Im keeping it blunt.... i havnt done anything to my brad new O2 XDA II mini, i am using a telstra simcard here in Australia and i cannot get any service, nor do i think it connects to my service provider. The only thing i did was upgrade to radio 1.13 a couple of min ago. Can anyone help me? ive tried different sim cards, and my sim card works on another phone!
ok, i took the back panel off and i was playing around with the exposed flat metal piece, which i assume is the anntena and for a split second i got two bars of service, which then i lost... so im back to square one... what can i do. Please help me.

just rang the tech support @ O2 explained the problem to them and here is the solution..
1) take out ur O2 simcard
2) look at the colour and see if its a blue one with the bubbles
if yes then you have a 16k type and you need to order a 32k sim from your service proider.
the tech support is very good, the engineer assured me that the upgraded sim will work fine.

How can this be the case? My SIM has bubbles but is marked 32k!
And I have the RSU 4.21 upgrade problem whether or not the SIM card is in place.
Nothing seems to work
what problems have you got ?
the problem here is crap reception and failing to reconnect after signal loss, the rest of the pda is fine.
perhaps you need to talk to tech support @ O2
here is the number I rang, when u get to customer services ask them to put you through to technical support.

My XDA has good months and bad months. Although this seems to be a bad week. No bars on the Antenna signal strength. But phone calls are perfectly fine for me!
I'm lucky my contract is up at the end of the month. Time to get a proper phone. The XDA is a great principle, just that it falls to short for me. Maybe the XDA III will be better... 2005?!

Tried a friends T-Mobile simcard in my xda exec today, working fine no probs.
Get home to my new simcard and contract (moved across due to unlimited internet for £7.50 pm), put simcard in.
Firstly had invalid/missing sim, rebooted, then it was constantly looking for a network, rebooted a few times, exactly same.
I put the new tmob simcard in an old nokia, bang, full signal strength.
Back in exec, cant find anything
Call CS, all they could think was that it may have been an old stock sim not compatible with the exec ...
Any thoughts?
Should have new sim in a day or so, and hopefully it will work!
how bouta full reset
sure you may have alot to loose but it may fix the prob
Hey guys,
I finally got my P3600 send over from Europe ... (none branded HTC Version... so no Vodafone Lock or so) However, if I insert my German SIM it will be recognized, but if I do the same with my NewZealand Vodafone Prepaid it jsut tells me that there isn't any SIM inserted Both Sims work fine with my German Nokia so I am not sure what the problem is.
Does anybody have a similar problem or know how to fix this?
help really appreciated

Hi rodpacker
Welcome to the short list of members with a P3600 in NZ
Unfourtunatley I can't help you at the moment, I have a VFNZ OnAccount SIM that works fine, I guess I could try out my missus PrePaid SIM if you still can't get it to work after a couple of retries.
If you live in Auckland you could rock into CoolMobile or ETown, they were selling P3600's for a while and may have come across issues with PrePaid SIMs.
Not that it would make any difference, but do you have a SIM2 or older SIM card, and what size KB is it? Also I presume you have credit on it....
I had a similar problem when attempting to use my old China Mobile SIM, and got it sorted by getting the later version SIM card.
hm, good to hear that there is some others
I got a vodafone prepaid I bought like two months ago....Not sure which version it is. It says 128k and 3G on it. Does that tell u guys anything?
thanx heaps for ur help...
and jep I am in Auckland. Although got two p3600's and gonna sell one of em soon ... brand new!
How much where they when they were sold over here?
cheers
Rodpacker
tried another prepaid .... still no luck
last night I thought I might have to unlock my phone and it wasn't unlocked as I thought, however after ur message concerning NZ SimCards I doublechecked again and after using a German Medion Simcard, that worked I tried a UK O2 prepaid and that worked as well...I even got roaming going...So I guess I can save myself the hazzle of reunlocking the device...
Now could u maybe give me some more hints on the problem with NZ Vodafone Simcards?
thanx
Rodpacker
Hi rodpacker
A 128k 3G SIM should work. Have you tried your new SIM in another phone to make sure it's not a dud?
The P3600's were going for around $1200-1300 (NZD). Not sure why they stopped selling them (maybe because they wern't selling ). I got mine imported from the states for $800NZD delivered in box with warranty, so that's what you would be competing with to sell your spare.
jep card is working in my other phone atm ...
thanx for the price info...
good to know. Still busy skinning mine with the iphone skin and ipod player...since touchFlow isn't out for our model yet... will go to those shops u were talking about tomorrow
cheers
Rodpacker
Hi Rodpacker,
Sorry for my english..
about your problem, I remember a forum with a boy with similar problem...Can you try to speak about your (NZ) vodafone customer service. If i remember well the cust.serv unblocked a sim...
If I have not understand your problem, sorry
Bye
I think I'm about the only one who actually bought a P3600 retail in NZ, at the time it would have cost more to get it in from overseas...
But I'm probably not much help, my SIM is also on account - and is an ancient one as well! Was one of the original SIMs before the days of SIM2...
What radio version does your one have on it? Go to Start->Settings->System->Device Information to check. I've had issues with one of the later radio versions (1.46.x) in NZ, accepted the SIM ok but couldn't receive any calls. Currently using v1.38 which seems to work ok.
The radio ROM talks to the SIM, so this could be the issue.
dear friends
i have came across very different behavior of my phone. here is what happened,
1. while removing battery one of the pin/connector of phone (from where current is given to phone from battery) was broken. so phone went dead. i have to send it to service centre. they replaced the whole assembly of connectors.
2. I am using sim card of provider 'Idea' in india
now my phone switches off when i try to
i) make calls
ii) receive calls
for these two events it switches off most of the times
iii) when i try to use gprs net, it switches off instantly..
3. this does not happens with my brothers sim card of airtel company
4.same behaviors is shown with sims of vodaphone, reliance gsm, bsnl cards.
5.i used my sim card (idea) on brothers ASUS PDA, everything works fine.
5. i tried to show this, on another vodaphone sim of friend to persons at service centre, every thing was fine...(is phone playing with me )
Now what should i do?
plz plz help me
Where r u....masters?

