Voice and Data at the same time - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hey guys I currently have an 8125 and i'm looking at upgrading to an 8525 since they AT&T has upgrades on there website for around 75 dollars. I wanted to know other then the benefit of 3g spend is it possible to use data and be on the phone at the same time using an 8525? that would be my main reason for upgrading.
Thanks

Nope not possible on the Tytn's

okay that's what i figured
but this would be possible on the tilt right?

Actually you can. I'm making this post thru Internet Sharing while listening to my voicemail. Unless I didn't understand the question?

My understanding of this, data and voice at the same time, on a hermes is that is is possible, but only if one is making use of 3G. A GSM/GPRS/EDGE only area will not allow for both at the same time.

Would this be possible, Vonage on Cingular 8125

Would it be possible to only use medianet unlimited with Vonage, and dump cingulars over priced voice plan. I mean, being that Vonage operates soely on your internet connection, why wouldn't it work on medianet or Cingulars PDA plan, vica versa. Pitcure it, you get unlimited calls to US and Canada, all the goodies like call waiting, three way calling and caller I-D, all for $29.95. That beats out Cingulars 450 daytime, 5000 night and weekends, for $39.95 any day.
So, is it possible? And if not, why?

I don't think that it would work because I believe Vonage is VoIP which is kinda like skype and the GPRS network isn't fast enough for that. Feel free to correct me (anyone?) if i'm wrong though.
But what about edge, wifi, or 3G. Wouldn't those be fast enough?

edge is the same as GPRS, its the cellular data network. Edge I don't believe is fast enough. Wifi is fast enough, but you have to overclock your phone in order for it to actually work well...or at all. Not sure what 3G is, so I can't comment on that.
It's theoretically possible. There's a version of SJPhone that works with Vonage and runs on the WM5. All you need is a soft phone on your vonage acct and SJPhone should be able to connect over GPRS or WiFi.

Can you elaborate on this a little more. What exactly is soft phone?
A softphone costs $10/mo on your Vonage account and works with software on your PC. The Vonage interface device isn't required. Every time you connect to the internet with your PC, no matter where in the world this is, your softphone number is available. SJPhone is software that runs on WM5 that allows you to connect to your softphone number on Vonage in the same way.
Alright I have the software SJPhone, I found the beta version for WM5. And I am sure that even before I install it that there will be some configuration required for vonage.....
I have gone and google'd..... These look like the setup instructions....
http://www.engadget.com/2004/08/31/how-to-use-a-pocket-pc-pda-as-a-wifiphone/
Cingular is one step ahead of you... Kind of. There was an article about 2 weeks ago and cingular said they don't mind that people are using VOIP on their network. But Edge isn't fast enough. I have Skype on my device and running it via Edge is worthless, so get yourself a Hermes adn move to a 3g(umts) city and Voila, your golden!
I just got back from houston and they're selling the HTC TyTn for $1,099.99. You can get it on ebay for $779.99 with 29.99 shipping from Cali.
I have activated a vonage softphone but I am having trouble with the configuration. If anyone had some light to shed on the subject that would be great. The guide I am looking at looks like it is just about to turn 2 years old.
IT WORKS!!!!!!!! well I initialized a call I can't really test it though cuz the wife is sleeping and if I make the phone ring too much she'll get peeved. The above configuration is good, just don't bother with the proxy stuff just put the domain in..... i followed their screens just a little too well.
what connection u using it on?
The only issue with SJPhone I saw was, like skype, it would be "speakerphone only". I'm guessing GPRS would be fine for the connection if you use a low speed audio codec.
Well I lied i made 1 phone call and that was it it doesn't work now I don't know what i did
Is this any help?
SJLabs: Vonage on Pocket PC thread
Very helpful now I no longer recieve the "Nat/Firewall" Error. Thanks for the info. I will do more testing during the day tommorow and I will post my results. I am currently using a T-Mobile MDA with the new OEM firmware update.
I talked with the wife for 45 mins while using wifi, I used the headset supplied with the phone because I have not figured out how to incorporate my Moto H700 with it, but otherwise it was great. The edge at my house is only so-so, therefore I will say that using this with edge so far has been impossible. When I go to work tommorow I will let you know if it works better where I know there is 100% edge, and when I am not on the fringe of a network.
Theory into practice it would seem. Nicely done matrix849! I'd always wanted to try this but never really had the time to spare.
Seems as though the tytn would be the best way to really test if this would be absolutely possible. I mean with its 3G technology and all.

