Won't connect to 3G when docked! - Touch HD General

Hi all.
I have the problem that when I have the HD docked either in my carcharger or regular charger it won't go online on 3G network.
I think there might be a setting saying it should use USB connection instead of 3G when available, but cannot find it.
Can any of you recollect where to find it?

Right click the active sync icon in your system tray and open up "connection settings..."
On that dialog, make sure that "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" is ticked, and that it says "This computer is connected to" "Work Network". (That last setting tells it not to use the USB connection as an internet connection.)
I used to have the same issue and those steps fixed it. Hope you have the same result mate.

Actually, I've just reread your question and noticed that it doesn't work when plugged into the charger, not just a PC.
I'm afraid that advice won't help at all, and I've never had a problem with this unless connected to a PC.
Good luck with it!

Is there any chance that you have an automatic profile selector?
I use SPB Phone Suit and have the phone off when I'm charging at night.

Thanks for you comments.
I will try a hard reset and see if I somehow can change something in the setting up.
If I find an answer I will post it here.
Thanks.

can't sync. with my laptop

Hello All,
I don't know what is the problem. It seems ok for the first time after i installed the version 4.0 that comes with the CD. It works fine. But for the second time, it just 'connecting'. Have gone thru' the troubleshooting processes but without success. Also tried to install the new version 4.1 but won't work.
Pls can someone help me on this.
rgds.
zainal.
does it sync over BT?
i had the same problem before & i still do, but soem other guy here in the forum said it worked for him when he uninstalled AS then reinstalled it again.
try it, it might work with you.
until now i'm still stuck with BT syncing, i cannot sync over USB.
i still get "connecting" message all the time with no progress.
Hi Guys
I had EXACTLY the same problem, alhough I could not get BT to work but could get IRDA to work.
Here is what I THINK the problem is, by the way i-mate were useless it was a colleague at work that had finally found this problem on his device.
WM5 devices when connecting via USB create a NETWORK. Strange but true.
SO, open Control panels, open Network Connections.
Attach your K-JAM (or other WM5 device) you SHOULD see a new network get created with a random number at the end of it (the number changes depending on the USB port you use so you MAY need to do this procedure again if you connect via a different USB port).
Get the properties of this new network when it opens you should see that NONE of the services are checked.
Check them all.
Close.
Everything SHOULD suddently spring into action, it certainly did for me.
It appears that some PC config's (all our work ones) need to be configured this way were as otheres set themselves up fine.
Let me know if this works.
Cheers.
Robin
the wierest thing just happened.
i wanted to try your solution, i opened the network connections folder, connected my kjam, and for my surprise it just connected without me doing anything, and i had it sycronised over the USB.
BUT, the wierd thing, is even though i have the connection, and it is syncronizing with my laptop, i don't have the connection icon on my kjam, instead i had this message (attached).
what does this mean?
Don't know, I have never seen this!!!!
Robin
the strange things keeps coming...
when i wanted to sync my device again this evening, my whole laptop freezes without any responce.
can someone here tell me what's the problem i'm having here? & how to solve it?
i don't wonna format my PC over this.
thanks all in advance.
I have noticed that the synchronisation only happens properly if I connect to the SAME usb port. If I connect to another port, the laptop picks up the connection but won't synchronise.
Connect to the same USB port and voila!!
Hope that helps.
See my reply earlier.
Each different USB port you connect too AS creates a NEW network with a different number on the end of it.
You have to open the network properties for all the networks (with numbers) you intend suing and make sure all the properties are checked.
I use 3 different USB ports on my laptop depending on wether it is docked at home the office or undocked.
I have had to do this procedure for each port but now they ALL work smoothly every time.
Regards.
Robin
i did connect it to the same USB port, but no luck there, the same problem. i uninstalled the AS twice and re-installed it but it's the same.
hi.
i have tried yr solution by ticking all the boxes in the 'new' network properties. won't work though. the sync. icon shows 'connecting'.

Strange.
I know a number of people this worked for.
You could/should also try disabling your firewall and giving it another go.

