HTC is committed to delivering a portfolio of devices that offer a wide variety of communication, connectivity and entertainment functionality. HTC does not offer dedicated or optimized multimedia devices and can confirm that its Qualcomm MSM7xxx-based devices do not use ATI’s Imageon video acceleration hardware.
HTC believes the overall value of its devices based on their combination of functionality and connectivity exceeds their ability to play or render high-resolution video. These devices do still provide a rich multimedia experience comparable to that of most smartphones and enable a variety of audio and video file formats.
HTC values its customers and the overall online community of mobile device enthusiasts and fans. HTC plans to include video acceleration hardware in future video-centric devices that will enable high-resolution video support.

----> Whole Article! <----
I dont know how you would understand this but as far as i understand it, THEY WONT include video acceleration for Blackstone.
So HTC says that the combination of functionality and connectivity is so good, that they don't need to provide drivers to utilize the hardware? That's an interesting point of view, bound to loose costumers. Sounds more like a bad excuse for not having the technical skills needed IMHO
Same story all over again ... how can they get away with it ?!
Let's just hope this problem will solve next year, with nVidia.
They take their job a bit more serious, unlike Qualcomm, which seems like a joke for them. Whole company is a joke, if you ask me.
Imagine Touch HD with proper chipset, damn it.
I mean, some devices are couple of years old, but can still kick HD's (and so on) ass, even with less RAM and "slower CPU".
Root, kako si drugače zadovoljen s HD-jem?
As i already own the phone it really doesnt help me a lot "next year nVidia", but well... i'll adapt, although currently i am thinking about returning it back. Actually if Qualcomm / HTC would be smart, they would offer their drivers for people wanting more from their blackstone, i wouldnt mind paying 50-100$ for drivers...

for these drivers i would also pay a few bucks.

Hmmm, isnt there some device with same chipset to its official drivers and figure out how they are working?
Jep if HTC don't give us the drivers or somebody can make them this is also my last HTC. I dont pay a second time 700€/1000$/1500A$ for a HTC, if HTC has this politic !!
That news article is dated Jan 2008, so they've had a year to provide improved hardware acceleration and it's still not around.
All this stupidity reaches all the way back to the Kaiser ( if not further ), owned one, sticked to it almost a year, and still nothing.
Really sad part is that all new HTC's devices are still affected, even if they are based on new versions of the chipset.
There was, if I recall properly, one of a kind Kasier, which had the drivers included, but sadly those who were testing it, didn't know how to dump a ROM.
It would be better if they'd stick with Samsung or XScale.
I really, really hope I won't be burned again in the future. But still, who does the job better than HTC?
We have by far the best support from our beloved chefs who make our devices better, but on the downside have to eat all this HTC / Qualcomm crap
hang on fellas!
there might be sum good news ahead.
I'm sure I read somewhere ATI sold off its graphics for phones to qualcomm let me find the link...If this is the case it should mean drivers are en route no?

And i also know why. The amount of people knowing about this issue is really small and until enough users of HTC phones wont start protesting nothing will change. This issue needs a bit of media attention.

I agree petition might let HTC aware how many of us are out there. I asked my salesman ybout the driver support before buying it was one of my priorities.
HTC if you're reading this please find a way to make drivers.
I agree. It's sad that htc devices, such as the blackstone, don't provide for example good video playback (without converting it) because of the missing drivers.
The hardware is there, we only need the drivers...

Yeah, Google has just announced that Android is a platform there is no real GPhone. ok. I'm sure a lot of us are more than interested in getting this platform on our existing phone.
My question to those who understand the internals of our existing HTC phones. Is there hope for us to scrap WinMo and put Android instead. Their website makes it sound like it can be done.
What do you think?
I don't know the answer to that, but it sure seems like it, e specially since Sprint and other carriers are also joining hte Open handset alliance, they may provide support for linking Android with their services and configuration. I can't wait.
Wasn't there a pooled $$ reward that someone set up for the first person who could get Win XP running on the new Intel macs (prior to bootcamp). I suggest a similar motivational scheme (if necessary) to compensate whoever can accomplish a similar feat: getting Android to run on existing HTC hardware.
Anyone interested?
That would be super cool. I mean, I really can't wait...
What if we start a fund-raiser managed by the admins to request donations from members towards the reward? I'm sure that would be even more motivating.
Pool
I would love to start a pool too! The only problem is there are too many devices to support. With getting XP to run on an Intel mac, they all run the same hardware. My Athena is a lot different then somebodies universal or wizard. I'm guessing it will be just like the efforts to port linux over to our handsets. I'm hoping for my device to be able to run it but it would be a huge effort to be able to support all the devices.

