I know most of us has seen this error message but my problem is...I cant really find any thread or so saying what causes it or how it is solved. Any help is appreciated...if is even a link.
Thanks

use google.com
http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsmobile/thread/f2b04e26-e467-426e-9efd-07d4a246e05e/

Not so easy unfortunately, none of those fixes works for me. Infuriating!!

What has worked for me is just sync without any internetpages open! Very simpel solution, but does the trick!
Just close all internetpages, sync your device and when sync is done start your browsing... Maybe the connection will be stay on, and then again maybe not...
I also use soti pocket controller and this also shuts down when there is too much computeractivity
Has helped me out, although im in the least satisfied with the solution...

ActiveSync with Exchange over GPRS

Ok, so I have a server running in my office with MS Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 SP2. As of now, I do not have any SSL certificates on the server. I feel this "might" be the problem, but i'm too inexperienced with Exchange as of now, and Active Sync for that matter. I want to be able to Sync of the GPRS network while on the road with my exchange server to download new e-mails and sync up my sent e-mails, etc etc etc. The problem is when I try to sync it seems like it will work, then gives me a message saying that the domain url is incorrect or something like that. I played around with it a lot before I found this forum. If you need the specific error message and I screw around with it again, because as of now, I just have it syncing with my local computer. Thanks. Also, if I do need SSL certs, where do I go for that...on the cheap side or even on the free side!
Shoot me a PM with some details. I'm about to walk out the door for a few hours, but I can definitely help you out.
Specifically, make sure you mention what errors are showing up in the Event Viewer.
I'll PM you tomorrow, because Cingular dicked me out and forgot to setup my unlimited data plan so my bill is 390 bucks, til i call and have them change it. But I need them to change it before I start messing with this again. So i'll hit you up sometime tomorrow probably. Thanks.
Ok, first you do not need SSL unless your server requires it. Just make sure the SSL check box on the first settings page (on the device) is unchecked.
Next, go to whom ever is in charge of the server (system administrator or something) and check the exact domain name (required on the second page). The domain and the server address are different urls (at leas for my company). Something I didn't know at first and was unable tho sync.
Hope that helps.

Not really, I am running the server myself. I'll mess around with it more soon, once i get this issue resolved with Cingular, I just thought maybe there was a specific way to get it to work.
I hope you don't resolve this via PM.
Our new Sbs/Exchange server arrives today and I'd like to see how this works out.

we've been succesful at using 8125 and Exchange since 03-06.
Make sure you have PDA connect
Exchange 2003/SP2 (with or without SSL will work depending on your security requirements)
Active Sync 4.1 or greater.
Works better with 2.25 ROM
Older ROM 1.8 after unsuccesful attempts to sync will reset the server config schedule to Manual

Here is a great place to start:
http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/index.php?showtopic=6106&hl=exchange
It is based on pre-push, but the setup is really no different. You do need SP2 for Exchange 2003 and a WM5 with the MSFP installed to actually get push, but there is no additional configuration to switch from pull to push.
ok, so finally here is the info. Hopefully you can help me.
The error on my phone is: ActiveSync encountered network problems or an internal server error while synchronizing.
Support Code: 0x85010015
My info.
Server address: mail.getztek.com (i tried mail.getztek.com/exchange but it removes the exchange part)
SSL is OFF.
Username: Zack (and I tried getztek\Zack as well)
Password: it is right
Domain: getztek (this is the NETBIOS name)
Let me know if you can help.
Ok Denial, here you go:

The server is far from being out of memory. There is over 200 MB of free RAM on the server. Just for sh1ts and giggles, i'm going to uninstall the Trend Micro ScanMail so that there is nothing else that could be interfearing with this.
lol, that doesn't help at ALL, thanks for the google is a great thing crap. I really didn't just jump on here asking for help. I googled the crap out of this.
Edit: I dunno why http://mail.getztek.com is showing the RealVNC thing. I never even installed it on that server...