GPRS (data) calls between WM6 phones

Hello all,
This is my first post here...I have a TYTN, and am looking at ways to call another tytn phone(or any wm6 actually) through gprs, so to use the charge per meg and not the phones charge per minute. Ive tried with Fring and skype mobile, both give terrible delays. Is this at all possible through GPRS/EDGE? (I dont enable 3G cos local provider having issues atm).
Is there no specific application for two WM6 phones to communicate using GPRS? Can anyone recommend any other applications to test?
Thanks in advance,
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I been looking and didnt find anything..

Read it from Skype.

Yes, you do need 3G for Internet calling. However, you can always turn to Wifi for Internet calling. Regardless you have WM5 or WM6, GPRS/EDGE just doesn't have enough bandwidth for VoIP.

EDGE has plenty of bandwith for VoIP, in particular if you use GSM codec. Just the latency isn't great, but it will do.
So if Skype doesn't work, consider SIP.
gprs dont connect 2 phones
it's only a internet connection
it's transparent to both devices if
they talk to a phone or a pc
the only way 2 phones maybe can talk data with eachother is the
old data gsm which is limited to 9600Kboud which is much much slower then even gprs
SIP internet calling etc
Can someone help me please. You know the internet calling option on WM6, how for the love of money do you use it. I got skype which i use but i got no idea what this internt calling option is for because i dont know how to use it. HELPPPPPP PLEASEEEEEe
Internet calling is for using witha SIP server such as FWD or an inhouse Asterik/LCS box.

Running Blackstone on T-Mobile in UNITED STATES

(MODS PLEASE MOVE TO APPROPRIATE FORUM IF NEED BE)
Hey guys, I finally got my Blackstone wednesday and have been messing with it since then. I am currently out of town but when i get back, I plan on opening a T-mobile contract to run the phone on. I chose them, because, A) i can get a good deal on a contract with MYFAVES, INTERNET, HOTSPOTS, and TEXTS, and since i am not a big talker, the MYFAVES would work for me and B) AT&T is just too [email protected] expensive for me. My questions is, for those who are using the HTC TOUCH HD on T-mobile, of course besides the lack of 3G like everyone is stating, how is the internet browser. A friend of mine runs his HD on AT&T, but I cannot afford a big plan, without a MyFaves type option. Post up experiences only if you are running the HD on T-Mobile. Thanks
I'm currently using the HD on T-Mobile. I like it. No US 3G means doesn't matter if its AT&T or T-Mobile, you can't get 3G for either. I running off of T-Zones and the speeds are barable. I don't do heavy surfing when I'm outside of WiFi but I do push my e-mails and occasionally check up on my bookmarks. So far, so good.
Oh and before you sign up, check up www.freelancersunion.org .... if your a member you get a 10% everyone and nice perks on phones... like oh lets say 140 for G1 or free blackberrys... Good luck!
Just remember your already going to be stuck on edge.. And T-Mobiles edge speeds are much slower than AT&T's.
Thanks alot guys for the input. I really do not do much video streaming but do use the internet for email and occasionally checking and replying to forums. If i get the T-ZONES which would allow me to use WIFI im sure i can catch a signal somewhere. I just want to keep this bumped for more input
I generally get speeds of around 150Kb with EDGE and browsing works fine. Streaming YouTube automatically adjusts the image size depending on the bandwidth. I get full screen with WiFi and about 1/2 with EDGE. I occasionally get an "insufficent bandwidth" message on EDGE, but that's rare. It would be nice to have 3G, but T-Mobile is really taking their time putting out a decent PPC phone and 3G is only in some large cities so far. By the time they put out a device like the Touch HD and install 3G in my city, maybe I'll buy another phone, but for now I'm really happy with it.
I have been using mine onf T-Mobile for a while now. No complaints what so ever. Once you choose Touch HD to use in the US. You have lost the option of 3G anywayz. So why think of ATT and its huge pice plans. I am not entirely sure about ATT EDGE being faster than T-Mobile. But I am pretty happy with my EDGE speeds on T-Mo. Browsing is fast enough, I can even watch YouTube vdos through edge.
You always have WiFi which is much faster than 3G. I am using mine with Cooked ROMs from here and I am enjoyin every bit of it with no regret.
for the ones that got TMobile and the HD. what internet plan do you have?
what are the settings on the phone?
are your guys MMS fast?
i dont get mine for a couple days.. but maybe cuz i haven't set up any internet connection?
when you called tmobile did you just ask for tzones?
thanks for the help..

