PLEASE HELP!!! T-Mobile Wing WiFi Problem - Wing, P4350 General

I have a t-mobile wing. After flashing open touch v3.0 biggy (which I love, thank you ttran) to my device, my wifi will not turn on. I try to select wifi in comm manager and it remains off.
I have searched multiple forums relating to this problem. I have even called t-mobile technical support. Nobody seems to have an answer.
If anyone knows how to solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate some help...

im not sure which comm manager you have but here is what you do for 10 button one
"6. HTC 10-Button Comm Manager.cab – HTC 10 Button Comm Manager
- Step 1: Copy to the phone and run it.
- Step 2: (Fixing WLAN button malfunction, somehow it doesn’t work by default on Wing): **Thanks for beowulf6’s post for this fix.
Change "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \HTC \CommManager \WLAN= "Windows WLanMgr.exe " "DeviceName" = "{98C5250D-C29A-4985-AE5F-AFE5367E5006} TNETW12345"
the end of this long String is the WLAN-Adaptername of the Device.
just change in this Example "TNETW12345" into "TNETWLN1"
-Step 3: (Fixing Wi-Fi setting launch issue) **Thanks for phatman81’s post for this fix.
Change "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\CommManager\WLAN\ Default:"
\Windows\WlanMgr.exe --> \Windows\ctlpnl.exe"

Thank you so much for your quick response. I went to edit the registry, but all of my settings were already set to the specifications as described in your instructions. I am lost. My WIFI just won't turn on... I select it, it pauses for a moment, and then never turns on. Are there parameters that i should be setting for the chip itself??

I would either try reflashing, or flash to the original tmobile rom to make sure it's not a hardware problem.

same issue
yu,
i am facing the same problem with my WI-FI caused by wrong installition, i did restore my device to the factory setting but still i t pause for a moment then it wont work, i think this is a hardware failure and i dont think we can fix it, anyway please if anyone know how to fix this problem coz i feel my wing worth nothing without the WI-FI.
MD

Well... Thank you all for your help. I took my phone to a T-Mobile store today and they have concluded that my hardware is damaged and I have to replace my phone. So ,chances are, if you are having this exact issue, then you have damaged your hardware.

I'm having the same problem with my wifi, it'll come-up for 2 secs and then it'll go away as if the hardware is failing to initialize. I'm sure it's the same issue as the corrupt eeprom from re-flashing too much and no1 from this forum has posted any solution. Did you have to pay anything when you got your tmo-wing replaced?

i was having that issue before try goin into network adapters tab frome the network selection screen and set it to the internet and see if it lets u on

that didn't fix it, when I turn wlan on the very first time, it will do a clicking sound for mayb 10 secs, then if I look at SDIO WLAN on the network adapters IP address, it has gargbage where normally it should say "not connected".

I was having the same issue (at least I think anyway). i would go into the comm manager, and select wifi button, and it would highlight green for a sec then nothing. I went in to the registry settings, and changed the default as it said to, but the devicename was already right. i then tried the wifi again and nothing. So I went to start-settings-connections-wireless lan, and turned on the wifi that way. It worked, and now i can select the wifi on or off via the comm manager. Maybe it just needed a jumpstart...
Thank You!

hey, just soft reset ur phone, i had the same problem. i soft reseted (push the little button on the side of the wing) and it will work again!

Mmmm... First turn on WLAN - one way is use the button below the On/Off hard button on the side of the case. This opens a screen that shows your connections. One of them looks like an aerial with waves coming from it. It should not have a cross on it. If it has, tap it to turn on Wireless mode.
Move within 10metres of your WLan Router.
Your device in a short time should automatically detect the WLAN and give you a pop up message. You will be offered the chance to connect to it and to enter any codes/keys for your LAN.
If you still have problems there is another little app. that might help so let me know.

I assume of course you were wanting to use WLAN not GPRS.
If so you need to ensure GPRS is switched of, else it just keeps getting in before the WLAN has a chance to connect.
There is a recent thread called UMTS/GPRS and WLAN switching or something like that, that has a lot of discussion on how to do this. Presume Opera connected fine on WLAN.
From the sound of it though ravenclaw has not managed to get any connection on WLAN.