I am not ungreatful you tried to help, far from it in fact. I just don't appreciate the sarcasm by just assuming I never googled this topic. If you don't help, then you don't help.
You need to lose the attitude. You come in here asking for help, don't know a thing about me, and assume I am trying to be a jerk. The first part of the post was help. The second was information on how you can help yourself, which is ALWAYS a better learning experience. Did you indicate you had done ANY research before posting here? No, you did not. You talk in circles around some very vague errors but not until the post I responded to did you offer any real information about what problem you were specifically having.
When you ask for help, try to be a bit more gracious to the people trying to offer it. Even if the answers you get are wrong, at least someone is trying to help.

your right, i'm sorry. Its been a stressful couple of days and trying to get this stupid thing to work is making me want to pull my hair out.
1) You do not need an SSL certificate for this to work, but if you are not using one to secure your server it is only a matter of time before the server no longer belongs to you. Secure your server.
2) Can you connect your device to your computer and sync with the server? Again, NOT syncing with your local outlook but with the Exchange server.
3) Assuming you are using a device wih WiFi, can you sync on your internal network over WiFi to the exchange server?
The first step is getting it to work inside your firewall. Then you can move out to OTA.

Direct Push - Connects & Syncs, but Inbox remains empty

I've searched and searched, but I can't seem to find anyone with this problem.
Basically, I'm trying to get my new Treo 750 to sync over wireless with my Exchange server. I run the Exchange server from my own house, on it's own domain. I've upgraded the Treo 750 to WM6. I previously did not try wireless sync on WM5. My Exchange server is 2003 SP2.
At first, I tried connecting via SSL only to get a message about the certificate not being valid. After fighting and fighting with trying to get the cert on the phone, I finally gave up and disabled SSL on the device in an attempt to connect.... via any means possible.
What I first thought was success has turned into another problem. I know I'm communicating with the server, as the policy from the domain controller made me set a device password. It was at that point that I knew I was getting somewhere. Now, when I hit "sync", I see it checking for changes. At the bottom of the screen, it'll run through each step: Contacts, Calendar, Email and Tasks.
Let me see if I can describe this..... It'll briefly pause at say... 0/80 for my Inbox, then count (very quickly, in large increments) till it hits the 80 and move on to the next item in the synchronization list. This cycle restarts after 5-10 seconds.
When I go to look in my Inbox, it's empty. The only thing I see is at the bottom: "Outlook E-mail 0 Items". Same with Contacts, Calendar, etc...
Now here's the kicker. If I send myself a test email from an outside account... say, Gmail, the sync app will then show "Email 0/81", then tick up to 81 and move on to the next item. However, nothing is downloaded. I can pull up a list of all the personalized folders I've created for my mailstore, and they're all there. I can "subscribe" to them, yet they remain empty as well.
I'm completely at a loss. I don't know what else to do at this point, and it's proving to be a difficult thing to search for. Any advice you can give would be very much appreciated....
As I said, this sync thing is happening pretty much non-stop. It'll rotate through the 4 steps (email, contacts, calendar, Tasks), wait a few seconds, then start it all over.
I've noticed that no other net apps work while this is happening. I actually have to go into ActiveSync and hit stop. After that, net applications (IM, PIE, Opera, etc...) work just fine.
Here is a (truncated) log from the device.
That looks pretty similar to the log I get from my device when I ActiveSync to Exchange. Jave you tried doing a backup and then hard resetting? I find that DirectPush is very finnicky with when it does and doesn't work but may just be my server.
Actually, to completely eliminate the device, I setup the MS WM6 emulator from a computer on an outside network. I got exactly the same thing as on the device. That pretty much tells me it's something on the server.
Here's another tidbit that might help. Before getting this phone, I setup BES Express on my Exchange server. I had problems with it working at first, and read through several guides before I had permissions working right. To this end, I made a lot of permissions-based changes on the Exchange server.
Could this be a permissions issue? How can I check if the permissions are correct?
Ok here's your problem, running another MAPI client on an Exchange server is NEVER a good idea. If you shut down the BES services and then reboot the server, what happens? Also, have you tried checking the Exchange Server event viewer for any info on what's happening server side?

