Receiving from my ntl account works fine, but when I try to send something it complains about a possible problem with coverage and/or account settings...and yet everything looks the same as it does in Outlook where, incidentally, it works fine.
Is it possible to import an account with its settings from where I have it in Outlook? Just in case I have missed something after all...

Are you on Wifi or GPRS/UTMS?
If you are using your phone network you might need to use their outgoing server. If you can give a little bit more info, I might be able to help.
This is over HSDPA on my contract WAP. I know of no outgoing server info for Vodafone but I could be wrong...
Just as an aside, do you know why my X1 tries to connect to 'Business Email' whenever I turn it on?
Thanks
*Update* - Email sent fine over the Activesync connection...hmmm. Any ideas?
Uk Vodafone should have send.vodafone.net as the outgoing SMTP address.
Not sure why Business Email should be connecting, unless you are using their own Push Email solution.
Awesome, you sir are a genius. Thank you!

I don't have their email but continually get this screen trying to connect me to Business Email - I have to cancel it two or three times to get it to GO AWAY. It is one the many reasons I think we are going to part company.

The Business Email APN is another one of these locked settings. In the reg you should be able to unlock it, and then remove it via Connections.
If you aren't using it, then you should have no worries.

What is the 'reg' - it is SO annoying. It's going back later this week - I've had enough!

I did setup outlook email in tytn. I can recieve emails fine. Why its impossible to send? I have tried in every possible way. Error appears, your incoming mail server not correct, check and try again. Incoming and outgoing server both are correct. What can be reason? Tytn is cool but i hate it when it cant just send an email. Extremely irritating.
Help will be appreciated.

Sorry but you do not give enough info to work with. You say incoming mail server is correct but it helps us to know what you have it set to and who provider is. For example I notice that lots of internet sites have an incorrect port settings for O2 UK MMS. So when you say your setting is correct; there might be someone here who says it will work if you change it to ?????. Did you set this up manually or was it done by the wizard?
Cheers
Mike
PS. Edited your thread title - you must give brief description of problem/issue. "EMAIL" does not encourage people to help!
You might not be allowed to send email because you are not actually on your email provider's network. I was not able to send Charter.net email via my Cingular device, until I changed the outgoing server to match Cingular's outgoing SMTP server.
I hope this gives you another direction in which to investigate a solution.
my location is norway. i am using network solutions as my email provider. in coming mail server is mail.waqar.com and out going mail server is smtp.networksolutions.com everything seems fine. then why its not working?

Hi
I found the following comment on the following website:
Note: Some ISPs will not allow you to use Network Solutions’ outbound mail servers. If that is the case, type in the name of your ISPs outgoing e-mail server (ex. smtp.myisp.com). You may also try and configure Network Solutions’ Outbound Mail server to connect to Port 2525 instead of the default Port 25.
http://www.emailuserguide.com/07-howto-setup-email-software.htm
Might relate to your problem??
Mike
i had the same problem. all i had to do (after strugling for a week) was check the box next to "outgoing mail requires... (missing text)" in outlook. Hope this helps!
it was smtp.waqar.com instead smtp.networksolutions.com
thanks guys
I'm just wondering why my hotmail email account uses my data connection even though I have an active wifi connection. My gmail and yahoo connects to the wifi no problem but when I do 'send/receive' with my hotmail, it always uses the data connection. Anything to change this setting? Thanks.
We are together in this I guess
Good question! I was wondering why it happens too... I went through the registry, I made a hard reset (Was thinking the problem due the fact I imported mails using a backup problem)... nothing... there is no way to solve it! I think there is someproblem in messenger by itself and the solution might be installing another version?... Any idea anyone
I have this problem too, i go into communications, then disable cellular radio, and activate WIFI, then my hotmail updates over wifi, Strange, some kind of fix for this would be good.
Does anyone know if there is a fix?
In the email account settings try changing connection to "The Internet" instead of the default one (mine said "T-Mobile Internet").
This way email will go via WIFI if available, otherwise via 3G/GPRS... as it should
The problem here, and why it's set to default to HSDPA for email, is the outgoing SMTP server. Orange in particular block the use of any SMTP server other than their own, but of course their smtp won't work when you're connected via wifi. Thus on mine I set it to use Orange Internet for everything (idiotically it wasn't defaulting to that, so no outgoing email when on wifi).
Ideally this really needs different smtp settings when you're on wifi - anyone know a way?

I'm no expert, so put me right if I'm being dumb here:
I'm with Orange (UK) and use my own email account (incoming POP3 and sending via SMTP).
I seem to be able to both send and receive mail quite happily via HSDPA even though it's not Orange email. Am I missing something ?
- Steve
Hrrrm, maybe just a yahoo email thing then. I can't use their smtp on orange HSDPA.

