I love WP7 on my HD2, but as you all know, its a battery hogger.
I have already purchased a 2600mah extended battery (Non HTC) on eBay, and awaiting delivery.
Is anyone else using an extended battery, that could maybe give us feedback on what it does in terms of battery life?
I hope to get atleast 2 days?
Currently im syncing google, outlook (To download hourly)
Some webbrowsing (Facebook, XDA offcourse)
And a few calls per day
Currently, my battery only lasts about 7 hours?
err, well i cant speak for everyone but my phone doesnt except the extended batteries, i mean it works but only to the size of a normal battery, it gets very confused if you charge it up passed that value on an externl charger.
as for your battery life, that seems excessive, mine lasts with heavy usage about a day and half. BT always on, wifi off, 3G and data on, xbox off, and the wee camera trick, plus several calls a day and a live account syncing every 30 min and a exchange account setup for push.

7 Hours? With about the same amount of usage with Web, 6 email accounts syncing every 15 minutes, 2 Calendar syncs, weather and stocks (hourly), calls, and texting, I get about 13 hours of usage. You should realize your battery drains faster when you're phone is searching for a signal...so if you're in an area where your signal isn't very strong, your battery will drain quickly esp. with all the data apps your run.
If you want to know about the extended battery you should check out the regular HD2 Windows Mobile forum. There were a lot of discussions about the extended battery way back when the batteries first appeared.
Sorry
you already paid for it so...i wish that it will work as you planed
but it didn't for me at least with WP7....
GOOD luck mate!!!
I tried an extended battery before I even tried WP7 and it is twice the size and twice the stated capacity but it lasted the same amount of time as the standard one...
btw, my stock DFT rom doesn't chew any more battery than wm6.5 did...

Yeah, it isnt charging it, if you use an external charger it only lasts the same amount of time as a standard battery but pop it out and resert it and it seems to use a bit more, in short the battery controler, not suprisingly as WP7 isnt ment for our phone, doesnt know what its doing, its a pitty but you get what you pay for and im happy with it, still think your eating too much juice tho, seems very odd

What ROM are you using?
The DFT ROM from this tutorial YouTube Video
ROM - 7.0.7004.4
Radio - 5.51.09.29_22.32.50.10U
I haven't noticed any more battery usage compared to the OEM Telstra Aus ROM...
My phone's off the charger at 6am, 4-10 short calls, 20-30min of youtube, 30-60min web browsing, 6 email accounts updating every 15min, 30min gaming, 15min browsing the app store and trying random apps...
I get home at 4pm with 40-50% battery...
In my opinion that's OK battery usage...
Awesome!
I recieved my battery yesterday.
Charged it for 12 hours. And i must say, it works wonders on WP7. I had to reflash first, as it was a bit unstable. Once i did it, the phone started running fine.
I started using it at at this morning (08:30). And my battery is now sitting at about 75%. its 21:21. And i have used it quite a bit.
Hope this info helps others.....

Hi all

Great forum I have to say
I have a new battery after the old one started draining itself
in under a day, no problems before that, the new battery is doing the same,
I have the phone set to "turn off power if not used for 3 mins" &
running window mobile 6.5 test (before I ran windows 6)
I'm just using it as a phone really & not much else, can't figure out
why it's draining the battery so fast!
yesterday it told me the battery was really low but I left it
for around 10 hours & it was still on but had the same low power level
as the day before
any help is appreciated.

I'm also interested in that. I have a 2+ year old battery, and now with 3g it lasts 30 minutes if browsing full....
thanks!
PS: sparks72, how long does the new battery work? what are the specs of the battery?

Hi diegolaz
Battery drains from 99% when fully charged to 80% in a few seconds!
can last all day if handset isn't used but after only a couple of short calls drains dramatically & nags me for a recharge.
The new battery is a 3.7V DC Li-ion 1350mAh.
manufacturer is Celxpert Energy CO Ltd. (China)
Strangely I've been having battery drain problems too, most notably when using 3g data or wifi. Thing is I do have 2 batteries to test with and one of them is not very old. I'm running radio 1.54.07.00 which I have been using for a long time, long enough to remember not having problems with it.
I started keeping a log, here is my results for today:
3:26pm, batter starts at 79%
4:40pm = 71%
8:30pm = 51%
9:30pm = 19%
Between 8:30 and 9:30 i did a hard reset, installed some apps, used wifi for a bit to download the apps and get my exchange account setup, and got/sent some text messages. Seems like a pretty huge drop.
Does anyone know of an app that can report current power drain on the Hermes. I remember having something like that for my 8125
Today I just ordered a new OEM battery off of ebay for cheap just to see if it makes any difference, I recommend you all to do the same. It's the first step of the process of elimination....maybe both batteries I have really are bunk...or that i'm spoiled on my TILT's battery life.
Also turn off "beam" that seems to be on by default.
using wifi will drain the battery pretty fast anyway, but i would also check that your rom is not activating wifi on the sly, i had it when i cooked a rom using josh's kitchen and thought it was my battery that was knackered, turned out it was the wifi switching on constantly ,but i had no indication it was on. Not saying that is your problem , but worth checking all the same
Nothing is on in the background.
Battery still draining fast

