Has anyone seen this?
Looks wicked !!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOGmnnGpoqg
Just need to find out where and how we can get this...
I just signed up for a preview on their website. I can't see myself using the whole interface if I didn't have to, but I sure would like a few of those widgets.
Look interesting in theory, though it could be less gimmicky and then I'd be more likely to buy it. Also noteworthy, that video was running on an HTC Hero. Imagine how it would run on the N1.
I signed up as well, we need to get a hold of this!
very nice ****.
gotta admit, that's pretty slick looking. would like to preview before purchase, but would consider a purchase if not to 'spensive
I also signed up, this looks interesting.
Signed up as well. VERY excited about this!
Does look interesting...signed up.
Signed up as well! I would love to give it a try.
Also signed up. Slick looking UI design. One of the things about the Hero I'm missing since getting my N1 is well designed widgets. The widgets on TAT Home look amazing. And gesture controls really look sweet.
I'm convinced.
ANY PRICE they ask, within reason, I'd be willing to pay!
I guess, what, $50? Would be too high, soo ... anything below that!
Too bubbly a design for my taste (even SenseUI for android falls into that for me, lol), but to each his own. I could see how this could open a ton of doors for the way widgets are done however.
I think there was a point where Sense looked just too flashy, but its evolved into something which adds great value to the user experience. I'm hoping this experience will be similar.
Jumped on the sign-up bandwagon too. I'd love, at the very least, that music widget.
Looks nice! Signed up to give it a try!
This plus Dalvik Turbo.... oh god...
Buhuhump. Buhuhump. Buhuhump.
Is there a release date?
interesting.... I'm willing to give it a shot.
I signed up.

T-Mobile is calling it the "first phone with social skills" because of it's facebook, twitter, and flicker integration. I guess the HTC Hero doesn't count.
But damn, the graphics on Motorola's flavor of Android are effing ugly. Not looking forward to this at all. Makes me appreciate Hero all that much more.
I actually really like the design, colors, and everything about it.
But the real question is, would all the available "Android Development" roms/rooting/themes...etc still work on the Motorola Cliq? Or do we have to wait until someone else makes it possible to root etc. the phone
Wouldn't work, the ways that we have now are htc based and with each new device there would have to be a different way of rooting based on the nature of the beast
Yeah but if you look at the hardware specs of the Cliq arent they practically the same as the HTC android phones...processor wise and what not?
saw this hours ago and im rly rly rly happy i've been a huge fan of motorola, first phone that i have was a c650 and i flashed it 'till it died ( joking ) but then i got a v360 and v3i and they were rly rly nice phones i still got 'em and now a moto v8 and all of this devices are good, not great but good and im rly happy that motorola has finally showed a great phone, with android, his own special ui ( motoblur ) and some really nice specs and im gonna get one of these cliq phones .
btw, sry if i misspelled something u.u or say something in the wrong ways, its just that im from argentina and well i do not speak english every day i speak spanish .
I can't believe you guys like this thing. The widgets look insanely cheeseball compared to the Hero. It's just a standard looking Android OS with some horrible looking widgets.
There is no trackball or call button either, and in the video, it doesn't even appear to run all that fast.
I don't see why this is a "next great move" in Android phones, I'm really disappointed, I expected something so much bigger as Android matures.

While that may be technically true, T-Mobile UK has the Hero.
It's still just kind of lame, overall. It's not faster, still has almost no built in storage, it seems to bring almost nothing to the table other than some poorly designed widgets.
However, I think the real test will be how much it sells for. If T-Mobile gets this in at a $49.99 or less price point, then it's not really that bad. Ultimately I think I'd just like to see a lot more Android phones hitting the hands of users.