It may not be that hard (theoretically) because they (OHA) did all the ground work of getting linux to run on our devices. The work (I think) is in dealing with the customizations for each device. The min requirements they stated seem well below what most of our devices are capable of, so that shouldn't be a problem either. Maybe we'll just have to wait until a device from HTC with that ROM comes out.
WARNING!! I absolutely am talking out of no knowlege.

HTC and Google are working together to release a new phone that will run on the Android platform. The phone will reportedly have a 3- by 5-inch swivel screen like the SideKick that will automatically rotate from portrait to landscape. It will have a full QWERTY keyboard as well, but the coolest part about the phone is the "time-sensitive" touch menus that will expand depending on how long the users touch the screen.

Think of this though, we're struggling at the moment dealing with stability and functionality issues with WinMo on our devices made for that platform. How much more with a totally alien OS coded by a single individual. In as much as I think it was a great achievement, I do not think it was a workable substitute for WinMo. This however presents a huge posibility ..... my .02.

i thought it looked quite nice.lol. can never tell from just pictures anyway. ill reserve judgement for when i see one in the flesh. id imagine its like when they went from the p900 to p910. where they didnt really change the specs much but improved on a lot of the bugs and usuability. im hoping they sorted the keyboard issue and the terrible reception...
I thought it looked nice. The camera is better, and what does it for me is the fact that it gains tv-out.
Where does it say it is using the same processor?

looks like much more solid than the x1, also its got a flush screen and the led has moved to the top rather than 2 on each side which is dissapointing. was hoping they had kept the illuminations and mayb added a user editor this time around.
very nice user interface but i wouldnt be surprised if someone manages to figure out a way to flash it to the X1
dont like the sound of this though..

I wish our great cookers gonna steal some stuff from x2 like PanelManager and some new panels. On second video we can see that performance is quite bad, normal honeycomb menu is very choppy. I think it's waste of money when the same stuff we can have on our x1

there absolutely no reason for this big difference between the two devices. especially when you consider that the NeoTouch has less specs.
would someone with a device try to disable Manilla and redo these tests
hope the HSPL gets done soon enough
the only thing i can think of that make explain part of the discrepancy, is that the s200 has a cleaner smaller rom.
anybody here with an HD2 can do some tests with core player and see the effect of speed after disabling Sense
I couldn't believe it aswell. Mayb having a smaller screen makes a diffrence....

maybe (long-shot here) but what he means is that the power to keep the screen on is using the CPU power hence the loss of power going to playback, resulting in lower percentage.... the movie also started after the Acer, even though they were pushed at the same time...

The drivers don't matter in coreplayer as neither have gpu-acceleration in that specific application, so it all comes down to general processing speed in which they should pretty much equal each other. Guessing HTC's own rom is a bit slower than acer's, but that should be fixed by all of the very talented cooks on this forum.

This post by Betaboy should clear things up:

All I want to be very, very clear here as I have stated this a few times in these and other forums like XDA.
- Qualcomm has not released ANY public info in regards to snapdragon/QTV.
- What we added for overlay support was based on the exposed API's when we reverse engineered it.
- There are no other means of 'public' access to the API's and how the GPU functions (no matter how hard we could have reverse engineered it.)
What I have stated publicly is all that I 'can' say on the subject (read into that as you see fit).... we have worked on hardware acceleration, the details of which I cannot disclose. So any OEM solutions that license CorePlayer, will benefit from any such efforts.
In short... Will there be a 'consumer' version of CorePlayer that supports Snapdragon? No, not unless Qualcomm opens up the API's to the public.

