How can I disable update notification? - G1 General

I would like to disable my update notification since my phone provider from my country said that I shouldn't do an update while it's not official for the country. So the constant update reminder is really starting to bug me.
I've been told on other forums that i can disable the notification from Settings>About Phone> Update Settings, however i don't have this option on my G1. It has 1.0 version of android.
What can I do?

About "Allow automatic updating" in Market

I've been searching around for abit and couldn't find answers, so please share if you have the answers
1. This feature, does it always update automatically? Or we can set it to do that only on Wifi, not on 3G? If so, How can I configure this?
2. Occasionally, the notification bar show "Market updates available" - is it the same thing? If not, How can I disable market do the upgrade check in background?
Thanks

1. When you install and application, and then click it again in the market, there will be an option to "Allow automatic updates"... you'll also see this option when Market detects an update is available.
2. Not the same thing... if it was automatically updating in the background, it would disappear from the notification bar... I'm pretty sure if you press Menu->Settings in market, there is an option to check for updates only while on Wifi.
About point 1... don't think I was very clear... I mean if I select the automatic update option, does that mean it will automatically update in background, regardless im on Wifi or 3G? Or it could be configure?
some one have an answer pls?
I would really like the auto update, but i don't have unlimited 3G package here in Vietnam (its really expensive for unlimited)
please someone know the answer pls

Don't worry you can configure that through market application...there is a tick box in every application were you can untick this and then you can update application when you want to
don't let it update automatically, i had it this morning; battery at 80% and noticed that it was downloading at gprs and 3g speeds(I bet it took him a few hours updating)
haven't had anything like that before, just since i'm on a different rom =/
Sadly I don't think you can control updates for the market online when on Wifi. If roaming data is very expensive for you I would suggest disabling it and only enable as and when you require it (hold down the power button and push "Data Network Mode" to activate/deactivate it)
thanks guys!
i have mine set to update automatically, as i have a 6GB data plan
so i'm not worry about the data usage
and it is AWESOME! everytime a new update is available it updates on its own
finally no more clicking update and clicking to confirm
Off topic but how much is data and phone calls in Vietnam? I'm interested in Vinafone
$3 = 300MB/month
call is about $0.05-$0.07/min
-> these are in country rates, not roaming.

[Q] No SMS-notification when receiving a voicemail !?

Hi all,
Need some help here.
I've got my Omnia 7 for almost a year now. I always received an SMS notification when I got a new voicemail. Since recently this doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure when this stopped functioning.
I have recently updated to Mango. A while after that I applied the Samsung Mango update. I suspect one of those updates causes this, but I'm really not sure.
I do get other SMS messages.
I have tried to put my SIM in another phone, called myself, left a voicemail and got an SMS on that phone immediately. Also the other way around, I put another SIM in my phone, call the number of that SIM, leave a voicemail and I did not receive an SMS. This proves, the problem is with my Omnia 7.
I've tried Network Profile. Select another operator. Then select my own operator. Just to make sure all operator settings are applied.
I checked with my operator (dial voicemail and use menu). The SMS notification is enabled. I tried to disable the notification. Restarted the phone. Then enabled the notification again. Restarted the phone again. Still not working.
Anyone has another suggestion? Setting in diagnosis app? Registry setting?
Thanks a lot!!
Heathcliff74
It's a common bug, M$ is fixing it:
“There have been reports of issues centered around voice mail notification via SMS. This is a known issue and Microsoft have a fix available that will go out in the next possible Windows Phone update.”

Ok. Cool! Thanks for the heads up! So it's not just me. There are some OEM updates planned for next week (read that on WMPowerUser.com). Maybe that will fix it. I read the temporary fix might be to delete the "sms conversation" from voicemail number after each message. Will try that. Maybe WP7 sees it as duplicates or something.
Ciao,

My pleasure
Can't wait for some more updates, Mango needs some polish.
This drove me nuts when i realized it was happening, couldn't for the life of me work out what was going on, rang my network and had them reset voice mail, didn't think it was a phone issue as all my other text msgs arrive fine. At least I know now >< very annoying bug as i use my phone for work and need to know if i have msgs on voice mail.
Have just been going through same arguments with Optus in Australia.
Discovered there was an SMS waaaaay down the list of threads from 321 (VoiceMail) that had one message in it with the current date and time acurately showing the current number of messages in my voice mail box.
It seems that it is somehow updating the previous SMS rather than sending it as a new one.
For a temporary work around I discovered if you delete the SMS thread from your Voicemail then the next notification will be treated as a new SMS and will indicate accordingly. Unfortunately you have to delete the thread every time a new Voicemail is received.