Cannot connect via USB

Hi Friends and Gurus,
I'm stumped . I cannot get any connection to my PC via USB. I don't get the "du-duh" connect sound. The connection is not present in my network connections.
Here are the steps to reproduce:
Unlocked Cingular 8525, WM5 official update
ActiveSync 4.5 uninstalled and reinstalled on PC
Attach phone to computer via USB cable (in any of 3 USB PC ports)
Phone gets power via USB cable (light on Hermes turns amber), but..
Problem:
No connection sound (du-duh)
No connection visible in network connections
A bit more info:
In messing around, I could have set something incorrectly on the phone. But I'm afraid (and embarassed to admit) I don't know where to start.
I've searched this site and have not found the magic cure.
If you have any tips, suggestions, settings to try, etc., i'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Chris
as silly as this sounds... mine wont connect to activesync or mymobiler if I have WiFi enabled on the 8525.
Just pointing that out in case you hadnt tried it
Thanks densmore,
Mine used to work even with WiFi on (so for a while I was in better shape than you ) , but now, it doesn't matter either way (so now I'm much worse off than you ).
I'll keep hoping for other suggestions here, but appreciate your tip.
Chris
try this...
go to device manager and uninstall usb hub and then search for new devices and it will reinstall itself. reboot and try again.
I suppose you have 'enable advanced network functionality' unticked?
If not:
start/settings/connections/usb to pc/ untick
If you have, try ticking it, soft reset, try to connect again.
I suppose you have rebooted your pc/laptop?
deleted the partnership and reformed it?
tried another usb port?
also, this is a useful source of info:
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/syncerrors.htm
If I think of more, I'll come back.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=318425 for a complete review of MyMobiler
Just another thing to confirm. You have not used the likes of memmaid to remove notifications and accidentally removed repllog entries?
You can use the likes of sktools to confirm that the repllog entries to start Active Sync are present.

connect over USB killing EVDO

Hey -
Sorry if this has been covered before but it's so hard to find what you're lookign for with search sometimes.... anyways...
I got a nice lil cradle thing for my xv6800 and want to have it hooked up to my laptop when I'm in the office. I seem to be having a problem though when the device is connected it kills all regular VZW connections over EVDO... I have the device in sync with exchange server 24/7 so need to make sure it keeps the connection to VZW even while connected to the PC. It seems PC connection is trying to override VZW for some reason?
I went through the connections settings and removed all but Verizon Wireless in there but USB still doing some kind of an override....
am I missing something? Anyone have any helpful hints to allow my device to stay connected through EVDO while docked to PC?
Thanks
still cant find anything on this... activesync over bluetooth doesn't affect data connection but USB kills it.... no one has a solution?
oh come on.. all the ppc geeks in here and no one has any clue?
maybe I posted in the wrong forum for attention?

Touch Hd 3G vodaphone uk lose of connection

Hi guys,
Been looking around all day for a fix for this. I thought it was just a setting issue so have been try all kinds of setups from what vodaphone have on their website to what i have googled and still have the issue.
I can get on to the internet after a reboot but after a while it will lose connection and i will get two arrows one left and one right on top of each other instead of the normal "G" icon. As so as this happens i lose all connection to the internet and cannot get back on unless i reboot the phone a few times then the "G" icon comes back and the internet is back up and running.
Its my only grip so far with this phone everything else is great.
Any ideas
Damo
wierd. that sounds like the activesync icon...You're not connected to your PC via cable/bluetooth are you?
Stupid question I know, but best to get it out of the way.

oh my god i am such a noob, i did not know that when the usb connection is connected the interenetconnection stopped......hang is that right, should it still not connect to the internet?
Thanks
Damian
When you plug it into the PC, it will try and use the PC's internet connection.
On the PC, open activesync and go to file, connection settings.
Make sure that the option called This computer connects to is set to the internet.
Also, tick the box marked Allow wireless connections... then it should be able to connect while plugged in.
If you have vista and WMDC, these options should still be around, but as i have avoided vista like the plague, i can't tell you where they are cos i simply don't know.

Data Connection and setting Wifi preference?