It doesn't. CorePlayer has a "Qtv" mode where they use their own "driver" - well, sort of. But there are also other ways to render video in CP - DirectX, GDI and RawFrameBuffer, if I remember correctly. If you use APIs like DirectX, you'll need a device driver for it to work. I don't know which mode they used in the benchmark.

HTC messed up something real bad
at least its beating the toshiba tg01 here
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/4wm-reviews-hardware/22380-o2-htc-hd2-review.html
Even my HD have 8 to 10% more benchmark when Touchflo3D is disabled.
Also, the Acer have lesser hardware comparing to HD.
(like lack of GPS, compass)
So, this is actually acceptable performance.
Lack of gps?
What are you talking about? I have an Acer F1 and the gps works fine.
QTv is not necessary/not implemented in Snapdragon cause this option doesnt exist for Coreplayer. Also the DirectDraw and GDI mode doesnt work for Qualcomm's former processors (like 72xx). Im very sure HTC messed up the drivers like they always do ^^.
Acer may be faster, but you know it will broke after 12 months and 1 day
i did a benchmark of my HD2 and the result index is 2040, a better result than what is written in your comparison.
I think, these test was made with the first HD2 and not with those which are sold now...

Seen as there are no phones released for WP7 they had to use some sort of prop for the video!
from the still of the video, I'd say it's either not an HD2 (you can guess only from camera lens and leds), or they went so far as to model it to look thicker and with "rounder" edges.
Still, the fact that they did so much to camouflage it being an HD2 (admitting it actually is), if nothing else, proves that they didn't want to give too many hopes about hd2 getting WM7,otherwise it would have been a good idea to take the most succesful WM device on the market right now and put it in a WM7 video...
Sure, but I have no doubt that WM7 will be running on the HD2 soon after release (if not before.) It uses a newer version of the Windows CE core, so it isn't that inconceivable that it will find its way to the HD2, one way or another. Not sure what all the fuss is about, really. After seeing the videos, the interface is not that great. It is better than 6.5, but Microsoft has NEVER been known for its design strength or esthetic sense. Sure, the guy who was a designer for Nike is responsible for it, but how much do tennis shoes and cellular phone UI's have in common?
I hate the fact that MS has decided to take the position that they have with regard to the UI, but if history shows us anything, this "limit" will mean nothing. Any barrier they put up will eventually be crossed by someone.
I still think that Sense is the best mobile UI experience, and I really like it on the HD2. Microsoft has publicly stated that they will continue development on WM 6.5, so I hope that it gets updated, along with Sense, to preserve what is special about the HD2 user experience. It's just cool, and it does everything I needed my phone to do... even more so with custom ROMs.

Looks like an iPhone to me
A mocked up photo no more means an upgrade for the HD2 than a mocked up photo of a car on the moon means that it is capable of space flight!
Leaks aside, I can't see HTC rushing to provide an upgrade for a device that will be nudging a year old come the time WM7 hits the market. It's rather more likely that MS are teeing up device manufacturers for the next generation of phones. Any link to the HD2, even tenuous ones like the phone in the video, may be because the HD2 is one of very few devices capable of running their alpha/proof of concept.
As to whether I actually want the upgrade...looks OK-ish but seems to be moving too far towards the 'I won't like it if it's too hard and needs me to think for myself' brigade of Apple-loving iWhingers for my tastes. Of course this is all still essentially speculation.
lucky we got htc sence because the OS 7 interface looks ugly
if wm7 doesnot support other ui ,then all the years of development done by htc untill reaching htc sense 2.5 will be threw to rubbish as all future htc phones will not have htc sense , may be hd2 is the last device to use sense 2.5 in htc windows product line ,

there is always potential for windows 6.7 upgrade for future devices
There actually will be concurrent and continued development of WM 6.5, per Microsoft's direct statements, and Sense UI will continue to be used in other platforms, most notably, Android, so Sense is safe for the foreseeable future. I don't think HTC will scrap it, nor should they do so.
I love the Sense UI, and I wish that MS would adopt it as the stock UI in WM7, but they never asked me.
Seriously, can you imagine how it could be improved if it wasn't just a skin, but actually a part of the OS itself?
Sorry, but the Xperia X1 has been also in WM6.5-promos and it has never got an update...

