HTC Diamond shuts down if there is no network - any help? - Networking

Well, I thought I fixed it with a latest ROM update but alas...
the problem goes like this, when I'm out of cellular reception area the phone shuts down and the only way to turn it back up is to remove and put back the battery.
I suspect this is some sort of strange power saving setting gone wrong.
Any idea on what can I do about it? Registry settings or something?

Help, please, anyone?

weird bug with phone indicator not functioning properly

by the phone indicator I mean the reception status indicator. after I wake from sleep mode it would not show any reception status at all. I cannot go into phone settings after that, would tell me wait 15 seconds then try again but after 15 seconds, same thing.
I can use the phone however, calls would connect and incoming calls would connect.
a related bug that I noticed, I cannot disable flight mode properly either. after entering flight mode phone shuts off (normal) but when I wake it would not come back alive. phone indicator remains with an 'X' on it and I cannot force it to register on my network.
running on Rogers Wireless in Canada. although I doubt the network is causing this grief.
anyone else experience this? so far there's only 1 ROM version available that I'm aware of. so I don't think that'll have any effects on this.
suggestions would be appericiated.

btw forgot to mention I'm on an I-mate K-JAM.
all else set aside this is an excellent device. being my first pocket PC I know I will have a great experience playing with WM5.
I have tried manually setting all sleep options to 0 with PHM regedit. that includes BT and phone.
in case any fellow Canadians are wondering about the availability of K JAM in canada. the answer is NO. I had to order it from a US store, paid a fortune clearing it from the customs and waited 2 weeks for shipping. tough luck being a Canadian .
Yep, this happens on mine as well. Sometimes it goes so far as to say "SIM status unknown." I hope a ROM update can fix it.
I have had the same issue on occasion... Not sure if it 3rd party software doing it though... Don't want to hard reset just yet...
I could not exit flight mode one time. Soft reset fixed it.
somewhat of a fix. I just turn power off after 3 min thing off while on battery. manually lock keys and turn screen off everytime I finish using the unit. the battery definitely sucks a whole lot more but phone don't go to sleep anymore which fixes the whole not recovering reception issue. and flight mode seems to work better as well.

Same here with my Qtek 9100. And my 9100 continues to show the roaming icon even if I am under coverage of my home network (Vodafone Italy). I think that this one is a SIM related bug (I tried to use another SIM and everything was fine), waiting for the next ROM update.

No return from standby mode...

Hi all!
With the latest Dopod's ROM it was nice for the first month, but now I have strange behaviour.
Sometimes the device does not return from standby/suspend mode. It does nothing at all if I press the power button. The LEDs are blinking as usual and if I call my mobile from other phone, I got no answer signal, whi my Prophet does not ring at all, means that GSM part works. Any alarmas and notifications fails to appear, as well.
I noticed, that the prsence of any extra unclosed applications increases the chance to hang. So far, I have no idea how to workaround it...
Any ideas? Is someone have the same problem?
It happens to me with my JAMin with both the old and the new WWE rom. somebody exolain it with the backlight settings, but nobody really understand why it happen
Someone alse have this problem?
I also had this issue for a time. I performed a hard reset and it stopped happening, so I am going to assume that it probably had something to do with some of the software that I had installed on it. My money is on SPB PocketPlus. I've not installed it since the hard reset and it hasn't happened since.
Any extra ideas?
I have the same behaviour since the very first day i upgraded to the latest rom.
I find that it happens regularly if it does, meaning you soft reset the device to get access again and then sure enough one hour later again the same behaviour. I have been on travel the last weeks, where i did not have a chance to sync the device and I have not experienced this behaviour at that time.
Maybe it has something to do with the Sync Process.
I hope we can dig into this a little more because it is really annoying. Especially if you consider that the phone does not ring anymore so you never know if someone calls or not.
Cheers Ulf
Password?
Have you set a password on your phone? If so, then remove the password and see if it makes a difference.
Yes I use the Password Funtcion on the PDA part and also for the SIM card.
I will try to turn off the PDA password and see what happens.
I keep you posted.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Ulf

Hi All,
turning off the PIN function has solved the problem. The effect is reproducible.
Raised a next question though:How to protect from your wife sniffing into your private appointments without using the PIN?
Gruss Ulf
I have no used any passwords, but has the problem. I've noticed that it happens when the phone is charging. But not only that.
i had the same issue...i read before somewhere in the other forums...(maybe this forum but couldn't find it) to adjust the backlight and standby time to the same value..that fixed mine and hope will work on yours.