The battery problem for me happened when I upgraded from WM5 to WM6,
even though I have had my Hermes since 2007 (brand new) I only started using it in Feb 2009. (had enough phones to deal with!!)
I tested my old OEM battery & their doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it, very confusing.
Well i got the new battery in, and in 24 hours i went from 96% to 8% at a drain rate of 3.66% an hour. This is good news, I guess those two other batteries I have are wasted :-/ , but at least the TYTN is ok.

I am also facing the exact problem. But I don't think if it is the problem of battery. I think it's some problem with ROM version..
Any help is appriciated.
I have tried several different ROMs but the battery still drains quickly.
Can anyone on this forum shed some light on this problem at all ?
Have any of the developers experienced battery drain problems ?
Does anyone have a solution ?
Thank's
Hi people,
I have recently dumped a Omnia2 for a Desire, just to try Android.
Although it's a beautiful phone, battery life is [email protected], so I'm considering a come back to WM, maybe to HTC HD2.
But before I make my decision, I want to know if the HD2 battery can last for at least 40 hours in my normal usage:
- 40 minutes of phone calls (made/received);
- 90 minutes (1,5 hours) of listening to music over bluetooth, using a bluetooth stereo headset;
- Auto-sync weather every 3 hours;
- Auto-sync email every 3 hours;
- 10-15 minutes of internet browsing;
- Manual sync of my Google account to update agenda and contacts twice a day.
All connections are made using 3G, I'm over a 3G network all day long.
With this daily usage, I got my Omnia2 running for about 65 hours! Let's say, almost 3 days long! I even left it on all night long, without worrying with the battery. Each day consumed 30%-35% of battery juice.
With that usage in my Desire, after one day 45% to 50% of battery juice is gone. I have to turn it off at night so I can use it the next day without recharging. It's about 26-28 hours of total usage before I have to charge it. I don't know if this is normal, maybe I just got spoiled by Omnia2 battery.
What about HD2? Does anyone have a similar usage? Do you think that if I use a HD2 that way, its battery will last longer than Desire battery?
If I had usage like that I wouldn't carry two batteries around with me Music trashes my battery and takes usage above 300mah which in theory is just over 4 hours and I listen quite a fair bit. The desire has a larger battery than the HD2 anyway and I don't think win mo has that great power management.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i seriously doubt that you will be happy with the HD2 battery performance (based on your usage)
im sure you're aware there are many threads re: the poor battery issue, personally i use my phone much more conservatively than you do & struggle to get more than 1 days use (usually 30% charge remaining by the end of the day).
i mostly use edge (switch to 3g if i want to download large email attachments/ web files or watch online vids)
all updates are manual & wifi & bluetooth switched off.
i decided to stop worrying about the battery some time ago & invested in 2 spare batteries. its not ideal but in this case i think the pros of the HD2 out weight the cons.
probably not what you wanted to hear, but this has been my experience, maybe someone can offer more positive feedback.
however if you like winmo, im sure you wont be disappointed with this excellent phone.
all the best.
battery extender
you could try a battery extender like the just mobile gum pro that i recently bought for UK £33 shipped. it's Li-ion with a capacity of 4400mAh, sufficient to fully recharge my hd2 2-3 times from flat without the inconvenience of having to pop the back and soft reset the phone as you would swapping in a spare hd2 battery.
wow, sorry to say this but hd2 is no match for your usage

that is interesting. How long does it take to recharge the phone???
See this thread
Hi,
Take a look at this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=718173
I regularly get more than 48 hours out of my battery but then I down listen to music much and definitely not via bluetooth so I have no idea how that would affect battery life.
I dow however use my phone a lot for reading ebooks which mean the screens on for extended periods and I still get to 48 hours +.
I'm busy transferring audio books to my phone so will be able to report back soon about extended periods of audio listening but that will be with the wired headset.
Regards

similar to the mains charger -- a couple of hours, and you can use the phone while it's charging (albeit slowing the charge rate). note: this is using the htc-supplied sync cable to charge which might be limiting the current draw to 500mA. the gum pro is rated for 1000mA output and i've just ordered a mini-to micro- usb adaptor with the data lines shorted which apparently fools the phone into thinking a mains charger is connected so that it may draw more current and charge faster still.
i forgot to mention before that the gum pro is relatively small and light -- think the weight of a pack of cards and about 2/3rds the size.
I do;
30min calls a day
1hr wifi router
30+min video playback
20 reminders a day (sound n vibrate)
All net updates every 30min (twitter, 3 emails, weather)
6am off charger - 6pm back on charger and usually has 40-50% battery life...
I reckon the HD2 would come close to your needs but there would be no margin for error. If it did what you asked the battery would die doing it...
I don't get people who want a phone to last 2-3 days...
I mean, don't people sleep at least a few hours everyday (during which the phone could recharge)?

