So a year ago when I bought this phone I apparently paid $500 to be a beta tester of an underperforming, premature, lackluster phone. I've lost alot of time behind this phone's malfunctions. yeah it's cool that I can tweak it and write software for it, but if everything locks the phone up whats the point.
well it froze for the 1 millionth and last time this morning. I witnessed "The Flight of the Mogul", and it was freakin awesome.
I'm over cell phones, I'd go back to smoke signals if i didn't run the risk of arson.
i think we all feel your pain. I'm just biding my time until i can afford a replacement. Likely ill wait the one more year or so till my contract is up and go to an iphone lol.
I would have gladly taken that sucker off your hands.
Good, glad to hear it you smashed your mogul. Meanwhile while yours lays in pieces mine is giving me the power playing movies flawlessly in skyfire, giving me perfect voice guided navigation from IGO 8, the piece of mind of the newest windows live speakable search, fast email and texting with a full qwerty keyboard, the power to retrieve files off my desktop at home, perfect access to my IM accounts, and new home screens whenever I grow tired of one. And you know the one thing I haven't worried about since DCD 3.x.x is ram. Everything runs smoothly and transitions like men in your mom's bedroom. Trash the mogul in some other forum, because for the majority of us it works perfectly. Compare it now to the problems the diamond has. I think you'll agree it has far less at this point. I will do fine on carrying me into the next generation. Nothing except the touch hd is really worth getting excited about right now and it is having trouble making it to the US. Why don't you just go get a blackberry storm? It is easier to use for you.

I'm happy for you. I admit that the only thing I haven't done is flash to a custom ROM, believe it or not I downloaded the latest DCD this weekend but never got around to it. I think the moral to the story is that the ability to customize a device with unofficial ROM's should not be the saving grace of an otherwise poor performing device. I believe that it should be an extra, cool thing to do for geek cred, not because the phone sucks otherwise. what's so hard about optimizing the phone for its hardware before release.
I've been riding it out for a long time, thru all the updates and ports of apps from other HTC's. So i think I'll just wait until the Raphael is improved upon, atleast it has a reasonable amount of memory.

I feel you. a friend of mine has it, and it's nice, but i can't roll with Verizon, plus i dont want to be apart of the crackberry scene, and i dont want to sell my soul to Apple, so I'll probably stick with WM, At the end of the day, m$ has the most mature API. i been drinkin their koolaid for my entire career.
but in the meantime I guess I'll resort to some good 'ol fashioned yodeling.
If you have had this much trouble than no matter how you look at it, the only reason you've had so much trouble is user error. If you don't know how to properly install and cook apps and roms, then get the f out of the kitchen homie. The mogul is for people who understand devices and computers or for those who want to learn. If you are looking for a cool devices that has not even a quarter of the programing capabilities than buy a storm or iphone. They are pretty. Or buy the diamond or the touch pro and be in the same boat. The mogul is old now and it still is running with the big boys and now more than ever doing it reliably. You have a problem with installing custom roms. Its called sdk my friends. Windows did the bare minimum to release the platform and then put it in the developers hands. Developers like dcd that have more talent in their little finger than most the people at microsoft or blackberry or apple. Wait for the standard blackberry and apple updates then as they are behind from the moment they are released. And mark my words, if you have trouble with the mogul you will have trouble with any htc device. They all have their ups and downs though the touch and the mogul's downs are pretty close to having them all worked out.

Good one. Loewst, sir, as much as I enjoy this written pissing contest with you I think what's said and done is said and done. You're an idiot and broke one of the top 15 if not top ten devices out there, which I'm not entirely sure you did. Probably woke up this morning and decided to put up a bull**** post because you were bored. Whatever the case this is probably my last post for today because I get out of work in an hour. Enjoy your smashed plastic. I buy and move so many moguls to people that love them that proves you to be just a little drama queen. Peace out.

