Hi to all of you..my o2 trion was alright till a few days ago.. it started overheating.. that's how it started: I was using my laptop and i connected the o2 trion to it..i didn't dare to put the o2 trion on the table in case i moved the laptop and my phone fell down.. so, i placed it on the laptop, just below the lcd screen. after a few hours of surfing on the net, i disconnected my phone.. it was warm, but not hot!!...after using it for what seemed like a few minutes, it started to get warmer, without using wifi.. it was weird. Then, there came a point where it was too hot to hold it..i preferred switching it off. after it cooled down, i tried switching it on again.. a few minutes later, it hot again.. i forgot to mention that within less than 20minuttes of hotness, the battery changed from 100% to 0%. I phoned htc and they told me that there was a problem with the battery. Weird coz its a new one. the brand of my battery is DYNAPACK.. is that a good brand?? what do you think is the problem?how can it solve it..HEEEEELLLP!!!! i cant even use my phone now..if i can't find a solution to it ,I'll have to send it to htc and pay the repair costs.
Are you absolutely sure that wifi is switched off? I had this problem a while back which was being caused by the wifi connection refusing to switch itself off.
Solution was to take the battery out for about half an hour, reinsert, install a different comm manager to the one I was using, switch off wifi using the new comm manager and the problem rectified itself.
If you search on here there are a number of instances of overheating phones with various solutions.
Hope you get it sorted.

i switched my phone and wifi off. The phone seemed to be hetting cooler.. i used ,y wifi and it seemed get hot as usual, when surfing on the net.. however, when i switched on my phone, it started getting really hot..i don't know what is causing this problem...can any body help me?
If you're running 3G, the battery will die in around 12 hours. To avoid this, go into phone options and change the Band from Auto to GSM.
Dude, see if anyone you know has the same phone and try your battery in theirs. if it still overheats in their phone get a new battery. Personally I'd get a new battery. That would tell me right away if its the phone(warranty call) or the battery (not covered by warranty). However, if you continue to use you could do irreparable damage to your hermes. Cheers....

in the options, i can select only gsm + umts and i can't select only 1...i'm sory, i don't have any friends who use htc phones...they all use nokia or sony ericsson
I was having a very similar problem with my phone randomly heating up and the battery life dropping rapidly... so I got a new battery, and within a day, starting doing the same thing again.
I never use wi-fi or bluetooth, so I knew that wasn't the issue, but I did notice it was always connected to 3G.
So, I installed Kaiser Tweak, and changed the setting to have it disconnect from 3G after each session (checking email or surfing web, etc).
That one change dramatically improved my battery life AND more importantly, stopped the overheating. It's like a completely new phone now.
had a friend with the same problem but the top part of his phon would also get hot. this morning he found a dead capacitor on his front camera board. removing it has fixed his hermes... If you think you can check and have a hot spot at the top of the hermes, I would look into that. will update if theres any problems later... cheers...
hi! thanks for your replies!!i went to the local htc centre and the guy said that they have to replace the motherboard..they said that they will get new stocks next month..they said they cant tell how much the price will be..but do you guys know the approximate price?
like ultramag69 said mine was a faulty cap, and mostly prices for this stuff ranges from $200 (for simple stuff like battery) to $500+ for the board swaps, if not covered by warranty. just pray they do a through test and actually fix the problem
That's crazy!!!a motherboard which costs nearly the same price as the phone itself!!!i was ready to spend $100 on this but $500 is WAY too expensive...if i try to sell it on ebay, approximately how much will i be getting for this?? and are you sure about the motherboard price?

