Hi all
I'm a new member.
Great forum I have to say
I have a new battery after the old one started draining itself
in under a day, no problems before that, the new battery is doing the same,
I have the phone set to "turn off power if not used for 3 mins" &
running window mobile 6.5 test (before I ran windows 6)
I'm just using it as a phone really & not much else, can't figure out
why it's draining the battery so fast!
yesterday it told me the battery was really low but I left it
for around 10 hours & it was still on but had the same low power level
as the day before
any help is appreciated.

I'm also interested in that. I have a 2+ year old battery, and now with 3g it lasts 30 minutes if browsing full....
thanks!
PS: sparks72, how long does the new battery work? what are the specs of the battery?

Hi diegolaz
Battery drains from 99% when fully charged to 80% in a few seconds!
can last all day if handset isn't used but after only a couple of short calls drains dramatically & nags me for a recharge.
The new battery is a 3.7V DC Li-ion 1350mAh.
manufacturer is Celxpert Energy CO Ltd. (China)
Strangely I've been having battery drain problems too, most notably when using 3g data or wifi. Thing is I do have 2 batteries to test with and one of them is not very old. I'm running radio 1.54.07.00 which I have been using for a long time, long enough to remember not having problems with it.
I started keeping a log, here is my results for today:
3:26pm, batter starts at 79%
4:40pm = 71%
8:30pm = 51%
9:30pm = 19%
Between 8:30 and 9:30 i did a hard reset, installed some apps, used wifi for a bit to download the apps and get my exchange account setup, and got/sent some text messages. Seems like a pretty huge drop.
Does anyone know of an app that can report current power drain on the Hermes. I remember having something like that for my 8125
Today I just ordered a new OEM battery off of ebay for cheap just to see if it makes any difference, I recommend you all to do the same. It's the first step of the process of elimination....maybe both batteries I have really are bunk...or that i'm spoiled on my TILT's battery life.
Also turn off "beam" that seems to be on by default.
using wifi will drain the battery pretty fast anyway, but i would also check that your rom is not activating wifi on the sly, i had it when i cooked a rom using josh's kitchen and thought it was my battery that was knackered, turned out it was the wifi switching on constantly ,but i had no indication it was on. Not saying that is your problem , but worth checking all the same
Nothing is on in the background.
Battery still draining fast

The battery problem for me happened when I upgraded from WM5 to WM6,
even though I have had my Hermes since 2007 (brand new) I only started using it in Feb 2009. (had enough phones to deal with!!)
I tested my old OEM battery & their doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it, very confusing.
Well i got the new battery in, and in 24 hours i went from 96% to 8% at a drain rate of 3.66% an hour. This is good news, I guess those two other batteries I have are wasted :-/ , but at least the TYTN is ok.

I am also facing the exact problem. But I don't think if it is the problem of battery. I think it's some problem with ROM version..
Any help is appriciated.
I have tried several different ROMs but the battery still drains quickly.
Can anyone on this forum shed some light on this problem at all ?
Have any of the developers experienced battery drain problems ?
Does anyone have a solution ?
Thank's

Hi!
I've made a n interesting discovery with my battery.
3 weekends i have drained my battery until it shut itselfs off, and then i have charged it up again. And now i realy can live with my HD2 battery life.
When i come home from work i have about 80% and now as i write i have 76% left at 20.44.
Before i would have about 30-40% left at this time, i have never drained my battery before to 0, so when it happens the first time i noticed a slightly improvement. So the next weekend i did the same, and this last weekend i unplugged my charger at 06.00 in the friday morning and did not charge before sunday morning at 10.00. And for me THAT's a BIG/HUGE improvement.
Glad you resolved your issues .
I've found that having any kind of TSR apps installed on the device memory instead of the storage card, has made the battery life livable on my HD2 .

