Slow internet browsing - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I just got my mytouch3g and the browsing is way slower than on an iphone. I was under the impression that they were pretty comparable. Is this a hardware thing or a software thing that can be fixed? I am mainly talking about scrolling around once the page is loaded although loading seems really slow even over wifi. I installed the cyanogenmod and the multitouch is so laggy it's almost useless.

so no one knows if the mytouch3g is supposed to be slower than an iphone or not?

So this is pretty much the least helpful forum in the world then? Thanks

Yes. You can flash with cyanogen rom for example to get the Magic faster !

I dont think you can compare G1 and MyTouch to iphone since they are both with low RAM.
I think you should try compare the 32a (like the european) with iphone.

try a fix_permissions in terminal

what is the fix_permissions supposed to do?

BEST hero firmware for magic 32b

What is best hero rom (bt an lwd works, no lag) for 32b??
If by "lag" you mean slower than the stock UI, then none, 192mb ram just cant handle it properly. Dont even bother, there will always be lag compared to the stock google ui...only the 288mb ram version works acceptably well. i know it sucks, i cant wait to NOT renew my tmobile contract and tell them its all because they cheaped out on everyone with the mytouch's ram...
Maxisma 1.7.1 is by far the most solid ROM out there. Hardly any load screens and no lag. It's not quite as speedy as a stock ROM but there's little to stop it being practical as a day to day install. Occasionally a load screen will appear but this happens even on genuine Hero devices. Bluetooth, leds and everything work and you don't need to do any partition on your sd card. Just install and go!

Upgrade to Hero or stick with G2 Magic? The forum decides!

Ok all, I have a 32b magic, rooted and with Cyanogen running and I love it. it's all set up how I like it, wouldn't change a thing.
But...!
I have an upgrade coming up and I think I can get the Hero.
I've run a Hero rom before and wasn't all that fussed with the features such as the mail, message and contact widgets so the question is...
Is it worth upgrading?
what would you guys do?
the hero has the advantage of having more ram, thats the only difference in hardware i have found. everything else is the same, except no hardware keyboard.
It still suffers from the poor mem managment the g1 suffers. once you start opening programs, they stay iopen until it needs to free up the ram. this lags the phone and theres not really any inteligence in shutting programs down.
I love the hero rom, though it can be sluggish at times.
however there are sense hybrid roms which are realy good and run pretty quick. though i think they run android 1.5

Thanks mate.
Its just strange because I love my phone, especially how personlised it now is. Just not sure how much better the Hero upgrade would be.
get a mytouch :d
Wait for better hardware before upgrade.

Hmmm... but I might not be able to then, when is there better stuff coming then?
It's just an upgrade from 192mb ram to 288mb, that's the only advantage. The Hero's a first gen device, I'd wait for other phones to be released without the sh*tty qualcomm chipset.

Tried many roms. None run well

Wrong Post
Would help if you said what version of the Magic you have and which ROMs you've tried.
32A HTC Magic
Sure sounds like something is wrong if CyanogenMod is laggy due to it should be one of the fasts roms available. If you wipe before flashing the rom there might be a hardware problem. Or maybe you're running many applications in the background all the time which cause it to get laggy.
Wrong Post
I'm surprised about the CM rom. The only problems I have been having is it charging through my batteries! Have you tried a complete wipe (factory reset) then a fresh install?
I'm extremely surprised that the cyanogen and the amon_ra lag. Those are two of the fastest ROMs I've used.
Like others have said it sounds like you havent been performing full wipes before switching roms.

well it's laggy even after the first reboot, before i install anything. I may just be used to the speed of things moving on the 3GS but I don't see how it could be a hardware problem. It's too new for that. It's not CRAZY laggy, they just feel like they are all betas. Everything works but it's slow.

you're definitely doing something wrong man.
Do a full wipe and repartition your SD card if you haven't already.

It does seem to be a lower fps than the iphone I thought it seemed so when I used 1
yeah the android seems to be lagging the android program itself i played with the motorola droid and the htc droid and they were laggy i own a mt3g and an iphone and i would die without my iphone, i couldnt even check my bank account with the mt3g..i still have both but i prefer the iphone way better..my brother owns a g1 and he loves it which he talked me into getting a mt3g before i owned a dash and then got a dash 3g WM powered and i loved those phones because they were so user friendly...everyone is entitled to their own opinions im just speaking mine

Which is Faster SenseHERO or SenseTATTOO

I was wondering which is faster when running from NAND and from SD, the
SenseHERO or the SenseTATTOO?
I am currently running NFSFAN's newest ROM. I have used an ION build and the SenseHERO build from the SD card. Honestly, the SenseHERO isn't fast enough for me to use on the SD card.
Would the SenseHERO in NAND be faster than an ION build on the SD card? I don't believe that my SD card is a Class 6.
im running SenseHEROv1.4 and its awsome check it out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg2Bkjj57Pc
i like it alot tell me what ya think!
I dont think you should use the video of the mytouch 3g as a reference to which build is faster. The vogue has half the ram and a different, slower processor.
I'm using the sensehero 1.4 build on my vogue that I flashed to NAND. It is pretty smooth, but on occasion there are delays between touches and response, even in the most simple things like dialing a number. Sometimes it freezes and you have to soft reset it. But it does look great and I'm going to keep using it because both windows mobile and regular android combined can't compare to sensehero in looks.
I also wanted to note that I have never used a tattoo build, so I can't say which one is faster.

