where are they???
i was under the impression that a lot was in development but its been ages and no new panels
i searching too
i know same where
Just look here.
Sticky!!
few panels with doubtful usefulness ....
well the sdk was released way before the device
and it's pretty much just normal win32 in c++
so I asume that sonyE want you to make them
would not wait too long for SonyE to make them for us
I believe SE was/is running a "content creation" competition, which has a submission end date of January 30th. I would expect Panels would be considered as content.
Results of the competition could well be revealed at MWC, which i believe to be mid February.
Likely SE is holding back on releasing any new panels till they see what other developers have been up to.

sounds like FUD to me
Well, just read the news today and it's not looking too good.
There is this as well:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/29/sony-ericssons-xperia-x1-delayed-to-end-of-the-year/
Which is highly confusing. The pre-release version that I'm using is working fine as I'm sure the other that have here as well. Never had any problems with the screen or the SE panels and I use it every day with all sort of apps.
Could they be waiting for WM7 to be released?!
http://www.theunwired.net/?item=future-does-sony-wants-a-divorce-from-ericsson
seems to be lots of rumors about se these days
Hope not as well.
I have currently an "old" SE S800 and it has worked without a hitch for the best part of 4 years.
I was really looking forward to the release of the X1 in end of September / mid October 2008. Now it seems its like "Vapourware".
Now you see it, but sorry you can't buy it. May be later? Maybe later later? In actual fact we don't know if it will ever be on sale.
Pardon my expression, but "this sucks".
If there is no competition in this area, how are we, the consumer, going to benefit from lowering prices and more added features?
Just my 2 cents.

Windows Mobile 6.6 (aka 'not Windows Mobile 7') set for February release?
The sometimes-believable, sometimes-not fellows over at DigiTimes are reporting today that Windows Mobile codename "Maldives" is going to break out as version 6.6 (a name we'd previously heard associated with version 7) with native support for capacitive touchscreens next month -- a launch window that would line up nicely with Mobile World Congress, where 6.5 was announced a year prior. HTC's HD2 has already proven that it's possible to cleanly support capacitive touch on a 6.x-based device, so it's reasonable to think that this is legit -- but what we don't yet know is how this dovetails with 6.5.3, whether they're the same thing, and if Microsoft is doing this simply to buy itself a few precious extra months to bake WinMo 7 to a crispy, golden brown perfection. We'd already heard before that 6.x and 7 will have an opportunity to coexist in the marketplace, so it's entirely possible that 6.6 is the version that'll carry that torch on the 6.x side of things -- but if this gets announced alone without a mention of Robbie's ground-up rewrite at MWC, we'd wager there'll be riots in Barcelona.

It looks to me like an official name for builds 6.5.x. It may have something like OS 29000 with more bug fixes but it shouldn't be much different from what we have now. (in my opinion)

Yes, saw that. I bit disappointed in also reading that WM7 will be delayed further into the next following year. You can tell Microsoft is fighting for their life to stay above water as this is there last life saver.
WM6.6 probably doesn't exist. Digitimes mentions 'Maldives', which is actually WM6.5.X.
if Windows Mobile 7 is going to come 2011, then Microsoft should just stop developing and concentrate on other stuff and not waste our time...
WTF

^is that? really?
winmo 7 was supposed to come LAST year and now its supposed to come NEXT year...2 years delay? are you serious?
Really, how are they going to catch up? Android and iPhone OS are going to run away with huge market share and if that happens, then nobody is going to support microsoft's platform which means those loyal winmo customers like me and you will have to jump off the band wagon.
It would be a huge bummer if thats really true.
Nah....WM7 will come this year. WM6.6 will coexist with WM7 for the "not-so-powerfull" devices.
I don't believe a thing until we're told it from the horses mouth..
Winmo7 is supposed to be launched at MWC
6.6 is more likely to be a rollout upgrade..
neither of which is confirmed till we hear it from MS.. there's so many rumours going around, and that's all they are. Rumours..
any news??
Has anyone heard anything about HTC releasing version 6.6 ROM any time soon?? Last month eta was February, hopefully that is still unchanged?
If anyone has any news, please post it!
Thanks!