Very good point. I hadn't even consider that. I don't even need it anymore.
That being said, what is the best way to go about uninstalling BES Express w/o jacking up the rest of the Exchange system? Also, have you ever actually heard of this causing the problem I'm experiencing? You sound pretty darn certain when you say: "Ok here's your problem". Each time I find or come up with a possible solution, it never seems to make a difference. Sure, my Exchange installation is "cleaner" and more standardized with each solution I try, but it never resolved the issue.
If you can provide me a decent guide or recommendation for uninstalling BES, I would appreciate it. Unless you have some better tips, I'm using these two pages as guides:
Perform a clean uninstall of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
How to uninstall and re-install BlackBerry Enterprise Server on the same computer with minimal disruption
Ok, stopped all the services, uninstalled BES, deleted all related program directories, and removed all associated registry keys. Logged out of BESAdmin account and removed it from Active Directory.
I did all this from Remote Desktop, so the only thing left to do is reboot the server. I could do it remotely through command line, but it has a habit of freezing up during shut down (it's been doing it for years, doesn't seem to harm a thing). So I won't be able to reboot until I get back in town tonight.... just in case it freezes.
I have a few questions, though. Do I need to make any changes to MAPI (remove, stop, change, etc...)? I still need IMAP access for remote relatives, but I'm gonna get rid of that soon once I get them setup through the VPN.
Anything else I should remove/change?
Oh yeah, just for ****s and giggles, I tried synching again, both with the actual Treo 750 and also with a WM6 emulator on the remote server. I've also tried running the WM6 emulator from the same network as the Exchange server, just to eliminate the firewall, as Direct Push only seems to use ports 80 or 443, depending on whether you have SSL enabled or not.
Correct me if I'm wrong about the firewall ports.
Those are the same ports I have open, but much like yourself (and correct me if I'm wrong) just a casual Sysadmin. While I'm not entirely certain if BES is your issue, I'm inclined to think it may be a MAPI collision between the two. I haven't used BES myself so I can't really advise on the best method to uninstall, but I had a similar issue where my Outlook clients couldn't connect when I installed Outlook on the Exchange server. On another note, why set up VPN when you could just configure RPC over HTTP if you're running the server on Win2k3, it's probaly cut my support calls with users by aboyt 25%. If you'd like I can give you access to a server to compare it to, just PM me if you think that'd help.
I just saw that you also had IMAP open, that's definetly not going to be causing the issue, as I also have that running on my server and have people using it at this very minute. Also, have you tried checking on your device if you go into ActiveSync>Right Softkey>Options and then checking that the boxes besides Contacts, Calendars, Tasks, etc... are checked? I know it's stupid, but I've had issues like that before where I couldn't figure it out for the life of me.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Direct Push uses MAPI at all, so I'm pretty sure it can't be a "MAPI collision", so to speak. I was able to completely remove BES w/o any issues. I rebooted the computer last night, just to be sure, and I'm still showing the same problem. ActiveSync connects and looks like it's synchronizing, but in the end, nothing is actually downloaded from my phone.
I really believe it has something to do with permissions. I say this, because I had a very difficult time getting BES to work. I had to mess with a lot of permissions to get mail flowing to my Blackberry. I can't be sure that I didn't goof something up in the process.
With that being said, everything else works just fine. I can use OMA. I can use OWA either HTTP or SSL (forms-based authentication disabled, of course). I can connect without issue from IMAP, or directly via Exchange over VPN, etc...

I have tried that. I've also tried changing the settings for email from 3 days, to all the other options. It will change the amount of emails ActiveSync "sees", but they still do not download to the phone.
Oh yeah, as far as RPC over HTTP goes, it's one of those "I've always used..." things.
What are the advantages of RPM over HTTP?
I'm not quite sure it's a permissions issue, because as far as I know ActiveSync only uses the standard exchange accounts/services,+ a few virtual directories. What you can try doing is deleting the ActiveSync virtual directory, and then restarting the IIS and Exchange System Attendant services and see if that helps.
RPC over HTTP alleviates the need to have to login to a VPN to check email, it also makes it much easier to configure the client, as they only have to enter their Username+Password and enter the FQDN of the server.

I deleted the ActiveSync virtual dir (which actually had a much longer name), as well as the OMA virtual dir.
Now I get this message when I try to connect. I guess I need some help on rebuilding it now... heh.
As for RPC over HTTP... brainfart. I knew what it is, but I wanted access to remote shares.
As far as permissions go, I'm pretty sure it's not the problem as well. I just created a brand new user and had the same thing happen.

