I am using Spb Pocket Plus and I would likt to add the Task Manager to it. But I cannot find the file for it in the Windows folder, which is where I thought it would be. Where is this file located?
spb pocket plus has a task manager built into it... what exactly are you trying to accomplish?
(assuming your using a Wing running the stock rom)
If you're trying to turn it on ... go to start, settings, system
and turn off the htc task manager that comes with the phone.
then go into the spb pocket plus settings, and turn the task manager on in there. I haven't used Pocket plus in a long time, so I don't recall the exact process, but it should be pretty straight forward.

Open an application, for example, Internet Explorer and then close it.
Next, check out the applications running in memory:
Settings-> System-> Memory-> Running Programs
Internet Explorer is apparently still running in memory! Is this a known bug and if so, is there a work around as I would expect this to affect the performance.
Also note this happened before and after the ROM 1.60 Upgrade.
it's been like that from the first version of windows CE
i suppose that because of slow cpu and mem
and such ms believed that keeping the applications running
would inc the response time of the pda so they would not
seem slugish compared to palm and other pda os's
This is a Windows Mobile 2003 'feature'
There are programs available to close the program down completely.
I have my personal favourite, by far, and is completely free. I can't remember the name of it and I'm currently updating my ROM, but as soon as that's done, I'll look in ActiveSync and let you know.

Certainly one of the thing's that I've found since the recent XDAII ROM update is that closing apps down via the Tast Manager has caused the OS to crash out with the message 'A unhandled error has occurred in the shell.' type message (has only happened a couple of times). The only way forward from this is a soft reset.

Hi,
How are you trying to exit the programs that this happens to ? It could be that instead of clicking what you think is the close button, you are actually clicking the Today Screen icon ?
As regards Task Managers, the best I have come across and use all the time is PocketNav. Here is a link for it.
http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html
This app allows you to see currently running programs and flip between them with ease. You can also close or close all programs from this menu too.
Hope this helps.
Rgds,
Rob.
WisBar Advance
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/wisbar
Highly recommended, very small memory footprint, very fast and highly customizable. Oh, and FREE. If you get it, make sure you download an XP skin. Don't use the bundled ones
EDIT: Just so you know, it doesn't officially support Phone Edition. To turn the phone on/off via the taskbar, you have to close WisBar to access the icon.

I'm just using the O2 Active Task Manager (the little arrow on the bottom of the screen) that comes by default with the OS (haven't got round yet to installing a decent Task Manager - will check out the suggestions made here!).

WisBar Advance is one of the better ones that I've used but I will not give PocketNav a go, as there is a HUGE problem with WisBar and the XDAII.
Once you recive a call and access a notification (missed call, SMS things like that). You will not be able to recive any calls after that, if you ring your XDAII from another phone it actualy rings on the other phone but the XDA II does not register the call at all (as though no call is even being placed!!!, no missed call, no error messages NOTHING!!!)
I loved WisBar untill I've narrowed the problem down of not reciving calls to uninstalling or exiting WisBar and doing a softreset and never had the problems again...
Most other task managers I've found seem to have problems with the Phone Edition, cannot hide the Phone ID Program, cant close the Phone after it has been opend, phone keeps ringing over and over a gain even though there is not incomming calls... all are a few problems I have found with other Task managers I've tried... I will give that PocketNav a go and see how it works with phone edition...
I have tested most task managers under Phone Edition and my conclusion is that SBP's Pocket Plus is THEone...
It actually let's you see the notification area just as it's meant to be and it let's you exclude applications so they don't close but minimize (perfect for IA_Caller_Id.exe)
Best regards,
Rayan
Do you know of any freeware ones that are worth while?
The PHM TrayLaunch Thread inspired me to look deeper into my Windows Folder. I have Spb Pocket Plus installed, the main reason is the SafeMode Option I get there.
Now I found a tool in my Windows Folder that is named SafeMode.exe which seems to be the tool that Spb Pocket Plus loads to get into SafeMode at boottime.
Now the tricky part, which I need help with. How do I add a service that is supposed to run at boottime in Windows Mobile 5 ?
Here is how Spb Pocket Plus SafeMode currently works:
1. I reset/boot my device
2. A popup comes up saying something like "Tap here to boot in SafeMode" - if I don't tap the popup it boots up normally, if I tap it it will boot in Safe Mode ( doesn't startup many services/today items, etc. )
Here is basically what I am trying to achieve:
1. Get rid of Spb Pocket Plus on my MDA VARIO ( QTEK 9100 )
2. Copy SafeMode.exe somewhere on the PPC
3. Have Safemode run at each boottime with the popup asking for SafeMode Boot/Normal Boot mode.
There is already a program called 'SafeMode' that does that.
And it doesn't come along with the mess of SPB P+...
Thats mCube Safe Mode - which don't work with Windows Mobile 5 !
AND as you can read I want to GET RID OF POCKET PLUS! But the Safemode.exe is only 17kb so that is the reason I am asking.
My gf and I just got 8525's. I've installed LOTS of stuff (resco and spb) on mine, and some stuff on her's. Hers has been locking up like crazy lately, so we took off all the spb and resco today plugins, and that didn't help. We are going to uninstall the PTT fix and the devicelock cab to see if that helps.
But is there any way to see what program is causing the hang!? Like an "event viewer" like windows has!?!?
Cause my phone is working fine, but whenever I go to "phone" under system, it hangs. I'm guessing it happens because I changed my ringtone DIR to my SD card. But I changed it back to /windows now, and it still hangs. I want to be able to get into it, but dunno what is messing it up. I also have SPB Phone suite, so I turned off the notifications and phone profiles thinking that might help, but no go.
PLEASE help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
try doing a hard reset.. it's in settings > system > clear storage
I know I could do that, but I'd rather not have to go through and reinstall all the programs. I'd rather just find out what program is causing the problems, so I know to uninstall it....

