Let me try to put something that we can understand better here.
1. Formating the storage card is possible via your device, unless there are software that can do that.
2. You need software like SPB Plus, you can create any shortcut for any applications/file you like to put there in your Today's screen.
3. Delete, move, cut, copy, paste, hide, unhide.... can be done with your File Explorer. Some cooked ROM they bundled together with Total Commander and Resco File Explorer.
4. The .cab files always can be send via bluetooth or infrared to your sister's phone without using the computer.
5. Use PIMbackup to backup your contacts and backup your sms with Jeyo SMS Backup. These 2 already included with the ROM. There is other option that you could backup everything with SPB backup.
6. Sorry, I never change my wallpaper instead of themes available. I am just too old to put all those flowers onto my screen
7. Battery icon is an optional feature, if you would like to get one you can search for 'battery status for ppc' in your search engine. You'll get more than what you look into
In fact you can get more if you read carefully on several pages back, the similar questions had been discussed over and over again or search it over the internet I believe you'll find more and more.

8) My O2 got Re-set automatically. Everything i have installed got lost. First Phone got hang and then it got reset. Every thing on memory card is still there. but shortcut got lost. i can see and run them through explore programe game.

O2 Exec set up from new...only for O2

THE CABS IN HERE A FOR O2 (IF SOMEONE CAN CHNGE THIS AND PUT THE UPLOADS IN WIKI AND REPLACE WITH LINK THAT WOULD BE GREAT)
Ok so I bought an XDa Exec.. and like most thought it was going to be great when in truth it sucked..
With the help of all those on here (far to many to mention I now have by far the fastest most stable pDA I have ever had) This got me to thinking that to have all the info and files in one place would maybe help other O2 users so here goes..
What to do..
Firstly If your device has already been running then Hard reset and perform vanilla install.
Press the two -- keys on the keyboard at the same time and reset (yes that the one to the left of the red phone button and the one to the right of the green phone button)
once set up begins go through the screen set up and the device will give you a three second warning when this appears soft reset.
when it boots up you now have vanila install. ie its running but without all the O2 crap but also without your settings.
Next you need to get certain files.
UNI_ext_rom unlocker frem here http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=59&func=view&catid=40&id=7869#7869
regedit (trial here) http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=17108
O2 connections only cab at bottom of post
This extended Rom at bottom of post
Pocket Mechanic: Download (www.antontomov.com) and install this essential app. You have a few days on trial, and it's necessary for some steps
Ok now using active sync connect to your device and place the following in my documents (anywhere realy I just find I remember that)
*UNI_ext_rom unlocker
*regedit
*O2 connections only cab
*Pocket Mechanic
run both before resetting and also open regedit and change the following
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"Bootphase"=dword:00000002
"Order"=dword:00000001
"LoadFlags"=dword:00000001
"DriverPath"="Drivers\\BuiltIn\\TrueFFS_G31"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles\TRUEFFS_DOC1]
"MountHidden"=dword:00000000
"Folder"="Extended_ROM"
"PartitionDriver"=""
"Name"=""
"DefaultFileSystem"="FATFS"
RESTART EXEC.
ONCE RESTARTED CONNECT VIA ACTIVE SYNC
you should now be able to see and edit the extended rom. delete all files then unzip the extended rom you downloaded from here and copy all the files across into the folder.
