Ok, here's a few experiences, not a complete comparison.
First, I noticed when I flashed the new tmobile ROM I can both surf the net and talk on the phone. Same applied when I had my PS3 hooked up for network activity...can also talk without data loss.
Now, when I go back to flashing Core Cell I no longer can talk and surf the net on my HD2. However, I can talk and have my PS3 connected without network loss? Also, I get this nagging "memory loss" prompt in Opera far to often.
So, with this said. My question to you smart phone guru's is...Is there some sought of modification via software that controls phone talk and data activity to work simultaneously? Cuz I know for a fact it simply works. Not sure if it's intentional or what, but I got use to it and want it in Core Cell.
Oh, how can I fix Opera issue?
Thanks.
Not a single one of you braniacs got input?
why not post this in the core cell thread where you might get help
Not being a douche would help too. Seriously, you waited one day.
I've posted in the past within that thread...stop getting answers...
Oh...and f#ck you...not being a douche....Refreshed the thread...there has been several times where questions go unanswered. Just don't want the thread to vanish to the bottom of the list without a good chance of an answer coming through.
You have to excuse me...I'm not built to eat sh#t....

Yes i know must of you are probably growning at this question, but I could not find any similar posts.
Does the UK T-Mobile Artemis have WiFi hardware? And if so can it be enabled with hack?
Thanks for your help, its going back to tmob if I cant have wifi.
You seriously couldn't find this question asked before!!!!!!
No, it has no WiFi hardware, so no you can't enable what isn't there.
The trade off, is that we get dirt cheap GPRS that we can use anywhere, rather than hunting around for free hotspots.
Both would be nice, but I wouldn't give up my T-Mobile account for anything.
Guess I must have been putting in the wrong search strings?
Anyway, thanks for the fast reply.
I had wifi on my prophet and to be honest never used it. You wouldnt leave it on as it would drain the battery within hours. Also when you turn the device off the wifi also disables. If it didnt the battery wouldnt last a day.
The bad side is when you turned it on to do anything quickly the thing lagged while it tried to connect and do its thing. If you controlled it manually... well it was just more trouble than good and I never used it. Would have loved 3G though instead.

Web 'n' Walk is not quick but it is there where and when I want it and can happily live with a few seconds longer download times. My other half will be ditching Orange to join T-Mobile when her contract is up shortly
i just got the data plan (i got it for free until the 20th) and i really like it...i've relied on wifi throught all my ppc's and it's served well, but it sux being in an area not finding an unsecured connection...anyways, does anybody know how i can keepw wifi alive when i turn my display off? that's wat i love about the data plan, it keeps the internet on EVEN when the display is OFF...i couldn't get this to work on my 8125 and now not on my 8525..can anybody please help me fix this!!? thnx
anybody?.....
Didn't I reply to this already? Was it in another subforum?
EDIT: Oh yeah now I remember... your the guy that made way too many posts over in the cingular forums... did you get banned?
Don't forget to look at what I posted already about the keep internet sharing on and wifi... have a look around.
And also you can dupe ATT and get the MediaMax plan for 20 bucks if your willing to only use wap.cingular. saved me a ton of money
EDIT#2: yeah here's the other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341930
uhhh i never read that other post...maybe if you had better directions (or didn't even that answer the question at all) that woulda been better....no need for being stupid now buddy

i said i saw it befor smart guy...and thnx for the compliments
Ok. I feel better. Guess we got off on the wrong foot.
What I am trying to say is that it might be possible to use the mortscript program to keep the wifi from going into standby:
"Share&KeepSharingViaUSB.mscr" Mortscript
This script is included in the attached .zip file To use this script you must first download and install MortScript from here:
http://www.sto-helit.de/index.php?mo...=view&entry=65
or here:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1448
This is an adaptation of Xiou's Share&KeepSharing script.
It turns off Wifi radio, starts hacked version of Internet Sharing app, connects and turns WiFi radio on. Once one valid connection has been made, reconnects if Internet Sharing enabled status status changes to disabled (ie. a disconnect occurs). Also, keeps device from going into standby mode, to prevent loss of WiFi connectivity.
