Ever since I unlocked my 8525 with a code provided by a remote imei unlocker, no one can hear my voice when I place or recive calls. I've tried both a cingular sim, and t-mobile sim, neither has any affect, and they work perfectly in other phones. used a remote imei unlock because I thought that you couldn't downgrade from the 1.09 bootloader which I had, but I found out you could, so i downgraded it and I made it supercid, but it didn't seem to have any affect since the phone was already sim unlocked
I only want to do this to see if the sim unlock is the reason why my voice cannot be heard (the headset doesn't make a difference either), or if it is a hardware problem and then go about looking for a place that can repair it. Is it the microphone for calls the same as recording notes?, because I can voice record notes just fine.
I also seem to get "no service" alot even though before I unlocked it i got perfect coverage and I've tried three different radios and neither one made a difference.

Cingular 8525
Radio Version: 1.16.00.00
Rom Version: 1.35.255.2
Bootloader Version: 1.04
First of all, You did not have to pay to get the 8525 Unlocked. There are unlockers here for Free. Hmm..
Did you try going to this ROM for 8525 i.e "1.30.502.1"

I payed because I upgraded to the latest rom, with bootloader 1.09, and I thought it was impossible to downgrade it to be able to run the unlock program. I went on ebay, and gave some guy my imei number and he gave me an unlock code that worked. 2 days after this, i found out that it was possible to downgrade from the 1.09 bootloader with an kinda "illegal program" and I succesfully downgraded.
Before I try the lokiwiz tool, i want to know if it will not brick my 8525 since it was made for wizards. Will it work on a hermes? has anyone tried it?
a. relocking it will not fix your voice problem, has nothing to do with it
b. hard reset and see if it fixes it, it might be a software problem
c. if hard reset does not fix it, take it to the repair centre
d. awizard will not work on hermes

I did a hard reset, and it didn't make a difference, its not a software problem. Where would I find a repair center in the North Eastern part of the US, and is the microphone for the voice recorder and phone different?
Where exactly is the voice mic located on the 8525 (maybe I can open it up and see if it got disconnected), and if a headset violently came of the usb port could that have caused my problem?
Ok, I did some more experimentation. If I put my mouth directly on to the bottom of my 8525 and blew into it or spoke loudly, i could faintly be heard. Anyone have any suggestions? Like I said before recording in notes work perfectly, and also sound is present on videos that I record. I bought this on ebay in november and was working perfectly. It started acting up this month either after I sim unlocked it or, or after the headset got violently ripped out (both happened on the same day) Also there seems to be a "crack" in the center of the bottom metal part of the USB port. im not sure if thats supposed to be there because on the cable there seems to be a "crack" in the same exact place
i just found another problem, when i have no service and i attempt to turn off the radio from the comm manager, it just turns right back on. Has this happened to anyone else?
ok, ive come to the conclusion that the problem has nothing to do with the software, sim or the phone being locked. How do you change the title of the thread, i want to change to micropone problems
Ive looked at the pictures of the Hermes in the wiki, and i still don't see the microphone, what does it look like?

I will try to remember and post a picture of it tonight. (few hours).
EDIT: In the meantime on the wiki pictures find motherboard side 2. On right hand side is a black rubber part which covers the microphone. On the assembled device it has a hole near the soft reset hole. If I get a picture later it will be with rubber cover removed.
The above basic motherboard picture is also here:

thanks, earlier this morning, i dissasembled it, but stopped short because i could not remove the main board, i didn't know what was holding it and I didn't want to force it. Right now im using an old bluetooth headset that i had lying around. I am so confused about what the problem could be because the bluetooth headset works fine, but the wired one doesnt (I can still use them as headphones) and the mic, which works for other programs (well the built in notes program is the only one i tested) but not for calls
A side note (question) is it unusual for the device to not allow the phone module to turn off (through comm manager) when it has no service, and to not stay off when it has no service (keeps turning on after it turn it off when it says it has no service)? This requires a softreset to fix
I have just read through all the posts here.
There is only one microphone so if it works for notes then it's ok. It's just possible the ripping out of the headset has caused a crack in the board for the phone side of things but not damaged the mic. (i'm a little skeptical though).
At work so will reply in more detail later.
And lets hear from others who have a problem with the person being phoned not hearing what's being said.

Yea, has anyone else had microphone problems?
I got a reply from Pocket Pc Techs, I emailed them earlier asking if they could repair my pda, and they said that they "Unfortunately we do not yet offer any repairs for the Cingular 8525." Think I could fix it myself?