Most likely cyan or another dev will port the entire thing over. We won't know until they get their hands on it.
For instance, Cyan can't add the HTC widgets and specific features to the Hero, as they rely on the HTC Framework, which can't be ported to another ROM.
We won't know if Motorola's is as locked down until we have it.
However, the good news is, the specs for the device are the same as the G1 - so it should run perfectly fine on the G1 hardware. Which I guess is kind of nice that we can continue to use our phones for a long time with the latest Android releases
Engadget hands on
I really like how Motorola has gone even further than HTC with social network integration (universal inbox, contact list, etc.). The widgets do look a little disappointing though.
Unfortunately, it looks like it runs a little slow (aren't some hero builds running faster on G1's right now?) but hopefully the software will be optimized when it's actually released.
Now for someone to get a system dump and port to the Dream...
I think this OS is sweet, a nice break from the same things weve been staring at for the past 8 months.
And despite the hate for the widgets, I think they're pretty damn sweet. Whoever was stating that the Hero had issues with its widgets running smoothly with the same specs has to realize that its probably because of how the software was written.
I'm pretty sure Motorola took that into account after hearing the horror stories about HTC.

They run as 2 completely separate companies though. (T-Mobile US and T-Mobile UK). Nothing that TMUS does effects the UK and vice versa.
T-Mobile UK is soon to merge with Orange UK... Both of which provide the Hero lol.

I agree and it's great that we are finally seeing some different flavours or android... something which makes android so unique, you can pick something different yet experience the same apps etc as everyone else.
I can't wait to see more of Sony Ericsson's interface and no doubt Samsung and LG will be working on their own aswell. I really wish Nokia would get on board though!

Nokia's putting out their N900 with Maemo 5 interface. It's coming to T-mo US, and I have to admit... I'm VERY interested! That being said, I love Android and it's a key time for the OS right now. Any broadening of the foundation of the Android footprint is good. Higher end phones will build on that foundation.
Gross! The widgets are ugly and rely on the use of outside sources (facebook, twitter, MYSPACE) who even uses Myspace these days?
This is a good addition if you're interested in being even more creepy with up to the second information about your "friends".
I'm dissapointed.

The N900 looks sick... but expect it to be 50000000% more than the Cliq lol
i agree that the widgets look kind of boring but having them up there is up to you.

actually it is true... tmobile US and tmobile UK are different companies with different plans and offerings. i.e. a lot of tmobile UK smartphones are free under certain circumstances.
and plus the moto cliq supposed to be priced around $99.
It's crazy. The phone is great, it's what I've wanted for years. I got it just today and besides having to get used to the on-screen keyboard I must say it is the best phone I have ever used.
The Rhodium, in retrospect, was a clunky machine, and one of the best windows had to offer. This late in the game though, just an antiquated OS. I am so happy to be done with a Windows.
Why the thread?
Do you, geeks that we are, find no one in your immediate circle who understands?
I got home and am soooo satisfied win my decision, no longer having to tinker and be OCD, I know, not very geeky. Just I think I have been spending a bit to much time modifying and not enjoying my phone. I also didn't want be in he hands of Steve and the fruit phone.
Any similar stories...
Mine stopped vibrating after 5 seconds, apart from that great phone.
Quick tip: Setup haptic feedback on the keyboard if you haven't already. It truly makes a touchscreen keyboard 5x easier to use/learn.
I'm basing my opinion on haptic with the N1 vs. non-haptic w/ my iTouch. It's nice to have "something" that tells you that you just pressed something.
Also, learn to use the auto-correct. Especially holding down new words/names that it normally "tries" to auto-correct. (Such as "app(s), Haha, and various others that the phone tries to correct to really odd words) (Haha, will default to BAHAMAS!!!... WTF?)
Just thought I'd try to be useful
I know exactly what you mean... I got a TyTN II and the first thing I did was flash a custom ROM so it would actually be useable... then, after about 6 months, I found out I could run Android on it... really well! After a couple months of looking at it, I finally took the plunge to see what Android was all about, not thinking I would be blown away, especially considering I was running it on a WM device.
What did I discover? Android ran better on my Kaiser than WM did! I was hooked, and a couple months later got myself a G1 to replace the Kaiser... The G1 still had some issues, IMO, in terms of speed and found myself still flashing customer ROMs, but it wasn't out of total neccesity at least.. and now, I have a Nexus One, which is hands down the best phone I have ever experienced! I don't even feel like it is needed to put a custom ROM on it, I have and will again, but the stock experience is more than fulfilling!
Mate, I get the exact same feeling.. No one really "gets" me when it comes to this phone.
It's just a phone they say, what does it do that your HTC Diamond doesn't? Seriously.. the only thing I can come up with, is it has a flash.. But we know it's so much more than that, don't we?
I've already been told by a few people; "oh don't buy googles first phone, it'll have lots of bugs, you should wait till the second release." Little do they know nor understand.
First moment I got my Diamond I flashed it because it had too much carrier crap on it. Who wants everything to be customized by someone else.. Seriously..
*Eagerly awaiting my new shiny phone*
I was quite surprised by no real bugs to be seen or heard of myself. I was wary of the purchase, but easily the best one I ever decided upon.
I'm still trying to see if the great developer folks figure out a re-lock... But every day I'm considering rooting... Ugh!
I can connect to my home PC (Edit: from anywhere with 3G) and mouse and keyboard around on it using the Remote RDP program for Android. I find this impresses people fairly well.
I'm fine with using Gmote for free to pull any music/video to my phone... Still haven't hopped onto the paid apps bandwagon yet. Still working my way through the free apps, to get a grasp on what I like, and don't like.
But, it would be nice to have even more control remotely. I'm just staying in minimal-mode for a bit.
I'm surrounded by iPhone and BB users, most of which are completely, utterly technologically illiterate--I'm talking about people who don't even understand processor speeds/RAM size, so they can't even appreciate how fast the Snapdragon is. People who aren't users of either want one. "Android" is like Greek to them.
I do know a few geeky people, but they're rare around here. :/