Well, as far as the settings go, I just stuck my T-Mobile Sim and it automatically detected it and configured everything including MMS
The speeds arent that bad, you have to remember that most people view only a dozen or so sites regularly that's the whole idea behind cashing pages.
But even besides that the speeds are not that bad. Opera is really good at rendering pages. I thought I would not be able to deal with it coming off the G1 but I barely notice to be hones with you.
I can do a screenie of my t-mobile setting for my g1 there were a bunch of Access points that I didn't know exsisted. there are like a dozen or so, you can try to configure those manually to see if you can purge faster speeds and report back.
I don't have it with me right now, but if yo PM me I'd be more than happy to do so
I hope this helps.
Peace!
your settings should automatically be detected but the default address is usually wap.voicestream.xxxx . all I did was let it auto detect and change both tmobile data and tmobile mms to epc.tmobile.com I heard the epc is faster than the wap. try that.
No problems in the USA
I have been with TMo in the USA for 4 years and have nothing but good things to say. Great coverage (I am an airline pilot and the means a lot!) and great plans. My previous phone was the JasJar (HTC Universal) and it was stuck with GPRS only so Edge has been a nice, surprising speed boost that is very acceptable for browsing, Google Maps etc. While it is true that Edge won't let me stream the max quality videos from YouTube, I don't think I am missing much by not having 3G. Using my WiFi connection at home is only a substantial benefit when I want to download a large file, which I almost never do.
The HD and Tmo have a great working realationship.
Regards,
Gordo
i mean.. what are the tzone settings.. and i ask for tzone.. pay 5.99 or whatever.. and i can do youtube? opera? weather? and everything?
is that possible?
how?

I'm looking for this as well. I have a download that I used for my Kaiser. Is this the same one?
i dont know.. this is my 1st WinMo phone.. no one gives an exact answer =/.. does anyone know?
I'm finding T-mo with their data plan (2G) quite bearable: I don't even try streaming media, it would be pure frustration, but is fine with wifi (faster than 3G anyway).
Search/Google "T-mobile T-zones youtube and internet access". You'll find the default settings will allow you to access only T-mo's T-zones content. There have been some port configuration hacks posted over the last couple of years, but T-mo may have plugged those up by now.
I look at it this way.... I just spent, what $750 on a phone, another $19.00 for the data plan isn't going to make a damned bit of difference. If you got yours cheaper, consider the difference as free data for a while.

I have been using TMobile for years without any problems and if you have problems they have great Tech support. BTW ' epc ' did not work on my HD
for a data connection.
Awesome thanks guys for your replies. I order my phone and plan for T-mobile today thru Telesales with a major discount i got. Will have it overnighted to me and should hopefully have my phone and plan by tuesday.....so that means that the BLACKSTONE should be running then....majorly excited!!!!

Core Cell V3 and Latest T-Mobile ROM Comparison

Ok, here's a few experiences, not a complete comparison.
First, I noticed when I flashed the new tmobile ROM I can both surf the net and talk on the phone. Same applied when I had my PS3 hooked up for network activity...can also talk without data loss.
Now, when I go back to flashing Core Cell I no longer can talk and surf the net on my HD2. However, I can talk and have my PS3 connected without network loss? Also, I get this nagging "memory loss" prompt in Opera far to often.
So, with this said. My question to you smart phone guru's is...Is there some sought of modification via software that controls phone talk and data activity to work simultaneously? Cuz I know for a fact it simply works. Not sure if it's intentional or what, but I got use to it and want it in Core Cell.
Oh, how can I fix Opera issue?
Thanks.
Not a single one of you braniacs got input?
why not post this in the core cell thread where you might get help
Not being a douche would help too. Seriously, you waited one day.
I've posted in the past within that thread...stop getting answers...
Oh...and f#ck you...not being a douche....Refreshed the thread...there has been several times where questions go unanswered. Just don't want the thread to vanish to the bottom of the list without a good chance of an answer coming through.
You have to excuse me...I'm not built to eat sh#t....

Workaround

I found a way around the no data while on a phone call. This works on LP but not sure on MM. Activate the download booster and you're good to go!
Is this not new?
It looks like you're connected to wifi in those pics. Data works while on the phone if you're connected to a WiFi router.
you are smoking a lot of weed ajaj if was like before you are in a call receive internet was wonderful days i haved a lg f7 you can call and browse internet

to you why
The older phones had two CDMA radios put in them (such as the S3 on Sprint). One dedicated to voice -- another dedicated to data. Therefore you could do voice and data. GSM has always been one radio .. because that one radio can do both tasks at the same time. They got around it on CDMA by simply adding another radio in there and dedicating each one to one task.
Now a days they're getting rid of that second CDMA radio. So therefore you can only use talk, or data -- not both at the same time. Now if you're using VoLTE it will allow voice and data since the call will be going through LTE (as data) and .. data will be data. So it is technically then all data.