It's a very good battery life you have there. I guess it would fit my needs.
BTW, you are on Telstra operator, right? If I'm not wrong, Telstra has 3G 850mhz. Wouldn't this better battery life?
I just bought a 3800mah extended battery from seido however i noticed my battery life is very similar to the stock. I was also told to first charge my battery up to full when i got it, then wait until it's empty, then go back to full 3 to 4 times to break it in.
Someone read online that i would need to hack the kernal to take full advantage of this new battery though. Can someone explain and answer these myths i hear and make sense how to get full advantage of the extended battery?
Oh. i'm also on rooted liberty 2.0.1 (no tethering yet in gingerbread) if that helps.
Either way, you can't touch the kernel if you want you're phone to boot

Thanks, guess that was just a myth. So then are there any tips to make the phone read the battery as it should? It shouldn't die as fast as my stock battery if it's 2.3 times larger, it should last at least 50% longer, and that's giving it a TON of overhead too..
(dang 5 minute repost >.>)
I paid $11.40 on eBay for my 3800 mah battery and it lasts about 4 days with light usage and about 2.5 days with regular usage IE: internet browsing, game playing, texting all day, send a few emails, not to mention about an hours worth of calls per day. And my phone recognizes the extended battery perfectly I don't need any market apps for the battery to work. I'm running liberty GB v0.7

Just reboot into clockwork recovery, advanced, clear battery stats.
That's as much 'kernel hacking' as you need to do.
Also, I wouldn't trust 3rd party batteries in the future when it comes to android devices.

I understand, though i have been reading only good on seido li-ions... Reason i got this one.
I got the no name brand (made in china 3500mAh) battery. However the logs aren't adjusting the battery readings correctly. I get that alarm at 15% and 5% about needing to plug up, but I just left it till it was dead. 8.8hrs later it died so not sure why that is happening. DO you let it go till dead or till it beeps its annoying alarm at you? Make sure to let it go all the way dead. As far as charging, Mine charges up within 2 hrs now..but the first 3 charges I would let it run dead and then charge for 8 hrs then do it when I sleep now, so I plug it in each night but I can get a full 24hrs of l33t use on it. I only got like 5/6hrs on original battery. Plus I work in a Server room. Dual security and dual brick layers so my radio is working it's a$$ off.
So i was wondering.. How is your battery performance on your Hero ?
Well mine is mere **** to say the least I need to charge it during the night and one more time during the day and when i go to bed its empty again .. Not.. good ! I use the Kimera 3.0 rom, which is perfect speed wise.. But the battery is another story (maybe not because of the rom?)
I use the phone a whole lot though.. Much time on Wifi and when not on wifi im on 3G / HDSPA .. But is the battery really supposed to be THAT ****ty?
Is there anything i can do to fix it?
My battery was holding for about 5 days at the beginning, currently it dropped to 2 days
call+sms+game(30')+wifi
used about 1 day
Battery is draining in no time!
If you are using a Custom ROM, after fully recharging your mobile phone
(i.e don't trust the green led, charge for more time) go to recovery and wipe battery stats.
If you still on stock rom, then start closing wifi/bluetooth etc etc..
My experience is that I had to charge it over night once and at least once
during the day... otherwise I would not be having a mobile phone to use
After 2 years my phone's battery is ... how can I say in one word? hmm ... Oh yeah, CRAP! , I recharge it twice a day or once a day but once a day is the perfect word depending how much Mobile Data I use (social networks, browser) and very few calls of 20 to 40 minutes total each day and maybe just maybe 30 minutes of games (once or twice a week I play games). It's not what it used to be .. now I am thinking getting a pocket for my charger for when I go somewhere
My battery was really bad, I'd have to recharge it at night and around 4 PM. Now I bought a new one and it easily makes it a day with 3g turned on and using it a lot.
dealextreme.com/p/pisen-twin160-replacement-3-7v-1350mah-li-ion-battery-for-htc-g3-hero-more-42658
i don't do much things with my phone except like texts and calls, some times wifi, so my battery can last about 2days, which still makes me have no words to say.
Mine lastes about 1 day(Heavy use). And i think is is perfect because i always recharge over night. So it does not need to last more than 12 h.
A couple months back my battery was getting swollen. Enough to make the battery cover bulge a bit. Battery life became a big problem at the end... turn on 3G and I could watch the battery percentage go down before my eyes.
I bought a battery (http://www.mugen-power-batteries.co...xtended-replacement-battery-for-htc-hero.html) from Mugen's outlet store (which now seems to be gone?)
The new battery is great. It is at least as good as the original but probably better. The new battery has approx 200mAh more capacity.
I can get at least 1.5 - 2 days with 3G/wifi on all the time. I don't let twitter or facebook or whatever sync all the time though.
Battery holding out real well
I am using the Elelinux 7.1 Custom and it feels like the Battery life has improved. it ist holding out almost 2 and a half day, with 3g on during the day.
I can't remember the battery lasting longer than that but of course shorter. tried a senserom once Hero lived about 24 h.
I am expecting somehow the battery to crash soon I am using him since 2.5 years.
We will see.
I have just bought a new battery for my phone but it still dorps to 45% from the 8 in the morn till 23PM. Old one didn't make it till the night.
Average use. Half an hour calls, all time data network connection at hsdpa. 2 email accounts + gmail and facebook syncing.
I charge my hero every night save in exceptional cases, use the 3G connection when away from home and wi fi when they are, I surf on the internet enough and i play with games sometimes!
I think it's okay
i can use it fro an entire day w/o the battery dropping below 30% so im very happy with it. I always load it when I'm at home
After 2 years my phones battery still doesn't drain that much energy. I can llast 2 days with my Hero with the ICS rom from Glassmacka [Ice Cream Sandwich for Hero
So I bought a Venue Pro and I'm loving it! However, after a full charge, hours later in the battery info under settings the battery life falls very fast and says 2 hours left. Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks in advance!
I found out the answer myself. Unless you charge it from the computer it will not show you correct battery life or it doesn't charge properly. One of the two.
I thought I had solved it but no, it just charged slower and the battery I'd going equally fast. Can someone please give me a solution? Thanks
i think you simply have a bad battery.
DVP in general charges pretty fast, one hour on PC USB (500mA max) gets you a full charge.