ok Sweety Puss.
i don't take it personal. but yes i did smash my phone. lol.
I feel for you.
Just today I opened up the Media Player, went to the music library, and noticed one of my albums was in there TWICE. I couldn't believe it. I had to do an 'update library' just to get rid of it. I thought about throwing it under a truck. The horror of it all.
I'll bet by this Friday, I'll have even have to do a soft reset again. I already did one LAST WEEK. Uncalled for.
Flaming POS.
What's funny is that the 6800 seems to have the least appeal to two sets of users. IMO there are four broad categories of users:
1. Casuals
2. Intermediates
3. advanced
4. Pushers
Casuals are people like my mom. You know them. They want a phone but don't know the first thing about how to do anything with them. Believe it or not, the 6800 is just fine for them. You can use the standard WM 6 interface right out of the box and it serves as a very nice pcoket computer and cell phone. You see, casual users don't need a bunch of fancy tricks and special apps. They are happy to simply get a cell phone, camera, qwerty key board, and push email and pim. Nevertheless, casual users are apt to enjoy the neat interface of the iphone or storm.
Intermediates are very likely not to enjoy the 6800. Why? Because they know just enough to be dangerous. Just enough to flash a ROM improperly or load up their phone with a hundred apps and then complain when their phone becomes unstable. They get frustrated and do things like throw their phones in the air when they have no one but themselves to blame.
Advanced users, I think, like the 6800 because of its work-horse reputation, functionality, and its modability. Advanced users know how to keep their phones trim and fit and in good shape so that it doesn't crash all the time. They know how to mange their ROM and use the phone with as great efficiency as possible.
Pushers like to push the boundaries of the phone world. They are not happy unless they have the latest and greatest of everything. Latest features....latest hardware....latest software. Pushers will hate the 6800, just as they will, frankly, end up hating anything that was released more than 3 months ago. Why? Because vy then the next latest and greatest gadget is released and, by God, they have to have it!
I LOVE my 6800. It does almost everything I could ask of it. The only thing it really lacks, IMO, is a g-sensor, and so far other than the cute use as a bubble level for handyman work, all of the g-sensor stuff seems to fit in the amusing pout pointless category.
People are constantly amazed at what my 6800 can do. I have had iphone users, even after the app store opened, literally downtrodden after everything they showed me they could do I could do and then I went on and did about a dozen things they could not do.
I have complete voice navigation and gps. I have finger friendly and flick friendly apps up the ying-yang. I get the full web experience and can view streaming videos and flash and you tube on the net.
I have voice activation. I have weather. I have swappable memory (try that iphone freaks) and have every single song and most of my movie library on my phone. I recently took a 12 hour flight by myself in a jet that had a power outlet at every seat and I needed nothing with me but my phone to keep me not only out of boredom but actually entertained.
My 6800 is my office...anywhere I go. I can access my desktop at work remotely. I can not only view but create and edit Word and Excel docs. Need a quick deal memo during an important business meeting at lunch? I can take notes with my stylus BY HAND, then type them up into a Word Doc deal memo and email it to an office to have it printed. I can then run some figures in Pocket Excel to project the proceeds from the deal. All in the restaurant over lunch.
And I have yet to see ANY software keyboard come close to the hardware keyboard of the 6800. The iphone keyboard sucks. So does the diamond and the storm. They all suck...by definition. My hardware keyboard is large, usable with my big thumbs, and doesn't take up an inch of screen real estate. Can you say that of the iphone? The storm? The Touch?
I fully understand the RAM issue, but holy crud...just how many toys do you need running at the same time on your phone? I do plenty on the 6800 and I don't mind the RAM. Yeah, I suppose it could load in 2 seconds instead of 4. But who except a PUSHER would care?
Devin
Nicely put Devin! I don't think I love my Mogul quite as much as you, but it will do till significantly better hardware comes my way.
Some people take this hobby a bit to seriously. others, apparently need anger management counseling. in the end, it's just another PPC. an I bet the OP is just eating all this attention up. reminds me of my over spoiled girlfriends kids. wannna just whack em with a newspaper! heh. Just need to find out where and how we can get this...
I just signed up for a preview on their website. I can't see myself using the whole interface if I didn't have to, but I sure would like a few of those widgets.
Look interesting in theory, though it could be less gimmicky and then I'd be more likely to buy it. Also noteworthy, that video was running on an HTC Hero. Imagine how it would run on the N1.
I signed up as well, we need to get a hold of this!
very nice ****.
gotta admit, that's pretty slick looking. would like to preview before purchase, but would consider a purchase if not to 'spensive
I also signed up, this looks interesting.
Signed up as well. VERY excited about this!
Does look interesting...signed up.
Signed up as well! I would love to give it a try.
Also signed up. Slick looking UI design. One of the things about the Hero I'm missing since getting my N1 is well designed widgets. The widgets on TAT Home look amazing. And gesture controls really look sweet.
I'm convinced.
ANY PRICE they ask, within reason, I'd be willing to pay!
I guess, what, $50? Would be too high, soo ... anything below that!
Too bubbly a design for my taste (even SenseUI for android falls into that for me, lol), but to each his own. I could see how this could open a ton of doors for the way widgets are done however.
I think there was a point where Sense looked just too flashy, but its evolved into something which adds great value to the user experience. I'm hoping this experience will be similar.
Jumped on the sign-up bandwagon too. I'd love, at the very least, that music widget.
Looks nice! Signed up to give it a try!
This plus Dalvik Turbo.... oh god...
Buhuhump. Buhuhump. Buhuhump.
Is there a release date?
interesting.... I'm willing to give it a shot.
I signed up.
I cant find N64oid in the market anymore. I have a Galaxy S and it used to show up fine, I even checked the website and it wasnt showing p anywhere. any ideas????
I confirm this ... am glad that I didn't buy it
Kris
Yeah its not there anymore =/ Hope its just for a code overhaul and that it will be back soon.
Looks like its a licensing Problem
http://code.google.com/p/n64oid/issues/detail?id=1
Ya that seems to be the problem on all the sites i am reading. something about the source that was used to port over was licensed differently and is not compatible with Google licensing. anyway its off the market!
This is the email I got directly from Yong this morning:
A great number of users are complaining about the compatibility and running performance. I am doing a rewrite of some of the core modules. Don't worry, N64oid will be back much better in 1-2 months.
Thanks for the understanding!