Now hard reset the device
This time allow the extended rom to install ie do not stop at the 3 seconds bit.
NOW browse to my documents and run pocket mechanic.
then run O2 connections only cab
this will then ask you to choose installation choose the bottom one and it will restart your device.
now browse to programs pocket mechanic and follow below
Notification Queue: This can be done later, but it's nice to get familiar with this process whilst your queue is small. Using PM, open the notification queue. You may already (yes!) find some duplicate (yellow icon) sddeamon entries. These seem to replicate during an ActiveSync. You can/must delete all duplicates from time to time. You will also, in future, find some "\.\\Notification.....SCRIPT..." entries. Keep an eye out for these. Most mature within minutes of you finding them, so let them expire. Many are future-dated and tightly back-to-back. These can nearly always (I've never had a regret) be deleted without repercussions. If you don't manage these, they tend to breed, and anyone with XDA experience knows what happens when your queue fills up (failed alarms etc). I'm unclear as to where these come from - undoutedly an app that is not behaving elegantly (regular registration checks etc), and if you follow the steps on this post you should NOT find any - ie the apps here do not seem to be culprits. But, keep an eye open...
Registry cleanup: Again, this can be done later, however you'll soon see the beenfit of doing it now. Using PM, run registry cleaner. You'll get around 6 entries, all of which can safely be deleted. If you did not follow step 1, you may have to examine eahc entry to see if the O2 ROM is messier. The beauty of this step is that from now on, you can safely clean everything that PM finds in the knowledge that it's a leave-behind from an app you installed, and now you can install, de-install, and provided you clean up the directories (easy) you KNOW for sure that you've completely gotten rid of the failed app. Winner!
OK now you can install all the apps you need. I have copied the cab files to the storage card that way if I ever have to hard reset I have everthing, please note I also copied the O2 connections only cab to there.
WELL I am open to comments about this and must stress you do this at your own risk but hell it worked for me and I have as I said the fastest PDA I have ever had.
so over to you guys.. PLEASE note this is in no way my own work it is all thanks to other people on here but hopefully I have put it all in one place..
all comments welcome accept the one that sais Magpies a knob
Hi many people are looking
and a few downloading comments would be good..
does it work any ideas of additions into it etc etc etc
I like it, but for a new Pocket PC user such as myself. It might be hard to follow some of your instructions. But I like the idea of putting Pocket Mechanic in the ExtROM. I was considering of doing this too, but I want to add MemMaid and HandyMenu with Pocket Mechanic.
This would be a temporary use for the ExtROM for now before Buzzzzzz releases the partition hack. Then, I would rather use the ExtROM as part of my internal memory.
I think you need to WARN PEOPLE CLEARLY THAT DELETING FILES FROM ORIGINAL EXT ROM IS NOT GOOD.
And then let them make up their own mind.
I thought about doing what you posted but tbh its too much bother.
It runs OK as it is. All I use this thing for is phone, streaming radio and anime.
In corporate with no crap OEM stuff I havent tested and normal o2 ext rom it works fine.
I wanna say thanks, had some spare time todaylooking after the sick missus and carried out the procedure, dont know if its running much better than my corp install before but it was good fun and easy to follow