Hey guys!
I really need to try this. my battery life is just so pathetic.I hope it works for me too.
TSR - Terminate and Stay Resident.
Anything like G-Alarm/G-Profile, task managers etc. Any program that stays on or runs in the background I install to the phones memory. I think there is increased battery drain caused by accessing the storage card constantly IMO, so installing stuff like the above has made battery last 48hrs no problems. I too like to do a couple of full drain and recharge cycles a month .
I'm willing to bet that the majority of people who have battery issue probably has like a **** load of apps installed and/or unaware that some of their apps that they installed were running in the background. I've had the t8585 and the newer t9193 and never had any battery issue. The battery will easily last me 50hrs with light-to-moderate usage.
i can only confirm this.
after draining ur battery a couple of times, u need to fully charge it and it lasts longer than the first few days with the HD2
from new my battery life was totally useless. would barely last until 9pm no matter what i did.
two weeks ago my phone decided to forget it's pin lock number so had no choice but to hard reset the phone. since then i get a couple of days out of it and that's with heavy texting and web browsing.
i loved the phone before but battery life drove me up the wall but now i'm getting more life out of it i am now loving the device!
On the first couple of days I had the phone I had <40% by the end of the day but now even though I use my phone alot more I find I get to bedtime with ~50%
charging it unpowered after the drain also helps. (like with USB not the charger)

Not to hijack the thread, just wondering if you're the talented skin designer that created some of the BEST for Wizbar? I still use them on all my HP PDA's
Few days ago i bought my HD2, and before that i saw problems about battery life on this forum.
When i bought it I drain the battery until he died, then i left him turned off and let him recharge over night (cca 8h). In the morning I turned him on and i used him all day max...and in the end of the day battery died at 23h, again, when he was off I let him chargeing over night (cca 8h). In the morning I turned him on and used him average, at evening, 23h, the battery was on 54%, I went to sleep and in the morning (after 7 hours) the battery was 52%.
2% in 7 hourse is very good...and 50% over day. I'm ok with that

All that does for Lithium-Ion batteries is to reset the "estimated remaining charge" circuit. It wont increase the available battery life it just makes the battery report more accurately as to its remaining charge.

when i sleep at +- 10 p.m, i have 90%
when i get back from school( as most school here don't allow mobile phone), it left at 70/60 %, i get back from school at around 2.00 pm, i don't have any program running, gprs off, running at edge, i use 2.12 radio, how can you guys achieve 2 days?

energy rom's use a lot of power. i didnt knew that untill i flashed the Anastasia rom ( link ) battery life is great and it looks better than energy imo. and it easy runs 2 days for me
I've been very annoyed at the rapid battery loss with Dutty's series of excellent ROMs.
I started from scratch and didn't install any apps to the Storage Card just to be absolutely sure. I even put the phone into Flight Mode.
Tonight I finally nailed the culprit for the huge drain (we're talking 50% in a few hours): it was a 16GB "Memory2Go" SDHC card. With the card removed, I lost just a few percent over a couple of hours.
I also don't get the same drain with an 8GB Sandisk card installed.
Any ideas on how to get the 16GB card to play nicely?

Hey.
Got my X10 a few days ago,
And im the only one with a power problem ?
Having to recharge it alest once a day ?
My batteri drops aprox 12 % per hour, so I usefully charge 2 times a day.
Since 1AM to now (12AM) it went from 100% - 24%. And Ive been sleeping alot, so the phone hasent been muched used either.
What kind of usage are you partaking in? In my experience most smartphones have to be charged daily.
Here's a post from Esato Forums where someone did an extensive battery drain usage test:
http://www.esato.com/board/printpost.php?post=2933402
The last day Ive been using it minimally, and Im on my second charge for the day. All my other phone last 1 day (6am-12pm) before needing charging. But my X10 needs an aditional charge at about 2-3pm..... And even then is as good as empty at 12pm....
I hope its just a small software bug, or something that could be fixed with a reset. Im starting to enjoy this phone, but there are several days a week, I will not have the time to charge it a second time..
Think Ill go for that reset, and see if that helps....
Anyone else with X10, and batteries that drain extremmely quick?
Mine dies after about 8 hours, but this is usually normal with new batteries, it should be better after a few FULL recharge cycles.

