Hero ROM on the Dream

I have the Rogers HTC Dream and I got it on the day it came out. I absolutely love it.
The reason for this thread is for me, as an absolute n00b to this whole flashing ROMs and technical stuff, to ask you geniuses: how can I possibly get the Hero ROM onto my phone? I really, REALLY want it. Also, if it is possible, can you please guide me to the guide that lays out the step-by-step process please?
Thanks a whole lot.
No custom roms work on the rogers dream -- yet.
Root your phone, enable paid apps, purchase open home, get the hero skin and that should tide you over until someone figures this mess out.
I am a little disappointed by the stagnation of work being done on the rogers dream. Root is great, but it hasnt realized its full potential. Can any other dev gurus HELP?
I know. I need to know as soon as possible. The Hero ROM is driving me crazy...

I agree, I am really surprised that nothing has really happened with the rogers dream. Maybe Haykuro is silently working on it...
Let's hope so...

telus htc hero rom?

hey guys,
is there any link where I can download the original telus rom, I tried searching forums but didnt find any links or thread. So, if anyone know how to get back to telus rom please tell
thanks.
It's not possible at the moment. Telus hasn't put out any updates to the Hero yet. Sit tight, I'm sure once HTC puts out the Eclair update, Telus will release shortly aftewards. The original Telus ROM hasn't been customized at all though, other than the Telus APN settings, so I can't see a reason why the Telus-specific ROM would be required, unless it's for warranty reasons.
Hey craig0r, just a few questions. Seems there are few Telus users rooting so its kinda hard to find a "Telus" point of view. How is MoDaCo 3.1? Are you experiecing any issues? Since we cannot go back to Telus ROM, do you have any regrets rooting or installing MoDaCo? Thanks for your input!!

The HTC Music app gets choppy through, when played through A2DP bluetooth. I think I had that problem before I rooted, but I don't remember. It's fine through headphones. That kinda sucks. I really hope it's fixed in eclair. My Vogue with WM 6.5 had no issues like this.
Other than that, I have no complaints at all, it's pretty great. I only had my phone for one day before I rooted it, mind you, so I can't really compare it to the stock ROM's experience.

HTC magic e911 update rootable

i just recently got a htc magic with the e911 update just wondering is this is rootable ?
I'm just wondering, have you searched?
Answer is No.
Ok so I got my shiney new HTC Magic from rogers, for f*cking free thanks to that deal that enabled dream owners to get the magic for free. I harassed for a month an a half. But I am loving it, I'm using it as my main phone. But I can't find anything on rooting the new update for the damn thing. Is there even a name for this update. I'm glad I signed that waiver for dream owners. Cuz if I did it for the dream, I would have a useless peice of ****. So as the first guy asked, where is the root?
I have search and i am unable to find a straight answer.

Straight answer: No.
If the update becomes rootable, it would be clear.
but I red that there was a work around like we have to make sure we have the same radio as the new update so like that rogers won't know we are rooted users and dont get the data cut off is that true or it's just bogus?

You need a rooted phone to get the work around. If you update to the newest update then there is no point in trying this loophole since you have the newest SPL and radio that they want you to have.
The newest update is not rooted.
If you have a Rogers Magic with the new update and ARE NOT using it in Canada on Rogers (ex: in US on ATT), can you change the ROM to a rooted ROM or am I just SOL on Wifi Tether?

That doesn't make much sense -- if the newest updated ROM (1.76.0010 for ROGERS) is not rooted, what makes you think you can change the ROM if your not in Canada? It's still the same unrooted SPL.
If you try using WiFi tethering, you are going to get billed up the ying yang with charges with roaming and tethering charges if you don't have a tethering package.

That is what I was asking, just didn't phrase it right. I've switched to 32A Magic from a MT3G to have 3G bands for AT&T. So far not impressed with this Rogers ROM, almost makes me want to deal with EDGE again just so I can use a ROM that I like. Thanks for your answer.

No problem. Just make sure you watch out for the tethering, heard some bad stories with ROGERS + tethering.
There are so many topics about this now.. you'd think Rogers would do something about it.
What could Rogers possibly benifit from "locking" this phone like this. Kinda takes away from the 'open-sourceness' of the device.

ROGERS just wants you to have their ROM with their applications. That is really all it's about. ROGERS says "we have to test out updates to see if they work with our network" but we all know it's bulls--t; you can flash any ROM and you still receive phone calls, SMS, MMS, internet and still get 3G with no additional billing or problems with your phone.
All they really want is to lock you down so you can't unlock your phone (therefore taking your phone to other providers). You bought the phone from ROGERS, ROGERS wants everyone to know that you are with ROGERS.
Im pretty sure HTC are the ones who locked it when they made this firmware update. Rogers didnt make the update.