It's heavily documented so it should be fairly easy to view, modify and understand by looking at it in a text editor.
.....
So, it might, and I stress might, be possible to use this to keep your phone in a constant state of wifi. However you might not be able to put your phone to sleep.
It applies to internet sharing but could be applicable to your problem.
It might be a hardware issue where the wifi chipset is forced into disconnecting while sleeping.
Seems like when the HTC guys engineered this that they knew the wifi would kill the battery life so they hardwired it to disconnect when put into standby.
It looks like it's not easily done (looking here and at cingular forums). Perhaps the guy at cingy that said to untick the auto disconnect might have a lead.
However I am a genius, but only at the minimum IQ score..
Good Luck
lol kk, thnx for ur help but i think i'm convinced that i shouldn't keep it on as it does seem to waste battery power..thnx for ur help and srry for acting a bit off
just wanted to thank intrglctcrevfnk for the tip about the mediamax bundle. Just added that 19.99 plan to my account, configuered the phone and now have unlimited access.
I was running JF's 1.51 but needed to downgrade to RC29. Now that I've done so I can't get internet and therefore can't get past the sign up stage.
I've searched the forums THOROUGHLY and can't find a solution. Please don't delete my post.
I realize there's a post detailing how to skip this sign in step. Because I can't change the settings of my phone it wont work for me. I need to know if anyone has run into this problem and what are some possible causes. My APN settings are correct. I even have the EDGE network internet icon on the phone, and it looks like there is some activity, but I cannot connect to Google servers.
PLEASE help, I'm kind of new to this and maybe jumped in too quickly, but the first time I followed this process I didn't have any problems at all. I've tried changing the ROM and using different bootloaders, nothing will get past the authentication.
I'm no expert, but just a question. Does it matter if hes using an newer radio on an older build?
When I sometimes flash a ROM and can't get internet access I just turn on/off my phone a time or two and eventually I get internet back.
Actually this is fixed. It was simple and embarrassing.
After doing a lot of reading I found a post on another site with a tmob rep. He was talking about how if you have a shared text plan, sometimes there are issues with the data plan provision dropping off of the sim card because the subscriber will have a shared text plan and also text messages as part of their data package. T-mobile systems see this as redundant and drop a feature.
I've had the same data plan for almost 2 years, it's the same data plan I was using when I first got the g1 - sometimes their systems don't pick it up for awhile apparently - but when they do you can no longer use that internet gateway. Coincidentally, this happened to me just as I was downgrading my g1.
Sorry for the needless post. Thanks to everyone who contributes to the site with guides, they have always been very helpful to me.
Sometimes it's the simplest thing...
this is a short story of my past week saga.
a month ago i got 2 evos. wife and i.
i was sold on the fact that with these phones while one could pay 30 bucks a month for up to 8 on wifi hotspot,
OR!
they could be used for internet sharing over usb for free to one computer.
that is what 3 different sprint reps told me, and i was shocked b.c i thought there was no way to get that but i was clearly told and i asked repeated questions because it seemed like nirvana.
anyway i get the phones and as i am getting teh numbers set up do the dreaded late june OTA update which apears broke a bunch of your roots. bummer.
anyway.
i live in a 4g land and happily for a month on both phones I
turn the 4g radio on,
wait for connection,
connect supplied usb cable to computer with htc sync software installed
connect phone and use usb settings drop down to set the phone to
internet sharing over usb.
with in 30 seconds htc sync had added a network adapter and life was great.
i don't think i ever did it over 3g, however a sprint rep told me after asking "is this free tethering to one computer only on 4g thing?" replyied "i haven't had anyone say they couldn't over 3g but im not sure" but i tried once and i don't think it got working, i think i got error 67.
i thought it was hilarious b.c i assumed most were rooting for the great wifi teather, ?or usb? and it was working as so out of the box.
so after carefully reading the hundred or so posts by all rooting methods, what to do with adb, then the single click, then the single click removal due to messed up 4g stuff... i just kept waiting b.c although im sure i could follow a multistep nand root process, but as the phones worked so well as is, and i wasn't sure if teh 4g radio was sorted out yet in a simple root i just waited to root later.
