Delete All Contacts - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo General

Hi
Does anyone know how to do this from the Athena (tried looking for Select All, doesn't exist).
My problem is that Contacts are screwed, I have removed all Sync relationships and yet the Contacts is still full. If I recreate the relationships it doesn't update the contacts and that is greyed out in ActiveSync.
My guess is that I can delete them all & start from scratch it should then work on a sync. I really don't want to sit here all day and delete one at a time, a google search shows that there is no simple way, but I know that far cleverer people than I are based in these forums and should know a way around this.

Two solutions ;
1. HR ( easiest way)
2. Remove file pim.vol from main root of Athena , reset - athena will crate new empty file .

1. Backup contacts in Outlook
2. Delete all contacts in Outlook (you can select them all at once)
3. Sync with Outlook (everything will be removed from device)
4. Delete Partnership
5. Put contacts back in outlook via backup file
6. Create new partnership
7. Sync (PC will now see the phone as if it's the first time and everything will be set correctly in Outlook and on device).
Good luck.

Unfortunately not, the contacts file is not sync'd with anything - I have deleted 3 partnerships already in an attempt to do this.
I think destoying the pim file is easiest.

any idea how to delete the pim.vol file, it states that it is in use ? (tried soft reset)
Edit: Renamed the pim.vol file, soft reset & it creates a new one - delete the old one. no more Contacts. Thanks guys.

tomtom2 favourites - how to backup before unlocking/upgrade?

Hi
I need to know how to backup tomtom2 favourites before unlocking and then upgrading to 1.60 uk official rom update please?
Any help would be great as I'd like to do this today
I've just done exactly this and didn't have any problems with loosing my favorites
This is what I did (can't guarantee it will work for you but it did for me!)
Sync your files with the PC
Copy all the files to a new folder (i.e. making a backup copy of them)
Run the unlock tool.
Run the update.
Create new partnership and sync up (don't copy the saved filed yet)
Reinstall all your applications (i.e. TTN2) (via the activesyn add/remove programs)
Soft Rest XDAII
Sync (with files option selected)
Now copy backed up files to the new sync folder on the desktop and resync the XDA II
this should now mean the old settings are now transferred to the new rom and the favorite locations will be saved
Hi mate #
thx for the reply but can you tell me where this data is kept? What file etc... As I have sync'ed but i dont see any files that overtly look like tt2 files....
Cheers in advance

UPDATE.
_______________
I've taken the plunge, unlocked it and updating as I type... Fingers crossed, did a full backup before hand using active sync, not sure if using restore is a great idea tho?
On my XDA II the TTN2 settings appear to be saved in the My Documents folder (i.e. the one that's sync'ed with the desktop). On mine the exact folder is called "Tom Tom Navigator Settings" and contains 2 files one that appears to be used for the program as a whole whilst the other appears to be linked to the Map (Great Britain in my case)
Hope it works for you.

Hotsync Restore

Hi dudes,
im a new convert from the palm platform. I just got myself an XDA2 few weekss ago. BUT it had just HUNG on me again, twice over 2 weeks!!! (i assume it hung as pressing the power button does not do anything.)i tried soft-reset and its useless. Then the green and blue lights went off. And i did a hard reset finally. Does anybody's XDA2 keep hanging also?
Having no choice but to re-install the apps, i found that its so unlike palm where after a hotsync everything will be restore. I need to create a NEW partnership with Activesync everytime i hard reset!!! Is it necessary??? anyway to overcome this creating a new partnership everytime i hard reset???
1) use a backup
or
2) edit the name of your XDAII in the registry
I just explained 3 threads ago
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12802
I don't mind explaining it again, but there is a search option.
If it doesn't work or you have more questions do ask them. I don't mean to scare you off.
Or, you can delete your existing partnership (after you have done a hard reset and before you put your PPC back in the cradle) and then you won't have a problem with renaming anything! Make sure you use the Restore option on ActiveSync to avoid having to reinstall everything individually, it's a pain in the ass!
yes, if you just want the same name you can delete the partnership on the pc.
but i thought he wanted to keep the same shared folder etc.

When you delete the existing partnership you dont have to delete the shared folder.
Delete the partnership, keep the sync folder, cradle your device, name the partnership the same as the previous one, and your old sync folder will be used again.

