Hey Guys!
Ok so I did the 1 touch root via unlocker.com. I am running Amon_RA's lates recovery image. Now I have a couple of questions.
1) Should I change the radio or keep the one that came with mytouch standard?
2) What is the best Hero rom out for TMobile Mytouch users?
3) I see that in recovery mode, there is actually an option that says Format + ext2 etc. Now if I do this am I good to go with any of the hero roms? Or do I have to click on convert to ext3 after I am done with the formatting?
4) With the G1 flashing the radio and spl were a must, on the mytouch do I have to change the spl or am I good with the factory spl?
Thank you for your help!
First, don't load a hero rom until you get AT LEAST a class 4 SD card. And even that is not worth running hero. I suggest an 8gb class-6 from ebay PQI makes the best IMO. While you are waiting try cyanogen, and remember your device is 32B if you bought it from t-mo in the usa.
No need to change the SPL here is what you need to do...
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
After you root you can then follow the next guide for installing roms
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-your-htc-magic/
(make sure you partition to at least ext3)
The ROM you are going to want is Drizzys latest w/ BFS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558017
Get version 1.4r1 -- (vm, cpu, and swapping is already set.)
After you get a hang of things you should get the android SDK, and get good at using the terminal.
Thanks for all this. I really appreciate your input. I have a 4gb class 6 sd card and an 8gb class 2 sd card. Based on what you've said though, I think I will try the 4gb class 6, and if I have issues I will order a class 6 8gb.
Thank you once again!
Does the one click root also unroot with one click? thanks

Can someone point into the right direction on doing the apps to sd card process? I downloaded Paragon and all the files and now I am wondering which link to follow? Sorry I tried another process and my G1 would just stay at the boot up screen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512743 I am a little confused on this link? I have a 1gb card that is already formatted...in which order do I follow the steps?
You aren't giving us much information to go on. What build are you running? That method uses Unionfs, not all builds support that method.
As stated, we are going to need more information on the ROM you are running.
If you are using Cyanogen's Recovery, you can do all the partitioning from the Console.
JF 1.5 and JF Heros theme
I followed the steps on the link below to do the hero rom my G1, did the root, rom and then when I got to the apps to sd process, the phone just stayed on boot up with the G1 screen.

Well that's even more confusing, because you have mentioned two different ROM's with two completely different A2SD methods. JAC Hero uses automatic A2SD if you have an ext2/3 partition, so if you do you should be good to go. If you just want cupcake, I'd go with Cyanogen's build. Has everything JF1.5 does and more, but it also has automatic A2SD aslong as you have ext2/3. Hope that helped, please try to be more explicit
Sorry
My first on all this and it does get confusing when i try to do it.
I have a G1 that has been updated with the 1.5, i followed the steps to root, install a rom, I used JF files as I followed the link above...While trying to do save the apps to sd card process with the linda manger and trying to set the part on the sd card, something went wrong. it doesnt work for me, my G1 just stays on the G1 screen on boot up....so i had to reload the JF rom...
This is what I would like to do:
1. Do the apps to sd card process
2. Get the Hero rom on my G1
I am stuck on #1 before I can do #2

Ahh thank you, this clears things up.
Apps2SD is dependent on the ROM, so when you get A2SD on one ROM and want to switch to another you have to start again (not always, but that's besides the point ). So, forget about A2SD on JF, because you go to hero it will break.
What you need to do, is format the Fat32, ext3 and linux-swap, then install the Jac Hero ROM. Please ignore that Jac Hero video you linked to, it will just complicate things. After you have partitioned that card correctly, you also need to upgrade the SPL. This is risky, you could brick the device, but as long as you follow the directions you will be fine.
You have several options for formatting the card
1) Buying Paragon 9 for windows
2) Using a live Ubuntu cd
3) using the terminal in cyanogens recovery image
Easiest is using cyanogen's recovery image
you can find it here : here
afterwards format the card using the guide on the Jac Hero page
Ok I'm a newbie and sorry to be asking so many questions but I should format my sd card to fat32 and ext3 and linux-swap?
I have Paragon 9 for windows and would prefer to do it this way, so the sd card will have 3 parts?
And then I can just load the Hero Rom as you suggested?
I am so excited I have to give props to this link
Best link ever!!!!!!!!!!! Have Hero on my G1, its laggy but I am excited to put on the Mytouch when it comes out

This linked helped so much and I did the install in less then 10 minutes since all the other links were confusing me, I recommend this link for newbs like me....
I am amazed at the hero software its cool
Hey,
Now I have finally got my replacement LCD for my G1 I can get back to hacking it , It appears you get left behind in whats going on very quickly and was wondering about Hero on my G1...
I know I need to update the SPL and Radio, luckily I have a PVT board, but can I go to 1.5 Cupcake ADP if I want to go back to it from Hero, for example just apply the 1.5 update.zip to go back?
As far as I am aware I just format and partition my SD card, update the Radio, then the SPL, then apply the Hero update file and I am good to go?
Thanks

Yup, that's it
Flash the radio
Flash the SPL
Flash the Hero Rom
and to get back to 1.5ADP just wipe then flash that Rom

Oh yeah! I
It's not essential but highly reccomended if you want more than 20mb for apps and better performance. You don't have to use Cyan's recovery, Paragon and Gparted work fine..
I did it, I partitioned it using Paragon, I first used a 30mb swap and then tried a 100mb and actually I did see quite a big jump in performance... any tips on getting this to run just that little bit smoother other than not using a class 4 card?