so this past thursday or so i did on my phone the official over the air update to 2.2
3.26.651.6
and all day i was highly enjoying it. small changes here and there
UNTIL!!!
i went home and did the standard 4g radio on, usb connect, drop down,
hm... internet sharing has been changed to usb teathering....
and i did it, and nothing happened. error 67
so this time i unplugged radio 4g of on, confirmed in menu settings we were go with ip
and phone internet worked
but after plugging in usb and switching to usb teathering and quickly going back to the 4g menu status page i would watch the 4g radio disconnect, start scanning, maybe attempt to connect to sprint, then scann again forever
then dump a error 67.
so.... thats a frustration...
so i call sprint, and they say you need to go to a store to fix the update, yes they know it createdissues. so i go to a store.
they send me to another store, a tech store... they say oh you get error 67?
call sprint tech support they need to clear it up on their end.
so i call and they try it. i do the whole pound pount 32 somthing enter a code
off on
wait.
and still errors and no connecting...
so i call and they say you need to go back to the tech store adn have them put the update on.
i am slightly ticked at this point but totally staying cool.
i am starting to realize that this is an issue. and sprint has no idea.
next morning i do make it back to the store...
and speak with the tech guy
1st telling him the story.
2nd asking before anyother stuff, can we make this simple and restore my phone with thier tools to 2.1
he says basically, ah nope. i can't do anything. i have no tools.
i have no software. on this phone its basically the ota's htc send us.
so bascially spritn wants me to get all the way here,
and all he's going to do is go behind the door
punch around on my phone to make sure im not an idoit, then set the phoen back to factory settings, and make sure 2.2 looks aok.
so knowing this isn't going to solve anything, i let them go anyway so when i talk to sprint again i have followed their suggestions yet, i still have teh issue.
so that's what i do, and after putting contacts back on and using an app to restore most of installed apps. i head back home...
there is now frustration but still maintain my cool, bc after all i live in america, and i will get to eat today. overall life is good.
idea, lets call htc. so i do.
basically this person is slighly tech and proceeds to say,
from what i hear, due to a glitch 2.1 owners have free hotspot.
most likely that got fixed in 2.2
but i held my ground stating that hotspot and usb data sharing are two distinct thigns, and as much as sprint would like to merge and charge, that difference adn stated fact was the selling reason for me on these...
but she confirmed that there is no going back to 2.1
but also left me with a glimmer or hope.
so i called back sprint then sprint tech, then got on the phone waitng for advanced tech support to call me back on the idea that i just need my account provisioned for usb data tethering. which allows a 1 computer to share the data from my plan, and as i have unlimited, its no problem.
the tech tried to do something like that... but got to a point where we changed and confirmed something deep in my phone like either a 3g or 4g mac address was right, but i still had issues, and so he said he woudl have advanced tech call me back b.c they had better tools to assist me.
well that hour call back still hasnt happened and its around 36 hours know.
maybe i get a call monday..
however... at this point i am bugged b.c obviously there is still a 2% change this will get solved by the correct device provisioning,
however i believe now the sprint reps merely didn't know it was a glitch which allowed single person teathering so now if i call, basically all i get is big crocodile tears that say im sorry you were misinformed...
so the hilarious this is i still have the other phone, no way i will update that one, b/.c its our web lifeline now.
and if the other one gets sorted out great.
if not,
i have been waiting in the back, but this time.
im joining the others waiting for the FANTASTIC DEVS to find the exploit to allow nand rooting for the ota and stock shipped 2.2 evos
and i will be in.
it can't come soon enough.
thanks for reading, enjoy your night.
**newcomers like me to xda, please spent a couple hours reading up before you post or ask questions.
you will be shocked how many answers are here.
if all your wanting to do is tether to 1 pc through USB, than just get EasyTether.
It works great for me, and I still get 7mbs with 4g turned on while doing a speedtest on my PC. And, you do not need to be rooted to use it.
Yeah, thanks for the reminder, i tried that and pdanet first, but stopped bc i was able to with htc's stock software, and i was told its legit from sprint, but at this point it might be the way to get along till more headway is made, only 10 for the https and would work well as i dont need root. At this point 40 quarters is a better use of my time Still though kinda ticked at sprint, i feel like this has been a mega bait switch. They have been helpful, but they cant fix it.