If your SIM is prepaid, then that might be the culprit, since Vodafone's Prepaid SIMs are 16K, and they cause problem with high end phones.
explanation
thanks 4 reply.
I have tried sims as
idea- postpaid=== result: shutdown/restart
airtel- postpaid==== result: works good
vodaphone- prepaid=== result: shutdown/restart
bsnl- prepaid=== result: shutdown/restart
reliannce(gsm) prepaid=== result: shutdown/restart

Basically make sure you have a 32K SIM, even airtel's prepaid sim will work good, since they are 32 K. Sorry buddy, but I do not know about other operators except vodafone, which gives 16K SIM for prepaid (shutdown/restart) and 32K for Post Paid.
More clarification
thanks for reply...so I came 2 know that lot many people are reading and some of them are ready to answer. Here is my updated clarification for irritating behavior of gene.
1.The sim of idea I'm using is 32K
2. last night only I upgraded to wm 6.1 after patching spl(old gene)
but phone shuts down while start of gprs access and in between phone call.
now it goes on restarting 2/4 times after manual restart and finally comes 2 life..
I think that the problem is created by service centre after resoldering connector unit of battery..
plz plz guide some body

It could be, I had a similar problem with my Vox (when the battery was gone ). But it did not restart, it would shut off. May be you need to take it back to service center.
Best of Luck (HTC service comes with 1 month warranty).
GOT solution !!!
hi
thanks 4 ur support.
i opened the mobile with the help of manual (htc service manual: the confidential one
found that the pins of battery connector with motherboard were loose.
tried to move a bit and came out of MB. this must be problem created by htc care guy at poona. so went to local mobile maintenance shop. asked him to solder the connector to MB. and voila ...
now i have been using it every sim ,, for surfing also. works fine.....
PS...
ADVICE TO GENE users:
do not pick up the battery by force from body as it will give pressure on connector joint with MB...seems prob with gene.
Hi all, im thinking about getting either the Hero or the touch Diamond 2 sim free which i have seen going for about £400 (Hero that is) and would like to use an O2 pay and go sim with it.
Question is can anybody using an O2 pay and go sim give me any feedback as regards compatability, call quality and access to the internet etc?
I have read that the settings are pulled to the phone from the sim when you first power up, but would help if an actual user could confirm this for me as its a lot of money to spend as you can appreciate.
A friend of mine recently bought a sim free Diamond 2 used from E Bay and tried several sims in it only to find that it could not connect to any network, however it later turned out that the phone had been reported lost/stolen and some sort of block put on it. Luckily he got his money back but it throws up the question for me wether there may be an O2/ HTC sim incompatability as O2 dont officialy support this manufacturers devices.
Any feedback would be appreciated, im a new member and this would be my first smartphone so please be gentle lol.
Many thanks.
I had my O2 sim in my Sim free Hero for a week with no problems what so ever.
I'm using an O2 pay-monthly SIM with no problems, all the settings were done automatically. Haven't tried a pay and go but I reckon you'll be okay.
Great new guys many thanks for the replies