New O2 Exec ROM and OzVGA - Lovers or Enemies?

Has anyone else tried to run OzVGA with the new O2 Exec ROM recently released?
I've now tried twice and both times after rebooting into VGA mode it locks on the image with what looks like the sun. I can see the Select and Exit today buttons across the bottom but thats it.
Oh and the signal LED is flashing so at least something is working.
No response from the device at all.
Please tell me someone has seen this and has a fix - I dont think I could handle another hard rest again.
Didn't have these problems with the iMate ROM.
TIA
Jason
ozVGA does not work on the new EXEC/Dopod ROM.
Try another one as attached. I have tested it and it works great!
Bought my XDA Exec a week ago and had been struggling to install OzVGA via downloads from other threads here. Saw your posts here, gave it a go, worked first time. Thanks for the pointer.
Only a small number of font issues with the built-in monitor programs, but the main apps seem to display well. Only unexpected quirk for me is that I can no longer get a fingernail to the Close (red cross) button in the top-right-hand corner - the bezel gets in the way! Still, I'm prepared to sharpen my nails as per a recent thread!
Any clues as to the source - is it a variant of OzVGA, or a different product?
Will this work with the QTEK ROM or is this just specific for O2?
WM5 Changes

ozVGA settings
Fonts
MenuBar Font: Bold 900
System Font: 1200
Hor./Ver. Scrollbar, Min Scrl Thumb: 20
ozVGA: 750, 900, 975, 1200, 1500
Here is the file you need and the instructions. The only difference is that you should not use the files contained in the "Windows Folder Files" of the .rar but download the new and updated dll files for AKU2 from here:VGA files
Extra step: Create a shortcut to VJBigPhoneRes in \windows\startup
Notes:
1. Backup so you don't have to hard reset if anything goes wrong.
2. Before replacing the files in \windows with the ones contained in "vgasystemfiles" make sure you backup the originals.
3. WM5 do not allow overwriting ROM files from your PC. You can however move the files to your SD and do it from there.
4. You will get a new icon on the bottom right hand corner, for VJBigPhoneRes. If for any reason the phone app does not appear correctly just tap on it and "Load and fix phone".
5. The only phone buttons that do not appear correctly are on the PIN input screen but that's not really an issues since you can type the pin and hit enter.
Hope this helps.
Joanna
i've tried this on my O2 exec with what so far seems to be a large ammount of success here. (following the instructions in the last post).
I have reco explorer installed so it makes overwriting the rom based files (power.exe etc).
I recommend that you use something like spb backup to back the device up in its entirity before you do this!
Also it would be good if we had a revert application for the phone vbj stuff but for now , hey , it works if you have a spare 10 minutes to set it up.
I surfed to one of my regular sites via opera and it looks excellent on par with the Zaurus SL-3200 runing firefox.
Previously when i tried this alot of the GFX were mangled. so far i've only found a little bit of mangled GFX.
Hudsons IP Dashboard ends up getting a bit squished but its nothing that ruins the uses of the app. Also looks like the bottom right hand corner of active sync has a little bit of corruption. but its not as if it makes the device un-usable.
I'm looking at it now and it looks EXCELLENT! The one thing that concerns me is battery drain, i would have thought this will effect the battery with it having to draw more of a screen now but i'll keep a check on it.
I'm running the latest 02 rom so I can confirm a large ammount of success and if you use spb backup you can easily restore the device should you need to..
to be fair though, you need good eye sight, i've turned the font up to biggest and it still looks good (also helps a little with spacing).
have a bash, don't be scared!

i tried that, but it wone lest em copythe backlight files etc as the files are read only etc? hoe can i replace them?
anyone? i cant figure it out, or if the worst comes to the worst, how do you remove it? or is that hard reset time?
You can copy the files from the SD into the main memory with Resco Explorer. It will allow you to overwrite ROM files.
The file download now seems to be 404 for me. Please could someone else kindly upload the files so I can have some fun too :]

Various options here mate (listed in order of user level):
In WM5+ you can choose to install to the Storage Card by default - any programs that cannot be installed here will usually tell you when you try, and ask you to try again in the correct folder.
Go get yourself a copy of a program called Pocket Mechanic and it has an option that lets you move programs to your storage card (it changes all the links/shortcuts and reg entries for you) - it can also move the 'My Documents folder and IE cache, too - saving even more space.
Find a program called CECabManager (30 day trial) which lets you edit the cab files for programs and change their default install folder.
WARNING
ALWAYS backup your device before playing around with this stuff - it's a real P.I.T.A. when you have got yourself almost set up, then you destroy the system, or cause a glitch!
My best advice is to go buy a copy of Spb Clone and install that before you fiddle about! Also, backup your PIM data to Outlook, or with Spb Backup, too! Then you're pretty much safe to do what you want, as you can always go back if all goes tits up!

No idea - anyone?
I think that if you have too little space, you'll be in trouble when some programs run as they may need to use it as RAM or a swap file - I've filled it to within a MB or 2 and it has slowed down the system!
See my post in this thread for how I keep space in my Storage area (at the bottom of the second post)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=388249
If you're looking to speed up your system, why not try an overclocking utility?
I've just got Pocket Hack Master - I'm testing it now! I've used Anton's Pocket Mechanic for ages now, and so I'm pretty confident in the quality of the app.
http://www.wizcode.com/products/view/pocket_hack_master
And there is a starter guide here:

Let me know your results!