Were your previous phones smartphones, just out of curiosity.
Also, you could try to reduce how often TimeScape polls in the background for updates. That might help.
My current iPAQ 910c lasts a full day if I do nothing but the occassional phone call and SMS. However, if I do anything power intensive the battery fails, and the phone is done until it can get 2 hours or so of charge. But that's why I'm looking to replace it... definitely not normal.
I have access to every phone I want.. And Ive only been using smartphones.
(Currently as in sign.).
I dont use timescape or mediascape, so they have been disabled.
And yet the battery only last for aprox 10 hours....
I never had a phone with such a bad battery, however, Ive never had a phone with such big screen or cpu either....
You gain some, you loose some.
And to he who talked about recharging cycles to maximize battery,
this kind of batteries dosent work that way... They are allready maxed..
I've had mine for a few days now.
The battery's pretty good, I've only charged it once over about four days, so I'm pretty pleased. However, it does seem to use a lot of power if you have wifi on, even in sleep mode.
I've also had no problems with my "a" in either keyboard (Norwegian/Japanese) so far.
I'm still on 14 btw, if anyone's noticted battery dropping after they updated.

I would not say that the my battery is good. but it is ok, i haven't had it fully charged yet, since I did get git yesterday. and it did last about 10 hours or so, from 60 or 70%. with playing music, trying out some things etc. but I worked 5,5 of these hours and was in the movie theater 2 of the other hours.
anyways, I haven't really had much problems with the keyboard either, as you said. the only thing that really buggs me is the damn space button. it is too small! :/ I wen't from an X1 to the X10 no, from using HTC magic before that. But I am starting to get really used to the other keys.
I haven't installed the latest build/patch either.

Just download "spare apps" and see what apps som drain u battery
My X10 take only 6% on 3 hour on normal use
very very bad battery drain! Left mine on flight mode at 2AM with 50% battery left, before going to bed. Woke up at 11AM and the battery was dead with no usage nor cell connection!

A chellphone uses more battery when there is bad reception, because it tries to get a better reception.
Like if there is just edge, the phonei strying to get HSDPA connection instead, this drains more of the battery.
+ With android the phone leaves some of the apps running in the background.
I recommand that you get an app that can shut these down.
Like a task manager kinda..
eg.Advanced Task Manager
I hope this helps ye.
and if you go into "settings - about the phone - Battery usage" then you can see what apps that is draining the most of the battery etc.

As I wrote before, phone was in standby on flight mode: it means that NOTHING was running nor any 3G data was exchanged. I've had many Android phones (Magic, Hero, Milestone, Nexus, Legend) and in similar conditions they lost only a couple of percentage points of battery, not 50% like X10!! I do love this phone, but heavy battery drains is driving me crazy (and it's definitely not a faulty phone, since I know many many users with the same problem)

I actually think the battery is good too. I recharge every other day, which seems to work fine.
I have bluetooth and wifi off, and mostly doing manual updates for timescape. I do surf quite a bit though, and no problems with battery drain. In my experience, my X10 lasts a lot better than a Satio for example.
Strange how half of the people posting here, have very good batteries (1-2 days), and the other half have extremmely bad batteries (8-12 hours).
I doubt the ones with the bad batteries are "worse user" then the ones with the good batteries......
I'm one of those with lousy battery usage. Hardly use the phone, but drains in no time. However I've ordered 4 new batteries, so gonna test all of them and see if there's a pattern.
Grrr.. Was just setting up my contacts to Facebook.. Took around 20 minutes and drained 21% of my battery.. That's just not okay..
I just left it for 2 hours without doing anything and the battery from 90% dropped to 65%. This is not cool at all. SE we need a solution ASAP.
I'm one of those that get bad battery duration on the X10. I usually leave BT and WIFI on as I did in my N97. By observing who drains most of the battery, I get around 30% for the radio in standby and 20% for BT. The processor is only a small percentage (2%) so I don't belive that the snapdragon cpu can be blamed for bad battery duration. How is it possible that Nokias as the N97 having the same communication hw (GPS, WIFI, 3G, BT...) last for days with similar usage and battery capacity? Ok, the procesors are ony half the speed but I don't belive this makes so much difference...
I own a HTC Nexus also and has slightly better battery duration than the X10 but way far form the N97. I've roorted the phone and can change the CPU speed. It makes very little difference on battery duration if you set 400 or 300MHz instead of 1GHz.
So, it seems what makes all android devices so power hungry is the way the OS handles the communication interfaces, I belive most RF chipsets should have similar power drain and CPU's are idling most of the time. Perhaps symbian has a smarter algorithm to hanlde 3G/GSM/WiFi switching and no services polling the network when the phone is in your pocket.