[Help] Focus HW Rev 1.4 not able to update latest mango

I bought focus unlocked from ebay.in. When i check on back side found my focus HW rev is 1.4. I am not able to upgrade my focus to latest mango 7720 even with force zune update. i m stuck on 7392. Please help
For now, you're stuck but AT&T promised an update for 1.4 very soon.
Before anyone else shouts at the moon about this, remember who created the issue, as someone nicely said in the last post here.
Good news is that Focus Mango update for revision 1.4 is scheduled for end of October, which means it's on the way. Read here and here.
Shortly:
rev 1.4(LSI) : Update has not entered the AT&T SPE lab yet; however, Samsung is targeting for 10/17 lab entry and 10/31 TA
Hi, I too purchased the Samsung Focus from eBay.in. It's HW Rev 1.4 too. It is supposed to be factory unlocked, so how does AT&T come into picture here?

All carriers have a list of the IMEI of the phones they sold and they share the database with Microsoft. When you connect to Zune, the MS database tells Zune that the phone belongs to carrier X and checks if the carrier has released the update (has given the OK). The carrier updates the database with the IMEIs supposed to get the update.
For a clearer picture, when you connect your phone in Zune it goes like this:
- Zune sends OS/hardware info to "MS Server 1"
- MS server 1 responds: yes there is an update for this OS/hardware
- Zune sends request to "MS server 2": is the phone's IMEI in the carrier allowed database?
- MS server 2 responds. if the answer is yes then you will get the update in Zune.
MS Server 1 checks update availability against hardware/OS
MS Server 2 checks the phone's IMEI against carrier's database
This is why Focus 1.4 update has been delayed by AT&T. MS Server 1 responds yes, there is an update but the carrier database doesn't have the IMEIs.
Thanks a lot for the detailed reply! So, I'll just have to wait till AT&T rolls out the update.
If I could bother you with one more thing - I can access the web marketplace for India, but I can't access it on the phone (it is on version 7392). Is there any workaround on Zune (the registry hack doesn't work anymore) that will get me access to this without Mango update?

It means that the regional settings on your PC are not set to India. You need to go to "Region and Language" in Control Panel in Windowns 7 (or equivalent) and set the country and related settings to India. It should work after that.
I should have been clearer. I meant I can see that there is an Indian marketplace where I can buy apps in Indian currency, but I can't access it via the phone or Zune. In Zune help section I saw that there is a tab for marketplace but it's missing on mine. All my location settings - laptop, phone and live ID are set to India.
The phone is amazing as it is, without Mango (I installed a 16GB MicroSD card in it) and only the marketplace is missing. That's why I was wondering if there was any workaround like the registry fix to access it.
Thanks!
I think I've read somewhere around the forum that what you ask is not possible but it's not my area, maybe someone else can help you.
Btw, to enable receiving PMs, go to "User CP" and click "Edit Options".
Locate:
Private Messaging
This forum features a private messaging system, which allows members to send messages to one another privately.
If you do not want to send or receive private messages, you may disable the private messaging system.
and tick
"Enable Private Messaging"
(should be the 6th box to tick starting from the top)

Could you please tell me the name of the seller on ebay.in from whom you purchased your Focus? I am planning to purchase one too, and I don't want to end up with rev 1.4.
Thanks.

I just got a notif saying I need to do ANOTHER system update. Does anyone have details on these two updates yet? TMO S5...
NM it went away. It appears to have been a msg from the first update (?) or an update for another app / service that notifies using the same intrusive onscreen msg.