I found that odd as well. Nike? What's that got to do with user interfaces??
WP7 just barely works during some of the video presentations I've seen today. In a couple of the videos, the presenter had to go back to the home panel a few times and try again or just continue on to the next feature.
It might be December before it comes out and then most of you guys will be lusting after the HD3.
Isn't HTC going to have a press event tomorrow at MWC? Maybe someone will ask a question on whether or not the HD2 will receive an upgrade to WP7?
HD2 Running WP7
I hope we can have this OS soon...

I just hope it's not fake...
Hello guys!
In about a week I'm going to the VIP launch event of the new Xperia-line in Brussels. I'll be able to extensively test the new phones and ask questions about them. If there is anything you want to know or want me to try out, please let me know in this topic.
It's Wednesday the 23'd, so you still have some time!

Hey
I'd like to know how all the basic applications are on the Arc, compared to HTC's. I'm talking about the dialer, contacts, calendar, clock and also Facebook integration... those things. I like HTC's, and I don't really like the stocks Android ones, so I'm wondering... No one really looks at those in reviews so far.
And I don't suppose you could install LauncherPro one the phone hehe...
Thanks, and have fun!
Many of us would like to know if the bootloader on the new Xperia phones will be locked. The true USP of Android is it's infinite customizability. Why does SE lock down their bootloaders?
EDIT: Also, I've read about a lot of lag on the Xperia Neo, during homescreen transitions and such. Can you please confirm if this is true? And if yes, how much would you rate it on the annoyance-meter?
EDIT #2: A lot of questions for you! :-D Does SE have any update schedule in place? How long will it take for them to deliver a point release update to their devices once Google releases it?

I guess I can answer those question for you.
1. Bootloader - It will be locked as always. There's no point in trying to convince them, as other companies are now following SE in signing their bootloader and locking it. It is not encrypted anymore, so there's no argument on blaming just SE that locks their bootloader.
2. The neo's video that we saw was running on an older firmware. I have a more current firmware, and it is lagless. I have mentioned that there's a small spike when you have massive amount of widgets that requires information from the internet, and it's been the same on all handsets, not just SE phones. There should be a video of it running lagless soon. I'll be sure to update on that.
3. There's an update planned. Cannot say much since Google hasn't announced anything yet, but it's planned

I can answer 1 and 2 for you already, I suppose. The bootloader will be locked, definately. There is no reason for Sony Ericsson not to lock it, and my guess is many other companies will be locking their bootloaders too pretty soon. The lag will probably be gone. If you look at reviews of the retail units on YouTube (they're rare, but they're there) you can easily tell everything is extremely smooth, even the widget overview thing!
On the update schedule - will definately try to get details of that!
find out how much RAM there is on the phones (especially Neo ) !

thanks a lot man
Make sure to get the exact retail price in euros for the European market
Ask them about USB-OTG
Playstation Certified?
Please ask if it is Playstation Certified as well. It has the exact same processor and GPU of the Xperia play, so it'll be a little annoying if SE does not allow it to run the Playstation Pocket app.
If it will play the games, I am pretty much sold on this device, especially since the games will be optimized for the Adreno 205 GPU.
EDIT: If you can find a ballpark figure for the price in US dollars that would be swell, it doesn't matter if it's in Euros either.
the certification will probably involve physical controllers
I think if it was PS certified they would have already said so.

+1 to that. I agree that when it comes to the wholesome experience, nothing beats Sense. Android stock simply sucks on integration experience - dialer, home screen, calendar, synchronization, weather animation and so on.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I read a few unconfirmed statements (supposedly from Qualcomm) on the internet about SE employing newer optimised video drivers for the Adreno 205 chip in their new Xperia line.
This would make sense considering how they are pushing gaming with the Play, which uses the same hardware as the Arc. We all know that the Adreno 205 chip with the current drivers will come up short against most of the existing competition in 3D gaming performance, and that's not to mention the stuff coming out later this year. Better drivers won't make it a winner but it would likely create a very noticeable difference.
Again though, this is no more than a rumour. Confirmation of this would be great!
