Dear all,
1- I have I-mate Jam, my mobile re-start without any reason. I mean whenever I receive any call or even without touching any button, it restart. I'm afraid about it. Is it infected by any virus??
2- By mistake I add a folder name "patches" in my memory card, about 25 subfolder has been added automatically, now I can’t delete it. Is there any other solution than formatting my memory card?
3- Is there any possibility that any mobile show 165,315 (18.8 years countinuously) hours outgoing call duration?? I think it is very funny. Surly there is any problem.
Please help me....
Ali
Hi there,
1. It's very unlikely that that's caused by a virus. There's what, like only 4-5 viruses last time I checked? And they're all prototypes and pretty harmless. I'd say the problem lies with your battery contact plates. Try cleaning them with the usual contact cleaners.
Some people suggest adding a piece of paper between the battery and the base so as to improve contact, but I'm not sure how this affects the heat generated by the battery. Also, a loose battery cover may also cause periodic restarts.
2. Whats inside the subfolders? If there's a file in use inside it, then it'll probably be locked out. What file management software did you use to create the directory? I use GSFinder to browse my files, and that has never given me any problem with file management and deletion.
http://pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1203
3. Maybe you call out more than you realize ? Not sure about this, but then again I've never tried 2.03.
Hope this helps.
Hi
1- I was assuming these solutions; someone told me that it is due to weak battery, so I replaced it. Secondly I cleaned the battery contact plates, but I am afraid why my cell battery got so hot .... I don't keep any hot material in my cell . If it is due to any virus, can you suggest any effective antivirus?
2- All the subfolders are empty. Whenever I search anything in my memory card, my PDA got stuck n I have to re-start it. Is there any software which help me in formatting my card?
3- Can I clean my call history from my PDA?
Regards
Hi,
1. So cleaning the contacts didn't help? Well, make sure that your battery cover is secure, because loose battery cover happened to me once and I experienced random restarts. There's a latch near the battery that switches the power, if I'm not mistaken, and it's pressed only when the cover is put in place. I added some dry super glue on my cover and the problem went away.
I'd guess that the battery itself wasn't a problem, as weak batteries usually result in early shutdowns at 40% power or so. Be careful with hot batteries though. Low quality batteries can brick your phone permanently. Also, Li-Polymer batteries can catch fire when overheated. Make sure you only use legitimate, official batteries. It's much safer to use originals than one of those dodgy cheap ones on eBay.
If you're still looking for an antivirus, you may wanna try Avast PDA edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-pda.html
This one has a free trial. But not sure about the quality though, as I've never used this on my phone. But the Home Edition on my PC works perfectly.
2. What file explorer are you using? Have you tried GSFinder, Total Commander or other freeware file explorers that are available?
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?sortby=rating&cat=23
Have a look at this to try format the card:

Hope this helps.
Screen setting
Hi
Thanks for your useful tips. I tried them all and I was just tired but in vain. At last I bought a set of screw driver. I opened my cell (I don't recommend anyone to do so, because you can damage your cell) I opened it and find carbon ( very slight ) on different points ( can’t explain exactly where the points were because I don't have diagram of I-mate Jam ). I removed that carbon with thinner (It was very risky)
Someone was asking about screen resent problem on this forum. My cell also had the same problem. There is a bunch of wires coming from the back of touch screen, these wires fix inside a socket. There is a black color cover that fix the wires inside that socket. During mishandling that cover got loose, that's why my cell flickered some time. I had to reset the screen touch (which irritated me a lot). I fixed that cover and now my Jam works perfect.
As I said earlier, opening this kind of sensitive sets sometime damage your cell. My mobile mike is not working properly. I don't know where problem is.
I need help.
Ps. I need I-mate Jam circuit.

i have been searching here in Egypt for some parts i need to fix my PDA. i needed
1. the metal piece on the sync connector. {Shown Below}(this part is essential for the connector to be firm; without it; the connector will be lose and will cause the connetor to be disconnected from the borad!!!); offcourse this is really annoying. when ever i need to chrage the PDA; i put the battery in the auxilary slot located on the cradel (after i take a full backup ofcourse). when batteries are full; put them back; restore; set time/date. and so on.
2. Side slider button. (a very tiny part on the side the button used for volume leveling is broken) although it is not that important i can manage without it.
3. Speaker. (makes a really noisey sound when the PDA rings. i have tried to lower the volume but still noisey; i alos tried to clean the speaker).
yes it looks like the mainboard needs a replacement. i have also checked that metal part coating the sync connector is sold out on ebay. But could not find a complete mainboard. please if anyone has any ideas whatsoever please let me know i really need help. if anyone has a mainboard i can buy it.
Thank you...

