Hi everyone, I have been following this forum for a while but this is my first question:
I am happy with the task manager that comes with our Hds but... it only shows the running programs when one is at the home page.
I'd really like to be able to switch task from anywhere (any running program).
Can this be achieved in any way? I would be happy if I could map a button with AEBPlus to perform it.
Thanks in advance
I am wondering about this too. I find i have to switch from program to another program quite often. Not having to go to the home page to switch would be a good thing for me.
Try PBar 1.5,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=483771&highlight=Pbar+1.5
Yes, I have successfully used pBar in the past with other devices...
...but it seems like a bit of a pity that we have to install yet another 3rd party application (no matter how light it is) to do something that software that is already installed in our devices is (potentially) capable of, ain't it?
I have tried AEBPLus with no luck, more ideas?
Any solution so far? Does anyone know what's the command line for htc task manager?
I'd recommend magicbutton (freeware). Its always the first app I install on a fresh WM device. It works in any application that isn't "fullscreen". So if you can see the system menu at the top of the screen you can use it. Has an optional simple single pixel battery power meter on the top of the screen too that I always use.

Newbie here
I would appreciate a little input
Is there a way to minimise the windows so I can roll between apps ?
I have tried installing magic button as the local task manager keeps crashing but cant seem to get it to show
I have the Ericsson HbH-65 Headset and have noticed that it picks up every second call if I'm lucky
Thank you in advance
well a pocketpc application allways minimize when you close it
if you go into system->system->memory->running programs you can see which programs you have running
this is an ok pocketpc replacement of the taskmanager known from the pc
http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/
Open an application, for example, Internet Explorer and then close it.
Next, check out the applications running in memory:
Settings-> System-> Memory-> Running Programs
Internet Explorer is apparently still running in memory! Is this a known bug and if so, is there a work around as I would expect this to affect the performance.
Also note this happened before and after the ROM 1.60 Upgrade.
it's been like that from the first version of windows CE
i suppose that because of slow cpu and mem
and such ms believed that keeping the applications running
would inc the response time of the pda so they would not
seem slugish compared to palm and other pda os's
This is a Windows Mobile 2003 'feature'
There are programs available to close the program down completely.
I have my personal favourite, by far, and is completely free. I can't remember the name of it and I'm currently updating my ROM, but as soon as that's done, I'll look in ActiveSync and let you know.

Certainly one of the thing's that I've found since the recent XDAII ROM update is that closing apps down via the Tast Manager has caused the OS to crash out with the message 'A unhandled error has occurred in the shell.' type message (has only happened a couple of times). The only way forward from this is a soft reset.

Hi,
How are you trying to exit the programs that this happens to ? It could be that instead of clicking what you think is the close button, you are actually clicking the Today Screen icon ?
As regards Task Managers, the best I have come across and use all the time is PocketNav. Here is a link for it.
http://www.scottandmichelle.net/scott/cestuff.html
This app allows you to see currently running programs and flip between them with ease. You can also close or close all programs from this menu too.
Hope this helps.
Rgds,
Rob.
WisBar Advance
http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/wisbar
Highly recommended, very small memory footprint, very fast and highly customizable. Oh, and FREE. If you get it, make sure you download an XP skin. Don't use the bundled ones
EDIT: Just so you know, it doesn't officially support Phone Edition. To turn the phone on/off via the taskbar, you have to close WisBar to access the icon.

I'm just using the O2 Active Task Manager (the little arrow on the bottom of the screen) that comes by default with the OS (haven't got round yet to installing a decent Task Manager - will check out the suggestions made here!).

WisBar Advance is one of the better ones that I've used but I will not give PocketNav a go, as there is a HUGE problem with WisBar and the XDAII.
Once you recive a call and access a notification (missed call, SMS things like that). You will not be able to recive any calls after that, if you ring your XDAII from another phone it actualy rings on the other phone but the XDA II does not register the call at all (as though no call is even being placed!!!, no missed call, no error messages NOTHING!!!)
I loved WisBar untill I've narrowed the problem down of not reciving calls to uninstalling or exiting WisBar and doing a softreset and never had the problems again...
Most other task managers I've found seem to have problems with the Phone Edition, cannot hide the Phone ID Program, cant close the Phone after it has been opend, phone keeps ringing over and over a gain even though there is not incomming calls... all are a few problems I have found with other Task managers I've tried... I will give that PocketNav a go and see how it works with phone edition...
I have tested most task managers under Phone Edition and my conclusion is that SBP's Pocket Plus is THEone...
It actually let's you see the notification area just as it's meant to be and it let's you exclude applications so they don't close but minimize (perfect for IA_Caller_Id.exe)
Best regards,
Rayan
Do you know of any freeware ones that are worth while?
Hi,
I was wondering if any one has tried using a palm emulator on their Shift and if so which program. I tried running a program called styleTap on the Win Mobile side but o luck and the program just freezes up when opened. I am looking to run programs from a treo 680 which is one of the latest Palm software if I am not mistaken. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
It's possible
StyleTab (shareware) works on the Shift!
To get it working you need QuickMenu (free) once.
Install QuickMenu
Install StyleTab and YOU CAN'T REACH OK on the nag screen!
Open QuickMenu and turn screen right.
The StyleTab screen is completely displayed.
Goto Optons-display size and choose original.
Restart StyleMenu
Turn screen back to narmal orientation
(Delete QuickMenu)
Install all your palm apps but hacks.
Enjoy your original size IIIc on this big screen.
Start paying after 14 days...
re
Thanks man I am going to try this and post comments.
Turn screen BEFORE installing StyleTab or the WM side freezes...
But after a restart from Vista side you can still turn the page and start StyleTab again.
I like it as most programs work (NO hacks, NO DA files)
re
I tried this and now I can see the OK button but for some reason I cannot click on it?? any thoughts? Also which version are you using?
I use the pocket pc version from http://www.styletap.com/downloads.php
The smartphone version uses keys only!
At the moment I'm reinventing my IIIc on the Shift...

