Hello,
My backup battery did not recharge any more. Now, I can not even turn it on (the main battery is fully charged). In my area, there is no replacement.
So, what should I do now to make it work again?
Thanks
your post is a llittle tricky.. how did you know that the backup battery did not charge? and the main battery is full? when you can't even turn your XDA on?
have you tried to hard reset your phone? it might just be a software problem..
I had a trip for 2 days without my xda, and when I came back, I could not turn it on, I guessed that the battery is empty. So, I put it on the cradle, nothing happened. I noticed there were a socket on the cradle to put the second battery. I removed the main battery and put the main battery on the cradle. The led showed in red indicating the main battery were charging. And I put my xda on the cradle again, the red led showed too. After a while, I noticed the led changed from red to blue. It indicated that the main battery is full. I got the main battery out of the cradle. But my xda still in red. I tried for several time, nothing changed. And I put the main battery into my xda. It turned on. And there were a message saying "The backup battery is extremely low, please change or recharge as in the manual". I ran the battery application, it said that the main battery were 100% and the backup battery were 0%. The software started to install like to make a hard-reset. When it finished installing. It were soft-reset automaticely as usual. But the backlight of screen is turn off, and the picture look dummy. That ware exactly the time I can not turn my xda on anymore.
Now, there is something so strange with my xda. When I put it on the cradle without the main battery, the led lights in red in about 20 minutes and then turn off automaticly. But when I put it with the main battery, nothing happen.
I did try for hundred of times, but nothing changed. I guess that my xda is dead.
So sad.....
Maybe your XDA has a problem in its charge pins.
You should let it checked by someone.
I had the same problem as you before, but I exchanged that XDA with the new one
did you actually hard reset your phone yet? something like this happened to me two nights ago.. my phone went low on batt so i charged it and it was ok then so i turned it off so that it could charge better.. when i came back to check, i cant turn it on anymore so i disconnected it from the charger.. i took off the battery and placed it back.. but my phone didnt respond anyway.. no lights no nothing! my last resort was to HARD RESET my phone.. by placing back the battery and holding the power button while i press the reset button with the stylus.. and voila it's up again..
thanks for everyone, I did find out the problem, that is the backup battery,
I openned my xda and remove the backup battery, It works just like before. I also experience that If the backup battery is dead then we must remove or change the new one then the phone will work. It will not boot or charge with the dead one inside.
Why take out the battery and charge it separately ?
Just put the battery back to xdaII and place the xdaII in the cradle and charge it together.
im very sorry for my late reply.. if only you recieved it earlier you didnt have to open your XDA and void your warranty.. but it's good that it's ok now!
same here
i have exactly the same problem with my backup battery...i just got my xda 2i today and I tried to charge it up the main battery quickly went up to 100% but the backup battery has stuck into 75% and after a while the orange light become green as if it has charged. It takes either a soft reset or I need to disconnect (either from cable or cradle) and connect again in order to become orange and probably to start charging again...
what's wrong with the damn thing?

Good day,
I own a Orange M1000 now for 4 months, (Qtek 2020)
3 weeks ago I installned the Sin Merged v2.0 rom.
No problems, everything went ok and smooth.
Yesterday when I got home I have put my phone on my desk.
When I tried to start it this morning, nothing, it won't go on.
I browsed through the forums and tried a lot.
With no result .
(Hard reset won't work, can't get into bootloader, leaving SIM and battery out for a hour, charging the device with the adaptor).
The only thing I get from the device is a red light when I put in charger without the battery in the device.
I really don't know what to do now, any help would be appreciated!
*frustrated at the moment*
I don't want to be annoying, but isn't there any one who could help me?
I really need my phone for my work and school and I have no replacement at the moment.
Really, any help at all would be very, very appreciated!
I have the same problem today, all I can do is sending back to repair
Sorry, I may be stupid but it wasnt clear to me if you charged the battery in the cradle, ie battery on charge without phone.
Take the battery out, leave the phone on the desk and pop the battery only in charger. Wait 2 hours or so (minimum), now put battery in XDA and soft reset.
That worked on mine when it went mental like this.
thanks for your reply .
I just try and seem you are right.
the backup battery all gone and I charge the o2 without battery for an hour and the backup battery for 50% charged.