most likely all htc devices use std components
try getting hold of the part nr's and check around

like here
it would be insane if it had special parts and anybody would stock sparepart fro all devices or even some
really bad business unless that person charged more then a new pda was worth
of cause you can get a broken one and canabalise it for spares too
Hi,
My S100 keeps hard reseting. It was working ok, until last week. Since then, it has hard reset 3 times now.
It happens randomly. I've formatted the SD card as well, in case the issue was card related. I don't know what to do...

Could it have anything to do with my backup battery?
I've noticed that I have no issues if it's connected to the power, but if my battery gets to half capacity, it's when my problems begin...
ALL help is welcome....
Hi got same problem ...unfortunately while using tomtom so i lose myself somewhere in between Austria,Switzerland and Germany....
so it reset many times even while phisically resetted...it didn't start any more for 10 min and then it starts properly...and again and again.....
noticed low internal battery....will change it (if i found the user manual) and i'll let You know the progress...
....small reply...i check in the User Manual but no idea on how to change and which is the internal backup battery....any suggestion ? ? ?...pls ?
up.........thnks
uh...well i have the same problem and i know why it happens...
It's just that the back cover has a small plastic notch at the bottom right side which must touch and push a small switch located at the bottom right (the switch is located just above the red plastic thing).
Since my back cover has a side plastic notch that is broken, sometimes the back cover gets a little bit loose, forcing the bottom switch notch to release that switch which in turn forces the ppc to sometimes reboot/hard reset.
Check if your back cover is Okey.

WOAH...got it....(i'll keep testing tomorrw while running somewhere in France....) is enough to force it with a ...."piece-of-something" placed there in case? or there are some other indications on "how to"??.....
say thanks anyway is always not enought......
yes...you can use whatever you like...(you can even glue it)
Honestely i don't know what was HTCs ideia of putting that dumb switch in there...
Regards,
Keeper
Yeah, that switch is pretty dumb and a waste of money. None of my newer HTC phones have that switch. I guess in more recent phones they realized it was a waste.
The switch was there for a good reason
Hi! The switch is there to turn off the phone when you open the battery cover. Remember, WM 2003 is based on volatile memory, so if the power goes out, all of your data gets deleted and the OS has to reload from flash rom. Anyway, to my understanding the switch has to do with not using the backup battery without the actual battery in there as the backup battery is strong enough to power the volatile memory but not the entire device. The solution I chose for my device is a piece of clear plastic tape running along the crack between the battery door and the camera housing. I attached the tape to the sides as well, and made sure to use the stylus to push the tape down between the grooves on the sides. Otherwise dust would get in right away and weaken the bond blah blah blah.
Summary: Tape on the battery cover, the switch was a good thing. All devices since MDA Compact run WM5, which is non-volatile memory based and is always stored no matter what.
Hi guys,
At first I decided to open up my Magician, to look for that "backup" battery.
Didn't find any.
Turns out, my hard reset problem is caused by my phone battery. The regular battery is wasted. So wasted that the phone cant hold the backup. I found it weird that the phone wouldn't hard reset if was kept on power. As soon as i unplugged it, it went bye bye.
I managed to test it with a battery from a friend, and as soon as he used my battery on his phone, the backup warning come up.
I don't wanna say that, in some cases, the back lid won't cause this problem.
In my case, thankfully I managed to sort out where the problem was.
Thanks!
It keeps hard resetting
Hi Guys,
i've tried all the above written tips and tricks; but, my magician still have the same problem, every time i removes my battery it goes hard reset and again i've to start from the scratch - align screen - then it installs the applications again and back to the square one.
previously it was ok and after a year and half of using it started going soft reset now and then itself - i gave it to a local services center, they said that it has a loose contact to the battery that's why it gets soft reset, so i got my battery connector replaced. it solved the soft reset problem, but now the bigger problem has come up - it goes hard reset every time i remove my battery.
one thing i've noticed - it never hard resets when i keep it connected with my charger or usb cable
any one has any idea why its happening...
well i would suggest that your backup battery is dead...
Keeper
that i've checked keeper it always shows 100%.
and all the time since i bought this i've never seen that thing moving from 100%,
ok just tell me is it possible to replace the backup battery?
Well, i doubt it...all this stuff is really small...honestely i don't even know where is the backup located at, in the pcb... (photo of the pcb is in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/files/naked-magician-insane.jpg)
I would suggest that you should go to a repair center and ask them for a repair cost budget...that way you'll be informed what exactly is wrong with your pda...
Keeper
webshocker, if you want to try and replace your backup battery, check the photo in attachment that i've made...
It seems that it ain't that hard to replace it...