Hi,
That is the one I am using, but not able to do anything, for some reason the alignment is off too. If i want to click register I need to click way higher than where the actual button is. What other software do you have installed? any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Does somebody know why I cant get HomeScreen ++ started on Touch HD? The Installation works great but after this I cant activate HomeScreen ++ in settings->today->elements. Always when I check it and then press OK it wont save the settings. I am also not able to open the option menu of HomeScreen ++
HomeScreen ++ Version is: 1.06.347 build 0347
Does somebody know another app to display the battery status in percentage on the today screen?

IIRC SPB PocketPlus does that [displays battery life in % terms on today scr.] may be worth a go.
Whilst I seem to recall reading somewhere on here that someone had tried that prog. on the HD successfully, I have to admit I've not personally tried that particular prog. to see if it works, so can't vouch for it (SPB MobileShell *doesn't* work properly, that much I do know, so I'm a little retiscent to buy any more SPB stuff until they up their game. I would email SPB for some clarity, but from prior experience that achieves a deafening silence...)

With TF3D running, no other today plug in can be run, unless you use an application called secondtoday. This allows you to have a second today screen and hence allows you to have all your standard today pluggins running along side TF3D. If you install secondtoday and then add Homescreen ++ within the second todat application. it will work. THis is the exact setup that i am currently using.

Thank you very much for the answers!
Well then I think I will go with this solution (secondtoday).
Any help how to install it? (order in which the programms have to be installed)
Thanks in advance!
Use gestures!
I am not certain that second today is prerequisite for SPB Mobile Shell 2, since this can be invoked by making use of gesture. By installing SPB and calling it with gesture, it should work just fine. I have not tried on HTC Touch, as I am awaiting mine, but did ty on other HTC models.

Appologies, i was answering the question raised in the first post. I have no experience with mobile shell.
Yes of course - the SPB shell/plus progs involve the ditching of the TF3D option (which in truth I'm not that keen on anyway as it never really worked/performed that well on my Diamond [clunky and clumsy] - although....it does run considerably better on the HD I have to confess)
I know you just said so, but just to clarify, on both my Cruise and Diamond SPB MobileShell ran perfectly well without the need for any further program support - for some reason it doesn't on the HD, no idea why though (you lose anything on a 'drop-down' menu/option - so you cannot customise beyond the default settings.
Think I'll look into the setup just mentioned (secondtoday + homescreen++) - Cheers!
Just tried to install the "secondtoday.cab" but as soon as I click on it it says that the installation has failed. Do you know whats wrong? Did I miss something?
I used the last version of it.

Hi there,
I know this has been discussed over and over, but I cannot seem to find the answer without installing third-party applications:
I would like to have more items in the Start menu. Normally this wouldn't fit on the screen, but with the brilliant HD screen there can be at least 4 more.
Is there a way to do this without installing other applications. Can some registry-tweak help perhaps? Any help welcome!
Thanks in advance!
No one...?!
No one have the urge to have more startmenu-items too.?
I personally hate menu style of launching application. Tried such utility before on a VGA device, not sure if they still work on a WVGA device.
Small menu is one such program. It's free.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-smallmenu-3-19.html
I much prefer to use something like iLauncher, or SPB Mobile Shell. They are more finger friendly, and takes less effort to launch IMO.
I agree...
Yeah i agree, i have tryied a lot af different 3´rd party aplikations over the years but i allway turn back to SPB Mobile shell og SPB Pocket Plus
Thanx for all the kind replies..
But as I said, I do not want to install any third-party software. I Like the Startmenu as it is, I only would like to ad a few buttons.
Any one else have a tweak for how to do this?
Really no one wanting more items in the Startmenu?
Anyone who knows how this can be done?
(see the first post)