Is that the only way to charge the backup battery ?
It seems the backup batter takes its charge from the main battery. So if you have a totally flat backup battery (a non removeable one inside XDA) and put a fully charged main battery in, with no charger connected you will see the backup battery slowly charge itself from empty to full from the main battery.
This seems to prevent charging when the main battery is totally dead.
The only way to get it running again is to remove the main battery and charge it outside the XDA.
This is at least what happens on my XDA, so forgive me if its different for anyone else.
Thank you for your replies,
So it worked for you allen?
My problem is, I didn't get a cradle with my phone, and I can't get ik spare here at stores.
Sending back for reparation isn't an option.
I didn;'t have a lot of moeny and I bought it second hand. (still in box though..)
Any suggestions on where to buy a cradle?
my xda2 has stopped working
i tried switching it on and nothing happens.
Thought it was the battery but have replaced it with my spare one. same problem
wont charge from cradle or wall charger (not even the led lights up)
light turns red if no battery in and charger connected.
tried reset (soft and hard)
is it time for a new one or can it be fixed?
XDA2 won't turn on
It could be the locking switch in the battery compartment.
When you move it to remove the battery it uses the backup battery to retain the memory contents (you get about 20 minutes so I read somwhere) and when you lock it again the battery becomes enabled.
If this is faulty then no XDA. One thing I found out to my cost is if you move the switch without the battery in, when you put it back in and turn it on it's done a hard reset and everything's gone.
You said the battery is charged but just to be sure, stick it in the charger slot on the stand for a while and try again. Putting a flat battery in by mistake has the same result as messing with the switch.
I dont know why it did it but i left it without a battery in for about 2 hours and put the battery back in, and now it works.
Hard reset as you would expect !
Hello there
Ok O2 XDA was working fine. Did the ROM upgrade and that seemed to go fine too, XDA booted fine after upgrade was able to use phone and all was working.
I then notice that the battery was running low so decided to put it on mains charge. Plugged it in but was not charging, battery level stayed at 5% even though it was left on charge for the whole night.
I then opened it up carefully to check for any loose connections to the battery ect (Was very carefull, broke nothing) put it back together and now it does not even switch on. Even hard boot does nothing, puting it on charge does nothing it is totally dead !!!!
Any ideas please
Thanks
Ok so I thought it might be the fuse so i soldered a wire accross the fuse points as per these forums.
I am not sure now if i have made it better or worse as at least now i get a red light on top right LED which i was not getting before, it was totaly dead before. Still nothing is happening when i put it on charge, nothing on screen at all, the only sign of any life now is the red LED.
Hello,
Last night I am charging my HTC Magician until 100%. Yeah, full. Then I unplug it from the cord. I've check the battery meter, 100%. Then I using it for some phone call, internet and sms. The remaining battery is 96%. But, I dont know why, myself is checking the meter again. It show charging !!! What? I am not plugging it into power cord! But the backup battery show "_Charging" ... hmm .. what does the underscore character meaning on the backup battery? It is never charged, I always look it 100%. Thinks it an error, I restart the device using psshutxp.
But, what? Still black screen?
Hm, then I remove the battery and reinsert again. Not turning on. OW ow...it seems bad. I retry remove and reinsert, same. Plugging the power charger, the LED turning on RED. Hmmm...on each battery, RED is initial charging, when battery discharged fully, hm?
BUT I'VE CHARGING until 100% approximate 45 minutes ago!!
Trying again to remove and reinsert the battery without power charger.
It turns on! Wow! BUT ...
I am using Cotulla HTCMAG_WWE_O2 rom. When we do hardreset, cotulla rom have a progress bar, written "Erasing...please wait" right?
AND IT APPEARS!
OMG, I think the PDA is 'restored'. Hey, PDA, I dont do reset!
Damn ... I've lost all of my SMS and contacts ... bad news ... But I have backup contacts via activesync so dont need to worry. About SMS? Yeah, they're gone. Then I sleep. Hmm...SMS messages collected since aug 08 lost just because of this f*cking battery.
This morning, I want to going to work.
Hey, the PDA is dead again!
Try remove and reinsert, then press power button, LED turn on with violet color! (i think it was the combination of bluetooth LED and red coloured LED).
