have you checked that your backup battery, the one built into the phone is fully charged before you take out the battery. (check in your settings menu under power)
i have replaced mine from a totaly broken xda (picked it up on ebay) as mine had failed and would no longer hold a charge for more than a few seconds.
i also had major probs with a hi powered battery it kept failing for some reason, totaly losing charge in a mater of hours on standby and this kept hard resetting my phone. so i no longer use the larger batteries.

The backup battery is fully charged
After have taking off the main battery about five minutes and putting on a fully charged one the back up battery might shows the power percentages about 25%.But It almost takes me about 30 seconds to change a another new battery,it's not possible the backup power's problem. I change battery exactly the same way when I do it.That's just too weird it sometimes hard reset and sometimes just doesn't.

The backup battery is fully charged even after having take off the main battery for three minutes!so there is nothing to do with the backup power.
I change battery exactly the same way everytime. Why just sometimes it gets hard restted and sometimes it doesn't.It makes me wonder.
Is this eda ii a broken one?Maybe I should turn it back to the repaireman's house for a few weeks?you know how bad China's services are ,they never do things that customers need.

Thanks your heartkinded help anyway

Thanks the same way though your idea seems not where the problem at.

like i mentioned it could just be because one of your batteries has an intermitant fail, as i said i had the same problem with a hi capacity battery, it somtime hard reset my phone for no reason.
just try buying a couple of new batteries, or lable your batteries and see if its only on one of them that the HR occurs.

Backup Battery did not recharge any more

Hello,
My backup battery did not recharge any more. Now, I can not even turn it on (the main battery is fully charged). In my area, there is no replacement.
So, what should I do now to make it work again?
Thanks
your post is a llittle tricky.. how did you know that the backup battery did not charge? and the main battery is full? when you can't even turn your XDA on?
have you tried to hard reset your phone? it might just be a software problem..
I had a trip for 2 days without my xda, and when I came back, I could not turn it on, I guessed that the battery is empty. So, I put it on the cradle, nothing happened. I noticed there were a socket on the cradle to put the second battery. I removed the main battery and put the main battery on the cradle. The led showed in red indicating the main battery were charging. And I put my xda on the cradle again, the red led showed too. After a while, I noticed the led changed from red to blue. It indicated that the main battery is full. I got the main battery out of the cradle. But my xda still in red. I tried for several time, nothing changed. And I put the main battery into my xda. It turned on. And there were a message saying "The backup battery is extremely low, please change or recharge as in the manual". I ran the battery application, it said that the main battery were 100% and the backup battery were 0%. The software started to install like to make a hard-reset. When it finished installing. It were soft-reset automaticely as usual. But the backlight of screen is turn off, and the picture look dummy. That ware exactly the time I can not turn my xda on anymore.
Now, there is something so strange with my xda. When I put it on the cradle without the main battery, the led lights in red in about 20 minutes and then turn off automaticly. But when I put it with the main battery, nothing happen.
I did try for hundred of times, but nothing changed. I guess that my xda is dead.
So sad.....
Maybe your XDA has a problem in its charge pins.
You should let it checked by someone.
I had the same problem as you before, but I exchanged that XDA with the new one
did you actually hard reset your phone yet? something like this happened to me two nights ago.. my phone went low on batt so i charged it and it was ok then so i turned it off so that it could charge better.. when i came back to check, i cant turn it on anymore so i disconnected it from the charger.. i took off the battery and placed it back.. but my phone didnt respond anyway.. no lights no nothing! my last resort was to HARD RESET my phone.. by placing back the battery and holding the power button while i press the reset button with the stylus.. and voila it's up again..
thanks for everyone, I did find out the problem, that is the backup battery,
I openned my xda and remove the backup battery, It works just like before. I also experience that If the backup battery is dead then we must remove or change the new one then the phone will work. It will not boot or charge with the dead one inside.
Why take out the battery and charge it separately ?
Just put the battery back to xdaII and place the xdaII in the cradle and charge it together.
im very sorry for my late reply.. if only you recieved it earlier you didnt have to open your XDA and void your warranty.. but it's good that it's ok now!
same here
i have exactly the same problem with my backup battery...i just got my xda 2i today and I tried to charge it up the main battery quickly went up to 100% but the backup battery has stuck into 75% and after a while the orange light become green as if it has charged. It takes either a soft reset or I need to disconnect (either from cable or cradle) and connect again in order to become orange and probably to start charging again...
what's wrong with the damn thing?

