Android nand is running off internal memory. Sd option is what it says, a build running off your sd card opposed to running it with nand.

Thank you for your explanation, but does that mean if the Android runs off internal memory would make the running proccess faster or it would hepl smoothen applications response?! What is the use if I already have the internal memory, wouldn't be even better off?!

SD Builds start to boot from SD card while being on WM6.5. The hardware shutsdown WinMo and runs Android on it.
NAND Builds run from the internal memory of the phone(just like where WinMo was before)
RAM Builds load all the OS from the SD Card inside the RAM.
[A2SD+] means that you can use a small ext2,ext3 or ext4 partition in your SD Card for increasing your internal storage memory for installing more apps... so this means more internal space.
ClockworkMod is a small linux-based booting utility allowing users to install Android Builds on-the-go which are stored as zip packages on the SD Card. It allows you to install new kernels as update.zip packages as well without having to re-format your entire phone again, or just to erase all personal data on the sd-ext partition.
So, in fact a lot of things have changed in the last 3 months... these are just a few features i can tell you about every method, but at least I hope this will help you to understand quickly a bit about all that.

NAND runs off the internal memory and even though you get much lower Quadrant scores, NAND is much more responsive and smooth.
The only reason SD based builds get more Quadrant is because of I/O speeds thanks to the SD card.
SD builds are fast, but NAND builds are much SMOOTHER and reliable and if you can do something on SD, you can do it just as well on NAND (gaming for example).

u can try one ap2sd rom capabile or ap2ext.

ap2sd, data2ext is different

Try the ROM in my sig. 320mb of free storage after you freed up 24mb from magldr.

with data2ext you make an ext2/3/4 partion on your sd card and the phone shows it as phone memory,but it depend on the ROM if it uses data2ext or sometimes you can choose it in a configfile. so just try another rom, my favorite is coredroid, a Desire HD ROM but very fast and with widgets in the notification bar like Galaxy S

Just to make this clear. By internal storage, they mean the ROM of your device. So that means you have 512 ROM. And ROM is the space for where the OS/bootloader, radio, apps, get installed.
Therefore when you say there is only 125 mb space free, that means that the android rom you just installed & bootloader took up the 387mb ROM you so claim to be missing. So is anything wrong with your device? Conclusion: No. Solutions? The people above have given them.

In my phone, when i run appmonster it says:
Phone 114,00MB / 24,05 MB Apps: 49
SD 14,83 / 6,93 GB
Maybe i missunderstand but the phone complain against my phone-storage.

ap2sd, data2ext is different

Installed coredroid and now i dont have any problems with space
Didnt know what the problem was so i reeinstalled another version of Android and it seems to work nice, it is very very fast.

Titanium Backup's "System ROM & Internal" size

After using my HD2 for close to 1.5 years, I finally manage to get root on the Froyo NAND ROM I have, and installed Titanium Backup. What took me so long? Partly due to the fact I don't have much time to try out different ROMs and also I need something reliable, which made me stuck to the same early NAND release for so long, but the lack of internal space is really getting on my nerves recently.
Just a backtrack on what ROM I used. I followed instructions on the [GUIDE] Flashing Your First HD2 NAND Android Rom [For Newbs] thread, installed LEO "Stock Desire" NAND Android ROM by Cotulla and never bothered with anything else, even with the fact it doesn't have root access.
Upon installing Titanium Backup, I discovered a section where they listed "System ROM: 274MB (18.6MB free)" and "Internal: 144MB (17.2MB free)", well, that explains why I kept running out of space, the first boot up, I remembered I only have like 30MB out of the 144MB Internal space to use for any other external apps I installed! But another question beckons, 274MB + 144MB is only about 418MB, I thought we have 576MB to begin with on the HD2? What happened to the rest of the storage? I've checked my radio and I'm running on 2.15.50.14 which is supposed to have unlocked the extra memory.
And I'm also thinking of installing a new ROM after all these years, probably sticking with a Sense based one, which I've seen a pretty good Rom SENSATION XL V 3.0 or DESIRE HD OFFICIAL RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_V 3.0 made by haldric, but the partition of 5/220/5 or 5/180/5 is a little worrying as that would mean less internal space left for apps I install, but how does one calculate and estimate the amount of internal memory left after a clean install? If not, I would be considering tytung's NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.2a which has a small system partition of 135MB, which probably meant I have more internal space left for apps instead, but it doesn't have SENSE, which I prefer to have even though it makes the phone slower.
Also, I guess I prefer to stick with the MAGLDR way of flashing thru DAF.exe as I think it's probably the most straight forward and easiest way compared to the other methods which seemed kinda complicated.
My main question is actually the "System ROM" and "Internal" size showed by Titanium backup, is that normal that it doesn't add up to the RAM/ROM size?