Hello, sorry for my english, is not the best.
I've BIG problem with my P3300. originally it came with WM5, after some time I got update from official site for WM6. Had WM6 maybe for 4 months, everything was just perfect while one day my HTC started do funny things like go off it self (white screen when using navigation). It was a once in a week. After some time it started to be like this few times in a day. I thought what I need to do hard reset. Did. Didn't helped. Than I tried to flash my phone to WM6.1. Phone went mad, was constantly switching off it self, screen just freezes and after that you even can't start the phone around 5-10 min. it just want do anything, even if you plug in the charger, indicating orange light want come up. Than I tried to flash with original WM5. Did that, everything was fine for a day, but after the day it went off, i restarted, and than gone wireless and screen started move to the left and to the right aprox 2 mm. When is connected to computer it want connect to ActivSync, it's coming up message: Can't find IP address, try to disconnect phone and connect again... I did manual configurations in network cards and computer, so when you're looking in network connections looks everything fine, but it's still not recognized by ActiveSync :/ Than i send the phone to recovery mode, connected to the computer and updated to WM6. Same thing, screen shaking, wireless not working, goes off. Is strange thing too, in aprox 24 hr memory is filled up to maximum - than is coming up the message: Storage is full, please delete some programs. :/ Hard Reset have to do every single day... Any idea what's can be wrong with my phone? Tried already a lot of things, no more ideas. I think it's software problem... :/
If anyone have any ideas please share with me... Thanks for everyone.
Anyone any ideas? Please, someone... i don't really wanna put phone in to the bin...
Its a hardware isue
Sorry, I have same problems and try same thinks, finaly I send to service and they say its a commone hardware error on electrical micro connections inside cosed by droping the phone down. Before I send it hangs up 2-3 time at day, now its hapen 1 in 10 day if I accedentaly drop the phone
Hardware issue
I think this is hardware problem..., I have some experience with repair HTC smartphones. Freezing, restarting, problem with screen..., GSM etc,,..
In all cases helps Hot air soldering station, find right chip or module (gsm , proc..) and reheating this.. A frequent problem is BROKEN tin joints BGA chips , after impact of equipment. .. sorry for english...
I'm facing the same problem with my old Artemis.
Since I upgrades, I gave it to a friend. It was working perfectly fine months now, until last week.
The phone keeps freezing, doesn't always boot, many times won't even respond to charger pluged in.
Randomly resoldering the board's chips, sound like a long & hard solution :/
I have a UK supplied Touch HD from Orange and it`s going crazy!
Problem 1:
Backlight switches off without warning, touchscreen still responds but obviously you can`t see anything! Multiple hard resets will eventually coax the backlight to wake up, but the delay between power button pressed and the "first buzz" of life is around 20-30 seconds. Started happening when it was about 2 months old. Initially it was infrequent and I put it down to an installed software problem, but now every few hours. Other symptoms include the charging light failing when the backlight fails and there is usually an increase in heat around the case. Strangely however when I use it as a sat-nav and it is permanently charging the backlight never fails. I have tried a new battery, desktop charger, turned off fast-sleep, autolock, light sensor, full reset and removal of all my software and it still does it. Sometimes its OK for 5 days, other times it goes "dark" after 10 minutes.
All ROMs updated to latest versions. NB This started happening with the original Orange installed ROMS
My original solution to the problem was to run bootloader which forced the backlight on, but the long delay between on/off and start means this doesn`t work anymore.
Problem 2:
Screen display appears inverted and mirrored after pressing power button during operation. This is an infrequent problem but may be connected.
I live in Thailand now. HTC Thailand will no doubt take it and charge me $250 for a new motherboard whether it needs one or not. I can`t easily return it to the UK and I just hope somebody somewhere has some ideas?!?
I was just talking to another user with completely bizarre issues. What you are experiencing is totally abnormal. Just to make sure it's not a software issue- what SPL version shows up in your bootloader? Also, what rom are you currently running?

** OOPS my typing brain isn`t working today **
Thanks for replying. I had upgraded to:
2009_RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship
with soft uspl but last night I reinstalled the original Orange ROM, effectively factory fresh. (The HTC April update won`t install natively on the Orange variant of the phone) and the thing stayed on all night and didn`t go dark. However, this morning when I got the reply, I turned off the phone to get to bootloader and it took 3 battery removals to activate the backlight.
Anyways SPL is 1.14.0000
R 1.09.25.14
G 52.49a.24.26u
D 1.14.22273
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

