New to HTC - A Few Handset Questions - Touch HD General

Hay all,
I'm new to using an HTC "Have The Blackstone" I got the phone yesterday and love it.
But I have a few questions I cant find an answer too in the manual.
1. Can I changed the sound of the Alarm (Alarm Clock Sound)?
2. Can I change the Text Message recieve sound?
3. In contact if I copy the contacts from the SIM is there a way to only show the contacts
on the handset and not on both the SIM & Hadnset? (like on the Nokia Phones)
4. If I buy games from Handango.com will they work on my handset & how do I installl them, active sinc?
(UK Handset)
5. I've seen a Blackstone running Spore that was ment for a Diamond, I presume sofware for the Diamond is
compatable with the blackstone?
6. I know in some cases you need to go in to the windows folder, how do I get this up?
7.Is there any apps I should use?
Any help would be great
Thanks

Have you actually read the manual? Did you read the wiki? Did you search at all before posting this thread? Did you read the forum rules?
EDIT
As this is your first post so I've decided to help you this time only!!
1. Can I changed the sound of the Alarm (Alarm Clock Sound)? Yes, Go to Settings > Personal > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Event
2. Can I change the Text Message recieve sound? Yes, Go to Settings > Personal > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications > Event
3. In contact if I copy the contacts from the SIM is there a way to only show the contacts
on the handset and not on both the SIM & Hadnset? (like on the Nokia Phones) Yes, Can be done different ways. One way is through 3rd party apps like HDTweak (See attached file). Can be done other ways but depends on what rom your using
4. If I buy games from Handango.com will they work on my handset & how do I installl them, active sinc? Check compatibility before purchase and check apps thread in wiki. They can be installed either by activesync using .exe format or direct from phone using .cab, but you will most like need sync to get this onto phone first anyhow
5. I've seen a Blackstone running Spore that was ment for a Diamond, I presume sofware for the Diamond is compatable with the blackstone? Not all software between phones is compatible....CHECK FIRST!!
6. I know in some cases you need to go in to the windows folder, how do I get this up? Use file explorer which came preinstalled on phone. Its just like windows exlpoer on your pc. Windows folder is basically /windows similar to c:\windows on your pc. I've added 2 better file explorers for you to use (Total Commander & File Explorer 2)
7.Is there any apps I should use? Yes, again check wiki and apps recommended

1. Can I changed the sound of the Alarm (Alarm Clock Sound)?
A: Yes, from the Home screen tap the clock and select the Alarms tab. Tap on the "Bell" icon, on the next screen you'll see a drop-down list of all the sounds you can play. If you copy a .wav to the Windows directory on your device it should also show up in the list.
2. Can I change the Text Message recieve sound?
A: Yes, From the Home screen tap Start > Settings. Tap Sounds and Notifications. Tap on the Notifications tab. From the Event Drop-Down list select Messaging: New text message. Select the sound you want to play. If you copy a .wav to the Windows\Rings directory on your device it should also show up in the list.
3. In contact if I copy the contacts from the SIM is there a way to only show the contacts
on the handset and not on both the SIM & Hadnset? (like on the Nokia Phones)
A: Not sure as I always keep all my contacts on the phone and none in the SIM.
4. If I buy games from Handango.com will they work on my handset & how do I installl them, active sinc?
(UK Handset)
A; Again not sure, I guess some games will probably install via ActiveSync as they will come as a windows .exe installer, others may come as a .cab, copy to your device storage card and run.
5. I've seen a Blackstone running Spore that was ment for a Diamond, I presume sofware for the Diamond is
compatable with the blackstone?
A: Check out the Software Wiki for working titles http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Software
6. I know in some cases you need to go in to the windows folder, how do I get this up?
A: From the Home screen tap Start > Programs. Tap File Explorer You should see the Windows directory in the list, if not try selecting My Device from the drop-down list at the top.
7.Is there any apps I should use?
A: There are lots of great apps for the Blackstone I personally use Gyrator (rotate the screen for most programs), Total Commander (File Explorer replacement) and Lumos (better backlight management), but there are literally hundreds. Try searching the Forum or looking through the 3 Sticky Forum threads for lots of great advice and tips.

Sorry xj650. Didn't realise you where also responding!