My HTC Universal says the SIM Card cannot be found or is missing, which of course is not true. I have tried with several SIM-Cards, but none of them work better. The error message appears as follows: Sometimes the phone connects to the network, but then suddenly the connection is cut off.
I bought a second-hand device, but before I jump to any conclusions I would like to rule out whether:
-it could be related to a radio upgrade
-it could be related to the SIM-Lock removal
-it could be related to a ROM-Upgrade
I am using Radio 1.18 and maxstegi's ROM 4.7.
Besides, I would like to know where to fix the device. It was originally a T-Mobile MDA Pro, but now that their software isn't any longer installed, they would probably refuse.
Thanks in advance
Michael
I had the same problem with mine. I eventually solved it by playing a hot-air rework blower over the radio chips, It's a bit of a drastic job, but it worked for me.

i had the same problem .. and i tried another solution .. i got a dry magnetic head spray cleaner and i sprayed the whole mother board connectors .. it worked as a start with me and i am waiting if it will remain good or will happen again ..
3 days now and my xda didn't give the sim card message - my problem solved
Great idea. I'll try today!
Sorry..but..for "dry", what do you mean? Is it the isopropyl alcohol based liquid?
i mean dry that it does not leave any traces on sprayed place after a while .. some other magnetic cleaner sprays leaves an oil layer over the sprayed area ..
ask in your location for a magnetic head spray cleaner and i am sure you can found one easily
it is now about 1 week and i had no problems
thanks

Hi aym_louis "big mind"!
Yesterday I immediately went to buy the spray "deoxide for contacts" instead of "magnetic heads cleaner". It was not the kind that also protect the contacts, so it doesn't leave the oil layer on them.
Well...I opened the mda pro, sprayed all over the motherboard and waited for 20 mins. I inserted the sim and didn't work....at first!
I tried after some more time, and it worked, and kept working 'till now...thing that never happened before! Maybe it needed more time to deoxidate the mysterious contacts.
Really good idea! You solved a big problem, in a easier and more secure way, compared to the hot hair flow!
Weeel done!
thanks dear .. any time

Yes problem solved
Hey Guys,
I also have this problem for a long time and I'm using another device now..
to summarize:
1. I need a magnetic head cleaner? not contact cleaner?
2. Which chip should I spray? on which side of the MB?
3. Should I go the "hot air blower" route at all?
It's a really annoying problem!
Thanks,

I've got the same problem, and I've tried yuor solution but it doesn't work for me.
I've used a dry magnetic head spray cleaner on the motherbord (front and back) but the problem is the same ..Sometimes SIM Card is missing..
I noticed that if the settings of the phone (Band) I force GSM (not Auto) error occurs less frequently..
any Idea?
It worked great!!!
Just tried the dry magnetic head cleaner spray and all I can say is it WORKED GREAT on my Uni, which was displaying that «Invalid or missing SIM card» annoying message!!!
I disassembled the unit completely (this included removing all the inner metallic "shields" fitted to both sides of the mainboard), sprayed the mainboard on both sides repeatedly and quite abundantly and allowed it to dry for an hour.
On the first reboots it kept getting stuck on the 1st splash screen, so I waited for another hour, for it do dry completely.
I then performed a hard reset on the Uni(t).
It simply worked. My SIM card is now recognized again.
I'm on my 4th reboot since I've reassembled it and the OS loads completely, I've reinstalled the software applications I lost after the hard reset and my SIM card keeps being recognized by the Uni and allowing me to make / receive phone calls & text messages.
Thanks a lot for the hint.

