I have been using my Treo Pro for a couple of months now and have not managed to simply switch it off!?!
When I press the "power" button on the top shortly the screen goes off and when I press it longer only the phone function goes off.
To switch it off completely I need to take out the battery.
Is this a bug or a feature???? Anyway it annoys me...
Cheers

Yes there is no off, holding the top button is only radio on and off e.g flight mode, thats how it was designed?, great isn't it!!!!
Reset instead of "off"
Yeah, I was a bit concerned about not being able to turn off my Treo completely either. The only way to reset it was to remove the back cover and press the reset button on the back lower left side of the phone. But taking the back cover off over repeatedly - which is somewhat of a pain to do as you may have noticed - could possibly lead to the widely reported cracks in the phone. However, if you remove the stylus and look in the small opening there, you can see the reset button! I unfolded a paper clip and was able to reach the reset button without any difficulty. I've tried to do this with the stylus itself, but I feel it's just slightly too thick to get in there properly without bumping into the rear cover. Windows Mobile tends to need a soft reset every now & then to keep things running smoothly, so hopefully this helps you.
It should also be noted that whenever you do a Sprite backup it will actually restart the phone before and after the backup.
I just do a weekly Sprite backup and haven't had to do a soft reset at all yet.
There is no Treo as far as I know of that had the ability to turn off completely. Probably because they thought that flight modus was enough
To soft reset device is advised to install a small app rather than to take the back cover off every time. This is absolulty the most stupid place to put the reset button. If I take off the cover you might as well pull out the battery instead
I have this POS also! I noticed this inability to power the phone off as well. I was able to power mine off by holding down the top power button then afterwards I held the red end button down untill it turned off. Seems to work, correct me if i'm wrong. I put my treo pro back in the box because i'm selling it asap! This phone has a very nice look and feel but I hate the tiny cramped keyboard and the display is very dull and faded looking. My two biggest gripes which is more than enough for for to deactivate it and go back to one of my other phones... like the touch pro i'm using to type this post. Fare well Palm Treo Pro!
Dull and faded screen?
To each his own I guess. My screen is sharp and so bright I had to crank it way down.
It's weird that you can't simply turn it all the way off. But that does not bother me too much. I want my phone on all the time.
The keyboard is small.....but very usable...IMHO.
I think it's near perfect in size and functionality. The Pre looks sweet but I will be in no hurry to switch over.....I can wait.
I would strongly disagree about the screen being dull and dark, that is crazy to me.
The only time I really ever want or need to shut my phone off is if it about to die and I want to shut my phone off in case I need it in an emergency to make a call. Not being able to do that has been incredibly inconvenient quite often lately. After a heavy day of usage my phone can die now by 7-8pm sometimes earlier. I had to go out and buy an i-go portable charger.

Same here.. ..I seemed that PocketNow received a Pro for a review suffering the same problems.
Can't complain on the screen on my Treo Pro! (It's not as colorful as my Nokia E71, but still good enough..

hahaha, the only thing left to do is find a third hand ;P
isnt there a poweroffwarning.exe in the windows folder , i know a link to that can turn off my diamond ?
In order to shutdown any Windows at the bottom level there is a call to a function called ExitWindowsEx, which in Windows Mobile 6 the flag EWX_POWEROFF isn't supported.
So in fact the problem of shutting down Treo isn't a problem specific of the device, but with the OS itself. So any Windows Mobile 6 based device will not power off, unless you take out the battery.

This explains the whole thing !!!
Apparently I have seen my HTC touch shutdown totally with the power button. This I believe is a "feature" with HTC phones. Since TP is actually HTC Panther, wonder if we can implement this...I will try and get an app around this and see what happens.
Go into the comm's menu and turn the phone off. Then lock it by hitting the red button once and hit the button at the top of the phone, left side of top.
Done.
You can turn off a treo pro by doing soft-reset and quickly holding the red, green, and top power buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. You can also remove and insert the battery and quickly hold those 3 buttons for 3 seconds. You turn it on by pressing the top power button.
OK, it does turn the treo pro off, but I can only turn it on by removing and putting back the battery.