I was wondering if anyone has actually successfully gotten WiFi Calling working on a MyTouch 3G or similar. (I have a Magic 32B, original, not 3.5mm or fender or 32A, but I think those and even a G1 are similar enough that I would be happy to try the same combo if you have it working on one of those). I've been searching for a while and the only thread I found with any real discussion is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846685
As far as I can tell from that thread, the OP claimed he had it working but the video is down now, maybe one or 2 other people thought they might have it working but weren't sure, and most were stuck at "Enabling..." which is where I'm at.
I do have T-Mobile US, and WiFi Calling does work on my MyTouch 4G with the same SIM, but I would like to also get it working on my MyTouch 3G. (I feel the need to say this because in the other thread some people thought those who couldn't get it to work didn't have the right carrier or know what WiFi Calling is and were trying to get calls without a plan or something).
Right now I'm trying on GingerYoshi 1.5 but am open to any and all ROM/kernel combos (including stock/non-rooted and even old Android versions) that might get it to work as that's my primary usage goal for this phone.
And just to clarify, I am aware of alternatives like Google Voice, SIP, etc. and I might have to consider those if I have no other options, but right now I am trying to get the T-Mobile Wifi Calling/UMA working if possible.
Thanks!
Success!* I'll try to update this with details, but wanted to post a quick update in case I forget to do the detailed one or put it off too long. Basically, I went exploring in the G1 forum and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224658
I spent a lot of time trying to get it to work with my then-current ROM (GingerYoshi) but eventually gave up (in retrospect there were other things I could've tried, I'm not sure I was setting permissions right etc. since I was just pushing files from the package and not installing from recovery).
Then I found out by browsing the thread that Froyo Laszlo ROM works fine on the MyTouch 3G (and has lots of people in the thread doing that)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929678
So basically, make sure you have the right radio and hboot (listed at the top of the Laszlo thread, I found a good instructions thread linked from GingerYoshi back when I installed it), appropriate recovery (AmonRA ... before I installed GingerYoshi I was still on some ancient Cyanogen with an ancient CM Recovery) then SuperWipe (search, I only learned about it in the past few days), flash Laszlo. I would let Laszlo boot before installing the wifi calling package. Then once you've tested that Laszlo works, go back to recovery and flash the wifi calling zip.
Ok, this actually turned out to be more complete than I had planned, so I probably won't change much. Let me know if you need any clarifications about my process! (I'm not an Android expert so I probably can't help debug too much... but happy to try or at least explain better how I got it working)
Remember that my primary goal was wifi calling, so as tempting as it is I don't plan to spend much or any time trying to get this to work on a different ROM myself.
Thanks to all Android hackers and especially Cyanogen, Laszlo, and socioking!
*I've only used this for one call, and before I succeeded I got sudden hard reboots on accessing WiFi Settings twice, so I'm not sure how stable the wifi stuff is. I'll see if I can update later with more experience but I just wanted to point this out so you don't get discouraged if you see the wifi hard reboot a few times... it doesn't happen every time. If it keeps happening frequently I think I'll try putting the Laszlo stock wifi.ko back instead of the one from the zip and see what that does.
I recently switched to a prepaid t-mobile account ($15/month for unlimited texts, 10c a minute for calls, no data) wifi calls would be awsome! There's no extra charges for this right? Let me know how this works for you and I may consider it!

I'm honestly not sure how billing works for pre-paid. For standard (post-paid) accounts it used to deduct from plan minutes but they changed it a while ago (~9 months) to not deduct or charge (beyond your regular plan cost). You may want to google around for more info on that. -- see update below
I'm not going to be the one using the phone but I'll try to remember to get updates and pass them along. (I'm subscribed to this thread so you can post here if I forget to update)
Edit to add: unfortunately from my quick searching it seems that for prepaid it does charge at the same rate as regular calls, so this is probably not going to be useful for you if you're only looking to save money. (My primary reason for pursuing it was poor coverage...)
