telus htc hero rom? - Hero, G2 Touch General

hey guys,
is there any link where I can download the original telus rom, I tried searching forums but didnt find any links or thread. So, if anyone know how to get back to telus rom please tell
thanks.

It's not possible at the moment. Telus hasn't put out any updates to the Hero yet. Sit tight, I'm sure once HTC puts out the Eclair update, Telus will release shortly aftewards. The original Telus ROM hasn't been customized at all though, other than the Telus APN settings, so I can't see a reason why the Telus-specific ROM would be required, unless it's for warranty reasons.

Hey craig0r, just a few questions. Seems there are few Telus users rooting so its kinda hard to find a "Telus" point of view. How is MoDaCo 3.1? Are you experiecing any issues? Since we cannot go back to Telus ROM, do you have any regrets rooting or installing MoDaCo? Thanks for your input!!

The HTC Music app gets choppy through, when played through A2DP bluetooth. I think I had that problem before I rooted, but I don't remember. It's fine through headphones. That kinda sucks. I really hope it's fixed in eclair. My Vogue with WM 6.5 had no issues like this.
Other than that, I have no complaints at all, it's pretty great. I only had my phone for one day before I rooted it, mind you, so I can't really compare it to the stock ROM's experience.

I emailed Telus asking when they were releasing an update and they said they didnt release that information but to check the telus site periodically. So.. basically they are covering their own butts here. Which I can understand. If they give a release date and cant follow through people will do nothing but complain BUT if they go.. SUPRISE heres an update.... people will be thrilled

Hero ROM on the Dream

I have the Rogers HTC Dream and I got it on the day it came out. I absolutely love it.
The reason for this thread is for me, as an absolute n00b to this whole flashing ROMs and technical stuff, to ask you geniuses: how can I possibly get the Hero ROM onto my phone? I really, REALLY want it. Also, if it is possible, can you please guide me to the guide that lays out the step-by-step process please?
Thanks a whole lot.
No custom roms work on the rogers dream -- yet.
Root your phone, enable paid apps, purchase open home, get the hero skin and that should tide you over until someone figures this mess out.
I am a little disappointed by the stagnation of work being done on the rogers dream. Root is great, but it hasnt realized its full potential. Can any other dev gurus HELP?
I know. I need to know as soon as possible. The Hero ROM is driving me crazy...

Anyway of reverting back to stock rom?

Just a quick one.
I updated my o2 locked hd2 to 1.48 fw. Is there anyway of reverting back to the stock rom that the hd2 came with? (o2 one complete with o2 splash screen etc)
Or is it the point of no return now?

I would assume you can use the same method you used to upgrade your rom (goldcard?) to downgrade it back to the original rom if you need to.

Yeah did use the goldcard method to upgrade.
Not sure if you can do the same to revert back though.
Can I ask why you want to? Is the newer ROM worse in some areas, or do you just want the O2 branding back?

Well im thinking of sending it back to o2 as im still within my 14 days.
Would need the o2 branding back on it though otherwise i dont think i would get away with sending it back and saying i didnt want it. (or would i get away with it if they noticed and i played dumb )

Just want another handset. I have no real complaints with the HD2 but i just havent got the time these days to mess and tweak with the phone to get it how i want it. (got a 6 week baby girl here taking up all my time)
I came from an iphone and i primarily used that for web, media and plenty of texting. I didnt really use the app store that much.
In the above areas the HD2 just doesnt cut it for me. Web, sms and media are just far better on the iphone imo. Everything else about the hd2 is fantastic and im glad i got it to experience winmo but at the end of the day for my needs i'll prob just go back to the iphone or perhaps get an android device!

Is there any way I could do that? Never experienced the SMS problem with my stock 1.43, I find 1.48 has many bugs that on 1.43 I never experienced.
So is there any chance of doing that?

Problem is many 1.43 are cursed with the same bugs I'm experiencing with 1.48.
My stock 1.43 was flawless, it simply worked as it should.

Well the 1.43 roms are available via this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
I know that wont put my o2 branding back on it. What you reckon? Revert back to 1.43 send it back to o2 and then play dumb if they try and say ive messed with it? Like (to o2 rep) "mine never had a splash screen on startup, so ive no idea why you would accuse me of altering the device"
have to say i`v been toying with the idea of flashing my phone with upgrade using the goldcard method(i`m on tmobile stock 1.43) due to tmobile removing certain apps on the phone, but keep hearing a lot of problems with 1.48. isnt an upgrade supposed to improve things not make things worse??? lol i have absolutely no major issues with the tmobile stock rom. to be honest it runs flawlessly and smoothly. the only issue i`v had is the pinkish colour on camera but with the hotfix its solved. also i havent read alot of problems coming from people on tmobile either. are the guys behind the scenes doing the testing an tweaking/branding at tmobile on top of ther job maybe?????... Mmmmmmmm. obviously ther seems to be certain issues with the phone that are out of tmobiles hands, i just havent heard many tmobile customers complaining about much, the youtube app yeah, but thats about it. anyways think i`l be leaving upgrade for now lol. if something isnt broke, why fix it?

