connect over USB killing EVDO - Networking

Hey -
Sorry if this has been covered before but it's so hard to find what you're lookign for with search sometimes.... anyways...
I got a nice lil cradle thing for my xv6800 and want to have it hooked up to my laptop when I'm in the office. I seem to be having a problem though when the device is connected it kills all regular VZW connections over EVDO... I have the device in sync with exchange server 24/7 so need to make sure it keeps the connection to VZW even while connected to the PC. It seems PC connection is trying to override VZW for some reason?
I went through the connections settings and removed all but Verizon Wireless in there but USB still doing some kind of an override....
am I missing something? Anyone have any helpful hints to allow my device to stay connected through EVDO while docked to PC?
Thanks

still cant find anything on this... activesync over bluetooth doesn't affect data connection but USB kills it.... no one has a solution?

oh come on.. all the ppc geeks in here and no one has any clue?
maybe I posted in the wrong forum for attention?

ActiveSync blocked by ADSL connection???

Hello everybody!
I dis some light searching and all the trouble shooting MS had available (which isn't much) so please don't shoot me if this was asked and answered already:
I have the following problem:
Yesterday I upgraded to AS 4.1 (removed 3.7 first) so I can sync my new jamin (Prophet). If I sync it while my computer is not connected to the internet everything is fine, and I can establish an internet connection later, but if my ADSL connection is already active, AS will not connect to my device.
I switched off the Norton firewall I had running, but that did not help. At work I was able to sync while my computer was connected through the company network, so I am 99.9% certain the device is not to blame.
I am running Win XP SP 2 on my PC with a USB ADSL modem.
Has anyone encountered this issue and knows how to resolve it
I will be grateful for any help, thanks in advance!
Check your firewall. I've been caught out so many times thinking I've disabled my firewall only to find that some part of it is still enabled. There's no way your modem could be causing AS to stop working, because AS uses a local connection and doesn't need to tunnel out to the internet.
Boy, am I a moron!!!!
First, thanks Echilon for your reply!
Second, if I get lucky a moderator will see this thread and delete it, as there aren't enough emoticons here to express my embarrassment.
I stumbled on the solution while browsing an unrelated post in another forum. Turns out I had to go in to Connection settings and switch 'This computer connects to' form automatic to internet.
Now everything works fine, and there's no annoying network acquisition before syncing.
I have learned my lesson and will try looking harder next time before crying for help.
Well, if nothing else perhaps someone else could learn from my mistake...
works in wired adsl hotel too
Man,
I've been in my hotel for a week and your post (changing to from "auto" to "internet" ) just fixed my problem! Big up on the info b/c know I can use my VoIP client back to Germany.

Sync Problems with wizard and MS Active Sync 4.1

Hey guys,
Ok this sync is really bugging me, first it took me ages to work out why when i plugged it in the connection went green ina ctive sync and said connecting but wasnt working no matter how long i gave it - turns out it was a firewal problem,
but now when i plug in my wizard and the wizard says connecting under active sync but my computer active sync doesnt do anything, i tried switching usbs restarting both PC and Wizard to no avail, i know my PC is seeing somthing there because it says at first (when i plug into new USB port) found device etc etc, but then it installs it as a network connection and trys to aquire an IP/Network address from it!! that doesnt seem right to me!
Any advice would be great
Thanks
Nathan
hmm has anyone with a working active sync noticed if its installed as a network device for you? does the wizard work as a USB - GPRS modem? because that would explain that bit.
Thanks
Hmmm...
I'm gonna guess that no one is responding because you've basically said some things that lead everyone to believe you've not researched your device or problem before starting a new thread about issues that have been covered time and again.
First, by default Windows Mobile 5 (WM5) connects using the Network Connection method. If you want to use the old USB Serial connection your will need to upgrade to an AKU 2.2 or AKU 2.3 Rom.
Second, if you use the search function (see the top center of the screen) you will find numerous threads discussing several issues with ActiveSync.
Newbies are always welcome but you need to at least try to find your answers before just plopping donw a new thread.
Hi,
I did a search, and tried most of the suggestions, but i dont get this AKU2 thing? and couldnt find a deifnition.
but anyway im since broken the phone so thanks anyway guys
Check your vpn option and firewall option. If you using cisco vpn then uncheck "statefull firewall (always on)".

