Hi everyone, I had a quick question I needed your assistance on.
Sometime I put my N1 into Airplane mode to save battery and when I finally turn airplane mode off I can never seem to get a data connection unless I totally shut off the phone and turn it back on again. Coming out of Airplane mode there will be a 3g signal on the status bar but only the up arrow will light up and anything needing data (browser, market, etc) wont work unless I totally shut off the phone and turn it back on again. Is this happening to you too?
The same thing happens if I open up the Quick Settings app and turn off mobile data (to save battery) and when I turn mobile data back on I have to restart the phone entirely for it to work properly.
It seems like my phone might be having an issue with data connection so I might have to call up HTC about it but I wanted to find out from the other members on the forum if this was happening to them too.
Thank you for your help
It's happened to me before using APNdroid.
Apparently you can fix it by turning the radio on and off in the testing menu (*#*#4636#*#), never tried it though.
Check that:

Hmmm... I think I just found a way to really screw up your phone... let's see what you think of my theory:
1. Put your phone into Airplane mode. This will completly turn off all the radios in the phone.
2. Go into settings and set an unlock pattern.
3. Put your phone into standby mode and turn it back on.
4. If you use up all of your tries at the unlocḱ screen you will have to enter your login details to unlock it. BUT THE PHONE IS STILL IN AIRPLANE MODE. Hence, the phone will not be able to connect to Googles servers for verification. And the worst thing is that not even a shut down of the phone will remove the airplane mode. Not even a removal of the battery.
THe only way to get out of this is to do a hardware reset of the phone.
What do you this of this?
I am not gonna test my theory since I don't want to risk having to do a hardware reset.
I think before the phone tries to connect to the Google service it will prompt you with a 'turn off airplane mode/turn on mobile data/WiFi' option, like it does when you open an app that requires WiFi or GPS when those radios are switched off.
Try it

Nah... I am not going to get close and personal with my theory on this one... Just let's hope you're right... someone else might need to do a hardware reset?

So, my brother and I have been running MoDaCo 1.1 core for a couple days now.
My phone has stopped connecting to the mobile network. All it says when I try to connect is "Standby for connecting to mobile network" with a green checkbox. I also notice now when I select the checkbox to connect it turns green instantly and shows that standby message. Before it would take a couple seconds to connect and turn green.
I have tried changing the mode of operation and it still doesn't want to connect. There is no 1x or EVDO in the notification bar. Wifi and GPS still work fine.
My brother's phone is still working fine. I have no idea what the problem can be.
Anybody else having this problem with MoDaCo 1.1?
I think that it has something to do with airplane mode. I enabled airplane mode yesterday, then turned it off. I didn't realize my data wasn't working after that since I don't use it while I'm at home. I am not sure if that is exactly the problem, just trying to think about how it could have stopped working.
I've noticed mine will do this at random on the MoDaCo 1.1 ROM. Every now and then I'll look at my phone and realize my EV symbol at the top is gone and I have no network connection. When this happens both the option in Settings and the small on/off widget on one of my home screens say it's still turned on. If I turn it off and back on, then I just get the "Standby for connecting to mobile network" message too. The only way I've found to get it to work again is to reboot the phone.
FYI this same problem happens to me with the stock ROM, even when it wasn't rooted. I've noticed it only happens when you turn airplane mode on, and then off.
Hmmm...I never touch airplane mode and I never saw this happen once in the month that I had the phone with the stock ROM. Maybe my problem is unrelated then.
Even when I reboot my phone it still doesn't work. I have tried messing around with the widgets turning things on and off multiple times and still nothing can get it working again.
I just went back to an old nandroid backup from before I put MoDaCo 1.1 on the phone and it seems to be working again. I'm going to put 1.1 on again. I'll use it for a while and try to recreate the problem to figure out exactly what it is.
Sprint/HTC has to fix that. it's a bug.
Lately, I've been having an issue where if I go into an area with no service (or at least I think I have no service) I never get service again, even when I'm in areas where I know I have strong service. Sometimes if I go into airplane mode and back, it comes back, sometimes it doesn't, and sometimes when this happens, and I turn on airplane mode and turn it off again, the phone shuts itself off and I have to manually power it back on.
Anyone have this issue, or know what could be going on?

I have this same issue myself. Dunno what it is and wasn't able to fix it either. You can look through my comments to find an identicle thread I started a couple of days ago on this same issue titled "Data connection issue" to see if it helps.
I'll have airplane mode on for awhile but when I finally turn it off I get 3g data showing in the status bar but only one of the arrow's will light up if I try to use the browser and eventually sputters out. Same thing would happen with the Quicksettings app when I would turn off the apn data toggle for awhile, when I turn it back on there is no real data connection even though the 3g is showing...
I've tried the whole thing about pressing the #4#... etc to turn off the radio and turn it back on again but nothing works for me. I wish someone knew how to fix this
mine does the same thing. the only thing that works for me is turning it off and back on again. such a PITA.
mine does it also
I fixed my similar 3g problem by (re)flashing the radio from recovery.

same problem i just restart
same problem sometimes...i just switch airplane mode on and off and it usually fixes
Old bug: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2845
I'm hoping that Froyo finally brings a fix for this (and full Exchange calendar), or it's Craigslistville for my N1.