I did the exact same thing man. I had the first gen iPhone for about a month, hated it. Then got the AT&T tilt, and flashed a custom rom on it. I worked at T-Mobile, and my co-workers would say, I should just go work for at&t lol, then I finally got the G1 a week before launch and fell in love with android. Its the best OS I could have asked for and knew it would be a winner. Then up until 2 days ago, I finally received the nexus one and WOW, it is so much faster, i'm still shocked. I haven't rooted or installed a new rom because I don't think it needs it. It runs great stock. Awesome phone, that I think only us xda nerds know how to appreciate. It really a great device upgrade for those of us who had stuck with the G1 for so long.
Nice feedback
I made a thread saying why I moved in the Rhodium forum and should have known better. I just wanted to share. They are letting me have it.
But it is so true, this device is a great medium. Customizable, elegant, powerful, what more could we ask for(lets further he Convo)?
Glad you guys love it. I'm looking forward to getting one for my wifey while I get the HD2.
Well then she can hang with the best and you can hang with the rest
I tend to explain the phone as "a netbook with a phone feature that fits in you hand." The specs truly are that of a netbook.

Man you don't understand miui then. The general standpoint on a design for an icon is universal. Just because the iPhone used the format first doesn't make it there's. Android is all about open and customization without too much work. IPhone doesn't offer widgets or ease of notifications. Android does. Just because miui looks like the iPhone doesn't mean it is. Miui is heavily based on backend mods. Stiff if implemented right can be a lot better than anything. I'm on miui right now and I love it. Sure its a little different but its functional for a heavy user if configured right with good placement of widgets and folders and icons.
Next time you hate on something... just don't. Everyone is working hard to bring the end user something useable and not trash. Either contribute or leech. If you leech don't comment bs like that.