If it's of interest, the email through my own server requires the mail client to log in for both sending and receiving, and the word SMTP doesn't appear in the server name. Perhaps this helps Orange to "miss" it ?

I have the same problem, but a lot worse. My HD doesn't use my wifi for anything, unless I deactivate my data connection. It's really annoying, especially since I previously had a Diamond, and that worked perfectly!
Any tips would be VERY much appreciated!

Same here. I thought it was just opera that wouldn't use wifi, but its everything. All my apps seem to use my data connection rather than wifi.
Sorry to dig up an old thread, and I don't know if the solution is elsewhere (I've been searching for hours), but I think I've sorted hotmail to connect using wifi here:
http://www.dugaldwilson.com/dugald/archive/2009/02/17/54.aspx
Another solution would be to use 'No data' app and toogle off 'internet' & 'wap' so data connection is not available so phone can only use wifi. If at some point you want to re-use data connection, just toggle them on again.
Wish I'd never installed the official SIM update from HTC. Have an unbranded HD2 on TM, and after Radio ROM update to 2.06.51.07, I couldn't send emails from my Ntl account on the phone. The other two (Hotmail and another pop3) work fine.
After spending hours searching the forum, and deleting the account and recreating it, I gave up and rang TM. They told me to change the outgoing server to smtp.t-email.co.uk
This is usually smtp.ntlworld.com on my pc, but after doing that it started working....until today. Sent numerous emails and they all ended up in Sent Items folder, but the recipients never received them, although I am receiving emails from eBay etc. Rang TM again and they told me take battery out and reboot, did it and I then successfully sent an email to the lady on the phone. She replied and I received that, as expected.
The problem now lies with the fact I can send outbound emails from the NTL account, but if I try sending ones to myself, ie NTL to NTL, or NTL to Hotmail, they all seem to send, but never receive.
It seems that sending anything from this NTL account to any other account listed on my phone won't work. Hope that makes sense.
BTW, I have stock 1.48 rom, with very few reg tweaks, such as touch x tskmanager, wmlonglife app.
Hope someone can help.
Cheers
Most ISP's only allow outgoing mail if you are connected directly to their network, otherwise it is classed as relaying email, and they don't allow it as it is considered insecure. (I.e if you are connected to your ntl broadband via wifi, the send should work, if you are connected to , say, o2 mobile, or a wifi hotspot, it won't)
On my n95 I had my ntl account configured to retreive from pop.ntlworld.com, but send via my o2 account (mail.smtp.o2.co.uk), with the from email showing my ntlworld address, so teh receiver never sees the o2 part, (unless they look in the headers of teh message)
thanks for the quick reply. However, it seems that I can send an email to anybody from the ntl account, but not to any of the other accounts that I have setup on my phone.
Seems like something is blocking me sending emails to my own phone, but only via the ntl account. If I send one from hotmail to hotmail, it works fine. Which is a shame as I use the ntl account as default
Has anybody else updated the radio rom and had problems like this?
Hi, just spent 30 minutes playing with ntl account on the hd2 (i didn't have this account set up yet.)
Successfully sends and receives (including sending to myself at the same address) when connected over wifi (provided by NTL)
but FAILS to send over 3g or my neighbours tiscali wifi. (As predicted, outgoing only works from an ntl source to prevent spammers using their servers as a relay) however receiving works over all three connection.
The settings I have are
pop3.ntlworld.com (could also put pop.ntlworld.com too, I think, but im fairly sure it doesn't matter)
smtp.ntlworld.com
Ticked Outgoing requires authentication
Ticked Use same name and password
Works a treat, hope you get yours fixed.

Cheers for that. Tried the wifi option and seems to work as yours does, but not with 3g. Suppose, as long as we can send emails to anyone but ourselves that will have to suffice, unless someone comes up with a fix. Seems more an Ntl thing than the phone?!
Yea, the 'no relaying' was brought in to fight spam. You used to be able to connect to any smtp server from anywhere, and use it to send email. (Simplified, but u get the idea) so most ISP's now only allow outgoing mail from within their own network.
As for workarounds, do you have an email account with your mobile provider? Example, I have one with o2, so on the outgoing page I change the smtp.ntlworld.com to smtp.o2.co.uk and UNTICK use the same name and password, and instead insert my o2 account details and i can then send over the 3g network. As an added bonus, the o2 servers WILL let me send without being connected to their network, so this method will still send over wifi too, and so long as you set the 'email address' that is displayed to yourname @ntlworld.com no one will ever know any difference, they will still see 'From:[email protected]' and when they reply it will go to [email protected] ntlworld.com
Hope this helps
no outgoing email!!
Hi all
Been reading your thread with interest. I have email with talktalk. I can receive my email on my HD2 no probs, but when i send via HD2 (talktalk) to myself and other non-talktalk addresses email will not send through - gets stuck on 'looking for changes' stage. My email settings on HD2 are identical to those on my PC.
Also how have you guys configured email to send via wifi? im struggling with this as well!!!
PLease help SOS
Hi All,
Anyone know the settings for sending email from my HD2. I have got incoming and outgoing set as my sky account, it receives fine but will not send. I seem to remember when I was on Orange outgoing had to be set to their address.
My local Vodaphone shop are about as much use as a chocolate teapot!
Thanks in advance......
THere is a chance that sky wont let you send unless you are connected to their network (i.e wifi)
This is to prevent people that are not sky customers using their email servers. (Same for most home broadband providers)
Firstly try ticking the 'outgoing server requires authentication' and tick same username and password. (I forget the actual wording, and i'm currently flashing a new rom so cant check it)
However, i suspect this wont work because it doesnt on my virginmedia email account, unless i'm using wifi on my virginmedia broadband at the time.
I get around this by using virginmedia for incoming., and my o2 email account for outgoing, because the o2 network DOES allow me to send from any network, so it works when on wifi or mobile.
So long as you put your sky email address in the 'your email' box the receiver will never know, and when they click reply their response will still arrive in your sky inbox.