Thanks again bird
Don't fancy clocking my CPU realy wanting to know if it's worth the effort of hacking all my *.cab files and OEMs to install into sub folders rather than windows\ Idear been Keeping as little as posible in the windows\ "folder" I could have a sleep some times waiting for file explorer to finish opening windows\ was hopeing that if there's less in windows\ the device my run faster with a smaller directory ??
Thanks

Possibly...
You could always try using Pocket Mechanic!!
Instead of hacking the cabs, you could just use Pocket Mechanic - it will move the programs across to your SD card and change all the reg entries, links, etc. for you!
I find that there are some cabs that really don't like to be hacked! But, if that's the route you want to go down (saves having to do it all again in the future), then CECabManager is definitely the way to go! Pretty pricey software, but gives you a nice 30 day trial period to play with it! Just remember to remove any 'setup.dll's' from the tree in the left-hand window if you change anything - can cause the install to muck up if you don't!
And the best bit of software on the net in my opinion is Spb Clone (god I love Spb software - it's just so good!) - once you get your system looking and working how you want it to, just clone the whole thing on to some spare space on your card and you're safe from any general errors! Use Pocket Mechanic to move all your documents, mail and cache folders onto the SD card and you're even safer - go one step further and get Spb Backup to save teh PIM data onto your SD, too and you get ultimate safety (as long as you remember to save reguarly LoL!):
PIM synced with main PC or onto SD with Spb Backup
Documents, mail and cache on SD
Clone of system on SD
Any screw ups, any dodgy software, ANY problems and you just go back a few days!
SORTED!!
Bird
Free even MORE space!!
Found a way to get even more space! Really helpful for me when I want to play certain games, as some of them were refusing to start as they needed more space than I had. I managed to claw back about 8meg, but then I have somewhat overloaded my BAs with about 250 apps/games! )
Using Pocket Mechanic, you can move the AppMgr file from the Windows directory of you BA onto your Storage Card - (the original folder structure will be recreated if you try to install anything new!) - when it's finished, just soft reset your BA and VIOLA! more space in the storage section.
***********NOTE***********
If you want to delete any of your apps - or even install a new version over the top of an old one, you have to move the corresponding folder from the AppMgr folder on your Storage Card back into Windows/ApMgr or the uninstall/reinstall will fail - If you haven't installed anything since you last moved the AppMgr folder, then you will have to create the AppMgr folder before moving the folder of the app you wish to delete.
Have fun,

New to HTC - A Few Handset Questions

Hay all,
I'm new to using an HTC "Have The Blackstone" I got the phone yesterday and love it.
But I have a few questions I cant find an answer too in the manual.
1. Can I changed the sound of the Alarm (Alarm Clock Sound)?
2. Can I change the Text Message recieve sound?
3. In contact if I copy the contacts from the SIM is there a way to only show the contacts
on the handset and not on both the SIM & Hadnset? (like on the Nokia Phones)
4. If I buy games from Handango.com will they work on my handset & how do I installl them, active sinc?
(UK Handset)
5. I've seen a Blackstone running Spore that was ment for a Diamond, I presume sofware for the Diamond is
compatable with the blackstone?
6. I know in some cases you need to go in to the windows folder, how do I get this up?
7.Is there any apps I should use?
Any help would be great
Thanks