Only 0% or 100% batt but nothiung in beetwin

Everything was just fine until yesterday when i realized the batterty's built-in monitor wasn't reading a real batt stat. I was sure I was running out of charge and the divice was still saying there was 50% left. I did a soft reset and my atom didn't boot. I took the battery off and waited more than 3 hours, put it back and couldn't boot. I haven't ever done anything to my mobile. No register tweacks, fisical hits or rom upgrades. I searched the web and found a procedure to get it back. Reset+camera choose 1 option and there you go with your device booting at last. I did so but when it ended whith the system loading proces it sent a notification saying that the battery was exhausted and it went off. Again it couldn't boot in a normal way even with the ac adaptor plugged in. I made sure the battery was fully charged. I did a bootloader again (reseat+camera) with the usb connected and i could get it back again but showing 0% battery indicator and would turn off as soon as i unpluged it. I tested the battery with a multimeter and even when it was fully charged i tried to recharge it until green light then i turned it on and the batt monitor was 100%. I could unpluged the usb and everything was fine. It didn't turn off but the indicator got stock in 100%. After an hour or so of normal use i was sure the battery was 90% or less while it was still indicating 100% of charge. I did a soft reset and couldn't boot again. I think the device knows when the battery is 100% charged but when it is less tha 100% and i do a soft or cold reseat the mobile thinks the battery is 0% and won't boot.
Yes, I have ugraded to ROM Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822 to see if this fixes it but now i have a rom-upgraded aton exec with the same fatal error.
I am at work rigth now and hopping my atom doesn't need a soft reset because if so i need to plug it in in order to be able to do a reseat+camera and wait some minutes until green ligth shows up. My atom knows 0% or 100% of battery charge but no numbers in beetwin.
Any ideas?
did you charge the battery for 8 hours on first use, continuing to discharge battery completely first three charges?
This is crucial for battery performance I now get at least three days of moderate usage and at least 7 days in standby, my advice is go buy a new battery follow the instruction manual completely, failing any changes (be sure to buy battery from somewhere you can get refunded) return the battery. Try also reflashing using bootloader mode, not using the SD card!
The last time i used bootloader was after hard reset a no card inside then i performed the last ROM upgrede available from O2. It seems to be a hardware problem more than a software problem as i thought at the begining.
I hope you are rigth, i guess the device gets charge information from the battery and the battery is telling it when it is 100% and 0% when it is under 100% and after a soft or cold reset. I am going to drain the battery all the way down and recharge it up to green light to see what happens. By the way i did not charge the battery 8 hrs when new.
Where do you think my atom is geting the batt charge information? From one of its inside sensors or from batt circuits?
Thaks for your advice.
I mean reflash using bootloader mode, ie. enter bootloader then plug in USB and run DSUU installer from your PC. Its hard to say where the fault lies, some Atom's had power management issues and O2 are fully aware of it, if yours is still under warranty I suggest sending it to a service center but be prepared to be without it for at least a month! (should change their name to SLOW2) and also be prepared to have it returned to you only to find they havent done a damn thing!
Its a bad battery, same thing happened to me. Just return it for a new one, the material is moulded with the smart chip inside there is no way to fix it.
Now my battery is beetwin 100% and 85%. I have searched other forums and i found out it is definitly a battery issue. It has been more than 6 months since i bougth my Atom so i have no more battery garanty. I thing i am going to wait before i buy a new one in orther to get the most of it since it still last more than 2 days.
Thanks for the information.
when a battery xp-02 (for atom family) is sometime stop at certain percentage, says 72% for long time, i do a soft reset and it drops to says 40%, is it a symptom of bad battery? or it is a ROM problem?