I understand the whole don't hate on anything idea, and I agree with it. You like MIUI,it is your opinion and thats fine. I tried it for about a week, and it has a few elements that I do like, but as a whole,it felt too much like the iPhone for my taste. And this is after having both the original iPhone and the iPhone 3g,as well as the g1,cliq,cliq xt,hd2,and now the nexus. I have used all the operating systems, and if 2.3=MIUI,My nexus is going to continue to run enomther's theofficial like it has been.
Honestly, if MIUI really did contain elements of Gingerbread (like all the rumors everyone refers to), do you really think Google would just let it slide? Why can't we all realize that these devs put in some effin MAJOR framework overhauls into froyo, and didn't steal it from Google? If I was a dev behind MIUI, I'd be PISSED if people said that.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/02/rim-buys-tat-blackberry-ui-in-danger-of-becoming-awesome/
So, is anyone else sad that RIM bought TAT? Those of you that don't know, TAT helped with and polished the original Android interface for the G1 and helped us get to what we all know and love today in Android. Not to mention they have 3 awesome live wallpapers on the market, plus they have that awesome TAT Home homescreen replacement that never got to see the light of day... yes, it was supposed to be an OEM homescreen replacement, but it would have been nice to see it released sometime. *sigh* I'm actually surprised Google didn't purchase them first, given what they've put into Android in the past and what they can obviously do with it now.
I am very surprised that a buttoned up, un innovative company like RIM snatched them up. They must be terrified of iOS and Android (rightly so) to step so far out of their comfort zone.

I think after their current os overhaul sort of fell flat they are desperate for something to keep people interested. Something more than color and icon changes.
I'm not really sad, I really want RIM to get back in the game, since it's a Canadian company and I'm proud of having technology companies in here...I wouldn't like if it RIM died out just like Nortel did, would suck badly to get overhauled by American companies only...
Although, RIM really has to work its ass off to make better stuff...I mean, the torch has a suckier cpu and same camera as the Nexus which came out almost a year ago...they really need to get some exclusive things...now, they even lost what was pretty much the only "exclusive" feature, being the BlackBerry Messenger...they are now in court with Kik just for that matter
It'd pretty easy to make some sparkly beautiful UI . Its another to make it work properly with available hardware.

Check out tat home, the 2d-3d list and map Apps as well as their XML based interfaces. Tat is good at what they do when they are given free reign. IMO they could have done great things for android, I think Google restricts to keep things simple rather than flashy as android is supposed to be able to operate on devices of different power.
You know to tell you the truth: competition is always good for us the customer. Apple vs. Android isn't enough and even Google can get lazy. Hopefully RIM will FINALLY help push the industry forward.
Also, I'm looking at getting a Playbook to connect to my Nexus One via free wifi hotspot. Maybe this will make the Playbook a better product in the future, which again, helps all of us at the end of the day.
Apple and Google don't need TAT...RIM certainly does. They finally have shown some life with this acquisition.
as a former RIM developer I'm couldn't sign the statement "RIM is innovative".
The hardware is very powerfull, but the OS is way behind, OS6 is nothing but a polished GUI on top of OS5. BES the core strength of RIM is losing ground, just as RIM did within 1 year dropping stocks approx. 50%.
If a little theme with a few SVG lines can bend down a 1ghz device, there's nothing to feel sad, but for the customer wasting a lot of money. Not intended to get into a flame, but since the question popped up, here's my 2 cents.

The hardware itself is indeed very "solid' and extremely reliable, thus the incredible business use of BlackBerry. The specs, though, fall short in today's standards!
Hopefully, they will come up with something nice soon, before they get forgotten in oblivion