So seeing i am in an area that does not have 3G I will have a problem with battery drain bcuz it will be constantly be trying to connect to HSDPA?
I have two Arias, one freshly rooted with the rooted stock ROM and one running attn1's FR008 flashed straight from the freshly rooted state. The only additional app installed is BattStatt, so I can easily monitor battery state. One battery is new, with only a few cycles (over about a week) and one battery is older, purchased in August.
Over the next few nights I will be doing an experiment. Both phones will be on, same settings for GPS, WiFi, Data, and Bluetooth. They will only have the displays set on about every hour or so to check battery states. The following night, the test will be done again, with the batteries swapped. I will then run the test again with WiFi on, with intermittant connections due to my work environment.
I expect to update this thread after each night's experiment.
The first night is an exception, I'm comparing my normal ROM (loaded with apps, widgets, and running Tasker) My first night has been interesting...one running freshly rooted is still 100% after 1.5 hours. The FR008 with many apps is down to 89% (note that this is the older battery). Perhaps at the 4 hour mark, I shall swap them. It would be nice to do this with 2 new batteries, but I have what I have.
This is being done to lay rest to the claim that one ROM gives better battery life over another. Seems like it is going to be conclusive if the first night is any indication. Perhaps we'll see what app is the culprit? (Widgets??Tasker??)
Phone calls?
Interesting article regarding battery life
Interesting experiment !
Just FYI - an provocative article :
Your Battery Gauge Is Lying To You:
Everything You Need To Know About Bump Charging
And Inconsistent Battery Drain
No phone calls on either. Just to be fair, since one is without a sim card, both of them have data turned off.
At the 4 hour mark, the original rooted ROM is still at 100% and the FR008 with mucho is at 82%. I have swapped batteries.
This gave me an opportunity to race bootups. The stock ROM booted up and was usable before the FR008 (with UOT cooked startup bootup animation) even got to the dancing droid. Makes me want to undo that to see if that is slowing down the bootup.
I am eager to do this full swing with clean ROMs tomorrow. I shall make a backup of the FR008 ROM then go back to the aria_shipped_rooted_signed.zip
(found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=783508&highlight=Original+ROM). I will then flash FR008, adding only a widget for easy monitoring of battery levels, BattStatt.
This experiment is going to have to wait. Part 2 of last night's experiment indicated that my older battery drains fast in either device/ROM. The article linked in this thread is good reading. Thanks for that info.
My last Intruder was a Grumman A-6E.
Awesome idea
What a great idea - I hate the battery life on my Aria, and have tried multiple ROMs and multiple battery programs. I look forward to watching your progress with different settings and ongoing informational reports

I pretty much ran a similar test
I have two Aria phones - both the same age
one is stock 2.1
one is FR008
I set them both up the same - running HTC Sense -
I set the phones down (while I slept) for 8 hours
the stock phone drained 10%
the FR008 phone drained 43%
Did it twice
I know its not a 'real' test , but it does make you go hrmmmmmmmm.