usb network

Hi all,
As i posted in another thread about networking thru bluetooth i have another similiar question.
It seems many ppl have the same problem and there is a solution tho not the best one.
Many of you know that connecting tytn to pc thro usb is unstable.
So was the case for me til i turned of the advanced networking feature of tytns usb.
Syncing works and the connections never dropped, tho this is not the best solution since the networking features are lost.
In other word you can no longer ping the phone from the laptop, which means you can't browse the laptops files from the tytn.
What happens for me is that after i've plugged in the usb cable i get a new connection in my laptop with all fancy ips and stuff, activesync is able to synchronize and everything works for a cpl of minutes.
Then the connection is dropped (activesync turns grey) tho the laptops connection-trayicon still is visible tho freezed.
When trying to open or disable the connection the whole pc turns unstable.
When trying to shutdown windows standard "task not responding" shows up telling "connections tray" bla bla, end task? you know...
Even if i end it nothing happens and i have to do a power button-shutdown.
So, am i missing something?
It seems tho everything works fine if i connect and disconnect the cable myself, the connection is dropped, trayicon removed etc, standard.
Issue seems to be when connection is dropped for other reasons (timeout? inactivity?)
Is there a way to increase activesyns timeout?
Can you still have networking features somehow even tho advanced networking is disabled?
I'm running win xp/sp2 tested on both a firewalled (kaspersky) and non-firewalled pc with the same result...
It'd be really neat to browse my laptop files thru tytn and watch a movie or two at night...
Cheers

You can't do this over USB with the old networking model, as has been pointed out in my related articles (have you read them? They also explain a lot of other questions in your post - http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/in...eed_to_know_about_usb_ne&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 )

Touch Hd 3G vodaphone uk lose of connection

Hi guys,
Been looking around all day for a fix for this. I thought it was just a setting issue so have been try all kinds of setups from what vodaphone have on their website to what i have googled and still have the issue.
I can get on to the internet after a reboot but after a while it will lose connection and i will get two arrows one left and one right on top of each other instead of the normal "G" icon. As so as this happens i lose all connection to the internet and cannot get back on unless i reboot the phone a few times then the "G" icon comes back and the internet is back up and running.
Its my only grip so far with this phone everything else is great.
Any ideas
Damo
wierd. that sounds like the activesync icon...You're not connected to your PC via cable/bluetooth are you?
Stupid question I know, but best to get it out of the way.

oh my god i am such a noob, i did not know that when the usb connection is connected the interenetconnection stopped......hang is that right, should it still not connect to the internet?
Thanks
Damian
When you plug it into the PC, it will try and use the PC's internet connection.
On the PC, open activesync and go to file, connection settings.
Make sure that the option called This computer connects to is set to the internet.
Also, tick the box marked Allow wireless connections... then it should be able to connect while plugged in.
If you have vista and WMDC, these options should still be around, but as i have avoided vista like the plague, i can't tell you where they are cos i simply don't know.

Won't connect to 3G when docked!

Hi all.
I have the problem that when I have the HD docked either in my carcharger or regular charger it won't go online on 3G network.
I think there might be a setting saying it should use USB connection instead of 3G when available, but cannot find it.
Can any of you recollect where to find it?
Right click the active sync icon in your system tray and open up "connection settings..."
On that dialog, make sure that "Allow wireless connection on device when connected to the desktop" is ticked, and that it says "This computer is connected to" "Work Network". (That last setting tells it not to use the USB connection as an internet connection.)
I used to have the same issue and those steps fixed it. Hope you have the same result mate.
Actually, I've just reread your question and noticed that it doesn't work when plugged into the charger, not just a PC.
I'm afraid that advice won't help at all, and I've never had a problem with this unless connected to a PC.
Good luck with it!
Is there any chance that you have an automatic profile selector?
I use SPB Phone Suit and have the phone off when I'm charging at night.
Thanks for you comments.
I will try a hard reset and see if I somehow can change something in the setting up.
If I find an answer I will post it here.
Thanks.