I have. Theyre beautiful. But so was Xperias Android UI.
Concept designs for Android have been gorgeous and "futuristic" but they all flop if they even bother seeing light of day.
If you want to say its Google restricting I wont argue. Im sure they refuse to add anything that hampers there backbone. But seeing how cooliris got free reign and we ended up with a slow , low res Gallery app im more prone to thinking HW simply is not up to the point to handle these interfaces.
At the end of the day its another case of a looming update with no sign of UI overhaul. I dont have "major" issues with current UI. But its clear that these big leaps being shown just arent happening. I cant fathom why Google would simply say no. There has to be another reason. Maybe the Sidekick/Palm guy wasnt to keen on them ?
WebOS UI > Android/Ios/BB anyways.
Haha, good point about the gallery. Cooliris really did fail on that one. I hope it either gets better or gets replaced in future versions of android.
All of their products are so surperfulous and gaudy.
At least rim products won't be called boring anymore.
Its sad that all that android code is going to waste without it being released.
Since they did not give anything to the community, and decided to abandon android, I wish them all the best with RIM...good riddance.
Ok so i have had the fascinate for a while. I switched to Verizon because they have the best service in my area. I was on ATT with Iphone before.
The phone feels cheap but a great screen
It feels smooth when useing the apps but horribly slow when using the UI itself.
99% of the market is themes and ringtones.
No new games all are ports and old games that I had on the iphone a year ago.
The UI is ugly to me unless I use Launcherpro then it gets Nice. There are no Good scrollable widgets in the market at all. So far without Launcherpro widgets would be pointless!
The GPS lock time is horrible (Yes I know theres a fix coming, which some say realy does nothing)
Ive used some of the roms with kernels in clockwork mod... honestly I see no Improvment compared to Launcherpro... touchwiz sux.
I love the hardware of this phone...except the plastic feel. But coming from a Iphone i can say It just doesnt compare. Push notification apps are rare on android.
I know this is the best option ...only option on Verizon. But I do miss my JAILBROKEN IPHONE. With a jailbroken iphone I was able to do so much more. better theming, skins , even widgets.
Just my thoughts. I expected so much more from Google.

^^Lulz....
Please go get Another Iphone
If you don't like it, I saw that the iPhone is on sale, you could probably get a new one. GPS is fixed, just not in an official update, but it most certainly is working. And games will come, it will just take some time. Gingerbread should help significantly, as well as the growth that the Android platform has experienced the past year.

You are completely entitled to your own opinion. I just wish people didn't share them on a development site. Go to cnet or something.
good day.
I'm starting to not like this thing either. As a phone with it's basic functions, it does fine, but dammit, there is an almost TOTAL lack of attention to this thing from the dev community, which tells ME no geeks bought it.
Back when I had my TP2, there was a ton of custom roms, and constant development that made that thing very capable.
I think you can even run Froyo on a TP2 now.
F*ck me this thing sucks.

there is plenty of development going on for this phone..however its not currently here on xda
Atleast im not the only that feel this way. I thought I was missing something. I played with my friends Incredible .. I liked the UI almost the same as my Launcherpro add on.... but it looked better with a few more options....but it was slower than launcherpro.
As far as Apps well I think its going to be like that Untill Google stops the fragmentation. They should force Manufactures to update All phones in a timely manner atleast for 1 year
Ill give it till January and see if any other options are available. I love GOOGLE but Im not loving Android anymore. I think the thought of openess was a great idea. But Its lacking with developers wanting to make cool apps.
Like I said in January Ill see where Android is at. If its not moving foward in the DEV/MARKET area ill get a windows mobile or Iphone.
Thanks guys!!
Android is the platform that recent surveys have shown will receive the most new development. More so than iPhone/iPad and Windows Phone. I don't think it has to do with fragmentation so much as it takes time to realize where the market is going.
Just 6 months ago, there were only a handful of Android devices out there, and most weren't exactly powerful devices that could do gaming and many other things. Because of that, software companies put their money and time into making games for the iPhone as it could handle games better than the Android phones of the time. Given the lead time in creating a game or some of the complex apps out there, places probably only started on them recently.
Android didn't really take off until this past summer, at least not in a mass market way. There were rumored updates to devices, but no one knew how they would do where the iOS platform had a 3+ year history. Now that Android has taken off, companies are playing catch up.
I just decided to return the phone. Ill wait it out till january and see what is announced.
Just not enough good Applications to warrant being stuck on this OS. If things change maybe ill revisit it again.
Thanks guys and Goodluck.