I'm puzzled by your WLAN problem. I assume you get no pop-up saying WLAN detected?? You could try downloading the hitchhiker application and see if that helps. http://www.kasuei.com/hitchhiker/ remember you also need the .Netframework as well http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...6b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55&displaylang=en
As for the clock, I'm sure I saw a post (and a solution) somewhere on this forum not so long ago about this skipping time zones thing. Perhaps somebody remembers it and where it is??
Mike
ill try! but one stupid question how i can shutdown this machina? not pressing 5sec power button (cause it will disalbe changes... but like normal way? )
how i can reset this damm thing?!? ... doing it hard way...
Er..I think maybe you need to take a few steps back, then sit down and read the manual?
The on / off button is top right side, just a press will put device into standby (suspend) a long press turns the device completely off.
The reset button is the small hole at the bottom just to the right of the IR lens - poke it with the stylus to soft reset. As for hard reset - havent a clue, never had to do it.
yeah time thing solved
and phone reseted

GPRS tries to connect when already connected to Wifi

Hi, i have a very strange and unpleasant problem with my Hermes.. At home I am using my wifi connection to receive mails etc. My Hermes connects to the wifi network normally, but when I want to use internet connection (IE, Outlook..) it will start GPRS. I have to turn wifi of and back on to be able to use it. It is pretty annoying as you can imagine. Now I am using latest Tytn WWE rom, but i have had same problems with T-mobile rom.
My old Wizard is connecting normally and has never done something stupid like this Do anyone have some clue what may cause this strange behaviour?
Have you confirmed that the home WiFi connection is configured as 'Connects to: The Internet'? In comm manager turn off the WiFI then go into settings/connections/Network Cards and you will be presented with all the networks used or previously found by your TyTn wireless card.
Select you named home wireless connection and you will be presented with the screen "Configure Wireless Network". Make sure that the entry against "Connects to:" i sset to The Internet - then press OK (top right), then dismiss the settings windows.
Try the connection again - it worked for me a while back. If already set at "connects to the Internet" then try deleting the settings and creating the entry again: press and hold on the connection (your home WiFi) then select "Remove Settings". Then turn on networked and set it up again remembering to select "connects to the Internet" when asked during the configuration of the WiFi connection. Of course you will again be prompted for a network key if you have a secure wireless router.
- if you all this then sorry but you didn't say. Hope it helps
I have already set it to connect to the internet few days ago. But i will try to remove those settings and do it again.. Hope it will solve the problem.
Thanks for your help. I'll report later..

Hi
I hear good things about Danielherrero's bandswitch app. This is a long thread and I think there are revisions along the way so best read through a sample of the pages:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286844&highlight=danielherrero
Whether it will solve your particular issue I don't know - but worth a look?

Hmm.. I am already using that band switcher. Really a great program but unfortunatelly it cannot solve this issue.
But.. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel I've deleted my network settings and than set it again. And now it seems to be working! Hmm.. cannot be quite sure if it isn't just lucky day, but I've tested it more than 10 times and it seems to be OK.
Anyway... thanks for your help
Hopefully it will continue to work.
PS Is "cancer man" still alive or have the ciggies killed him off?
Mike
Glad to hear it worked OK. I too found it was teh only way to get mine initially working - since deleting and recreating the link it has worked OK (3 mths plus)
Aaah.. I heard that cancer man is still alive. But.. trust no one Hope he will not follow the Marlboro Man..
And by the way.. After few hours it still seems to be working. Thanks guys!!
Out of a month of use it has happened to me only once. I just turned off wifi then turned it back on. I believe the tytn is not recognising that it has a valid Internet connection.