Trying several times, and then turn on again. Restored again.
It seems the battery needs to replace (ABSOLUTELY...since got this PDA, it turn off when 28% battery).
THE END..
Will going to a store to find a replacement battery.
I am using Cotulla HTCMAG_ROM_WWE_O5 Rom.
When I charging my HTC Magician until 100% the LED never change to green color.
Anyone have same problem with me???
yes, mine too. may be it rom's problem.
sounds a lot like you have a dead battery, try getting a new one, that should fix the problem.
I've had batteries that did all sorts of crazy stuff when they were dying.
if batery voltage is going down to 3.2V or less that mean it dying? I looked with powerDetect and when battery remaining less then 30% voltage is going down. and if it is less than 3.1V My magician turn off and I should turn on again. If I try turn on phone on less than 10% my magician turn off too. So that mean I should change my battery?
I don't know bout voltages etc. but if your battery is not holding charge well and/or is shutting off suddenly (mine used to do it at around 40%), then it is time for a new battery.
I recommend this one http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.23962 (if you search magician you can also find the 1800mAh version.
the thing about these are they are fakes made by dealextremem, so they haven't been lying around for as long as some of the bateries on ebay etc.
on top of that they are really cheap with free shipping to boot.
but these batteries quality same than original? Because I don't want change battery or have explosion as I hear in news about other not original batteries
It is funny, people are beta testing a free stuff. Yet they complain like they've paid zillions for it. Sometimes those who complains most are those who intentionally sell Cotulla's works on their puny mobile phone shops. Instead of complaining, try contributing by experimenting on the software.
Keep it up Cotulla, Since you began the 6.1 you've been beaten and crucified for telling the world that it would work. Many thinks Cotulla is crazy and is dreaming. I salute one great Russian guy who once branded GAY and Crazy. Now he re written history, several times.
Let's just be thankful,
Salam.
you know, my battery used to turn off at 50%. because sometimes it uses it for backup battery so your data is not lost completely quickly. u should buy htc just like i did because the battery is very good. and by the way does anyone have a cooked rom for htc blackstone cause i want 2 upgrade it to wm6.5
This morning my HD2(7) was totaly empty. The power button did not do anything and the phone won't start up. When I hooked it up to the charger, the red led did not come up and the phone was not charged at all.
I tried to do a soft reset, but nothing happend. Some posts on this forum suggested a hard reset, but I did not want to loose all content on my phone.
It seems that the real solution is very simple. Just connect the phone to a charger, remove the battery completly and then place the battery back in the phone. The HTC will now start up and begin to charge.
So, just a waring, do not hard reset when you phone stops charging...
Cheers, Rene
Funnily enough I put my phone on charge last night, forgetting that I'd also switched it off... Came to it this morning and remembered about the charging issue when switched off. Tried to switch the phone on and nothing... So I went to change the battery with the wife's HD2, but managed to mix up the batteries and found that my phone would switch on afterall and it was also fully charged. The wife had her's on charge overnight as well, so both batteries were showing as being full...
Charging issue has been fix up in the MAGLDR 1.13 version

There is no doubt that this is sensible advice, but there may be an overlap with another issue here.
I have noticed - and it could just be specific to my phone - that if the phone gets to the point where it shuts itself down to conserve power, it will often not restart from the power on button and only pulling the battery will wake it up. This seems to be a 'feature' of WP7 on HD2.
Interestingly, on several occasions where the battery has been fully charged (and still plugged in) the phone will not start from power on if I do a shut down - I tried it less than an hour ago after making a couple registry tweaks and only pulling the battery would persuade a fully charged phone to restart. It would be interesting to know if others are finding the same.
Where the battery is seriously discharged, it can take several cycles of pull battery - boot phone - phone decides it has insufficient battery and shuts down - pull battery - boot phone...before WP7 decides it has had enough juice trickled back into it to be able to charge - sounds crazy, but there you go.
MAGLDR v1.12 doesn't support charging, which doesn't help. I'm going to try v1.13 to see if agarp is correct - here's hoping.
Update: I don't think MAGLDR113 supports charging directly but I believe it has something built in to prevent a plugged in phone running down the battery. Not sure about exactly what, but it suggests something about booting the phone if plugged in and battery is at critical levels.