hmm 1 hour on PC USB? Mine takes close to 3-4 hours for full charge. My battery lasts 1 day with moderate usage. So could it be that my DVP battery is bad too?
Either you have a bad battery, or maybe it's still being calibrated?
I bought a used DVP, and the battery on it lasts a whole day on moderate usage, and almost 2 days on light usage.

My battery takes 4 hours for full charge via PC and finishes to zero in 5 hours. I charged it 100% this morning, disconnected it, put it on lock screen and I've just come home and the battery has fallen to 42% even though it was on lock screen. I always keep my screen on low brightness. Will my battery calibrate in a week or do I have to buy a new battery?
Oh and I am a VERY light user. My phone isn't unlocked so I don't use cellular connection. I simply message my friends on WhatsApp and browse the web a little. Battery just fell 2% again.
The battery life is crap, thats basically it. Had several devices, none of them could last a day without basically no usage at all. Best to get used to charging it whenever you can or get a spare battery.
Hmm other users are saying theirs last almost 2 days with light usage and I don't even use cellular and it dies extremely fast! The battery life may suck but no device will kill a battery like my DVP is doing right now.If my battery is bad should I buy one of these and which one:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BATTERY-D...808?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a0f77e3f0
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-O...340?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f115330f4
Sadly none of those look legit, the second one has the incorrect wattage (actuall 1400mah) and the first one claims the battery will also fit the Venue, which I think is incorrect. Try contacting the sellers to confirm compatibility and if they will accept returns for a refund.
It comes with a 12 month warranty and and returns accepted if there is a fault. Even if it isn't original will it last and solve the problem I have?
If you can return it, buy it and test it. Only way to know if that will fix your problem. Only other thing I can think of is doing a hard reset and seeing how the device performs with few or no apps installed.
Hmm that seems like the only way. I've already messaged the seller asking him if his battery will fix it and then if it doesn't I will return it. By the way I don't think a hard reset would work as the device was doing this from the first time. Also I already did a hard reset once to change the SD card and it still goes as fast. Thanks for all your help guys.

DVP's battery life is not the best, but as a heavy user I can make 18-22 hours without charging (lot of phone calls, 20-40 incoming e-mails / 1 account, refresh every 15 minute/, no push), which is quite good (of course not a BB 9700 .
I messaged the seller and told him about my problem to which he replied the battery he's selling will fix it, if not I can return it. And 22 hours is quite good battery life. I charged my DVP 100% this morning and went to school. I had no cellular connection so I didn't make any calls or texts and had WiFi off with screen on lowest brightness. I played 5 minutes of movies, took 5 pictures and played 5 minutes of games. When I came home I was down to 30%. A mate of mine suggested I should let my battery die completely then charge it up and do it a few times and that fixes it as he has a blackberry 9900 and he had my problem when he had his phone brand new and after going what he told me for 4 days his battery works fine now. So ill try what my mate told me and if it doesn't work by Saturday I'll order my new battery.
Btw battery fell from 100% to 0% in 9 hours.