WiFi - Software or Hardware

I have been seeking help in the following thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=301497) on how get my WiFi Working on my T-Mobile MDA with little success. If you read the tread you will find the following:
Wifi Router:
WRT56G Linksys, set in b/g mode and WPA-PSK secured
Other Wifi Devices
Acer Laptop - connects no problem.
iPaq 6315 - (T-Mob) Connects no problem.
Both devices easily connect to other routers and networks without problems.
My MDA
SID unlocked
CID Recently Unlocked
Latest T-Mob ROM
RegKeys - dot11SupportedRateMask (1) and ... RateMaskG (8) are believed to be accurate and viewed through SKTools Registry Explorer.
BlueTooth and IR can communicate with Laptop and iPaq.
About the Wifi
When I go to COMM Manager and click the wifi button, it shows the windows loading icon in the middle of the screen... it rotates for about 20 seconds then disappears and goes back to the wifi off status display. If I go to Wifi settings it does not let me enter any information into the settings.
I have also tried the djvw_htc_wizard_optimizer.cab which was supposed to fix the RegKeys set in the T-Mob shipped Wizard Settings, but that did not work either.
So I am looking for a few answers and some direction.
Firstly - What software, ROM, cabs, etc can I try to make the wifi work (provide links if available).
Secondly - What other registry Keys might be affecting the functionality of the wifi?
Third - If nothing else works, what kind of tests or repairs can be done to fix the hardware responsible for the wifi?
I know it has wifi access. The mfg specs say so, the forums and other resources say so, but nothing I have done or found has fixed the problem...
thanks for the help.

If you have reinstalled the official TMobile ROM on your phone and you still have this issue, then you appear to have a hardware issue with your MDA (just as I indicated in my last post to you in the other thread). If its under warranty, then call T-Mobile and tell them the WiFi doesn't work. They will probably have you try things, and then send you a new replacement device and then you'll be good to go.
And yes, these devices do have WiFi (I use WiFi on my 8125 all the time) and I know it works on the MDA out of the box (a friend of mine has one that is completely stock and he uses WiFi on it). So this issue is definetly with your phone (either a bad rom flash (which I doubt, but its possible) or its hardware (most likely it appears now after discussions in the other thread)).
Good luck...
To get your device to connect to the router is one matter - do you use AES or TKIP? Stock WM5 doesn't do AES.
Now, if the WiFi light turns on, have you tried using WiFiFoFum? If it doesn't, you might want to have a look at the power management states in the registry. I followed a bit of your thread but never read it through so I'm not sure what you have tried.
Power Management Settings??? Elaborate on this please...
Also router is TKIP.
Wizard is second hand, I live in Belize and thus warranty is probably invalid. So unfortunately, that will not work.
What are the chances of a ROM flash not working for just the WIFI.
Thanks for the help...

can't turn on WLAN

Hello everybody,
first of all - thank you all: helmi, xplode, all pdaviet guys, and others - you're making magic with BA roms, really thank you.
Please help me, I have an annoying problem: most of the times I try, I can't turn on WLAN. Rarely, somehow I manage to turn it on, but it happens very rarely, and this is driving me crazy.
I don't know whether it is a rom problem, or something else.
I have tried almost all roms available, because i read explode somewhere said that his last rom solved this problem...but nothing.
Something curious: this is the third BA i own, and I saw this problem before, but somehow i could turn WLAN on (I'd press the WLAN icon in comm manager many times, etc.), but on this BA it's just almost impossible to turn WLAN on.
Any ideas, please?
You need to go to the COMM manager, then go to Settings (down the bottom) > WLAN settings.
Then press "Turn on WLAN". If it doesnt come on after that, go back to COMM Manager then press wireless button.
thank you for the advice, but I'm aware of that trick - It does not help.
I used it on other BA's, and it was working, however, on this one it does not (most of the times).
Namely, I would think the WLAN module is simply dead, but then, sometimes, (unfortunately quire rarely) I manage to turn it on with the above procedure - first in comm manager, then settings, "turn wlan on", then comm manager again...
I don't get it, is it the ROM, or just my BA?
i'm using BA_ROM_CE_OS_5.2.19716__Build_19716.1.1.0_PV_DVH__16MB_Ram_16MB_PP as it is the only one that supports the new Wifiv2 driver
Do the search for "dead wlan due to erased eeprom"
Flyboy:
tried, but nothing. reflashed ba with BA_ROM_CE_OS_5.2.19716__Build_19716.1.1.0_PV_DVH__ 16MB, (the version without ram - although I don't understand what's the difference), then cold boot with no yes,yes...), installed wlan v2, but nothing, can't turn wlan on. Thank you anyway...
wit:
hmm...interesting, I assume you meant the hermes subforum topic (Dead wlan due to erased eeprom? *SOLVED*), but it's quite hard to follow, as it is for hermes... Also, posting a question there would not be liked by drummer10630, I mean he's great, helped many people, but for our BA the procedure is not the same, so he couldn't help me...
Anyway thank you all who read this, especially for your much needed help, I appreciate it.
after flash try cold boot with no NO,yes... just format the storage!!!
flyboy, tried that too, but no success.
I think I'll have to give up, I'm depressed.
****.
Bump.
Anyone else had any success stories they can post? I am in the same boat as pooksee1802.
WiFi will turn on, detect the network, go through all the settings but never complete the connection. It will connect maybe once in 20 attempts. It isn't that it simply doesn't work or is definitely broken, its just that it very rarely completes the connection. When it does complete the connection it works fine until the next time you need to connect.
i have the same issue...tried everything...no can do
wifi goes up, find the access point, requesting network key, then it retry connecting till dead by itself
i found a weird thing : whatever I set it to using Open + WEP, after tap "connect", it goes back to WPA-PSK + TKIP thing...
really annoying