So is the phone working properly again with the factory Orange rom? All I can tell you is that if you want to run the 2009_RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship rom you must have a base SPL of 1.54.0000. Even if you use USPL to flash the rom to bypass CID-locking you still need to upgrade your SPL because the new 1.56+ roms are not compatible with an SPL version less than 1.54.0000. Read the guide in my signature for more information.
I see cRaCKwHoRe is on your case, so your in safe hands. I'll leave it to him.
One suggestion though. Instead of creating new posts and saying 'Read Next Post', why not just edit your first post and state 'EDIT' or 'Update' with new information below. This way thread remains short and easy to follow
Just an idea mate!!
Hello again. As I said in the previous post, reset to check the ROM version caused it to happen again. 3 Attempts to wake it up this morning. This afternoon another spontaneous backlight failure. I started to wonder if it could be connected to something on the flash card. So I took that out and it has behaved since then. But this doesn`t mean problem solved as it had worked ok for the 5 previous days with the WWE 1.56 ROMS.
Also, HARDSPL is being identified as a Trojan "heur" with Bitdefender.

Most virus scanners show a false positive that USPL and HSPL are trojans or viruses. This is based on heuristics and how these utilities work. They are tried and tested and are most definitely safe.
And again I stress that you cannot run a 1.56+ rom on an SPL version below 1.54.0000. Since you are running SPL 1.14.0000 this is why you are having such issues. You need to flash a newer SPL version!
After the hardspl back to original Orange ROMS:
Anyways SPL is 1.14.0000
R 1.09.25.14
G 52.49a.24.26u
D 1.14.22273
I had 2 dark events. I wondered if there could be a problem with the memory card, so I took it out. My reasoning being, after it goes dark and is reset, something was causing it to wait 30 seconds before "smart mobility" and/or buzz (if the screens still alive). When my PC does that its usually because there`s a memory card or external hard drive confusing it. Took out the card and it was OK all night. Formatted the card this morning and had no problems all day. This is a guess, I am an idiot! But the memory card is the only ongoing part of my phone; internal storage and ROMs has been cleared or upgraded every month.I dont doubt my feeble attempts to upgrade to 1.56 and bypass HTC`s no upgrades for Orange handsets policy may have been a significant contributory factor. Interestingly, Orange are actively discouraging purchase of the HD, they have had too many problems with their handsets.
Going to keep the phone empty for a few days, no software, no sat-nav and see if I have any more events. Then I think will read your HARDSPL instructions far more carefully and retry the ROM upgrade. Excellent work by the way!
The odd thing about this telephone (apart from the inversion and mirrored display problem, which still occurs) is that following the nuclear option of total clearance and ROM upgrade/downgrade it will behave for an number of days and then the backlight dies again. It could still be hardware!
Going to keep my eye on things for a few days.
But if anyone else has had these problems with their HD or Orange handset, please tell! Maybe you aren`t crazy! To help this is a list of symptoms:
Spontaneous backlight failure but screen and phone responding
Simultaneous charging light failure
Delayed reboot 20-30 seconds before first buzz
Continued backlight failure requiring multiple hard resets to resolve
Weak vibration during failed backlight reboot
Inverted and mirrored screen at boot or after wake-up
Thanks!
Looks like a SPL problem only. It is responsible for the boot events and mismatched display drivers between SPL and the ROM most likely did it. Anyway interested in knowing updates once U flash a new SPL 1.54. and ROM..
Problems not resolved. Backlight dead again today. Multiple failures 10 minute interval. Totally fed up with HTC products. My previous HTC phone MDA Vario 2/Tytn/Hermes had to be replaced 4 times under warranty and until 2 weeks ago I used it when Touch HD died, now it has completely died as well.
Even in its "as-supplied" by Orange configuration the Touch HD won`t work now. May be I will try one more attempt at ROM upgrade. In the meantime I`ve just bought a cheapo Samsung sgh i200 for basic pocket PC functionality and just because it doesn`t say HTC on it!
Windows mobile is great. Massive software library and great to customize. But in my experience HTC make lousy unreliable products!