congratulation on your WORKING mobile
Hi Guys,
For what it's worth i have exactly the same problem on my G3 device. I used Servisol Video 40 from www.maplin.co.uk which is a tape head/disc drive cleaner, and it says on the can that it "removes tape oxides and dirt". I removed the shields around all the qualcomm chips and covered the MB, let it dry in sunlight (took 10 mins), reassembled and the problem is still exactly the same, i.e. this method DID NOT work.
For those of you who DID get this to work it would be very useful to know EXACTLY what cleaner you used.
It would also be helpful to know how 'permanent' the fix was, and if anyone else has tried what I have and succeeded or failed?
Many thanks for the helpful posts, if I can get this solution to work it would be awesome. If not then it's onto the rework station and who knows what then.
Cheers,
Appy
I am suffering from the exact same problem; can those of you who fixed this horrendous issue by spraying your motherboards, could you please confirm that your devices are still free of that "missing sim card" error. And what brand of spray did you guys use? If at all it makes a difference.
Thank you.
I cannot find anything in stores remotely similar to "dry magnetic heads cleaner spray" if you guys know the brand name of this product or an alternative, please post your replies.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
found contact/head cleaner at the source; sprayed once then tested, it didn't work. Sprayed second time then tested, it didn't work either but managed to keep the phone alive without loosing the sim for a few hours. I guess will be spraying the third time in a few days...
If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to share.
I have Dopod 818 Pro..
Suddenly, my SD slot isn't working, I already soft reset, Hard reset, Upgrade ROM from WM5 to WM6.1. Nothing is working,
so does the bluetooth. Everytime i enable the BT, its back to disabled.
My prophet is never dropped or damaged. it happened suddenly.
Any idea for solutions??
Same fault here. All was working OK, then it seriously corrupted an SD card to the extent that it can no longer be read by anything (I've not tried it with an other one yet). Also, Bluetooth will not switch on. The busy icon appears and it spins for 20 seconds, then just returns to OFF.
Radio rom downgraded back to 2.19.21
Hard SPL'd to 2.g4.4pda
Same fault in all WM5, 6 and 6.1 roms tested
*This began to happen _after_ I took the thing apart to clean and investigate the LCD high pitch whistle* Something has not bee put back correctly
Are there any images of the inside with significant items such as BT aerial etc highlighted? I need to get in there and look for bad connections.
I've fixed my BT problem (touch wood).
When reassembling the pda, the aerial panel surrounding the camera and speaker, was not put back into place correctly. There are three separate aerials on it.
Looking at the panel assembled in the phone, there is a small strip aerial to the right hand side, this has a single leg that extends down to contact a pad on the pcb. I'm guessing that this is the BT aerial by process of elimination
The leg got bent when removing the panel and did not make contact when reassembled. I also noticed that over tightening the two top screws will deform the panel and cause similar problems.
I now have working BT and the SD card reader has not caused any further problems.
wll, ive never open the PDA, and it happened suddenly. Im afraid to open the whole prophet to check whats goin on in there..
i0i, can you please explain me again step by step, by using picture? so i can understand completely of what you said ..hopefully i can rescue mine thanks
There is a good guide to taking apart the Prophet over at Modoco, the link is in the Prophet wiki. Otherwise there is a link to the service manual here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385944
It contains good photos and instructions. Like I said, my identification of the BT aerial is not 100%, it is only a guess based on things that work and don't work. I would not want to post photos with arrows that might be wrong. If you take it apart and look at the aerial panel then my description should be pretty clear.
Reading through the Service Manual and some posts in this forum it appears that battery voltage might be an issue with some of the more "mechanical" functions of the Prophet. Checking your battery for low voltage might be a wise step before cracking open the case. All kinds of bits ping off and it never goes back together absolutely correctly
Hello everyone! I have problem with my phone because sometimes is turning off without any reason, I bought brand new battery and is still same when is switched off and I want to put it back on i must take off battery for couple of minutes, then put battery back and then switch on anybody know whats happened?? And how to fix it!!
It's the most standard problem with htc models touch and elf...
This problem is hardware based! in this condition there are only 2 things you can do:
1.send the device to a htc service center and get the motherboard changed for $300+ if you are out of warranty.
2.Or open the mobile and put a piece of thin plastic in between the omap prosessor chip and the steel piece tha goes over it and then put the second cover on top in order to apply pressure to it because the solder pins that are in between the cpu and the mobo are not connecting properly and lose contact so the phone goes off or freezes then goes off and some times stays off. Make sure that there is enough but not to much pressure applied to it! it worked for mine but i did it because it was out of warranty... its a temporary fix but if you are gentile to it after it will surely work for a few more months...
IF YOU HAVE NEVER DONE SOMETHING LIKE THIS BEFORE OR YOUR TOUCH/ELF IS STILL IN WARRANTY DO NOT TRY IT!
I will post a pic that i took when i did mine if anyone is interested... Let me know...
Thanks for reply!
Uff.... first way to fix it is a little bit too expensive! And 2 way to do it seems quite easy, so i try to do it this way Could you add any picture of this and just tell me how to open this phone?
Many thanks!
@Firestarter42
Thanks man!!!!
did what you said, the plastic trik, and the phone is back to life (it was totally dead and didn't charge) you save a life today!!!
I had the same problem untill one day when he didn`t want to turn on and now i do not know what to do with it how to make it work again
Dear Sir,
I have just tried method 2.