Thanks great, so far it helps. If I got the bug agait - I will post. BTW, on the Dopopd's 2.15 it is the only reason for softreset, all the rest works fine!
I have the same problem with prophet touch IX and VIII.
Sometimes, after the device was set to standby (or the display was disabled after some minutes), I can't enable it by pressing the powerbutton.
It seems to have contact to the GSM net (you can call the phone, but it won't ring).
ActiveSync also recognizes the phone, but won't connect.
Maybe this happens less often with battery ~70-100%, but I'm not sure.
The problem occured some weeks after installing Touch IX, and didn't disappear after changing to Touch VIII.
With pdaviet 6, there wasn't anything like this (only the known bootscreen-freeze-problem).
Any ideas?
I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.

Power/Backlight settings not "sticking"?

I have an 02 XDA Exec, and have just finished installing all my apps and configuring them (took a long time!). Has anyone had any problems with the power (I'm checking to NOT power off while on battery) and the backlight settings not sticking? I'm finding that while the device is on, at some point, the settings are reverting back. Also on soft resets? Anyone heard of this?
For those curious, I'm leaving the power on because, for some reason, if I power off then power on, the unit freezes. I don't know if that's due to a bug in 02's WM5 image, or an app I'm running. So that I don't have to rebuild AGAIN, I'm electing to keep the power on so it doesn't freeze.
Any suggestions on both issues? Any seen both of these problems?
Thanks!
Marc
It might be a conflict with a program you installed. Are you using Phone Alarm? Because if you do, there is also an option there regarding Power OFF.
Christian,
Thou hast saved my sanity! That was it, exactly. Changed my backlight and power settings within phonealarm and, so far, I'm good. Thanks VERY much! (I was ready to ship this puppy back!)
Any idea on what app could be causing the freeze? (I have two batteries so it's not a huge issue if I leave it on all day).
Thanks again!
i was having these problems
but they seem to have gone for now :S

Device keeps turning on - help please!

I tried searching for the reason/solution but could not find anything.
Basically my device keeps truning on. I read somewhere that it's due to a fault in the radio rom. Does anyone have any knowledge/solution for this?
Thanks
It seems very strange to me, which programs are installed in your phone?
If it's related to radio you can just try to flash the latest radio 1.38.00.11 (ripped by Pof) without losing any of your data to see if this resolves your problem.
pof's Trin_Radio_1.38.00.11_Only_SSPL rip
Thanks
I'll try this later and report back...

Do you have Exchange (Push) email? Do you have set email receiving to happen after a certain amount of time?
No, good suggestion but it's not the email settings.
I've put the newer radio rom on and so far no turning on. But it's only been a few hours so far...
Still turns on - oh well !
I have this same problem with my Imate Jam, my phone is set to check email every 15mins and I think thats when it turns itself on. But this must be a bug because it drains the battery so much faster especially it the screen gets random inputs when it is in your pocket constantly.
Another suggestion - do you use Sprite Backup Battery Monitor ?
http://www.spritesoftware.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=606
or any other Weatherplugin which is checking every minutes the forecast ?

I have the same turning on issue. On mine, I know it is due to the email that is getting downloaded. Mine doesn't always do it, sometimes if I've been using wifi and turned it off, the phone will connect and check mail without coming out of standby. I haven't been able to track down exactly how to fix it. I do use DeviceLock which locks the screen so that if the phone wakes up for any reason when it is in my pocket or my backpack, buttons don't get pressed by accident.
My Dopod is turning on too and it really pisses me off.
I can be sure at 12:00am it will turn on every time.
I have reduced my power off time to 2min.

Before doing anything like flashing a different rom, start by eliminating some things
First remove your sim card and turn off the phone if it turns on by itself then its not network related nor has anything to do with your email settings.
Second try a different simcard and set the network manually to GSM and disable GPRS.
Third remove all programs that you've added(Hard reset if you have to).
Finally and if none of the above work flash a different rom.

N1 data connection issue... please help!

Hi everyone, I had a quick question I needed your assistance on.
Sometime I put my N1 into Airplane mode to save battery and when I finally turn airplane mode off I can never seem to get a data connection unless I totally shut off the phone and turn it back on again. Coming out of Airplane mode there will be a 3g signal on the status bar but only the up arrow will light up and anything needing data (browser, market, etc) wont work unless I totally shut off the phone and turn it back on again. Is this happening to you too?
The same thing happens if I open up the Quick Settings app and turn off mobile data (to save battery) and when I turn mobile data back on I have to restart the phone entirely for it to work properly.
It seems like my phone might be having an issue with data connection so I might have to call up HTC about it but I wanted to find out from the other members on the forum if this was happening to them too.
Thank you for your help
It's happened to me before using APNdroid.
Apparently you can fix it by turning the radio on and off in the testing menu (*#*#4636#*#), never tried it though.
Check that:
