Im new to the xda forums and ive litterally tried all the varieties of hero roms on here and all of them have given me problems ranging from the blurry screen to the htc loading screen every time i press the home button. i hate the stock ui of android 1.5 so i thought id try something else and i need serious technical help getting the MOST stable and efficient rom w/o many complicationd because the actual HTC Hero is come out for Sprint on 10/11 and i dont have the accomidations to switch carriers right now. Please help

It's totally subjective:
But my opinion is
Cyanogen Experimental 1.4.7 with Enochs 1.3.1 theme.
Yes it says experimental but i've had less issues with this ROM than most (so called) stable ROM's. It's easily the fastest thing out there for the Magic (because of BFS), trust me you won't believe how fast it is!

But not a Hero ROM, just a highly moded/optomized stock ROM with a little Donut thrown in.

i say cyanogens 4.1.7 without hero. Yes i thought hero was the bomb, then i started to get a lil mad with the lag. its still not a day to day user interface. i have tried all configurations and still nothing to bring me comfort while using hero. i hate to say that the ion/sapphires have the advantage with more ram. it makes a big dif. but cyanogens rom is really a WOW. Ya nothing with pretty stuff is ehhh but its super fast and can apply themes to make it look beautiful!!! with themes its still respectful. hard to say amongst most. those to vouch for me speak up.
ZeroXD 5.2r4 or Evil Hero 2.4x. Runs as fast as stock for me. Cant remember what a load screen looks like. Just need to set max cpu to 528, can keep minimum where it is and use 96mb swap file 40 o 60 swappiness.

I just got my mytouch3g and the browsing is way slower than on an iphone. I was under the impression that they were pretty comparable. Is this a hardware thing or a software thing that can be fixed? I am mainly talking about scrolling around once the page is loaded although loading seems really slow even over wifi. I installed the cyanogenmod and the multitouch is so laggy it's almost useless.
so no one knows if the mytouch3g is supposed to be slower than an iphone or not?
So this is pretty much the least helpful forum in the world then? Thanks
Yes. You can flash with cyanogen rom for example to get the Magic faster !
I dont think you can compare G1 and MyTouch to iphone since they are both with low RAM.
I think you should try compare the 32a (like the european) with iphone.
try a fix_permissions in terminal
what is the fix_permissions supposed to do?
Ok all, I have a 32b magic, rooted and with Cyanogen running and I love it. it's all set up how I like it, wouldn't change a thing.
But...!
I have an upgrade coming up and I think I can get the Hero.
I've run a Hero rom before and wasn't all that fussed with the features such as the mail, message and contact widgets so the question is...
Is it worth upgrading?
what would you guys do?
the hero has the advantage of having more ram, thats the only difference in hardware i have found. everything else is the same, except no hardware keyboard.
It still suffers from the poor mem managment the g1 suffers. once you start opening programs, they stay iopen until it needs to free up the ram. this lags the phone and theres not really any inteligence in shutting programs down.
I love the hero rom, though it can be sluggish at times.
however there are sense hybrid roms which are realy good and run pretty quick. though i think they run android 1.5

Its just strange because I love my phone, especially how personlised it now is. Just not sure how much better the Hero upgrade would be.

Hmmm... but I might not be able to then, when is there better stuff coming then?
It's just an upgrade from 192mb ram to 288mb, that's the only advantage. The Hero's a first gen device, I'd wait for other phones to be released without the sh*tty qualcomm chipset.
Everyone has their opinions on what Hero rom is the best and fastest. I've tried them all. The question I have does anyone think we will never have a hero rom that will be as fast as actual Hero/Eris? All the ones Ive tried the home screen runs okay as long as you constantly kill the background programs. But pulling up apps and moving through the system is slow on any Hero rom (that Ive tried). I have all the correct linx-swap 128, ext2 500 and class 6. Question still stands will there ever be a rom that moves as fast as the actual phone?
I doubt it. It just basically comes down to the hardware and how we lack 96mb of ram over the actual hero or 32A devices. It makes it really hard to even get a rom that will compare to the original.
Hi,
I usually reinstall my HTC Hero with a different ROM every 2-3-4 weeks. Not because I enjoy it, but I experience that a newly installed ROM is quite fast, then over time, gets slower and slower and ends up being unbearably slow, kinda forcing me to reinstall.
My question is, how do I get around this? How do I prevent my Hero from being slower and slower so I can just install one ROM and stick with that?
I am quite sure that my flash has a swap (not 100% sure though, how do I check it?) and I am using a class 10 flash, so I guess it should be fast enough and not slow anyting down.
Also, I tend to think that it's a good idea to move all not so frequently used apps to SD, to free up main memory, but I am unsure if this in itself actually slows things down instead?
Any comments would be great.

The fastes ROM that i used on my hero was VillainROM 13...and damn is that fast or what...Now i use Salsa Sense 4.0 and the only problem is that it killes sometimes my SetCpu and it gets slow...
I'm now sure but i think that a 2.2 stock rocks on the hero...but elelinux has a GB rom that rocks (recommend if you like stock roms ).
PS: clock the phone @ 691 and you will get speed

if you like games i recommend VillainROM 13...even if is a 2.1 android rom but it's fast... If you want a everyday use SalsaSense 4.0 is fun but has some bugs sometimes...
If you want stock android i recommend ele's GB ROM
I see this problem to sometimes but i noticed that the GB internal task manager killed setcpu
I have tried a few different ROM's and best one i have used is Elelinux Speedmachinev4, went to the market and downloaded Android Optimizer ToolBox, and got rid of all the apps i did not need or plan to use (you could also use Adb command line to achieve this aswell as a few other methods), and used the cyanogen setCPU to overclock my CPU to 710mhz. Also using Adavnced Task Killer set to auto kill apps every 3 hours.
And all above combined i have never had lag or slowdown or any problems what so ever.
What utility do you use to flash?
I mean, I had this problem ages ago, I was using AmonRa Recovery..the gradual slowness was becoming a problem for me as well, so I did 2 things:
1. Got myself the latest AmonRa version.
2. Got the latest Radios and Kernels.
Haven't had a problem yet..
yes, same with you,I ususall re-falsh rom again,it is best solve for the issue.
You just need a faster/better rom on your Hero. If your still having trouble I recommend Kimera Rom its stable and very fast.
I've found that certain rom's slow down faster than others, for instance I've been running OMGB for two months now with no problems. Other roms take less than a week to slow down, and lose their 'smoothness'

When you are trying to run an app from your SD card, it takes longer time to receive data to your phone, so you are supposed to separate usual apps and games on different districts. And, installing too many unnecessary things on your phone will make your speed slower, so clean up your apps every months or even weeks is a good habit.
i never had this kind of problem, couse i change my roms almost every day