Have you actually read the manual? Did you read the wiki? Did you search at all before posting this thread? Did you read the forum rules?
EDIT
As this is your first post so I've decided to help you this time only!!
1. Can I changed the sound of the Alarm (Alarm Clock Sound)? Yes, Go to Settings > Personal > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Event
2. Can I change the Text Message recieve sound? Yes, Go to Settings > Personal > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Event
3. In contact if I copy the contacts from the SIM is there a way to only show the contacts
on the handset and not on both the SIM & Hadnset? (like on the Nokia Phones) Yes, Can be done different ways. One way is through 3rd party apps like HDTweak (See attached file). Can be done other ways but depends on what rom your using
4. If I buy games from Handango.com will they work on my handset & how do I installl them, active sinc? Check compatibility before purchase and check apps thread in wiki. They can be installed either by activesync using .exe format or direct from phone using .cab, but you will most like need sync to get this onto phone first anyhow
5. I've seen a Blackstone running Spore that was ment for a Diamond, I presume sofware for the Diamond is compatable with the blackstone? Not all software between phones is compatible....CHECK FIRST!!
6. I know in some cases you need to go in to the windows folder, how do I get this up? Use file explorer which came preinstalled on phone. Its just like windows exlpoer on your pc. Windows folder is basically /windows similar to c:\windows on your pc. I've added 2 better file explorers for you to use (Total Commander & File Explorer 2)
7.Is there any apps I should use? Yes, again check wiki and apps recommended
1. Can I changed the sound of the Alarm (Alarm Clock Sound)?
A: Yes, from the Home screen tap the clock and select the Alarms tab. Tap on the "Bell" icon, on the next screen you'll see a drop-down list of all the sounds you can play. If you copy a .wav to the Windows directory on your device it should also show up in the list.
2. Can I change the Text Message recieve sound?
A: Yes, From the Home screen tap Start > Settings. Tap Sounds and Notifications. Tap on the Notifications tab. From the Event Drop-Down list select Messaging: New text message. Select the sound you want to play. If you copy a .wav to the Windows\Rings directory on your device it should also show up in the list.
3. In contact if I copy the contacts from the SIM is there a way to only show the contacts
on the handset and not on both the SIM & Hadnset? (like on the Nokia Phones)
A: Not sure as I always keep all my contacts on the phone and none in the SIM.
4. If I buy games from Handango.com will they work on my handset & how do I installl them, active sinc?
(UK Handset)
A; Again not sure, I guess some games will probably install via ActiveSync as they will come as a windows .exe installer, others may come as a .cab, copy to your device storage card and run.
5. I've seen a Blackstone running Spore that was ment for a Diamond, I presume sofware for the Diamond is
compatable with the blackstone?
A: Check out the Software Wiki for working titles http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Software
6. I know in some cases you need to go in to the windows folder, how do I get this up?
A: From the Home screen tap Start > Programs. Tap File Explorer You should see the Windows directory in the list, if not try selecting My Device from the drop-down list at the top.
7.Is there any apps I should use?
A: There are lots of great apps for the Blackstone I personally use Gyrator (rotate the screen for most programs), Total Commander (File Explorer replacement) and Lumos (better backlight management), but there are literally hundreds. Try searching the Forum or looking through the 3 Sticky Forum threads for lots of great advice and tips.

Need help loading new programs

I'm new here so please bare with me. I just bought a used Sprint Mogul and I'm looking to "play" with it a bit. Nothing real crazy as I've been scanning this forum over the last few days waiting for my phone to come in the mail and I just want to keep it simple. I have the programs that I want to load on the phone and I don't need to flash the ROM or anything like that to use these. My question is this. Do I need to unlock my phone to add these programs and how do I load them to my phone ? Do I need a special program to do this or can I just use active sync ? The instructions I have to load the programs are pretty simple but they do not tell me how to install them. Just the order to install them and soft reset etc. I have found some really cool things on this forum about my phone but as much as I have learned I also have alot of unanswered questions as well.
Thanks in advance.
Fairly simple....
If the program you want to install is an .exe file, then you will hook your phone up with the usb cable and let active sync do its thing. Then double click the file to install. Active sync will prompt you with the rest.
If the file is a .cab file, then transfer the file the way it is to your microsd card using the active sync browse. Browse to the folder you want to put it then drag and drop or copy/paste. Then on the phone, tap start/programs/ file explorer. Go to where the .cab file is and tap it! Thats all!
If you install a program you dont want installed anymore you can un-install it through start/settings/system remove programs.
Remember... the programs you use every time your phone is on... like dialer skins, today screen themes, rintones, etc install to device memory! Other programs like games, mp3 songs, videos, ebooks, etc can go to the microsd card!!
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. Sounds pretty simple. I have another question. This is going to sound pretty dumb I'm sure but I'll ask anyway. The programs I'm going to load...will they over write the programs already on the phone ? I understand there is internal memory and this phone seems to be just like a pc. And I know that when memory gets low or used then things tend to slow down and run bad. BTW the programs I'm going to install are Manila2D and a few others. Don't know much about them but a friend of mine had them put on his Mogul and I like the way it looks and runs compared to the "stock" setup.
Thanks again.
I have another question to ask. Is there a way to back up your contacts list ? If I understand it right.....a "hard reset" will wipe your contacts list along with everything else you have put on the phone and not the sd card. Right ?