You set the phone down for 8 hours and your phone drained 57% battery on idle for FR008? I find that very hard to believe because I have set my phone down over night and it drained 2% of my battery if even that. FR008 has shown the best battery life to me over the entire FR series. As of right now, my battery has been off charger for 6 hours, and Ive used the internet, wifi, and light texting with my battery at 100% still.
Edit: Im also using SetCPU...I dont know how much of a difference that would make, but there should be a difference. Try using SetCPU
FR008 is a battery drainer from hell. I just accept it.
SetCPU slows down my phone to epic proportions--no thanks.

you dont have to believe me - just telling you exactly what I have experienced
It wasnt just one night - I tested this for 3 nights straight before I made this post -
if you are running all those things for 6 hours and still show 100% - I would question that
Here is a note :
I downloaded the HK version from attn1 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819715
and noticed a much better battery life
Those of you who are exerpiencing battery issues - might want to try that one out!

I said I have been off the charger for 6 hours. Not necessarily using the phone for 6 hours. I browsed the web for around half an hour and sent about 30 texts since Ive been off the charger. I just dont see how its possible for your phone to drain 57% while youre not using it. What happens when you start using it?

I have noticed no lag with SetCPU. To each his own

When i start using it - I love it
let me try this - i am currently at 100% -
its 8:17 AM PST
I will let it sit 'idle' on my desk at work - off charge.
in one hour - i estimate that it will have dropped 2% now (new ROM)
I will report back

ok, just about an hour on FR008 - and now my BattStat is reporting . . . .
96% !?!
Both times - the phone was just left alone - on my desk - not being charge - not being moved at all - no touchy.....
Both were fully wiped prior to flashing
Both had LPP + DV + 3 widgets (mClock, Exteneded Controls, BattStat)
Both had turned off News/Stock sync
Both had 2 emails (Exchange, IMAP) set up
though not truely scientific - but nevertheless
HK Version showing < 1% drop
FR008 vers showing < 5% drop
dont know what to say - these are my results.
wish i had your results

Wow... to use your words "I just don't see how it's possible" that you are still at 100% after sending 30 texts and 30 minutes of web browsing. In my own experience with my 2 month old Aria, even on the stock Aria, that sounds unbelievable. Either that or your battery calibration is way off.
My HTC ARIA with FR008 drain 2% in 8 hours.
Wifi off.
GPS off.
PLANE MODE ON
Set CPU when the screen is off 200-400 MHz
Set CPU when the screen is off 200-800 MHz and work very very smooth with Live Wallpapers.
Average CPU Usage <1%
Plane mode on????
With all those things off , why not just power down

Howsit guys
I love WP7 on my HD2, but as you all know, its a battery hogger.
I have already purchased a 2600mah extended battery (Non HTC) on eBay, and awaiting delivery.
Is anyone else using an extended battery, that could maybe give us feedback on what it does in terms of battery life?
I hope to get atleast 2 days?
Currently im syncing google, outlook (To download hourly)
Some webbrowsing (Facebook, XDA offcourse)
And a few calls per day
Currently, my battery only lasts about 7 hours?
err, well i cant speak for everyone but my phone doesnt except the extended batteries, i mean it works but only to the size of a normal battery, it gets very confused if you charge it up passed that value on an externl charger.
as for your battery life, that seems excessive, mine lasts with heavy usage about a day and half. BT always on, wifi off, 3G and data on, xbox off, and the wee camera trick, plus several calls a day and a live account syncing every 30 min and a exchange account setup for push.

7 Hours? With about the same amount of usage with Web, 6 email accounts syncing every 15 minutes, 2 Calendar syncs, weather and stocks (hourly), calls, and texting, I get about 13 hours of usage. You should realize your battery drains faster when you're phone is searching for a signal...so if you're in an area where your signal isn't very strong, your battery will drain quickly esp. with all the data apps your run.
If you want to know about the extended battery you should check out the regular HD2 Windows Mobile forum. There were a lot of discussions about the extended battery way back when the batteries first appeared.
Sorry
you already paid for it so...i wish that it will work as you planed
but it didn't for me at least with WP7....
GOOD luck mate!!!
I tried an extended battery before I even tried WP7 and it is twice the size and twice the stated capacity but it lasted the same amount of time as the standard one...
btw, my stock DFT rom doesn't chew any more battery than wm6.5 did...