That's really unfortunate. Seems you have bad luck, consistently
Most people really like HTC devices. They do actually make some pretty decent stuff. Seems you've just gotten rotten luck.
Taken it back up to 1.56 with Hardspl as suggested. Installed Dutty 3.4. And it worked... For one night! Dead again today. I think now it is a hardware fault. So I suppose she`s off back to HTC and I will have to pay some money.
I have been very unlucky with HTC products. I said before I had to have 4 HTC Hermes, thought it would be interesting to tell what was wrong with them:
1. Orange SPV3100 WM5. First generation Hermes 100, hopeless wifi, buggy, returned to store and refund.
2. MDA Vario 2. WM5 Upgraded radio version, better wifi. Decided it didn`t like being a telephone anymore and the radio died after 3 months. Returned to store.
3. MDA Vario 2. WM5 Factory replacement. Dead memory card reader, didn`t make it out of the store when I went to collect.
4. MDA Vario 2 WM6 (Hermes 300). Working wifi, a much better operating system. A real telephone. Lasted 18 months! 2 weeks ago, complete power failure for no specific reason. Won`t charge or do anything now.
But before Nokia and iPhone customers get too smug. I also had an iphone when they were first released in 2007 (1.02) and that was a bug infested piece of junk as well. Got stolen in Bangkok. I really do miss having to reinstall the OS every 2 weeks! And my brother`s Nokia N95 has spent more time with Nokia than with him. 8 visits to Nokia care.
And now I have a broken Touch HD, probably with a power supply issue!
All these phones have one thing in common. They were (with the exception of the Hermes 300) first generation examples. And just before you rush out and pay big bucks for the latest telephone from HTC or whoever... Think, was this phone ready for release? Or was it just rushed out to keep the shareholders happy?
Think about it...
Hell! finally I found someone with the same problems. But I have bought it just some days ago!! The only thing I have done since then: installing tomtom on my sd-card and setting this gps-signal thing to the value 3000.
when I bought it i tried to run it in the store: after turning on, black screen but still vibration when i pressed some button, so it must have been on. Then it suddenly worked, installed the system, everything perfect. yesterday i installed tomtom, today it probably "died" around 20 times. everything the same like already described, screen messed up, after turning on vibration after 30 seconds, god!
is there anything i can do? i just bought that thing
Spontaneous backlight failure but screen and phone responding
Simultaneous charging light failure
Delayed reboot 20-30 seconds before first buzz
Continued backlight failure requiring multiple hard resets to resolve
Weak vibration during failed backlight reboot
Inverted and mirrored screen at boot or after wake-up