Did you try stopping and then starting the Exchange System Attendant and IIS services, the folders should come back automatically. If all else fails, reboot and see if the folders come back.

I'll be using this guide to completely blast out and rebuild all the owa-related folders:

Ok, I rebuilt everything using Method 2 in the above-linked guide.
Now, I'm getting support code 0x85010014
This pages says the cause is SSL being enabled on the main site, but it's definitely not. There are other vdir pages that have SSL enabled, but none of the default MS dirs... only personal ones I created for other things.

Is there any chance that you have FBA enabled, if you do theres supposed to be some way that you can trick ActiveSync to use a different folder or something. It wasn't really worth it to me, so I just ended up disabling it.

That's the thing. I don't even have a certificate on the site right now. I got rid of the self-issued one, and now I'm waiting on my GoDaddy one. So I don't have FBA enabled. That's why that messages seems so weird...
Hmm, that's odd. I got the same error when I first configure ActiveSync, but now I forget what I did to resolve it. Also, is there any chance you have some sort of IM application, such as Google Talk or AIM? It's a bit easier to resolve these things if you can have a more back and orth communication then a orum post.

Problem with USBTOOL and windows firewall

Hello, maybe, someone can help? I tried to search here, but without sucess. Maybe because of my terrible englisch? So be patient with me, if i have not found the answer here.
1. I did liberate my shift . Very good.
But i can use the USBTOOL only, if the windows firewall is inactive.
If the firewall is active, I cant get connection. In the exception of firewall there is mobile device center allowed. But nothing works.
Maybe i have forgotten any settings? Or does USBTOOL not work with active firewall?
2. I have installed Microsoft Office 2000 with outlook.
If I have connection with USBTOOL ( without firewall ) i can syn data, but if i want sync calendar or adresses, i read: Outlook not installed
If I start Outlook, it always says, Outlook is not standard client, but i can not find, what i have to do. I always say " yes ", but after new start again the same....
I am a bit frustrated....
Thank you for your help.

- are you using Vista, XP or 7 ? (I guess nothing else ^^)
- can you check in windows mobile : start -> settings -> connection -> usb to pc . tell me if the option is checked or unchecked !
I think the problem comes from the second point, it solves most of the issue with USBTOOL when unchecking the option of advanced network
I hope it solves the issue ! About Outlook, I don't know.
Thank you!
This is the perfect solution for my 1st question
Connection works with firewall too, without problems. after unchecking this, there was an installation of a htc-driver. now in the usbtool-window appears amessage, that it is connecting, and it is!
Thank you again.
But after new installing outlook, my 2nd problem is not solved. If anyone has an idea, i would be happy!

owa access

I'm trying hard to like my x1, can anyone help?
Whenever I try to access OWA using either PIE or Opera I get a page cannot be displayed error. Anyone else seen this and got a solution? OWA works fine using my E90 S60 browser.
Thanks, Martyn.
Just tried it on Opera 9.5 build 15202 and it renders really nicely - pleasantly surprised!
Doesn't work in my Opera Mobile. Can't remember the build. It's the one with Manila favs from Itje's thread.
It works nice and is really fast (as always) in latest Opera Mini.

Try Opera Mini.
I'd not like to use Opera Mini for sensible sites
like OWA. It transmits logins over a proxy,i don't
think it's a good idea...
why don't you use Active Sync? You can sync it
manually and e.g. only for the last days. But for
the most it uses less traffic then visiting
the OWA site everyday...
Better yet, set up your push email. It keeps a HTTPS session alive. You just need to install the certificate on your PC to set up the sync, which you can get from OWA.

How?
Will it work without OMA (mobile access)? I don't think so. We don't have a frontend server to support ssl connection from mobile devices, and I'm pretty sure I've tried everything.
If you have a magic way to make it work I would really like to know.
I've been having the same problem...
...and I tried Activesync, but I get a 'certificate' error. I can't figure out how to get the certificate on my device.
I spent days searching the web for an answer... and I gave up after a while.

If you have the .cer file, you just copy it to your device like any other file and run it from there. It should install. I had a few weird cert errors when trying to get mine to work but random poking and prodding seemed to get it up and running eventually.