Cannot answer that. As the mic is working for the recording functions then there is not a microphone fault. Also the mic is soldered directly to the main board so connection / cabling problems are ruled out. There may be a hairline crack on the boaed at some point but you'll be hard pushed to find anything without basic test equipment.
The Hermes is not the easiest to test when the back casing is removed as you need a way to keep the battery connected, something the case does in normal use.
You could go for the take it apart check the multi connectors (there's two) by unpluging reinserting and re-assembling - this involves no testing no "real" changes but can in a rather unscientific way sometimes sort basic problems related to a poor contact or connection.
Before doing this I would do at least a couple of full hard resets, and make a test call. If I had a warranty I would return the device.
If you fancy opening it up again to remove and reinsert the main board then look here:

I did three hard resets and there wasnt any difference, i have already opened it voiding the warranty, and what are the multi connectors that you are talking about?
Hi Guys!
My TyTn is acting strangely. In use, the display is first pixelating, getting lines (noise pixels as well), and then fading to completely white. When so it doesn't responde to anything anymore. So a soft reset is needed.....
Also the ringtone when called, is 'out of tune', like a old record player when you push your finger on the record.. LOL
Before I send it back to have it fixed by HTC, do you guys have any idea whats wrong, and maybe even a tip to help me fix this myself?
Tried numerous soft resets, hard reset, and a reinstall of the original WM6 rom (in Dutch).
Did not install any new programs lately, or did change anything on the unit...
Don't want to miss my TyTn... so hate to send it away... as many of you I am hooked badly to my beloved digital companion
Greetzz Antal
It acts like hardware incompatible.
How about flashing with WM6 English version.
I don't think it is software problem.
I agree, not likely to be software. It did not get dropped or take a knock did it?
The two issues of pixelation/white screen may, if you are lucky, just be a connector thats loose. The sound I think is unrelated but again sounds like a poor connection at the white rear speaker connector block - not uncommon.
Both of the above could be caused by a sharp knock. There have also been cases of poor battery connections causing problems.
If you have a warranty use it. If not you can follow the dismantling guides or service manual to dismantle - check connections and re-assemble. Be prepared though, that sending it in might still be required!!
Mike
Will send it in
Hi Guys, Thanks fr your replies.
I will take the unit back to the store today.
I am not aware that I bumped it, or neither it has dropped. May be a connection that was allready quite loose to begin with. Lets see what HTC and the store will tell me
Strange thing is, that without my sim in it, and not using it, it stays normal... Have put it aside, and used a very old phone instead, and it is still normal..

Mmmm... that's important information and changes things a bit. Could be a sim card contact or something about the sim. Anyway it tends to suggest that other thoughts about hardware issues may not be correct!
Hope you find the answer at the store.

My Hermes doesn't do any sound until I connect headphones.
Is there any way to find out where's the problem?

Hi
There are lots of threads dealing with thisproblem.
The first thing to do is ruleout a software fault. Do a hard reset. (use a full backup program like SPB backup first if you want to avoid losing all your installations and settings).
If the problem remains then you may have "contact" problems with the front earpiece speaker. (Not sure if you are getting sound from the rear loudspeaker?). Anyway here's just a couple of existing threads that describe the fixable problems with both speakers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2001027&postcount=5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=288728
One other less likely but possible problem might lie with the USB port. (However I feel it's more likely a speaker issue).
Mike

I'm afraid of breaking the VOID stick.
But it's HW problem with the front speaker.

Well yes, if you have a warranty that you can use then do not break that sticker! It crumbles into bits very easily and they'd know you'd been inside even if you can get it off in one piece.

Ok ... now i connected Herm to USB and sound works. o__O so what's wrong with it? ((
i know I'm maybe acting little dumb

Well if you look at the last line in my first post above, you'll see that a fault could lie with the USB port. This is because the USB port is linked to a switching circuit to divert sound from internal speaker to a headset. If that is damaged then sound may not be reconnected when the headset or any USB plug is removed.
So is it now working or does it only work with a USB cable plugged in?
Mike
I unplugged, it worked. Then I did softreset and now it doesn't work even if I connect it to USB.

OK two things to try.
Visually inspect the inside of the USB housing. It's very small but is there any sign of the fine wire contacts being bent or crossed over? The best you can do to solve this is to use a pin and straighten any that are out of line.
If that looks fine then I think we just need to rule out a software issue. Unfortunately that means a hard reset. Hopefully you have full backup software, if not you will lose anything you have installed and settings you have made.
After a hard reset you ust try the sound BEFORE restoring any backup you have made.
There is a small chance that repeatedly inserting and removing a USB plug will sort the problem - but it's by no means certain. It's perhaps something to try first. Also try wiggling it a little. If it's a slightly bent contact it may straighten it. If it's a broken board contact it will not sort it (long term at any rate)
Mike
I have done hardreset, but it did not help. Wiggling and reconnection too.
Housing looks fine, but i'll check it out in the morning.
So maybe it's really a mainboard issue? (
I woke up and I got an idea. Is it possible to make app, that would DISABLE headphones and point all audio to speakers?
hello, i seem to have the same issue.. i have tried all thwe things above... not working.. i can only assume the phone is broken inside!
although sometimes it comes on.. randomly.. i can only think that there is a broken connection to the built in speakers.
i'll keep following