Not really, tbh. You can change the swappiness value in the /system/bin/a2sd file. There was another thread very recently where someone was walked through the process so have a look for that. Otherwise just try to use a couple of widgets. When I'm on Hero I only use the clock, weather and twitter.
is it because i have a class 2 memory card?
it lags and i get the htc screen alot after i exit from an app.
if i get a class 6, will the phone run as smooth as it did with the stock rom on there?
Which ROM are you using? Could be something else.
If you are rocking a class 2 card, you might want to not use the Apps2SD feature of rooted roms, you have plenty of space on the phone.
When I first rooted my MT3G I wasnt using the SD card for apps and it ran so much faster on the Cyanogen ROM than on the stock ROM.
im using the one click method. im fairly new to the whole rooting stuff, so im not to savvy just yet.
i believe it runs off the memory card if im not mistaken
Be mindful.

If you utilized the One-Click Root Method (correctly) you shouldn't have immediately run into any issues. In fact, if you played it safe and flashed a Cyanogen ROM - hopefully stable at first...then you should be in great shape. Obviously, since that doesn't appear to be the case. Consider this:
- Upgrading your card to a Class 6, the rewrite speeds exceed that of the standard Class 2 and 4 cards.
- Wipe, re-flash, and install your applications to a reformatted SD card.
- If your card isn't partitioned to some extent, might I suggest that you search a tutorial on HOW-TO (one you can fully understand) partition the card properly.
- Always, always, always...NANDROID backup a fully functional ROM - just in case you should ever encounter a problem.

if you are running hero, it will be slow... if you want a fast rom for the mytouch, try cyanogen or jacxrom
How do I disable the apps2sd feature? I'm running cyanogen 4.0.4 if that makes a difference
if you dont have linux ext partitions in the sd card, it wont do it.
Looking at Thursday. My G1 has recently started to have issues with its hardware keyboard. I've decided to upgrade. I've recently been reading around researching, etc. So far...
1) I see two methods of Rooting. Either Anon_Ra's method (Gold card. ) or the One-step method with the security exploit. Other than the simplicity, is the one step method safe? I'd do the gold card since I'll have an 8GB and a 4GB card handy. I also have a 512MB card.
2) Can Cyanogen's Pimped Out Recovery 1.4 run on the MT3G?
3) When I first get the MT3G shall there be any radio or SPL updates before even touching rooting?
4) What is HBoot?
5) I'd like to run A2SD, and with Cyanogen's Pimped Out Recovery console I can partition a card within 2-3mins. If COR doesn't work on the MT3G what will?
Just out of interest, why don't you get a Hero rather than a MT3G? If I was upgrading from a G1 I think that would be my choice.
Anyhow, here are my opinions:
1) The one step method seems to be safe. I haven't seen any threads from people bricking their phones using the one step method.
2) Maybe. I'm using Amon_RA's recovery image which does all the same stuff.
3) No - read the sapphire hacking wiki, your questions are answered in there! - its a sticky thread at the top of the rom development board
4) What is HBoot? Indicates the type of SPL you have installed
5) The Amon_RA recovery image can partition your card like this. But you don't need to use A2SD on the MT3G. It has more than enough space for app and cache storage on the phone (which will provide faster read/write than storing it on the sd card). It even has enough space for a swap file on the phone storage rather than a dedicated swap partition.
Hello all, I appear to have gotten myself in quite a predicament while attempting to load gingeryoshi on my Mytouch 3G 1.2. After hours of reading, flashing new SPLs, H-boots, radios, recoveries, I have reached a point of impasse. The device will not boot, I have S-On so no fastbooting can be done, and I cannot get into recovery. I also did not make a goldcard Because of this, I cannot appear to modify the phone at all anymore, and it's pretty much stuck . Any advice on how to get the phone back to stock, or even better, running CM or yoshi, would be very much appreciated I don't have phone with me right now, but I will post H-boot information when I get home. And yes, I did search, I've been searching this forum for hours :/
You can use any other android htc phone to make the gold card. Gold card only depends on the SD card.
By the way, what is the main version of you MT3G 1.2?
fastboot getvar version-main.
The command you gave returns 2.10.531.4. Also, I borrowed my friend's thunderbolt to make the goldcard, and the first failed with a "device model incorrect" or something to that effect. I then tried again with a different SD, and noticed I got the same CID code for both of the cards... they are both SanDisk 4gb cards, one class 2 and one class 4, would it be possible that they have same CID? Was I getting his internal memory CID or something? Either way, no-go. Should my next action be a different SD card or host phone? Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it
Oh, and current H-boot information, if any of it helps:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32ASHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013d
CPLD-13
RADIO-3.22.23.18
No more pointers? I don't really know what else to do. Do goldcards only work with certain cards? I heard somewhere that Kingston cards are best, would it be worth getting one?
It is impossible to get the same cid number for two different sd cards.
Have you follow the instruction here?
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=TMobile_myTouch_Fender/1.2:_Rooting
. I am using one 2gb kingston sd card and one 8 gb sdhc WINTEC sd card. Both of them works well.

Ok. Looks like I'll have to find someone else with an HTC phone. I think my friend's thunderbolt was producing the CID of its internal memory or something. Thanks a lot for the replies!