Thealshear, I would, but it seems the procedure to set it up seemed pretty complicated, and, well, I've been thinking of trying out a new ROM as well.
I guess I got confused anyway, it's 512MB of ROM, so after deducting 274MB out of System ROM and 144MB out of Internal memory, where did the rest of the 94MB went? Cache?

First of all, RAM is a completely different thing from ROM.
ROM, stands for Read-only memory , is where your OS resides. Whereas RAM, stands for Random Access Memory (you should already know this), is where your running apps are kept ... RUNNING !
The HD2 only has a RAM of 576 MB (after radio install).
But as for the ROM:
The T-mobile packs a 1GB ROM, while the regular (Euro) HD2 only packs 512MB (not 576MB).
And finally, don't trust TB . Mine says (167 System ROM & 1GB internal when I actually own a European HD2 ) and that is because the A2SD script.
When you want to flash a recovery, your maximum is 400MB system (considering 10MB cache, 2MB boot, 5MB recovery & 1MB misc) Which totals to about 418MB.
I don't know why the rest is not used, but since it is happening on both DAF flashing AND CWM, then I assume it's a thing we cannot change.

Well, yeah, I just found out I got mistaken, it's the ROM size that I need to take note about, one of the things that baffled me coming from iOS is that, in iOS, whatever listed storage size, I could use it all up for apps instead of like in Android's case, it's based on the ROM size.
Anyway, other than checking the flash.cfg configuration, there's no where else to roughly estimate how much internal memory is left? Moving apps to SD doesn't seem to be the full blown solution as I think some parts will still be left on the ROM, or I had been misinformed?
Is it possible to setup without Clockwork Mod?

Always shows you the actual amount of MBs left for you to install apps. (If you're not using an A2SD script)
Why are you still on that rusty ROM ?
There are now much better ROMs with better functionality. Furthermore, the installation procedure is rather simple.
I recommend doing the following:
1- Sync your Contacts & Calendar Events to Google. (Auto by default)
2- Backup your SMS with any app from the Market. (Optional)
3- Backup your apps using TB backup (requires root ofc )
After that, wipe off your device using Task29. Then choose either MAGLDR or cLK (see what suits you best). Then install CWM (cWM comes pre-installed with cLK 1.5) .. then customize the partition sizes. Finally, flash your favourite ROM.

Well, as mentioned, I'm still on this rusty ROM due to convenience and I didn't had much time to tweak around. Back then, I got the HD2 as it was the only possible phone that has 4.3" on Android
Recently, the internal memory issue is getting on my nerves as I need a couple of apps that's impossible to install without having more internal memory! Which was why I finally decided it's time to read a little bit more to get a much better ROM instead without resorting to changing phones.
So, basically, whatever I do, I would still need to run Task29? Task29 is unnecessary I feel. Just follow this guide and you should be fine. Do a wipe in MAGLDR, flash CWM and carry on from there.
In terms of the internal memory apps, which ones are these? I made sure to move all of my games to the SD card, and any app which has a significant amount of data. All the apps on my internal storage right now are Widgets and Launchers, works fine for me.

And yes, CWM is fundamental. On the other hand, task29 is not. But I like to do it when switching from MAGLDR to cLK or vice versa.