To be honest, I don't know, I'm not the exchange admin.
My company's fairly tightfisted when it comes to IT expenditure, so I'd be surprised if they forked out anything extra.
A cursory glance at MS's documentation implies that it shouldn't be necessary because as far as the exchange server is concerned, it can't tell the difference between WinMo's client and a regular web browser. I stand to be corrected by someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
Try installing the cert and setting up your server in Active Sync. It should just work.
I had problem in my work getting this working but after a clean install of OWA on our front end server everything worked properly. The only think needed on the X1 was to import the cer file if you going to use Exchange/Active Sync connection as someone has already suggested.
IE and Opera always worked it was just Active Sync which had problems.
I've just recently got an X1 and been trying furiously to get active sync to work. But as I don't have access to the exchange server at work, I've been trying to find out how to obtain a copy of the cert from my outlook.
Haven't been able to find anything, any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Grab the cert from the OWA website, cause it should be SSL encrypted. The browser shows the encryption with a small lock symbol. Click on it an get more information about the cert. When you opened it, open the cert for the CA shown on the last register. In there choose "save to file" and copy it to your phone.
On the phone open the cert with any file explorer, that will import it into the phone's cert store. From now your phone will trust your company internal CA.
This way is only useful, if your company uses self generated certs with an internal CA. You can see this, if your browser at home (the pc there has nothing to do with your company) show an cert warning, if you open the OWA website. If you really can't get acces to this site from the internet, forget all of the above
Brilliant! I'll give that a go when I get home! I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again mcfisch!
I just realised what I did wrong the first time. Under server, I put the wrong address didn't I. However, I've come across another problem, Where it asks for the login credentials, there' username, password and domain, what do I put under domain?
Its all sorted now! I can't believe I was being such a dumbass! I was over complicating things way too much!
Happy days!!!!!!!!

exchange - security certificates

Hi,
i hope somebody can help me with my activesync error 0x80072F06; it says that the server security certificates are invalid, which i can't understand at all: I have my touch2 connected to my microsoft exchange server 2010 and imported my servers security certificate (which i first exported on my desktop using internet explorer). At first i tried to sync the phone at home by wifi and entered my servers local IP -> worked exactly as i should.
But as soon as i enter my external ip my certificate it doesnt work anymore and gives me the above error...
But i don't understand why i can successfully sync the phone the first time after i entered the settings and also the first time every day when the exchange server/the phone try to connect (some minutes after midnight) it works, but why not always?
I hope i could give you enough information to help me solve my problem.

I've always been able to sync without a security certificate...I don't know if this is related at all, but you can try this: http://www.mobilitydigest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259&highlight=exchange+security
Thanks a lot, would be really great, but sadly it doesn't work under windows mobile 6.5... i tried to install the version for windows mobile 6.1 professional but it always gives me an error (unexpected error in stay config.exe) when i try to save the settings... (although i installed the 2.0 version)
is there any other way (maybe a registry setting) to disable the certificates?
thank you for your help,

can you try changing the connection speed?
mine is in dutch, but it must be something like:
settings-->connections-->USB to PC-->uncheck the option for a faster connection.
Hi,
i'm not connecting to a local pc over usb so i don't think i can change the connection speed as i'm connecting to an exchange server over umts/hsdpa/3g or wifi... I hope that was what you ment?
Thanks for your help!

Hey Saw,
Did you import the certificate with an .P7B extention? I also tried the DER encoded binary and the Base-64 encoded (both .CER). But the Cryptographic message syntax standard was the one that worked for me.

Click to collapse
oops, than you can disregard my idea ;-)
Hi,
which way did you export your certificate/ which program did you use?
Thank you for your help, i hope this is going to solve the problem! But if its not, nobody has an idea how to turn off windows mobile asking for valid certificates?
saw45
ok i imported now the certificate in cryptographic message syntax standard (.p7b) but it didn't change anything
I really don't know what to do... ironically the perfect exchange integration was one of the points why i decided to buy a windows mobile based phone
i don't really understand why it works at 00:01 and then the phone decides that the certificate isn't valid?? When i start the phone at 2 pm the first time (that day) it also works!? But after the first sync no matter what i do it won't work again!
I really hope somebody can help me!