Thanks a lot again.
I haved the same problem.....and i realize after many times that I didn't change my ipl and uspl!!!so my cocked rom frequentely turn off my device!!!now it's all right!!!!!!!
i had the same problm too....
it kept turning off and just a few weeks ago it would never turn on...
i did try that trick of keeping the plastic thingy on the omap processor ... it worked for a few weeks max after tht it happened as above
finally took my phone to htc.. told them it was gift and i dont have the invoice... actually purchased frm ebay for 150$ .....
they checked it was in warranty,.. they replaced the board... hurray... my elfin is alive again.. and in wm6.1
hope htc fixes this crap issue as many face this problem
My HTC elf was freezing, rbooting and so on, i was thinking that it was a windows/flash/third party programs problems ....
BUT I confirm that the method "open the mobile and put a piece of thin plastic in between the omap prosessor chip and the steel piece tha goes over it"
brings my htc elf to life again ... stable !
(i've done it with a metal piece and not plastic.)
Thanks for the advice !!!!
my elf was freezing and turning off so i try this 2. method and it works, and elf is much faster then before in my case...
I've never had this problem before but this week my phone switched itself off (so had to boot up again) a couple of times. I did try a new custom rom but I've also been using a different charger (USB mains adaptor) and a replacement battery (this seems to be a poor replacement battery which seems to make up the battery level.
So I don't know what was causing it. For some reason, removing the SD card and re-inserting it seems to have done the trick for now but I'll keep watching it.
Hi guys
My phone is, usually at night when there is no use, switching the screen off, the earphone green indicator flashes but the phone will not turn on when I press the power button, I have to do a soft reset each time to get it back on again (even though it appears to be on with the flashing green light). I cannot get calls or text and my alarm fails to sound. Have overslept a few times now!. Also, its battery has gone for a ball of ^&*%. Will this trick help? Thanks a lot!
Turn off as in literally 'poof!' or, it will restart?
The only way to get it to restart is to do a soft reset, or remove and replace the battery. The phone's green light will flash but there is no way to the screen to activate or use the phone - make calls, use the alarm, receive etc. The screen stays black, no use trying the power button either...

power problem on Elf (not the usual)
hello guys, i have an Elf T-mobile that someone "lost" i found it, but was bricked...i unbricked following the awesome guides on the forum and installed on it the original italian rom (obviously am not german)
but...here's the problem, when i press the power button (should get it into stand by mode like every pda does) or also when goes on stand by itself, just shuts down !!!
then the pda auto soft resets, until the end...doesn't have the "auto power off problem" like i readed on the forums...however it tried but didn't solve the problem
i think is a problem with the radio, or the IPL or SPL (i tried 1.11.0002 IPL and 1.11.000 SPL...then 2.2x.xxxx IPL and SPL...now i tried 3.14.0002 IPL and 3.14.0000 SPL, also tried different radios...
but the problem remains...
EDIT: Problem solved, changed the little battery in the motherborad, it worked for me

I'm presuming you mean for option 2, as 1 is quite obvious
Anyways, I haven't done this, but I am posting my best guess (untried, untested, just a theory).
Open your phone up and completely dissamble as described here. Completely strip it down so you only have your mainboard. Clearly take all the necessary precautions before hand (backup, etc etc.)
When done, you will see there are blank shields above where the chips will be, if you look, you can see little dimples, you can ease these off here. This will get you into where the omap processor is. You can then put the plastic on top, and make sure it is done as described. Should literally be a case of putting it all together and hoping for the best after that. I will have a look at some point (can't promise when) and see if I can take some photos of where this will go etc.
An alternative would be to try and reflow the joints of solder with a heat gun... very dangerous considering how tight the components are packed in, and overkill.