Cause maybe they afraid too suck's one time again !!
But this thread isn't in right place !!!
As much as I hate to admit it, I have to agree. By the time WP7 is here, Android and iPhone OS will have seen major advances, which will put MS in the position of playing "catch up" again in the mobile market.
I am amazed that a company with such a vast market share in other arenas, and huge amount of resources cannot actually deliver a product on time, or anywhere even close to the time schedule they set for themselves.
Of course, it could happen, and WP7 could actually be released, but then... I'd rather that they waited to release a functional product and not release it just to say they did, as has been there response to such situations in the past.
The overall strategy puzzles me, really.
I'd like to see 6.6, but I hate the new bottom button focus that it 6.5.x has developed with a passion, so I can only imagine it will be more of the same. The bottom buttons, and double home screen clocks destroy the esthetic of HTC Sense, IMO.

That jackass... you want to bet they are officially announcing no more updates for X10 after this year
well i read somewhere yesterday that SE is planning to provide updates to the X10 throughout its lifespan so that the phone is not antiquated easily.
now i wonder what is the lifespan of x10 according to SE..!!
Maybe this is where they announce the release of a future device with a new design and actual up to date software?
Yes its going to be called the psphone
Grand opening and he is drunk?
Mmmm are we getting android 3 before psp2?
Sucks for psp department, cos se are lazy ass.

Could possibly be an SE WP7 phone and/or a new android phone. Could be the 'rumoured' Xperia X11 and Xperia X12. Would hope there is continued support for the X10 announced regardless of what happens.

How about skipping the conspiracy theories?
An X12 (or whatever they'll call the +1 version) preview would seem likely or perhaps even an updated roadmap for the year 2011. All nay-sayers seem to enjoy that we haven't gotten any info about Froyo and use the 2010 roadmap to support their thesis that we won't get it at all.
But on the other hand you can take the "SE is not pure evil" route and consider that the 2.2 kernel was trickier than anticipated to port and thus delayed. It's not impossible that we could get Froyo in 2011 and shipping that in 1H 2011 could be considered a big thing.

And then there's the rumoured PSPhone, and who knows... an X10 tab LOL

Exactly.
I think that SE may have got their act together (in thinking about software as well as hardware), and are maybe waiting to update to the next android revision (2.2+) or they've had problems with porting froyo, as you say.
But I think that they will also release newer phones around march to halfway through next year, that'll be announced in the next few months.
I think the X10 is supposed to have a 2 year lifespan... No?

they definately will and lets hope the x10 gets supported longer than what most ppl think...!!
I would be willing to bet that they will announce the release of their latest must have device. It will be such a draw that X10 owners will forget that they are still waiting for their revision to be completed. We will all rush to have this new must have device with nearly all the bells and whistles. Only, we will have to wait a bit longer for a software revision that will take, oh about forever, or just long enough for SE to announce their next latest and greatest. Which will also make you forget that you are still waiting for your current devices revision. and so on, and so on, and so on.
This is like da ja vue.
It is starting to bare more than a strong resemblance to what happened to me with the P900, P910, and X1.
The cynic in me says hey, we cant update the x10 as we thought so chuck out a new model for our loyal customers to buy...... i only had mine cos voda said new firmware sept. Oh bugger nuts!

If that happened to you with the P900,why buy the P910 and the X1, and then the X10?
And why tell us not to buy SE when you did buy,and you will continue to buy SE products?

I know. Believe me looking back I feel pretty silly.
Edit- Sorry, to answer you question. I actually might, if it were truly great. But believe me I would wait several months for the product to be tested by the market, and only if the device is release as planned. No more broken promises. I would rather have a lesser device with a company that is more straight forward!

