I'm not going to. Not yet anyway, but I was wondering about the viability. It should be possible to run WM7, Symbian or Android on the Xperia X1 shouldn't it?

First wait and see if it will get 6.5!!!
So far all that's know about WM7 is that it's planned for sometime next year. Whether it will be compatible with the current hardware, or whether MS continues WM after being crushed to pieces from the combined forces of Android, Symbian, MacOS/iPhone, BlackBerry, webOS, ALP, ... - nobody knows...
(Unless maybe Nostradamus, but I don't know that either... )
it will work..we just need to work on it
btw 6.5 is up in rom section
cheers
6.5 is beta not the actual one, have to wait and see at MWC09
so when WM6.5 is released...we ll be able to have it on our current Xperia x1 or do we need to buy a new piece?
The more interesting question is whether there'll be an official and legal update.
If there's an update for a technically similar device, like the Touch HD or maybe even Diamond2, there'll very likely be a cooked ROM for the X1.
But first of all, Microsoft has to release 6.5...
It will still take some time for MS to release WM7. My guess is - not before summer 2010. And devices shipping WM7 maybe christmas 2010.
Until then, WM 6.5 will have to do. However, if the performance will not increase, I will stick with WM 6.1. The speed of all WM 6.5 betas is imo just awfully slow and I have my doubts that this will change with the final version. Even the work-in-progress models with an obviously newer OS version - Touch Pro 2 and Diamond 2 seen on YouTube - are not as fast as current WM 6.1 phones.
So lets wait and see. My guess is, that I will switch to another phone when WM 7 is available.
I think I will change another phone when WM 7 is available....
Maybe thant time, there will be a phone w/ 2GHz cpu
The thing is that X1 is not capable for some features designed for WM7.
The most noticably: the gestures - X1 does not have any accelerometers.
My best bet is to get another phone at then

Gestures will supposedly work by way of built-in camera. Accelerometers are not required. At least, this is what the WM7 info leak stated.
Just wondering if anyone tried or have an idea about Android OS running on HTC HD2?
Nope, and from what I know it can't be done without some serious work (and by serious work, I mean by the time it's actual stable the HD2 will be an old piece of crap).
Look around the forums for running Android on other WinMo devices via Haret.exe. I doubt there are builds uild for anfor the HD, so if possible find a build for another WVGA phone. Non of the hardware will work, but it's just for testing really.
People have made it work on the HD, so why not also on HD2.
I'm sure it's not a walk in the park, but i'm sure it's possible.
Anyone working on it already?!..
Might even be easier to port over the Android 2.1 when the DESIRE is released. Similar hardware if I understand correctly.... would be awesome to try out..
I want that phone so freaking bad, but I just don't think I can do WM... someone please figure it out.
Running Android applications on HD2
I have no issues with Windows Mobile. However I do wish I could run some of the many Android programs on my Windows Mobile HD2. Any way it could be done?
They've just now been able to get a stable build running on the Touch Pro. And even then it sucks down the battery life like a beast feeding on a herd of sheep. Sure it will probably happen but don't expect stability for awhile and don't ever expect a decent battery life.
Hi i already posted this on Android Community forum...but i think this must be more appropriate place...so does anybody has any info if it is possible to install the Android OS to a smartphone other than the one that comes with one?
Is it possible to lets say install the Android OS (Linux) to samsung hd i8910, that has symbian OS? Somehow change the firmware to the one with Android? What obstacles exist that this has not been done yet?

one thing would be drivers.
is it possible to install Android OS on Acer E200 which comes with Windows Mobile 6.5? what are the tools to build the custom Rom?
Ok the drivers...that is major..is anyone doing something similar like writing the new drivers?
Takes a lot of time, knowledge and work to build drivers from scratch to different processors.Reasearch teams take months....
Even for qualcomm processors, because OS´s use it in a somewhat diferent way and is coded in the processor itself...thats what i understood for what i read...might be totally wrong i dont understand nothing about that.
Emulation is possible but it wont be the same...laggy,clutered,buggy,etc.

I would highly doubt it, but it's always possible.

Here on XDA, Android has successfully been ported to the HTC Vogue (HTC Touch). Progress is going along rapidly on the Raphael, Diamond, and Blackstone. I don't know about any ports to Symbian phones though, XDA is oriented more towards WinMo.
There might be ports going on to Symbian phones, but there probably won't be much information on any Symbian devices here.
But yes, it is possible to port Android to another smartphone, it just requires a LOT of elbow work.
EDIT: Found this forum, it might interest you. People talking about Android on the i8910 http://forums.samsungi8910omnia.com...-cooked-roms/6239-android-1-6-i8910hd-19.html
Well its always nice to hear, that there is somebody doing something..like you guys here on xda. In the case of i8910 it is the matter of the pure hardware..and type of phone..that is very high end..and cannot be compared with phones of HTC type...not yet..i guess the speed, the capacitive touch screen..processor..camera..only bad thing is sucky symbian..
After we saw Ubuntu and Android on the Leo, When are we going to see Maemo or Meegoo on it?

bump!!! on this, i would like to see maemo too, and pissed off the n900 user
i think it's not so hard as we have ubuntu running very well
I agree with you
this thread should be moved onto the android/linux on hd2 thread.
And by the way, I totally side with you on this. I "hate" android. Why? It's by google, and it's not really linux. On the other side I'd love to have meego on my hd2, but think about it, not even nokia has released a single device with meego on it, and at this rate if they don't hurry when they will do that, noone will care about it anymore.
Even if I favour meego over android, like, a lot, I realistically cannot see how those who spent their blood in porting android to the hd2, and those others who develop for that platform, will invest their time and energy in another linux based mobile OS... if that OS keeps delaying itself.
can we upgrade this phone omnia 2 i8000 to windows phone 7.1 or 7.5 or any 7. version ?
Sorry, but there is no way to do that. WP7 is based a bit different than WM6.x. So, if you like WP7 then by a phone with that OS or you can get HD2 and have WM6.x, WP7 and Android on the same phone, like me

I love this. If I have understood correctly, you are saying that you can run WM6.x. WP7 and Android on the same phone? Which one? HD2?? or also QTEK 9100
SE Xperia X1
SE Xperia X2
HTC Touch Pro
HTC Touch Pro 2
HTC 7 Pro
HTC HD2
I have an Qtek 9100 and would love to play on it
tx foe letting us know!!
You can run several OSs on HD2, not the QTek.
HD2 is the best phone I ever had, so if you like to experiment with ROMs and OSs than buy HD2 and you will be pleased with it. Unless, you need keyboard....
What´s the difference bwn the omnia2 and the hd2 that enables the latter to run w7 but not the former?
And do you have a multiboot installed or you have to re-flash the mobile to run a different OS?
I´d like to buy the same phone as I´m used to the old winme and i´m not very happy with android either. Just to have more options.