I think senseTattoo runs a bit faster, especially if you use the tattoo.user.conf jamezelle posted on the Tattoo build thread. nevertheless, i was never able to eliminate the dreaded "rosie delays" so i switched back to the donut-ion build. i miss having all the extra home pages and the built-in exchange integration but the stupid lags and delays were driving me nuts... YMMV.
I was using sense hero a little while until today when I flashed jamezelle's tattoo.
Tattoo is super fast compared to hero hands down using both in NAND.
With hero it would seem to run very fast for a little bit on reboot, then slow down and
lag a lot. tattoo is quick from the start and doesn't slow down, it really feels like it was made for the phone and reminds me of how smooth the winmo roms were.
Another thing is that I had problems answering calls on time with hero, but I haven't missed one yet with tattoo..
In the end hero wasn't fast enough for me day-to-day and actually I got on xda to switch back to winmo 6.5 and android on haret for the time being, but I tried tattoo on NAND and I'm sticking with this for awhile

The MyTouch is faster than our phones... its just not a realistic portrayal of the speed on the Vogue. Makes little sense to compare apples to oranges...

Speed of stock Froyo rom v CM7 poll

Just out of interest as there seems to be a difference of opinion on this.
I find CM7 faster, even when not overclocked.
90% of the vote for CM7 is about what I was expecting.
Can't understand why some people seem to prefer the stock rom.
Because stuff like this is subjective. That apart, few cant live without HTC Sense.
Not when it comes to performance/speed (which is the point of this poll) .
A benchmarking app would show a performance increase after flashing CM7.
Definitely CM7........ my keyboard finally works the way it should
I already had this argument with someone else, so not going to go over it again. But, I'll just state the main point I want to make: Synthetic benchmarks are NOT an indicator of real world performance.
And what will happen if it is proved that cm7 has more performance benchmark than stock. Nothing..... And it is not just the performance but also about features.
Just be happier that wildfire got rooted after ages. The waiting is good bcoz it even got s-off. Thanks to alpharevX again.
And thanks for comparing it with stock rom alone.
<sarcasm>
Before root = root root root
After root. = stock stock stock

Er, wasn't looking for an argument, just trying to gauge the general opinion on whether people find their wildfire faster after flashing cm7.
And yes, I'm aware benchmarking isn't 100% accurate, that's why I started the poll.
Not to prove anything, just to get a consensus.
Guys, please, when you say CM7 is better at performance, can anyone with CM7 confirm to run google maps properly ? They run like sh*t on my device. On froyo they were 100% responsive and fast, now they are unusable.
Btw my observations so far, the rom is far from faster, it is just overhyped rom and people vote its faster, because they read everywhere its faster. My opinion. Maybe on more hw capable devices it is indeed faster.
Don't get me wrong, it's very good looking and seems optimized with tons of tweaks and settings, but i prefer rather 100% performance over tweaks...
In fact, the stock rom is much faster in certain situations. (ie google maps, homescreen scrolling)
But the google maps may be some other problem than the rom.
The homescreen scrolling isn't dependant as much on the ROM as it is on the launcher...

Just go to settings>ADWlauncher>screen preferences>desktop scrolling speed
I did that.... I've went through all setings. I didin't mean faster as "faster" lol.
Maybe its the launcher (probably), anyway my point was it's not "way faster" than Froyo. At least on Wildfire.
as for me, CM is much more responsible and customisable, so you can configure it, to be much faster. I remember my first opinion after installing it "omg, stock rom sucks..." and I still think like that. I haven't tried gmaps though
I've been working with the phone a lot and I must admit my initial judgement was seriously flawed. The first thing I tried was google maps and together with not so well tweaked system / gui resulted in my downed mood. Now I'm starting to share your opinion.
I use 'Angry Birds' as a benchmarking app ...... before CM7 I could barely play the thing on Froyo (HTC stock ROM).... the birds were 'thrown' way too slowly (I don't really know if you guys get the picture)..... and don't even get me started on the keyboard..... it's sublime!!!!!!!! I can finally text at a normal human being's pace instead of waiting half a lifetime for a character to appear on my screen!!!!! (Ok maybe I am being a bit overdramatic.... still it's true)!!

I get your drift mate.
My benchmarking app is copilot.
With the stock rom it was so slow it was barely usable.
With CM7, it flys along and works as well as any Tomtom device I've used.