WM5 cannot install, uninstall, delete

Hello,
I am ****ed. I did nothing in particular except installing some new programs especially in the last phm regedit (but i did not use the prog) and suddenly the following problem occured.
1. I cannot see any applications listed in the "Remove Programs" views
plus
2. I cannot delete any Files in the whole System, no matter built in, or storage card
It seem that I have lost all my permissions.
The only thing I can still do is editing the registry as it seems.
I cannot backup anything. I cannot install any new programs.
If I have to hard reset now I will loose all my contacts since I only have half of them on my simcard.
Please help me out somehow.
What do I need to change in the registry, in order te be able to do something again (at least install a backup programm in order to keep my contacts).
Or,how can I save all my contacts to sim - I could not find this option in the contacts view.
Please .. desperately help needed.
D
I rekon you'll need to hard reset and lose all your contacts. That'll learn you for not having them all backed up, eh?
Also, Please don't swear in the thread title. Some people read this at work.
Sync your contacts with pc and you'll save all.
@No.1 ... yes, I removed that bad word from the title and already am happy again with my "new" hard-resetted Wizard... only needed approx. 3 hours for everything
I was very upset when I wrote the above, since Sprite Backup does not work at the moment and I rely normally 100% on it
@No.2 ... also yes ... an older company laptop with Active Synch installed saved many of my contacts
there is a file in the root directory called pim.vol. This contains all of your contacts, call history info, tasks and calendar data (maybe some other stuff I haven't figured out yet too). Copy this to a storage card, hard reset, drop it back into the root directory and overwrite the new one, soft reset and all of your info is back. Anytime I add a new contact or important calendar info I back up my pim.vol just incase something bad happens and I need to hard reset.
wow ... thanx very much for the heads up ... I am this will save me from a lot of future troubles

HOTMAIL and NEW ROM

1) when I connect on hotmail from Pocket MSN mobile it happens that automatically it donwloads all the emails stored in the folders (that I use as archive) and only the new emails in INBOX folder....my archive is a lot of mega O_O I would like that the mobile shows me only the new email in INBOX nothing else...is it possible?
2) I have installed the new room from I-mate...it works great but unfortunately it installed so many software i don't need....if I repeat the same process and restart t he mobile before it automatically install the newsoftware is it ok? I'm afraid that in the Ext rom there are some soft used to make the new rom stable or to fix problems.....what do u think?
thanks,
Giordano
i have noticed this as well, has anyone found a solution that allows all emails to be downloaded instead of just the inbox folder. I use folders to filter some of the emails i recieve...
Thanks!
found out how to download all other emails in windows live when syncing! go in to the wml messaging, click menu, tools, manage folders. then tick all the folders you want to sync. hope this helps some other people!

HTC ROM UPGRADE - Missing contacts & apps

hmmm I installed the EU Rom upgrade, having removed storage card amd take a copy of PIM.VOL. Upgrade completed, I can see apps on my storage card but my phone can't see them in the list of programmes, so I can't add them to programme font page or start menu... My phone also doesn't seem to see the pim.vol so I can't reload all my contacts (no they weren't all on my pc - I can sync with that fine but not all my contacts were on pc)
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE - I can't be the first - or last - with this..!?
thankyou
Mark
Try TotalCommander to copy the file + backup your contacts with PIMBackup2.8 in future. As for the apps, you need to re-install them, so you can safely delete the apps on the storage card saved under Program Files
Thanks, going through various cab files etc and re-installing, TomTom next! Copying pim.vol hasn't worked, I have some Mob no's on my sim and can see them but bizarrely when I try to add to favourite contacts, all I see are a few email addresses, not the (few) mob no's I have on the phone. Looks like I will have to re-source these , what a chore... I though that copying the pim.vol would save me this task (am sure I read it in these august forums!)
all the best, Mark
ps any other tips on how to fully restore what contacts I have, so I can add them again to favourite contacts, are appreciated.
You may want to look into Sprite Backup. It's very nice for restoring system state after moving to a new rom. After flashing a new rom I have all applications / contacts / emails / texts / etc back on my phone within 10 minutes. I don't have to install anything. It's quite nice, especially with all the flashing and testing I do.