Sounds like you have the exact same problem as my HD: inverted screen, screen blank but still functioning etc...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520781
I am waiting for mine to happen more frequently before sending it away for service. Otherwise they will just return it if they can't reproduce the problem.
Pretty sure it is a hardware problem. I am in Australia and have the original stock ROM.
We may be onto a new fault here. Just noticed 2 more threads with the same screen issues. My phone has been OK for a few days, but today screen won`t wake up at all. Hooked it up to Pocket Controller Pro and it`s reporting a "microp version mismatch 0" in its dark state. Been checking on other websites and this seems to have been a problem with Touch Diamond previously. There doesn`t seem to be an update for microp firmware. One user tracked it down to a loose connection between screen and motherboard. I don`t know! I just wish it would work!
Any suggestions for MICROP issue?
Currently running Dutty 3.4 with 1.56 Olinex. But this has been a problem long before this ROM version.
Fallen Spartan told me this:
"Have you tried going to Start > Settings > All Settings > System > Power > Advanced and making sure device isn't set to turn off after a period of time?"
Until now my phone works without problems, I will report again after some days
Yup, tried that one. Doesn`t work. You will notice after you end a call, the screen will be dim. This is the warning of imminent backlight failure. It is not power management dependent. My problems with the phone started in Feb. Initially intermittent. Now constantly.
Sometimes the thing will work for a few days for no reason. Only way to guarantee no failure is permanent USB power. Pull out the USB and watch it die, instantly! That`s with the original or the new battery.
New motherboard may be the only solution. But it is worth noting that when I had problems with my Hermes and it had to go back to HTC 3 times, each time a new phone was sent. On the service report "New motherboard" was reported. The guy in the T-mobile shop told me they`re too expensive to repair so it`s easier giving you a new one. They still hold onto the old one for 3 weeks though!
Might try to repair the Touch HD, I still have my Samsung SGH. (It`s very slow!) but I think I will wait for ASUS or Toshiba phones with snapdragon processors. Had enough of HTC and don`t want another iphone.
This is a hardware issue. No if's, and's or but's. It is caused by a disconnection between the screen and the motherboard. A faulty motherboard or a loose / broken connector is the usual culprit. I would say 7 out of 10 times it is due to a loose connector. It is a poor design to begin with and after being dropped or roughed up enough it tends to break or get loose. HTC typically just replaces the motherboard in a warranty repair situation.
If you are lucky and just have a loose connector and are comfortable with opening up the device yourself, you can disassemble the device and re-connect or re-solder the 2 port connector that connects the motherboard with the screen. Of course this will "void" your warranty so I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you are comfortable working on micro-electronics. If your case is the type where it is intermittent and it works sometimes and then sometimes not, then you have a loose connection and it just needs to be reconnected or re-soldered.
I have seen and fixed a couple of these now.
yesterday i had the problem lots of HD2 owner faced it, my device worked fine, but when i had to soft reset it, it always freezes on the white screen, and never starts up, every many times of taking the battery out, and start again, it finally started up.
i tried to soft reset it again and faced the same problem
i tried to flash the ROM again, but after many tries, i finally got it to flash, but the thing is that the problem wasn't solved, and the unit kept freezing in the start up, but once it started up it worked perfectly until the next soft reset.
but then i tried cooling the device against an AC, and the surprise was that the unis was able to start normally, every time with no problems when it was cooled
any one faced such problem with the device? i will try it again today at noon, when the temperatures are high.
I tried it again now, when the Battery temperature was 38.5, the devise did not start, when i cooled it down, it did start, and when it started the battery temperature was 35.5
can some one with the same issue confirm?
Yes I am having the same problem!
My fone did the same again last night and I'm going to try reflash it today - else the POS is going back to the shop! Not happy!
did you try cooling it down? flashing the ROM did not help me at all
Can this be a Battery problem? that the battery can not provide the required current when it's heated?
ok, i did these two experiments
1- i heated the battery alone on a air heater to almost 45 degree
and cooled the phone, but the phone did boot up normally
2- i heated the phone on the heater and cooled the battery, the phone didn't bootup
so the problem is defiantly with the phone not the battery :-(

Yes, onlywhen the phone was cool to the touch again did it boot correctly. However last night it did the same but would not reboot after leaving it for a while. I tried to do a hard reset but the phone hung on the HTC boot screen and would not go further.
This morning the OS booted but was totally corrupt - it looked like booting in to windows 98!! no graphics, no HTC Sense, no usual colour scheme and a whole whole of corrupt file messages. This happened each time I hard reset - and the USB port also failed to recognise any device. I think it's safe to say it is practically bircked and thus, Ireturned it to O2 today to sort out and give me a new handset! I think it is a hardware issue. Infact, I'll put biscuits on it being that vs software.
it is definitely a hardware issue, but the thing is, these are the first few days of summer in my country, the days when the weather is getting really hot, and i guess this is the first summer HD2 will experience, since it was released in the Autumn, so my guess is more and more units will get this issue as the weather get hotter in other countries
Hi guys.
Weird issue you are facing!.. Mine gets very hot on hard use.. today I tried a soft reset while it was hot and it started normally.
When did you bought your HD2?