Wizard suddenly died yesterday

Hello,
I've a Wizard that is approximately 20 months old. Yesterday, before I went to bed, I set the alarm clock on the Wizard, put it next to bed and went to sleep.
This morning upon waking up I tried to switch on the Wizard but it couldn't. Firstly, I thought the battery was discharged, so I tried charging through USB on my computer -- it wouldn't charge or start. Then, I tried charging on the default charger -- again nothing.
I tried removing battery and soft reset - nothing. It's really weird, yesterday I left it working, no-one has touched it and today it's totally non-responsive.
Any ideas what might be wrong/how can I bring it back to life? Would a hard-reset help?
Regards,
1. how much charge was in the battery last night?
2. is your battery 20 months old also?
3. do you have a spare battery to try?
4. do you have many applications, music etc. on the device?

Unfortunately I can't remember, however I have an alarm which sounds periodically when the battery is below 20%, so I'm guessing I had at least 20 percent. Could be wrong, of course, but most likely above 20%.

The Wizard came with a 64MB card I think. I had around 10MB free space. 3-4 applications, 2-3 mp3s. Nothing unusual.
Same thing (sort of) happened to mine after about 187 months. I was using mine and it hung up. I hit the reset button and that was the end of that. Even when plugged in it does nothing. Tried a hard reset... nothing. Soft reset.... nothing. Dead. Zip. Nadda.
Good news? Replaced it with a Kaiser!

Mine died too when i was flashing...
Leave the phone in the original charger for a while and see if it picks up...sometimes it comes back to life by doing that...
If that doesnt work, try a new battery, you might be lucky...
A somewhat strange development occurred today:
Today (3 days after it stopping working) I randomly tried to switch the Wizard on and it indeed switched on. It showed that it had 0% battery. It didn't even show 0%, basically the battery charge graph was empty - no number, no fill, nothing.
While it was on charge the charge light was on (while it was 'broken' the charge light was off when I tried to charge). So I left it to charge and when I checked back in 15 minutes it was back to being 'dead'. Can't be started, no charge light, nada.
I don't really know what's going on, however I'm highly suspicious of the battery. Currently, I'm periodically trying to switch it on again so I can backup my data.
Any ideas what might be wrong with it, do you think it's the battery or is it more serious?
Regards,
The battery won't charge if it gets to low.
There is a thread about using a 9V battery to get the battery up to a level so it will charge. I don't have the link for it, try searching for it or maybe someone else will reply.
You might have a bad battery. I bought a new battery because I didn't think I was getting the life that I should. I tried using the old battery about a month after when I had to run out and my main was low. About 15 minuets later my phone started shutting of and rebooting. That was the end of that battery.
Yep, it's possible. If the battery is to empty, you can't charge the phone. It is stupid but it's just like that. You also can't power on the phone without a battery with the charger connected.
Yesterday I received my wizard and I had to revive my battery too because it was completely empty. I used a self made 5V power supply and after 2 minutes charging I placed the battery in the wizard and was able to charge and boot with the charger connected.
Here's the 9v battery trick, connect the + from the 9v battery to the + of the phones battery and the - to the -, hold there for only 10 seconds then remove the connection for 10 seconds and then repeat the process about 8 to 10 times and then put the battery back in the phone and connect it to the wall charger to fully charge.
Thanks for the advice. I'm going to do the jump-start thing.
However, I've hard time determining which is the - and which is the + pin layout on the battery, since the label is not correctly applied.
As far as I can see the - is the one at the far right, however I'm not sure which is the + pin.
Can someone help me with this, please?

