Mytouch 3g 1.2 (3.5mm headphone) fastboot/S-ON/goldcard Predicament - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hello all, I appear to have gotten myself in quite a predicament while attempting to load gingeryoshi on my Mytouch 3G 1.2. After hours of reading, flashing new SPLs, H-boots, radios, recoveries, I have reached a point of impasse. The device will not boot, I have S-On so no fastbooting can be done, and I cannot get into recovery. I also did not make a goldcard Because of this, I cannot appear to modify the phone at all anymore, and it's pretty much stuck . Any advice on how to get the phone back to stock, or even better, running CM or yoshi, would be very much appreciated I don't have phone with me right now, but I will post H-boot information when I get home. And yes, I did search, I've been searching this forum for hours :/

You can use any other android htc phone to make the gold card. Gold card only depends on the SD card.
By the way, what is the main version of you MT3G 1.2?
fastboot getvar version-main.

The command you gave returns 2.10.531.4. Also, I borrowed my friend's thunderbolt to make the goldcard, and the first failed with a "device model incorrect" or something to that effect. I then tried again with a different SD, and noticed I got the same CID code for both of the cards... they are both SanDisk 4gb cards, one class 2 and one class 4, would it be possible that they have same CID? Was I getting his internal memory CID or something? Either way, no-go. Should my next action be a different SD card or host phone? Thanks a lot for your help. I really appreciate it
Oh, and current H-boot information, if any of it helps:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32ASHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0013d
CPLD-13
RADIO-3.22.23.18

No more pointers? I don't really know what else to do. Do goldcards only work with certain cards? I heard somewhere that Kingston cards are best, would it be worth getting one?

It is impossible to get the same cid number for two different sd cards.
Have you follow the instruction here?
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=TMobile_myTouch_Fender/1.2:_Rooting
. I am using one 2gb kingston sd card and one 8 gb sdhc WINTEC sd card. Both of them works well.

Ok. Looks like I'll have to find someone else with an HTC phone. I think my friend's thunderbolt was producing the CID of its internal memory or something. Thanks a lot for the replies!

One Click Root complete..now a couple of questions

Hey Guys!
Ok so I did the 1 touch root via unlocker.com. I am running Amon_RA's lates recovery image. Now I have a couple of questions.
1) Should I change the radio or keep the one that came with mytouch standard?
2) What is the best Hero rom out for TMobile Mytouch users?
3) I see that in recovery mode, there is actually an option that says Format + ext2 etc. Now if I do this am I good to go with any of the hero roms? Or do I have to click on convert to ext3 after I am done with the formatting?
4) With the G1 flashing the radio and spl were a must, on the mytouch do I have to change the spl or am I good with the factory spl?
Thank you for your help!
First, don't load a hero rom until you get AT LEAST a class 4 SD card. And even that is not worth running hero. I suggest an 8gb class-6 from ebay PQI makes the best IMO. While you are waiting try cyanogen, and remember your device is 32B if you bought it from t-mo in the usa.
No need to change the SPL here is what you need to do...
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
After you root you can then follow the next guide for installing roms
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-your-htc-magic/
(make sure you partition to at least ext3)
The ROM you are going to want is Drizzys latest w/ BFS here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558017
Get version 1.4r1 -- (vm, cpu, and swapping is already set.)
After you get a hang of things you should get the android SDK, and get good at using the terminal.
Thanks for all this. I really appreciate your input. I have a 4gb class 6 sd card and an 8gb class 2 sd card. Based on what you've said though, I think I will try the 4gb class 6, and if I have issues I will order a class 6 8gb.
Thank you once again!
Does the one click root also unroot with one click? thanks

Cannot Downgrade MT3G to 1.5 - Model ID Incorrect! even with GoldCard

I searched a lot and was unable to find a solution. The simple story is that I keep getting Model ID Incorrect! error when trying to downgrade, even when using goldcard.
Here is more detail of my situation:
I got a new replacement phone (MT3G) from T-Mobile, it says this on HBOOT:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0007 (SAPP30000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.23.02
I followed all methods for downgrading including goldcard (I tried with both Sandisk 4GB and Samsung 1GB, tested and was able to read cards on the PC) and still getting the Model ID Incorrect! error.
My only conclusion so far is that the goldcard is not working but I am not sure where I could have gone wrong.
Any help appreciated.
TIA!
Goto the Rom Bible, answer will more than likely be there. I had trouble downgrading mine too till I looked there.
I give up. I read for hours, tried 8 different micro-sd cards, tried using a memory card reader instead of my phone, tried formatting cards on my phone. I was never once able to get the card to be readable after editing with the hex editor after ejecting it (it was sometimes readable if I did not eject it but the I would get the Model ID Incorrect! error).
Anyway, that is it for me. I know I am probably doing something wrong but can't figure out what it is....
Let me just say that it's ****ed up nobody answered your response in the last 10 months, though it is still here and shows up in GOogle search...
Mytouch 3G and Mytouch 3G slides always have this issue-- EVERY FORUM IS LEFT HANGING. I've seen around 100 responses un-answered... So does one person just sell it to the next person and get a new phone?
Seriously- I've tried multiple cards... sappimg files...fastboot commands... superoneclick (at setup screen )......goldcard tool... hex editor... format on pc.. phone.. etc.. OVER AND OVER.
This phone is put here by the devil. Period.