Yeah, it isnt charging it, if you use an external charger it only lasts the same amount of time as a standard battery but pop it out and resert it and it seems to use a bit more, in short the battery controler, not suprisingly as WP7 isnt ment for our phone, doesnt know what its doing, its a pitty but you get what you pay for and im happy with it, still think your eating too much juice tho, seems very odd

What ROM are you using?
The DFT ROM from this tutorial YouTube Video
ROM - 7.0.7004.4
Radio - 5.51.09.29_22.32.50.10U
I haven't noticed any more battery usage compared to the OEM Telstra Aus ROM...
My phone's off the charger at 6am, 4-10 short calls, 20-30min of youtube, 30-60min web browsing, 6 email accounts updating every 15min, 30min gaming, 15min browsing the app store and trying random apps...
I get home at 4pm with 40-50% battery...
In my opinion that's OK battery usage...
Awesome!
I recieved my battery yesterday.
Charged it for 12 hours. And i must say, it works wonders on WP7. I had to reflash first, as it was a bit unstable. Once i did it, the phone started running fine.
I started using it at at this morning (08:30). And my battery is now sitting at about 75%. its 21:21. And i have used it quite a bit.
Hope this info helps others.....
hi everyone,
i have HD2 for 3 years (his battery drain in standby is 5-10 mA) and recently i bought second one, and I'm having problem with his battery drain in standby it never goes under 40mA (with airplane on is the same thing). i did task 29, put the same radio (2.15.50.14), same clk and same rom (NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.7), I try juice defender and it is always above 40mA. On cpu spy I see that phone is in deep sleep 90% of time (similar like my first HD2). I try couple difrent roms and it never goes under 40mA in standby. i swap battery an it didnt change anything. is there anything that i could try or is it that some HD2 just cant get normal standby battery drain? what should I do, any advice will bi appreciated.
thx in advance
Seems like you've tried a fair amount, the only thing I can think of is that the hardware of the new HD2 is somehow faulty. Is the same issue present with all ROMs?

yes, with every (four) ROM standby battery drain is above 40 mA, I could try put back win 6.5 but that isn't why I bought this phone
A long shot, but perhaps a dodgy battery pin? Or maybe a dirty connection plate on the battery?
Have you switched the batteries to confirm its the phone not the battery?

yes I switch battery and it is the same, still big battery drain on second HD2 and normal on first. battery pins are clear an they looks to be good.
update,
first I put back win mobile 6.5 and battery would drain from 100% to 0% in 30 hours in standby , it is little bit better than android because on android battery last around 16 hours but still it is short standby time. After that I switch just motherboard from bad hd2 to good one and battery drain was bad where the second motherboard was installed, so it is something with motherboard or cpu or gpu and it is hardware problem. Maybe stronger battery could help bit, don't know what to do next

i reckon that 16hrs when its on android is good for a hd2 i have a hd2 with extended andina battery in i JUST get a full days use (ie 8am 2 10pm) with normal use thru out the day no mater what rom i have try'd and tbh ive try'd a lot and there on par with each other but if you have all the stuf on ,gps Bluetooth then i get about 6 hrs from it
as i have said b4 this phone was never ment to run android hence why the battery is better in winmo
I agree with you it that it isn't made for android, but there is to big deference between two hd2 that i have, anyway can you send me link of extended battery and what capacity is it?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HTC-HD2-T...808370?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3cc10bb7b2
i dont know ware you in the world but you can search worldwide id wait if you cant get one and see if one pops up ,also these gold hd2 batterys you see on there are crap ive try'd one there no better than the htc org battery the andida has a good name but you get what you pay for
have you tr'd a bigger partion on it you may have bad blocks or could be or have been overheated in the past (processor) thats also common i use the nexus 4.0.4 rom and i find it ok
to be honest i don't know, i got it last week for low price as used phone whit win mobile on. i did tray bigger partition it didnt help. but i think it might be damaged because last night I turned it off when it was on 20% battery (to save battery) and this morning I couldn't turn it on, battery was dead, so i think it has some hardware malfunction. i will try to find bigger battery (double size in capacity and in size), also don't believe in gold battery , not for that price, thanks for replay