When you take out the battery and put it back in that direction ,turn and face up the connector side fasing you,the first connector from the rightside of the battery is the ' + ' and the last is ' - ' towards the leftside.Be careful while connecting and try not to touch other connectors. Don't keep the connections longer then 10 seconds interval.
good luck
Xeno1,
My MDA battery also died and went below re-chargeable state. Your trick to use 9volt battery to jump-start it worked just fine for me. I connnected for about 20 seconds (2x times) and plugged it back into phone and connected USB cable to it and my nice yellow charging light came back on. After about 30 mins, I could use the phone.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT TIP!!!
easier fix, take a standard usb cable. rip off the smaller end with a wire cutter, expose the red and black wire. take out your battery, than connect the negative(black) wire to the negative end of the battery, than the red wire to the positive end of the battery, leave it in there for exactly 3-5 minutes for jump start. after that turn your wizard on, and quickly shove it inside a new usb cable. or the wall charger.
note:
if not done correctly, you may damage your wizard or the battery. if theres a power overload or your power goes out. your wizard will burn out!
feedback is greatly appreciated.
p.s after that my battery seem to be weak, charge barely holds for 12 hours. after 12-14 hours it will die out. so i suggest buying a new battery after couple of days.
Thanks guys! Vario died yesterday and wouldn't turn on or charge.
Tried the 9v battery recommended here and it worked! I was a little unsure which end was - and which was + but using the advise above, got it right. Wasn't too worried as found and ordered a replacement from ebay this morning for £7.
The first connector on the right hand side, nearest the end of the battery is the + the one more towards the middle and further away from its corresponding end is -, or at least, thats what worked for me.
Thanks again!
Experiencing the same issues after I set aside my Mini S as it was experiencing problems with regards to its screen alignment. Wasn't able to charge it during that time I kept in the drawer unused - due to frustration as I can't use it anymore. After downloading a guide to disassmble it so I could remedy the problem I found out that it won't power up anymore even with a new battery.
Well, haven't tried the jumpstart thing and the original battery was disposed of already to try the jumpstart idea. Could it be the internal battery is causing the problems? I opened my unit up and tested the internal battery for power and it registers a measly .2V left. Will use the 9V thing to power it up (as been doing that before on watch batteries that are hard to find replacements) before I do it on the main battery. Here's hoping it works as the Mini S has been quite useful for me until now.
UPDATE: I charged the internal battery and it now reads 1+ V and the external battery at 3+ V. No luck yet though as the unit still won't show any life. Any suggestions?
Vivanov, I know it's been a few years now, but did you end up fixing your problem? If so, how?

Charging stuck at 70%,PLS HELP

Guys pls help..I have this problem, that when I'm charging my trinity,it couldn't reach 100% of charging (full charge) instead was stuck to 70%.eventhough i charge it overnight.I'm thinking if it is a battery prob or the charger. i am using the originally supplied charger & battery.
Thanks in advance...
Have you tried powering the unit off, removing the battery for, say, 15 seconds, then refitting it and rebooting?... Check the battery level after reboot?... Then retry charging again?...
Maybe a full discharge might help "reset" the above problem too?...
I'm not sure, but I think the Trinity battery management is quite dependant on so called "coulomb counting" and I reckon sometimes it goes a bit wrong.

Try battery callibration procedure!
The actual standalone charger (if that's what you're referring to) has no intelligence in it to speak of. Battery charge monitoring/status will be an integral function to the phone itself using dedicated h/w.
Something's not quite right with your kit somehow. Maybe the battery has gone a bit wrong (could be replaced - how much use has it had?)... Rather that than the phone itself, in which case it'll need repair.
You can try tnyynt's suggestion of Battery Calibration. Basically this requires you to totally discharge the battery (I suggest thru normal use of your phone!) then when it shuts down "cos battery is flat" reboot the phone into its bootloader screen (power down, then press and hold Power & Camera buttons until Tri-colour screen is displayed)... Then just leave the phone until it powers off of its own accord.
This may take a few hours (I did mine recently and it took @4hrs!) but the battery should be as discharged as its possible to get by that point...
And if you're lucky, it might just sort your problem out when you next recharge!
Good luck dude!!!

thanx again LoopyLoo,you made this procedure (battery callibration) clear to me,on how to do it.will try this procedure and will report asap the result.hope it works (fingers crossed),and hope it's not an internal phone prob.
Thanx Bro!!:>
Let me know how you get on.
I'm a little baffled as to why you have problems with your friends charge too but not USB???...
battery callibration not worked...
I'm sorry to report that after 3 times of trying the battery callibration method,my trinity still doesn't reach its 100% capacity of charging thru the standalone charger..but mysteriously charge a 100% with USB charging..I'm still not really sure why this happened..maybe will try to see a mobile technician for PPC..anyways,thanx for all your suggestion..will report ASAP after going to a service center..