The app is not in the Market because I bet people where looking for legal copies of roms...hahahaha
@k4str0
I received the same email. Looks like it will be back on the market in a couple months. Looking forward to it.
Quite a long time... I guess there's nothing else we could do now but waiting and drinking tea
it was back yesterday for a second then went again!???
It seems unnecessary to remove an app while you perfect it. I've already paid for it, and now I won't be about to install it (via the Market at least) on my new phone in a couple of weeks. Poor show. I hope I won't be expected to pay for it again once it re-releases.
Must be because of the 2-300 morons that left negative rating and saying it was laggy and buggy and couldn't understand that this app was still in development which was clearly stated by the developper. Hope to see it in the market soon, till then, i'll continue playing starfox and super mario!
I don't mind the issue, won't stop me from advancing in Zelda OOT and Mario 64 haha. I have it backed up in Titanium Backup so I will still be using it until he puts it back on, I still am very satisfied ^_^
This makes me sad.
Reviews are easily changed, and that's the way the Market works. If an app improves significantly between releases then I, and plenty of others, will be inclined to revisit their review.
By removing the app altogether, it will prevent people who have bought the game and uninstalled it from reinstalling it in future. That isn't fair. Thankfully I still have it installed, and have made a backup of the APK.
I probably come across as more miffed than I actually am - I'm actually more pleased that he's taking the time to make some significant improvements, provided that I don't end up having to pay again for the re-release.
I don't know why they make such a big deal over "only use LEGAL roms", if you actually buy the games now the developers dont make a dime off of them since they stopped making them ages ago.
Looks like the next round of orders is going to begin soon. If you wanna get in on the action, heres where you apply.
http://store.notionink.com/subscribe.php
Well they will surely get more hits if they release HC first
People would be foolish to buy anything from Notion Ink. There are too many other tablets available... I understand the hardware is decent, but the company provides no support. The glass on mine broke a month ago and I cannot get a response from thier support team on options to get the device fixed. Even if they had the best hardware and software in the world, you have to think about getting your device fixed and/or replaced and their support for this (or anything else is non existent).
Stay away from this company... You will eventually be sorry. Too bad, because the PQi screen had some promise...
Think twice... ir should I say think and think... and don't buy this product.. don't waste your time... I have the lcd version once I open it I can say that im not impressed ... weight, thickness, ui.. so sad to ever waste my money.. until now im trying to convince my self that its a nice tablet.. but there's a saying its hard to fool self.. so take my advice don't bother to even think to buy adam.. now im saving ill get the new samsung 10.1 by june the slim one.