LOL..!!
seems to be that way since long time...!!
I predict WP7 devices, some feature phones and two new android phones that will look amazing and have everyone thinking about them until they come out at the end of 2011 once every other manufacturer has surpassed any glitzy features they came up with to make you want them now.
Does this sound familiar?
At the moment I'm interested in what they will do for their next hardware. I've got my x10 and as much as I'm frustrated at the way its been produced and the laughable software updates i still like it so much more than my HTC Touch Diamond.
Its clear that wanting to level with the other android devices simply isn't going to happen so lets all get on with waiting out our contracts and hope the next SE android device really kicks ass.
SE is sitting on the key brands that make a top multimedia device and simply needs to stop holding back on features from the Cybershot and Walkman brand rather than coming up with the smoke and mirrors of Timescape and Mediascape. If these apps must continue to be part of the Xperia line then have them as apps instead of welded in bloatware.
I wish there was some way of making sure that this happened but it seems that we can petition and moan on blogs and forums until we're blue in the fingers but in the end SE will do whatever they want and that tends to have nothing to do with what we the Geek consumer wants.
I'll stay hopeful.
"Most truths we're once deemed blasphemies"
Check out this poll on Gizmodo. It seems the tech blog is predicting SE's demise. I tend to agree with them given the current state of their phones. Eventually SE will die if they keep doing what they do now, but maybe not as quickly as they predict (e.g. end of year to max 18 months).
http://gizmodo.com/5669954/how-much-longer-is-sony-ericsson-going-to-be-around
Like.......!
Do you know what though.. SE may have made a fairly big arse of there first foray into the Android market.. but they will have paid serious attention to the reaction from us (all of us).. and I believe that they will make their UXP a lot less integrated into Android in the future to allow them to..
Quote from Rikard Skogberg today...
"Regarding building work arounds for the things missing in 2.1. I do understand that in theory it would be possible – however if there is something we have learned over this year it is to not dig too deep into the underlying OS but rather build things on top. This of course to be able to be much more responsive on OS revision step-ups in the future. Hope that makes sense."
Well, SE just announced a third quarter of profit with a benefice of 49 millions € this quarter.
So i guess Gizmodo is talking (i)**** once more.
Gizmodo asks when will Sony Ericsson die?
long time after this thread gets closed.
Ok so,
The X10 has a 16M colour screen
The X10 has a Multi-Touch capable screen
The X10 has Wireless N capability (not yet confirmed!)
The X10 has a powerful CPU
And yet Sony Ericsson dose not make use of these features.
Did they just add the more expensive hardware to push the price of the phone up?
Sure seems that way.
What they are doing is like buying more RAM for your PC and not actually using it. Just putting it on the desk to sit there and collect dust.
I just don't get it at all. Makes not sense what so ever.
If Jeff is still here maybe you would like to comment on this?
I think their software developers just suck. They make amazing hardware but fail at software on everything. I have owned 2 SE phones in the past and both had buggy interface. Same for earlier versions of the PSP. Sony is a hardware company.
I have owned 4 SE's and it always seems to be the same problem. You think I would have learned my lesson.
SE like to use the latest hardware in their advertising to trick customers into thinking that SE phones actually use the latest hardware. This is how SE push up the price of their devices. Then they promise customers that their device will be able to run the latest features once their product gets a software update, in the not too distant future of course. This usually takes around a year. Then while you're waiting for their update service, they try to compare their product with features their devices will have in the future, to what other products are actually currently using. And, SE never take into account that by the time their product is updated, that it will be updated to OUTDATED software. Then you have to sit back and watch whilst nearly every other flagship device from their competitors are enjoying feature you will never have on your SE device. Some times these other devices are even running the latest features on less hardware. And finally after all this, SE announce their next product release and repeat the whole process all over agian.
Nearly a years wait and still waiting just so we can import face book contacts! What a joke. (very slight exaggeration, but you get the point)
I tried to tell people this would happen back in April. I hate to say I told you so, but...
To say I will never buy another Sony or SE product as long as I live would be an understatement.

I could have said it better myself.
SE is all about the hardware.
The development team seems mediocre and that's too bad.
Well, let's hope the bootloader gets cracked...
Maybe SE will see the light an actually get their **** together!.
I will be contacting the CEO of SE about this as well.. I don't expect id get a reply or even a decent one if i do but meh
this thread contributes nothing