Just want to share about Magician battery (s*cks!)

Hello,
Last night I am charging my HTC Magician until 100%. Yeah, full. Then I unplug it from the cord. I've check the battery meter, 100%. Then I using it for some phone call, internet and sms. The remaining battery is 96%. But, I dont know why, myself is checking the meter again. It show charging !!! What? I am not plugging it into power cord! But the backup battery show "_Charging" ... hmm .. what does the underscore character meaning on the backup battery? It is never charged, I always look it 100%. Thinks it an error, I restart the device using psshutxp.
But, what? Still black screen?
Hm, then I remove the battery and reinsert again. Not turning on. OW ow...it seems bad. I retry remove and reinsert, same. Plugging the power charger, the LED turning on RED. Hmmm...on each battery, RED is initial charging, when battery discharged fully, hm?
BUT I'VE CHARGING until 100% approximate 45 minutes ago!!
Trying again to remove and reinsert the battery without power charger.
It turns on! Wow! BUT ...
I am using Cotulla HTCMAG_WWE_O2 rom. When we do hardreset, cotulla rom have a progress bar, written "Erasing...please wait" right?
AND IT APPEARS!
OMG, I think the PDA is 'restored'. Hey, PDA, I dont do reset!
Damn ... I've lost all of my SMS and contacts ... bad news ... But I have backup contacts via activesync so dont need to worry. About SMS? Yeah, they're gone. Then I sleep. Hmm...SMS messages collected since aug 08 lost just because of this f*cking battery.
This morning, I want to going to work.
Hey, the PDA is dead again!
Try remove and reinsert, then press power button, LED turn on with violet color! (i think it was the combination of bluetooth LED and red coloured LED).
Trying several times, and then turn on again. Restored again.
It seems the battery needs to replace (ABSOLUTELY...since got this PDA, it turn off when 28% battery).
THE END..
Will going to a store to find a replacement battery.
I am using Cotulla HTCMAG_ROM_WWE_O5 Rom.
When I charging my HTC Magician until 100% the LED never change to green color.
Anyone have same problem with me???
yes, mine too. may be it rom's problem.
sounds a lot like you have a dead battery, try getting a new one, that should fix the problem.
I've had batteries that did all sorts of crazy stuff when they were dying.
if batery voltage is going down to 3.2V or less that mean it dying? I looked with powerDetect and when battery remaining less then 30% voltage is going down. and if it is less than 3.1V My magician turn off and I should turn on again. If I try turn on phone on less than 10% my magician turn off too. So that mean I should change my battery?
I don't know bout voltages etc. but if your battery is not holding charge well and/or is shutting off suddenly (mine used to do it at around 40%), then it is time for a new battery.
I recommend this one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23962 (if you search magician you can also find the 1800mAh version.
the thing about these are they are fakes made by dealextremem, so they haven't been lying around for as long as some of the bateries on ebay etc.
on top of that they are really cheap with free shipping to boot.
but these batteries quality same than original? Because I don't want change battery or have explosion as I hear in news about other not original batteries
It is funny, people are beta testing a free stuff. Yet they complain like they've paid zillions for it. Sometimes those who complains most are those who intentionally sell Cotulla's works on their puny mobile phone shops. Instead of complaining, try contributing by experimenting on the software.
Keep it up Cotulla, Since you began the 6.1 you've been beaten and crucified for telling the world that it would work. Many thinks Cotulla is crazy and is dreaming. I salute one great Russian guy who once branded GAY and Crazy. Now he re written history, several times.
Let's just be thankful,
Salam.
you know, my battery used to turn off at 50%. because sometimes it uses it for backup battery so your data is not lost completely quickly. u should buy htc just like i did because the battery is very good. and by the way does anyone have a cooked rom for htc blackstone cause i want 2 upgrade it to wm6.5