I rather like mine. Easy to plug things into. UI will be resolved soon enough if you don't like it. And its sturdy. If you broke your screen you did something really dumb. That or you're really unlucky. I got it for school. To bad I'm not in school right now to actually use it for such, but I definitely think its the superior product for such application.

They usually get back fast. The main problem I've experienced is getting an email to them. Unless you get the email received receipt, don't even expect a response.

Amon,
A couple of things... I think I referred to the hardware as decent. There are some tablets coming to the market currently that can easily give Adam a run for its money...
As for the cracked screen... Seriously, to call someone names because their screen gets cracked? I can only assume you are a little more mature than that as a fellow Adam owner... I'll go with your second term of "unlucky"...
On to the software... Software can be fixed. It is currently buggy. Enough said on software.
On to the real problem... Support. I am very glad you are getting support responses in a reasonable fashion. But, through my experiences and quite a few other peoples experiences (read on this board, NIH, Tablet, Conclave, the NI blog), support is non-existent. Without support a company cannot survive. Support is directly related to the Total Customer Experience. If the software is buggy, and it is, support can mitigate the perception and keep people on the bandwagon. This is not currently happening.
I hope all the best for NI (heck, I bought one), I just do not think it is a sustainable model for the reasons stated above. This is just my opinion from many years in enterprise technology sales.
All the best,
CCM
For those who can't wait for the next round of orders and still feel like buying one despite what some people are saying you can buy mine here: http://swappa.com/listing/RMC301/view
Just got mine and I am pretty impressed took a little configuring but thats android...
MrGuy and StephenH have really saved the third pre order of ADAM by getting HC work started on ADAM.
Without this news I doubt anybody would have ever ordered an ADAM again.
NI must be mighty pleased
Cheers

Not sure if I like the whole colorfulness samsung always brings to TW. I like the sexy black and dark blue of honeycomb.
I'm up in the air on if I want TW or not. it has some nice features, but I'm worried about the overhead that may slow down the tab a bit.
err why does this belong in development ?

I was wondering the same thing, but I didn't want to start a huge argument like always happens when threads like this are put in the wrong section. A moderator will move it sooner or later. Until then... I guess we could still discuss it
Because it shows of features of the next update. I was debating if I should have put it under general but I figured if it got under someones skin, they could just report it and a moderator would move it.

What is truly funny (or perhaps sad) is that a new thread started in an incorrect location on an internet forum would actually be enough to "get under someone's skin". Nothing makes me laugh more on these forums that those people.
I agree with the posted that is torn between TW's nice features and its less than appealing color scheme. Overall, I'm looking forward to it though. Will devs here on XDA be able to take TouchWiz and make custom TouchWiz-based themes/ROMs?
Speaking of overhead, I have a quick question that probably doesn't deserve its own thread.
I have tried everything I know to stop auto-run processes with a bunch of apps. Obviously, killing an app is almost pointless, as it comes right back. But I've also used Android Assistant to disable certain apps autorun ability, but it seems to be completely ineffective as they just load anyway.
Some of the worst offenders are Wallpaper Wizardrii, Wefi Connect, and News Republic. Both Wefi and News Republic began running themselves with autorun before I'd ever opened either app.
I actually LIKE the light and fruity color scheme
Can't wait for the release. Hopefully it comes soon.
I'm excited for this as well. It doesn't seem overly intrusive, but that is left to be seen. I sold my Tab for a nice profit after purchasing one at the pre-release in NYC, but I'm hoping to get another shortly. Just looking for the right price.
Sent from my Optimized Shift using XDA App
Yeah from what I can tell, it looks like its not a totally overhauled and skinned OS, which is refreshing, but rather the stock HC with some actually pleasant looking enhancements (loving the notification area with toggles!). Of course I'll still nandroid before running the update in the event that I don't like it for some reason.
My other concern is that it does sound like the additional functionality updates (USB host, etc) are bundled in with this TouchWiz update, though needless to say its a guarantee that within days the XDA community will have picked it apart and .zip's will be available for those who just want to add the new functionality minus the TouchWiz