Fix WiFi WITHOUT cable?

Hi, im having some problems with my 8125. First, WiFi stopped working, dont know why, i cant open the settings for wifi, only for wlan, and when i try to connect via comm manager, it simply doesnt work.
THEN, the usb port broke, so i soldered it back, but apparently sth went wrong, now my device charges, but it wont sync. Im happy with my ROM and my Radio as it is, i mean i could change it but since my phone wont sync i cant, not big deal, i can manage files through the card or BT, but my problem now is that apparently the only way of fixing my WIFI issue is by flashing it, and that i cant do without sync..
any solution for this? tried also wifi apps (wifi monster), to see if they could get it to work, no luck.

in case you want to flash a new rom for your 8125 maybe you can check your wiki for wizards, i think you can flash any rom in bootloader mode where in you can disregard syncing with activesync.... better read more here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard
wish i gave you a little idea that its possible to flash even if there is no activesync connection (the least i know)
enjoy
thanks for the reply, but with sync i meant that the pc wont recognize the device, tried in 3 different computers, 2 vista 1 xp, none of them could recognize the device, 2 of them did in the past. i must have soldered it the wrong way, missed a pin or sth..
so thats the thing, any way to fix my problem without using the usb cable?
Try doing a hard reset, just make sure you back up all your contacts, ringtones, whatever before you do it.
hard reset did the trick.. or thats what i thought. i mean, i did it (lost evth btw), and it worked, first time i turned it on from comm manager, the icon didn change, but it did turn on, checked on settings>connections, and there it was "wifi", great i thought. then, after some hours, dont know, a soft reset, but without adding nor installing ANYTHING, it does not turn on from comm manager anymore, and the wifi settings yet again, GONE! WTF is wrong with this! i mean why the damn "wifi" icon suddenly disappears from the settings menu?
but (sometimes, not always) i am able to turn it on from thw wlan settings, sometimes it has the "wireless" tab, from where i can turn it on by opening some network menu and clicking turn on wifi, but that "wireless" tab does not always show neither.
ill try changing the comm manager and see what happens.. but isnt there some king of shortcut that i could use to acces the [insert nasty, nasty insult here] "wifi" settings???
seems to be working ok with this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299070&highlight=wifi+shortcut
very useful btw, but very heavy too, im looking for sth light that wont use that much storage.. some kind of shortcut or script..
think i found the problem, i mean, not the why, but the what, in registry, the wlan drivers key is missing, HKLM\Software\Drivers, inside there should be a folder "WLAN" with a/some key/s inside, but there isnt such thing in my phone..