Not really, it was probably at Rogers request. If carriers are going to do stuff like that (which they are entitled to), then HTC or Google should make unbranded versions available for people who want the phone, but aren't on that network.

ROGERS is the only one to have the 1.76.0010 SPL for a reason; paid for the SPL and branding on the ROM. They keep implimenting newer systems to try and block out non-ROGER ROMs. They want to lock it down, HTC didn't have to, they have no reason to.
You know what, come to think if it, ROGERS probably knows about the .29 kernal bypass for rooting and are reluctant to update to the newer kernal.
Food for thought!

What is this kernel bypass for rooting that you are talking about? Does it work on the new ROM with Sense?

It only works with the 2.6.29 kernel and it's a slim chance of it happening -- It's basically just brute-forcing root access. Magic 32A has the 2.6.27 kernel and does not have this bug allowing root access.
If you want to know more, search the forums.

The short answer is yes.
The long answer is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5934885
And it also helps to read and understand ALL of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591048
I know that's a lot of information, but if you intend on getting one of these phones with the intention of rooting it, you need to know ALL of it.
*****HOWEVER*****
IF you do live in CANADA and that is the reason you are looking at a robbers dream, I would STRONGLY suggest that you AVOID the unit. An ADP1 or tmobile branded DREAM is a FAR better choice since it is ALSO compatible with the new WCDMA carriers (wind mobile, moblicity, and videotron) ***IN ADDITION TO*** being compatible with robbers. They are also MUCH easier to root, and in the case of ADP1, they shipped from factory with root access.

HTC BEE - Status

I live in an area that is about to transition to AT&T, so when my trusty Diamond died, I switched to the HTC Wildfire. Alltel is my provider, so that means CDMA. Alltel still calls it the Wildfire, but HTC calls it a Bee. There are more than just radio differences between the Wildfire and the Bee. Cosmetically, it is different, as is the bootloader version.
Here are the lines from the HBOOT screen:
BEE DVT2 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.24.0000
MICROP-0422
RADIO-1.00.00.10.01
Sep 9 2010,12:37:36
I like the size of the phone. I'm not a big fan of those huge screens, since I like to carry my phone in my pocket. I just don't feel right using a stock phone anymore, so I'd like to wipe the Alltel branding off and maybe get an AOSP ROM installed. That may be possible right now, but even if we can successfully root this phone, I worry that the lack of a Clockwork Recovery image may limit my adventurous nature. Also, I cannot find a link to a stock ROM, should I ever want to sell the phone or just restore it to OOTB software.
After poking around in various forums, it looks like this phone may have been dead-ended before I even picked it up. There does not seem to be a lot of effort to get it up-to-snuff, with respect to ROOT and ROMs. Not that it is a big deal, since I'll be on AT&T in a month or two anyway. I would like to lend a hand to any devs out there that feel like playing with it, but I'm not holding my breath.
Given that installing a ROM seems to be unwise at this point, what would you do with the phone? I could pay a little more and get the CDMA Desire, but the dev situation for that phone is not much better, and it is a pocket-buster. Looks like I'm stuck.
Not sure if you can root your phone yet, although someone with more experience would be able to tell you more. Your hboot is different than mine, my version can not be rooted yet.
You can find roms here http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buzz/
I'm fairly sure that this can be rooted, but since I can find no Clockwork recovery and no shipped ROM, there is no going back. The bootloader on mine seems to be an older one, so that should not be the hold-up.

What andriod version are you running then? Of couse you can do it, you just have to find a shop that has a xtc clip, buy one, or wait until unrevoked sorts their tool out ... Since im not going to pay top whack for one of those ive emailed a few shops in my area and im awaiting a response. Im off out tomorrow to see asian dude who does unlocking on the off chance.
AFAIK, all wildfires shipped with 2.1, at least mine did. Keep us posted with your progress. I'm outta ideas.

I have two of the HTC bee cdma phones I have rooted one and can't find a recovery for it so I can't go any farther with out being able to make a backup. If we can find a recovery we as a community can make things happen. I have posted on other threads stay away from the buzz things they can brick your bee. I have tried to get XDA to start a section for the bee so we are not having threads of now what do I do to fix this I flashed a buzz whatever on my bee. PLEASE XDA START A HTC BEE SECTION FOR US. So we can get some developers to see we are here and need help.