Froyo 2.2 & HTC Legend

Hi,
Please forgive me as I have been searching everywhere online and on the forum for my answer.
I have a HTC Legend (Virgin) that is unlocked - Running on Rogers.
1st Question: Is this phone Rootable? I have heard yes and I have heard no, based on the firmware that it is presently running.
2nd Question: Is it possible if the phone is rooted to flash a Basic 2.2 Android Rom (I personally don't use HTC Sense)
The reason I am asking as HTC Announced that 2.2 Will not be updated until Christmas time.
And Before anyone says I should have bought the NEXUS One - The reason - THE SIZE
That phone is huge, I previously had an Xperia X10, which was TOO Big and I quite like the build quality of the Legend.
Thanks for all your Help! I Greatly Appreciate it!
Yes the phone is rootable, but you're right it depends on what version you currently have installed. Check out the android development section to figure out what you can and can't do.
Froyo at christmas is incorrect.
Htc has said all current devices will have froyo before christmas. However speculation says the legend itself should most likely have it in or around august.
Next, if you manage to root your phone you can talk a look in the android development section(again) for the legend and you will find 1 or 2 froyo roms have been ported semi successfully. They work and run but have a few minor problems.
One is the cyogen mod 6 (I probably spelled it wrong)thread.
You cannot flash a stock version of froyo to the legend, you will have to use one of these roms.
Hope I could help. I'm looking at getting the virgin mobile legend myself soon. are you happy so far?
Thanks
Thanks for your info! I was just feeling a little overwhelmed with all the info as I am not really up with all the lingo.
To answer your question about the Legend, I love it! The build quality is Superior, it just fits in your hand so nicely, and looks good there as well.
I have had MANY cell phones in the last 5 years (Well over 40...) and this is one that I know I will keep for a long time... More so than the iPhone.
Cheers.

Hey,
To be honest I took it to an Unlocking place in Vancouver, It took them aprox 20 min to complete, It still has a few Apps for Virgin/Bell on the phone however no where does it have the Virgin Logo Etc. I use the Rogers APN Settings rogers-core-appl1.apn and it works flawless with 3G
I have not been able to get 2.2 onto this phone at this point, I may just wait until it's pushed out by HTC.
This sounds GR8!
I'm waiting for my Legend to arrive any day, now...

Do You know what they did to the phone? To unlock it i mean....
I ordered Wildfire but changed my mind and changed the order to Legend...
A good choice i think...
Been using my KAISER for a looong time now and it's time for a retirement, i think
Just installed Donut Android on my KAISER but it soaks battery so i think i have to revert to WM 6.5 again....
I think i'll use it as a backup phone for some time
Does anyone know if tom tom works on Legend?
The unlock was done through the store so not quite sure on how it was completed. I have seen many websites that offer the unlock.
In regards to TomTom try the Google navigation. It's amazing. Works great and integrates with your contacts and the mapping program quite well. I find the voice to be quite rough. Hopefully they'll allow changes to that after its out is Beta.

Could be costly, wouldn't it
I'll try it out though
Tom Tom has the maps in map folder so no online search and so on....
regarding the unlock thingy i guess someone figures it out so we can do it ourselves
Maybe somewhat like the KAISER unlock i guess...

Where did you buy it?
I bought my legend at Virgin (349 CAD) and am running Rogers as well, to unlock it you need to purchased the unlock code from HTC by providing the phones S/N. Their are lots of places online that will provide the codes for $10-20, I haven't been able to find a free source.
Currently their is no software unlock for this phone.

I have the Virgin Mobile (Canada) HTC Legend and can confirm I was able to successfully unlock it for usage on Fido/Rogers. After this I upgraded the rom using a gold card to a stock HTC rom to remove the Bell/Virgin crapware.
After this I found the downgrade path to 1.31 which has successfully allowed me to have the phone rooted. Now I just need to wait for a good rom to be made with sense. So far all the roms I have tried do have their own issues like, camera problems, pinch zoom functionality...

I've read a lot of the posts on here and it seems that I should root my phone, but as I stated previously I'm really new to all this so can you guys help me out and give me some tips.
Thanks!

Tips:
1. Read, study and reread, especially the STICKY threads that usually contain Q&A information for new users.
2. Forum Search and Google will also be your friend.
3. If you do have questions, posting in this "General" section is the best place to start.

What it says above is a great way to start. I just got an Aria too and for me the first thing I wanted to do was to get rid of the AT&T crapware off the phone. After rooting, which is super easy compared to how it was a few years back, then you can just search for what you want to do. I am new to Android but have been on this forum for years and it's the best place for anything you want to do to your phone to make it "better" Now I'm trying to add 3rd party apps that are not in the market, this gets a bit involved, but the info is here. I have installed different ROM's on other phones before, but don't really care to do that with the Aria yet, but it is definitely an easy way to get the Aria upgraded to Android 2.2 and get rid of the crapware and AT&T's limitations that they put on their phones at the same time.
Everyone here is super helpful as long as you read first and ask questions later. Cheers!

IMO the second one has more concise instructions for noob. They both document using the Unrevoked 3.2 tool which makes rooting the Aria pretty painless.

Install HTC Sync so that the usb drivers get installed.
After you get rooted, I suggest you reboot into ClockworkMod Recovery mode and do a 'nandroid' backup. Do a search and you'll find more info about how to do that.

That's purely opinion. The good news is we only have a few to choose from, but they are very good roms. If you like the stock look/feel if the aria then one of the two liberated roms would be a good choice. One is based on android 2.1 with sense ui (came stock on the aria) and the other is based on android 2.2 with sense ui. Then theres cm6.1, which is based on android 2.2 but without the sense ui. All are good choices and very well developed. Try em all and see what you like. Ask those roms receive very good user support.
I personally started on liberated (i was hesitant to give up sense), but I eventually tried cm6 and once I adjusted I've never looked back.

I too agree with the post before mine, that it's all a matter of opinion. If you want mine, since you call yourself such a noob, I'd try one of the liberated rom's that have sense ui which is what you're used to. Then try cm6.1 at a later time once you're comfortable with your skills, it's very customizable and as mentioned before, well developed, with a large helpful community. Good luck. Btw, rom's are in the Development section.

Maybe I'll just root then and not install any other ROMS