i got it like 4 months ago, but i am sure now that there is a hardware issue
had a same problem...
my solution was screawing the middle battery pin under cover...
the hd2 have must have Temperature senzor...
the hd2 have 3 pins under battery cover, 1 = +, 3 = -, and the middle pins is the 2 = ?
i think the middle or the pin nr. 2, is same as ACPI in desktop or notebook, Advanced Configuration and Power Interface,
Operating System-directed configuration and Power Management,
so if your middle pin is screawed, the powermanagement tell to device stop boot!!
or if the pin dont make a contact with battery - the powermanagement canot corectly detect the Temperature and the hd2 owerheat, then randomly restart...
its only my teory, my middle pins was screawed, im take it to the right position and my device worked well... but i want more and more and i broke the middle pin
after that the hd2 boot, and worked but when i want to do restart dont want to boot...
now my hd2 is in service center... so for all i want to say:
warrnig!!! dont youse the power or angry when u want to screaw the pin back
its only my teory, im not the electro technic...
sorry for my english, but i think everybody understand what i want to say
i know sucj hardware issues are unfixable, i am wondering should i get me a new HD2 or another phone
I got mine on contract in March - 1.48 ROM. but also had the issues in 1.66 prior to sending back.
Just awaiting for it to be returned - I'll report back to let you know if sending it away has fixed the issue. I'll be a mite miffed if they just flash the ROM and send it back lol!
had the same issue: overheating / reset loop / stuck on white screen
contacted HTC, sent for repair, received with new mainboard,
now works flawlessly

I had the same problem with mine on an UK O2 network. They took it back and flashed it. Sadly that didn't solve the problem. So I sent it back again and they replaced it with a newer model. This seems to have fixed it. Sadly looks like the early ones were crapy and had the same fault.
However mine still gets ruddy hot when connected to the anything in the car.
Bad job HTC :-(
Hi all,
Actually, there is CPU's overheating problem, not battery's. ALLMOST same problem you'll have if you'll remove cooler from your PC's CPU
My LEO shuts down at 38 deg. and cannot start again without cooling. Definitely, it's a price for 1 GHz processor - it should have less power demand or good cooling system.
Hi had the same problem mine also used to reboot on it's own when connected on pc and overheated. Going to contact HTC repair and send it back. I was wondering though is it ok if i send it back with a cooked rom and 2.10 radio or will they not change it cause i've switched that on my own? Any ideas pls?

Early model as in what date.month.year?
Regarding getting ruddy hot when connected to the anything in the car, it's the connector, IMHO.
I have problems too. My God, today is the first and really hotest day of the year in Germany. When I will back in Spain at 40 degrees celsius there my hd2 will be a bomb!!
My device is a German o2 hd2...
This isn't a request for help, but what I find to be the issue with my particular HD2. Originally, my HD2 would get stuck at the Tmobile "Stick Together" screen and would not boot past that. I tried a master reset, flashed an official Tmobile ROM update, a custom WINMO 6.5 custom ROM and now DFT's Windows Phone 7 ROM. What I noticed is that if I left the phone connected to the charger and casually used it for just navigating through system menus (no sd card or sim inserted) it worked fine for awhile and then shut off. I assumed due to the fact the phone was warm from charging etc. Try to reboot and it would get stuck at the start screen etc. Yesterday I finally popped my sim into the phone, did some casual web browsing etc, once again phone froze and then shut off. Took the battery out and laid the phone on my back porch for about 10 minutes, stuck it back in and the same thing happened after a few minutes of browsing. This made me believe that these damn HD2's are possibly suffering from the same issues that cause the XBOX 360 to RROD. I guessing the cpu etc is heating up and shutting down due to the heat which possibly is causing the solder points on the board to give out. Cooling down possibly is re-seating the solder points and allowing the phone to boot back up normally. Has anyone attempted a fix related to this issue dealing with the main board, maybe possibly re-soldering contact points? Don't know if it will work, but I may be wrong just giving my opinion to what I think the problem is with this phone. Emailed HTC, got a quote of $120-170 USD to fix my phone WTF!!!! I figure with how many people have had this issue they would atleast give a discounted repair rate or throw out a recall, oh well.
I also had this problem. no anwser from RMA.
so i acept it because i had no idea on it.

You can also either have your mainboard or try and do it yourself.
Peace.
Dang, wish I would had came across this a day or two ago. Sold the phone the other day for $150, bought a functional HD2 today with a cracked screen. Got an extra digitizer laying around that I bought that imma put in and be on my way.