Have you dismantled and checked those connectors or have you just done the hard reset etc?
The most common problems are the reare speaker push on connector has slipped off, or if it's the front speaker the contacts need tweaking out a little.
Mike
Sorry if you have read this already, I think I posted in the wrong section.:
Hi I have a very strange issue. My Universal only works properly when the screens casing is open. If it is closed... soon after my touchscreen stops working and my backlight may or may not function. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I love this site!
Have you tried doing a hard reset?
interesting
I have done a hard reset, but it doesn't really fix the problem. Does this sound more like a software issue, as you are the second person to ask me this. If I can't figure it out, I guess I will just sell it for parts. Ho-humm!
Sounds more like a hardware issue to me. I would open up the Uni and check the connections of the screen cable are secure. Step by step instructions can be found in the manual - see Wiki.
Hello!
Yesterday while travelling, I listened to music for 3-4 hours using bluetooth earphones. After i reached home, I suddenly heard a crackling sound from the top speaker, so I thought of rebooting the phone to see if it would fix the issue. On rebooting, the audio of my phone has completely died. I can hear no audio through wired headphones, bluetooth earphones, or through the stereo speakers of the phone.
Also, when I try to make calls, the Phone app hangs for 4-5 seconds and then dials the number, only to have no audio though the earpiece, with the mic also not working. I tried rebooting multiple times, even did a hard reset, still with no luck.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? I have some experience opening up the phone, so I'll be willing to fix it myself if anyone knows the solution.
Yes, I have exactly the same symptoms, although how I got there is different. See in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/nexus-6p-replacing-battery-audio-t3754176.
I'm still no closer to a solution and still don't know whether it's a hardware or software problem. Since my audio problem began coincidentally to when my phone was opened for repair (battery replacement), that tends to make me think hardware damage or failure. Since you have exactly the same issue without any apparent hardware trauma, that tends to make me think software.

Thanks for your reply. I tried to fix the pins on the daughterboard after reading your conversation with another member. The pins seemed fine when I took out the daughterboard, still I straightened 'em a bit. The problem still persists though, no audio whatsoever.
Is there anything else you might suggest?

I wish that I could offer you a solution. When my new (to me) Nexus 6P arrives tomorrow, I'll be free to tear into my existing "audio-free" 6P. I'll examine the daughterboard and probably replace it. The daughterboards are <$15 everywhere I've looked. It's just a guess, but I bet that I could have a bad daughterboard, but not be able to determine that's bad by (my) visual inspection. It could look good (to me), but be bad. Since my audio was lost when my phone was opened to replace a battery, it seems plausible that the daughterboard was damaged in the process. Since the primary mic (maybe all the mics, I don't know) is on the daughterboard, it would certainly explain why the system isn't getting any audio input. Anyway, I feel like the small cost of the board is worth it just to see if that actually fixes the problem.
If that resolves my issue -- or I find anything that does -- I'll certainly let you know. I've bought a new (to me) phone, but I'm not ready to give up the ghost on this one just yet.

Good luck fixing your 6P. I hope you get your audio back, and if you do, please report here so we would know a possible solution. If the daughterboard is damaged, shouldn't charging also be disabled since the type-c port is on the daughterboard? Maybe the board is partially damaged. Let's see what results you get after replacing it. I totally gave up on this phone and went back to my Nexus 5. 6P was a good phone, but had too many issues. Now it's just a paper-weight though.
Once again all the best for your DIY fixing.
As written here:
Hi guys, I think I solved the problem.
After a factory reset, my phone didn't play any sound from the speakers (neither the top nor the bottom), couldn't record anything from the mic, couldn't record any type of video with the stock Google camera ("Can't connect to the camera" or 0:00 seconds long videos) and YouTube acted weird sometimes.
I spent to days looking for a solution, and I understood that the problem was in the headphone jack. It remains triggered as if there were headphones inserted, someone resolved inserting and removing a real device in the headphone jack 3 or 4 times, but it was not my case.
I took the phone apart, physically disconnected the headphone jack and then rebooted the device. All the problems are gone! The sounds came back perfectly from both speakers, the camera can now record video and the mic is working. After this test I turned off the phone, reconnected the headphone jack, rebooted and still no problems. The headphone jack works fine too, and YouTube has no problems reproducing videos.
I even tried two factory reset and everything is still working fine! I hope to be helpful to someone, this procedure has solved my problem!