You should try that in an actual card reader instead of using the phone as one

sappimg - need help

I am using the unlockr how to root for the mytouch 1.2. When I try to Hboot the bootloader will not read the sappimg. It just says no image file. I have done everything the unlockr suggests. For some reason sappimg is just not being read.
That being said I am using a sandisk 256mb microsd. I followed the goldcard instructions to the T. And everything worked, everything. Until I put the goldcard in the phone and tried to hboot. Hboot simply said no image file found.
Is it because I am using a sandisk microSD?
Does your computer read the sd card after you've edited the hex? If not, you'll need to try another card.
Yes, everything works until the hboot. No image file, is what it says.
your comment kind of worries me. I thought the reason would be the sandisk card, but everything works with the gold card. When I insert the gold card and use hboot it just reads "no image file" There must be a very simply fix to this, just know one on the internet seems to know.
since it doesn't find the sappimg file, can i manually flash this file? In other words, can I force the phone to find and load the sappimg.zip file? If so, please explain.
Thanks in advance
In case anyone else searches this topic...the solution to my situation was the sandisk SD card. I purchased a kingston 1 gb w/kingston adapter and it worked perfectly the first time. The sandisk for some reason just doesn't work.

Kingston Micro SD Goldcard Problems, HTC Magic (32B) Vodafone

Hi all, I have Magic 32B (vodafone) and am following this rooting guide.
I got the "Incorrect Model ID" error, so made a goldcard using this guide, the 1st two sd cards i tried were not kingston ones so i wasnt that surprised when the pc said they needed formatting. Earlier i bought a 2gb kingston one and went through the process again, but the same thing happened, i tried again just incase i made a silly mistake but no joy
I followed the guide to the letter im pretty sure, what can i be doing wrong?
Any help very much appreciated.
Are you getting the new CID for each card when your swapping them out? Your apparently messing something up or it would be working.
I am yeah, i just tried a 4th time, the numbers i get (the kingston cards cid, reverse cid are the same each time so it cant be a typo etc.
I replace the 1st 2 chars with 0's to get the goldcard.img, format the kingston (using win7 format, fat32) then rewrite the *000 to *170 on the formatted card, and it wont read it.
Am i formatting it wrong?
Has that program to get the reverse cid changed at all? its called psas now.
Has anything changed about the .img's they email for free? does something else need to be done to it?
Are all kingston cards compatible?
I used a SanDisk when I made mine. Are you sure that your overwritimg the correct lines in HexEditor for the SD card? I ran into that problem ehen I made mine.

Is that correct?
If you are running ubuntu you can do this:
1) if you already have the CID, use these sites (h ttp://hexrev.soaa.me/ and h ttp://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard) to generate the goldcard image
2) insert the SD card into your ubuntu box and run "dmesg" to know were it is attached (something like /dev/sdb1)
3) unmount the SD card using "sudo umount /dev/sdb1" (replace sdb1 by the device you have identified in 2)). It is a good way to be sure that the device you have identified is the good one
4) send the goldcard.img to the SD card using "sudo dd bs=512 if=goldcard.img of=/dev/sdb" (launch it from the place were the goldcard.img is stored, no number here... just sdb)
That's it... you have your goldcard.
As you can see it is very easy... just 2 command line (no hex editor or so on)
To verify just unplug and replug it...
I hope it will help.
O-p
What if youre not running ubuntu?
I ended up rooting using the SuperOneClick method and im happily running ginger yoshi now
Slightly off-topic but 10 posts to be able to post in the forum of the rom you use seems a bit excessive,

[Q] Format the phone to detect Memory Card

Hi xda devs.
happy to join the forum
I just got my new Samsung Focus through eBay itis unlocked and work on any carrier very well.
I also got a PNY 32GB microSD card and it has a sticker in front that says itis now compatible with Windows Phone 7
I have two questions:
First, I need to make sure is this microSD card is REALLY WP7 compatible ?
Second, as the guide said, I need to format the phone to make the microSD card work normally, IF I FORMAT THE PHONE, IS IT WILL BE SIM LOCKED AGAIN OR NOT ?? and Does this FORMAT process is different than Reset your phone in the about page ??
Appreciating any help
Thanks
it wil not relock your phone

Afaik PNY 32GB is class 2 and that is working reliably.
Formatting the phone doesn't affect SIM lock. As I said in another thread:
Updating (re/formatting, flashing etc) the ROM does NOT change the SIM lock.
Locks are in NVRAM - you do not overwrite this section by flashing firmware or formatting. If the device is unlocked, flashing the ROM will keep the phone unlocked.

You're welcome.
You might want to read here, the last 2 posts, someone has a similar card. The whole thread might interest you, actually, as it's about working SD cards for Focus.