had same prob. Took out SPB and all is fine. I was running WM5 then ... and had lots of hang-ups ( Phone becomes disfunctional), I just recently updated to WM6 and I am having way better experience with my HTC 8525.
I was hopeing someone wouldn't say that
I have:
Spb Phone Suite
Spb Mobile Shell
and LOVE them....I really only use the Suite for notification reminders (like when I miss a call or sms, it reminds me every 5 mins) I also use resco explorer (today plugin).
But on my gf's phone, we already took out all SPB products, and it's still hanging. I guess I could run MemMaid to maybe clean up the reg or something....
I still don't know why hers would be acting up when mine has LOADS more stuff on it....
I installed a couple of programs over the last couple of days, Spb Weather and Launch Manager and when changing the setting or configuration the programs shut down and nothing changes??
Everything else is working on my wizard, has anybody else experienced this?
Both programs were installed on the storage card.
Spb weather has worked on my wizard before with no problems.

Hi Ixtana_ran, I developed Fantastic Bytes Launch Manager...
Could you describe the problem in more detail?
How much free memory and storage space do you have?
Are you running Windows Mobile 5 or 6?
Very strange... and I have tested Launch Manager on a Wizard before.
Hi Carolos, no need to worry the problem is with me mostly.
When adding new pages & shortcuts I was pressing the OK button top right of screen and nothing was saving? I have since found out that if I hold the right softkey it saves OK.
This is probably a side effect of task manager or what ever program I use to shut down programs instead of minimizing (not sure of its name,Doh).
Enjoying using your app, hoping it will allow me to get rid of SPB mobile Shell, Phone Suite to try and free some resources.

Great to hear you are enjoying Launch Manager.
Hi everyone, I have been following this forum for a while but this is my first question:
I am happy with the task manager that comes with our Hds but... it only shows the running programs when one is at the home page.
I'd really like to be able to switch task from anywhere (any running program).
Can this be achieved in any way? I would be happy if I could map a button with AEBPlus to perform it.
Thanks in advance
I am wondering about this too. I find i have to switch from program to another program quite often. Not having to go to the home page to switch would be a good thing for me.
Try PBar 1.5,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483771&highlight=Pbar+1.5
Yes, I have successfully used pBar in the past with other devices...
...but it seems like a bit of a pity that we have to install yet another 3rd party application (no matter how light it is) to do something that software that is already installed in our devices is (potentially) capable of, ain't it?
I have tried AEBPLus with no luck, more ideas?
Any solution so far? Does anyone know what's the command line for htc task manager?
I'd recommend magicbutton (freeware). Its always the first app I install on a fresh WM device. It works in any application that isn't "fullscreen". So if you can see the system menu at the top of the screen you can use it. Has an optional simple single pixel battery power meter on the top of the screen too that I always use.