Hello,
i have flashed my HTC Touch to WinMo 6.5.
Win 6.5 works great! Except one thing, i can't shut down my device!
If i press the power button i get the standard-Message from Windows (the message looks like HTC Touch-Flo 3D), that if i shut down my files i haven't saved yet will deleted...
Then i press "Yes" and then... nothing... i'm back in my home-screen...
Anybody an idea?
I had this problem, just back up your files and do a hard reset
(this is done by pressing the reset button, then holding down the red and green buttons. Then when it asks you if you want to do a hard reset, press the middle button)
When i press the ON button to start the device ( after blank mode) . automatically the volume is invoked which is very annoying.
Is that becaouse of moisture...????
how to get rid of that?
What rom are you using? Maybe that rom has an alternative function for power button on long press.
i have WM 6.1 Rom. not yet upgraded.but it seems that when i press the power button , the last application gets invoked automatically. i dismantled the HTC completely and didnt see any moisture here.. i m not understanding whats the problem. if in stanby position (when light is off) , i revove the SD card , then also the last application ( camera or keypad, vol control, phone book) gets invoked.
The problem was noticed when in mp3 player " Power Music" gives a shattering sound once , in playing music the screen goes blank.
@hatcap_2000: Check for buttons settings in Settings->Personal->Buttons
If I am not entirely wrong (I could be ), you are not closing the 'last application'. Close that application, suspend the device and see if the problem persists.
Like if you suspend your device while volume control is displayed, waking the device back to on will display the volume control.
what application to close? if i access an vol key? dear.if i access camera key and then blank the screen, in next power on event..., i get camera activated. is it a hrdwr fault or software flt?

If you click on the Speaker icon again, it will close the volume control.
Use task manager to close applications.
To me its a software fault.

I bought a new phone (HTC TOUCH 2) from China.
It is same as the original one.
My problem is: I can't do a HARD RESET or Soft Reset by Button.
I searched the forums and found some talking about pressing (VOLUNEUP+VOLUMEDOWN+Power.
others talking about VOLUMEDOWN+Power
I tried every possible key compinations to do the HARD RESET with no success.
When i press VOLUNEUP+VOLUMEDOWN+Power, a green screen show up with the bellow data:
"THIS OPERATION WILL SET KITL MODE.
CURRENT SETTING........
DISABLE KITL: CAMERA
PASSIVE KITL:VOLUMEDOWN
ACTIVE KITL: VOLUMEUP
I searched for a Camera button but it seems this button is not there at all, only one tall button on the left side for Volume (up+down)
Also there is no Reset button at all, i searched every where in the mobile with no success even if i remove the styles, nothing there at all.
is there any help?
I have some problem with my htc clone i have no camera button but i must change kitl to disable to comunicate my htc with pc with active or passive kitl mode usb connection are not recognized by my pc. Is there any way to change kitl mode using wm mobile aplication or something like that i want to change my rom too. cause this one is probably for another htc with camera button
Hard Reset
Go to menu -> settings -> system -> clear storage to hard reset your phone
don't work with my problem after clear storage kitl stays in passive mode i need disable for usb comunication
Also, all owners of this mobile having the below problems:
1- Can't load normal Rom files (.nbh), they should load it through a flash memory
2- Rom File size should be smaller than 128mb.
3- Can't connect it with PC Post#2.
4- No Camera Button !!!!
Mine was disabled and I don't know which combination of buttons I pressed to enable it but now it really startups slow and also the usb connection problem came up. So anyone?
I tried each and every possible key combination with no success to Disable kitl.
Any help?
I would never trust a clone for a wm as i do keep all of my work on it. Never ever trust a chinese clone company for this. Better to pay a few dollars more and buy the real one than risk loosing all of my data kept.
You are right 100%.
but, what about the current case?
Do i have to put it in the trush bin?

Press (VolumeUP + VolumeDown + Power) then select Passive again...Working fine
Once press the "Windows logo" + "Volume Up" + "Power" working hard reset
Hard Reset is easy. Press the Volume up an down key from the center.i.e press it form the middle. like that both the up an down keys would be pressed. then Power on. Easy. yes it wasn't easy for me too in the start but a bit more pressure and it works.