This or a restart will always fix the problem when this happens to me.

I have that radio flashed but in place of the U, mine has an H... whats the difference?
I'm crossing my fingers that this'll be remedied in the update..

i have read an old thread with a similar, not solved, problem, but i didn't wanted to write in a so old thread...
so...
when the wifi radio is on, my iconia a500 suddendly turns on the screen and it stays on also for various minutes, sometimes i guess also until the battery is completely finished (i have found more than once the tablet off because of battery drained in the morning, so i guess it was with screen on all night long)
this happens also if i set wifi to go off when display is off.
i have tried many different roms (taboonay, lightspeed ... and now i have thor rom 14.2, installed yesterday) but the problem is always here.
if i manually turn off wifi, this seems to never happen... or at least it never happened while i was watching the tablet during the last months
does anybody knows a solution, a hint... or anything that could be helpful to make this issue less annoying?
thanks!

You might have a program installed that is constantly calling for wifi access?
That's the only thing I can think of?
On my Rom, I haven't ever experienced that problem.
My settings are as follows:
Airplane mode on
Wifi On
Wifi disconnect policy: when screen turns off.
also when i just turn it on it happens, even with no services or program needing wifi...
but you gave a me a good idea to try...
i will put airplane mode on and check what happens now
and anyway, i'll check again my programs

If airplane mode is turned on doesn't that over ride the wifi on setting?
So if airplane mode is on wifi will always be off so the disconnect setting has no bearing.
Can someone please confirm above or explain..
thanks
no, you can put airplane mode and then turn on wifi
and seems like it is working well... but i don't want to talk too early...
Airplane mode is for tablet/phones with data connections. Airplane mode just turns that off

Yes, but for some strange reason it helps with the wake up problem some have
That's what I was getting at - when airplane mode is turned on it overrides all other settings and wifi can not be engaged in any way until it (airplane mode)is turned off.
Yup I was just answering Spud
Airplane mode only refers to the 3g/4g cell radio (so it turns off wireless network data/phone calls/texts etc.). You can still turn on wifi and use it when airplane mode is on because this is a different radio (well in the a500 there is no 3g radio). After all many airplanes now have wifi on board, however you're still supposed to have it airplane mode.
Thanks.
I haven't been able to turn in wifi with airplane mode on - it takes a longer push (hold) on the wifi button to engage.
I now have wifi on with airplane mode on - didn't realize airplane didn't also disable wifi.

Incorrect! You turn Airplane Mode on, which turns off wifi, then turn on wifi with Airplane Mode still turned on (and airplane mode stays on with wifi turned on as well).
after some days trying i have noticed that putting in airplane mode solves the problem...
but not always the tablet turns off wifi and stay in airplane mode when i turn off the display, it is surely some annoying app (or widget) that makes this happen.
i'm trying to understand which one

The only way to do that is process of elimination. Knocking out the variables one by one until you find the culprit, which has the potential to be a long, painstaking process. Start by uninstalling, one by one your apps that require internet access, and wait a couple days In between each one to see how your tab reacts. Then again, it may be an app that you wouldn't think needs wifi access to work, but in the background is calling for access.
Good luck with it!

Well there you have it.
All stock based ROMs allow it to be done.
In the morning before I go to work I usually disable WiFi as I don't use it at work and would like to save a little battery. However, I've noticed that throughout the day, I'll check a notification and see that WiFi has turned on without me turning it on myself. I can't see any pattern or correlation that would match up with this. Does anyone know what would cause this? I factory reset last night (due to an unrelated issue) and it's still occurring. I only have a couple of extra apps installed, Falcon Pro and reddit sync.
i think power saving mode sometimes enables wifi when its available... not sure how often this happens or if thats even the issue you're having but check the power save mode settings... 3g and 4g use more power than wifi

I don't have the power saving settings enabled, and I don't see any setting that resembles that kind of behaviour.
So at some point while I was driving home from work WiFi enabled itself again (I didn't even touch the phone). I'm wondering if it may be S Beam causing it? I haven't actually used it but it's the only thing I can think of that would need to actually turn WiFi on. I may try turning it off tomorrow morning when I turn WiFi off and see if that stops WiFi from randomly enabling.
Galaxy S4 Wifi auto enable
Is there a resolution for this? I heard that on the S3 it would pay attention to what cell towers you are using and if it recognizes you are in an area where you have used wifi before it will enable and connect. This seems to be the symptom that I am seeing and it's bad for me. It keeps trying to connect to my work network because occationally I log on so I can access materials. but when I want to listen to Slacker Radio I can't because it's blocked. This is a cronic problem for my phone and I'm not able to find out how to disable it.
if you have got any battery saving apps delete them