Hi, glad you got your problem sorted. I use Sky and it took me a while to figure it out ; )
Just in case you have more problems, my emails got in a complete mess using POP3. I've no idea why, but at the time I was using Outlook on my desktop as well as accessing via my Touch Pro. Just in case you encounter the same problems, I found changing over to IMAP on both my desktop and phone solved the problem : )
So I have a bell atrix and I have tried to put my Shaw email on it and i'm 100% sure all the settings are correct yet I can not send emails. I can receive them fine. But when I go to send it says authentication error sending.
Settings are as followed:
Incoming is: pop.shaw.ca and the corresponding port.
Outgoing is: mail.1xbell.ca and the corresponding port with neither box checked. I even tried enabling the mobile webmail from Shaw and used their guide to install on android devices. Didn't work.
If anyone has a Shaw email account that can send emails properly from their atrix, PLEASE post their outgoing server settings.
I spent an hour at bell with a lady who was on the phone with tech support and they couldn't fix it.
Bumping I still haven't resolved this

Please help guys. I literally have tried everything. I googled the message and I see tons of other past issues on other moto phones with no solution.
This is not the best solution but if ALL else fails, you can have Gmail check your shaw account and then access email via Gmail on the phone...
Which software are you using to try to access mail?

I really don't want another email to deal with.
This is crap. No one has been able to find a solution. The woman at bell handed me my phone after like an hour on the phone and said, "I dunno." And went and helped another customer.
670$ and this is the help i get...
I noticed that I don't get the authentication error sending when I check use secure connection. But it still says Shaw email not sent.
How informative...
I have this same problem on Bell with a SGS i9000m and Moto Atrix with mail.1xbell.ca. It says "unable to connect to server" on 3G and wifi.
try:
smtphm.sympatico.ca
port 587
ssl: no
auth: no
I tried that with a username and pw and without a username and pw.
Didn't work
Found an interesting article related to your issue, I have no clue it it will help but what do you have to lose.
http://ngmicro.wordpress.com/2009/07/10/setup-shaw-email-on-the-iphone/
Shaw blocks sending of mail while on a non shaw connection, whether it's 3G mobile data or otherwise. If you use Bell as an outgoing mail server, you are still attempting to send the mail from a non shaw connection (Bell's servers...).
There are several work arounds by using GMail to sync your shawmail address, but when you alter the "reply" or "send from" fields, the recipient will see "from: [email protected] ON BEHALF OF [email protected]"

Ya that wasn't very helpful because I need to know why my ANDROID phone isn't working on my BELL plan.
Interesting, I wouldn't have thought email settings would be device specific but I don't use Shaw or have an Atrix for that matter. I only found the article while searching for something else.
My sympathies go out to you and I hope you find a resolution to your conflict.

Shaw actually says very publicly that they block the SENDING of email, not receiving. Unfortunately they have very recently updated their support site so most of the articles about mobile email settings are MIA. When they are back up, I will gladly show you the document. I too was able to set up my shawmail on my HTC Hero (Had it for 1 year 3 months, replaced with the Atrix), but was never able to SEND email unless on a WIFI connection.
Have you tried Shaw's new "Remote SMTP" service?

Thanks I'll take a look! I tried everything with the new settings. Didn't work still. Same error. I tried checking use a secure connection and it says, "Shaw Email Not Sent"
This is driving me crazy. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with 2.2.
To anyone using a Shaw Email on the Atrix, please post your Outgoing Server Settings. I've enabled Shaw Webmail mobile already.
Atrix problem
I just called Bell as I switched yesterday and same thing, I have had a Milestone, a Bell i9000M and both worked so I called Bell it is a known issue and they are working with Motorola, for a fix. I have tried everything in this post nothing works, I might download K9 the mail app and see if that works for now.