Hey guys
I'm a big time noob, and the HD2 is a complete marvel for me, its my first WM device and I'm learning alot thats for sure. If there is an obvious solution, apologies in advance
I've been looking around the forums and googling for answers, but still unsure about the data connection and wifi settings in the HD2, and have spent the last few days checking the connection status/settings. Sometimes I find that the WiFi and/or Data Connection ON/OFF toggle section is greyed out in Settings, no idea why as I haven't been able to find a real reason. Could anyone please explain why this may be the case?
Ideally I'd like the WiFi to be the preferred internet access mode, but I'm not sure what my phone is using when I access online content. I can see the wireless is connected, but how can I be sure its definitely using it? I can check the notifications that I'm connected, but I'm also seeing a connection to "Contract Internet" which is normally on H with full bars.
On my previous phone a Nokia N95 8gb (nothing compared to HD2 bar the camera ) whenever I wanted to go online, I had it set to "ask" what connection to use, e.g. I had a list of connections such as Vodadafone Contract (3G/GPRS) or from a list of my defined WiFi connections.
Is there something similar somewhere in the HD2 settings that would "ask" what kind of connection to use? It would be great if someone could let me know.
Sorry to be a pest, but anyone?
Hi there. I'm not an expert myself and HD2 is my first Windows Mobile device as well. I'll try and help, because I spent some time looking for answer on that particular subject. Let's go through this point by point.
(1) You have to understand the notification icons that appear on the topbar. Download the official user manual here and look for pages 39-40. These notifications are realtime, thus more precise than the Comm Manager.
(2) Let's be clear: the word "data connections" that appear in the Comm Manager only refer to the internet connections using 2G (GPRS or EDGE) or 3G (UMTS or HPSDA), not Wifi. So it won't toggle on, even when your wifi connection is up and running.
(3) A lot applications use your internet connection (Data or Wifi), even when the phone is in sleep mode (weather updates, stocks updates etc).
(4) About the following question: I'm not sure what my phone is using when I access online content. I'll tell you the way it works on my phone. Still, you'll need aswers of other people as well. You have to consider different situations.
- If no internet connection is on (no wifi, no data) and an application need to access internet (ex: Eutomatic updates or Opera browser), then the phone will open a data connection (2G or 3G). If it doesn't succeed, you'll get an error message.
- If wifi is already on and connected, but data connection is off, the applications will use the wifi connection. Unlike data connection, the applications are not able to "force wifi connection" if it's not already connected... I don't know if there is a setting or a tweak to change this.
(5) Unfortunately, I already experienced some application that "force" the opening of data connections, even with wifi on and connected. That's why I disable every automatic updates. I only do manual updates... and it "obeys", meaning that updates use the wifi when I'm connected, and force data connection when wifi is not available. I tried some complex (freewares) softwares like WMLongLife (found here) because I wanted the data connection to disconnect automatically after an updates (manual or automatic), but they were not very handy. The latest I tried gave me the best results. It's called Bandswitch 0.3 (found here). It works great in doing just that: automatic data disconnection after idle delay you choose.
(6) Is there something similar somewhere in the HD2 settings that would "ask" what kind of connection to use? I'm not absolety sure, but you could try to reach this settings. Follow this path: Windows icon -> Start menu -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections (yes, once again) -> Go to the tab called "Advanced" -> Click on the button "select networks". Here you can find what program which network programs must automaticaly use. You'll be able to see the 2G/3G network, but I'm not sure what you should choose to enable WIFI connection... Tell me if you find!
That's it folk. Cheers.
Sorry for a short answer, but Wifi will always be grayed out when your hooked up to your pc, I didnt notice it at first either so dont be embaressed
(subscribed to the thread because I think something that would let you pick your connection type would be ace)

I also noticed this, but yesterday I found an option in Activesync windows mobile device centre on my PC by accident. It says "disable data connection on phone when connected to PC"
If you untick this box you can connect to wifi and GPRS/HSDPA all whilst still connected to the PC through usb!

I guess you'd wanna do that only if your PC is not connected already to the internet... which is rare...
Because your device is automatically connected to the network your laptop/pc is currently connected to.

If your computer uses a proxy server to connect to the internet, your phone doesn't assume the same identity as your PC. At work I can't use the PCs internet connection on my phone when I connect via ActiveSync, but my phone charges and I can browse it in file explorer.
That's one reason why you'd want to do it