Cheers guys. My bad on the rulses n things. Shall go and read now
Cheers for the help

Noob question, Edit: Questions

Hi
I'm to receive my new Trinity in two weeks (Family member bringing from US). Will be my fitst PPC, Mostly used as Cellular under Partner. I'm looking for reading material about Trinity. Been surfing the forum for the last few days and must admit I understand very little.
Where do I find "How To", prefferably where they say what all the abriviations (SSPL etc') meen.
Thanks
P.S. The saga continues.
did you seen this site? http://trinityguides.info/
Thanks Thout, will start with here FAQs
have fun with your new phone
OK now
That trinityguide.info is great.
Now that I've "succssefully-virtually-upgraded" my Hard-SPL and Radio and may even have upgraded to a WM6 ROM.
HOW DO (did) I CHOOSE WHICH VERSION I WANT (wanted)? Do (did or maybe, will) I need WM6? After all, I was happy with my Windows98 for a very long time.
I guess I'll read about those ROM versions soon enough, but still, I'm not here to reinvent the wheel, I just want good, mainstream, state-of-the-art programs for my beloved-to-be (I'm sure) Trinity.
Also, what's this about 4/6/8GB MicroSD cards? My biggest fear was being stuck with a 2GB music player, I was thinking about waiting for the N95 8GB (sacrelige?).
And how about high-speed cards (Ultra, UltraII, x60, x80, ec')? Now, that I spend so much on a 8GB card might as well buy a fast one, who has time to wait for 8GBs to upload...
tnx in advance and sorry for the spelling mist.
If I may borrow your topic and ask you... how do you set up an mp3 ow whatever for an alarm ringtone? There are only a few beepings available when taping the bell...
Thanks,
Peter
noob to noob
This is from the HTC website.
I guess you can chose stage 3 from "new text messege" to "alarm".
How do I add an MP3 file to my PDA phone and use it as my SMS alert?
1. Copy the MP3 file from your computer using the USB sync connection (via ActiveSync® or Windows Mobile Device Center) to the \Windows folder on your PDA phone.
2. Tap Start > Settings > Personal tab > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications tab.
3. In the Event list, scroll down and select Messaging: New text message.
4. Make sure the Play sound option is selected. Tap the drop-down list box next to this option, then scroll up or down the list of sounds and select the MP3 file that you copied to your device.
5. Tap OK.
Good luck

Let me try to put something that we can understand better here.
1. Formating the storage card is possible via your device, unless there are software that can do that.
2. You need software like SPB Plus, you can create any shortcut for any applications/file you like to put there in your Today's screen.
3. Delete, move, cut, copy, paste, hide, unhide.... can be done with your File Explorer. Some cooked ROM they bundled together with Total Commander and Resco File Explorer.
4. The .cab files always can be send via bluetooth or infrared to your sister's phone without using the computer.
5. Use PIMbackup to backup your contacts and backup your sms with Jeyo SMS Backup. These 2 already included with the ROM. There is other option that you could backup everything with SPB backup.
6. Sorry, I never change my wallpaper instead of themes available. I am just too old to put all those flowers onto my screen
7. Battery icon is an optional feature, if you would like to get one you can search for 'battery status for ppc' in your search engine. You'll get more than what you look into
In fact you can get more if you read carefully on several pages back, the similar questions had been discussed over and over again or search it over the internet I believe you'll find more and more.
8) My O2 got Re-set automatically. Everything i have installed got lost. First Phone got hang and then it got reset. Every thing on memory card is still there. but shortcut got lost. i can see and run them through explore programe game.

Questions for Usage

Hi There!
I just bought this phone and I am struggling having come from Symbian. I was wondering if some kind person(s) would help point me in the right direction.
1) Bluetooth. How do I "authorize" a device so it makes connection automatically?
2) How do I send multiple contacts to a bluetooth device?
3) Under Contacts
4) Is there a way to unlock the screen without that unlock slider thing? It's very frustrating
5) How do I get a horizontal full qwerty? Seems like mostly I can't get it to come up ? Should it not be available all the time?
6) Under "people" I can't seem to add contacts to that? Is that it's purpose? How does "people" compare to "Contacts"?
7) Below the quicklinks there is a little arrow, but I can't get to what's below it which I think is more quicklinks? How do I add more?
8) Is there any way, even via purchased software, to get voice dialing?
9) Is there a good divx/xvid/x264 player?
10) is there a good backup utility?
Re Roms. It's very confusing for a new person, so many options etc... Can someone recommend a good one? I know they are all different and I am not sure what I want, but I guess speed and battery and stability are all important. I understand I might need to upgrade the radio as well, are they region specific? Will I lose my settings and data if I upgrade? Can I upgrade Roms on W7 x64 or is it like the Symbian where you need XP?
Thanks very much!
about dialing
i was in contact with htc germany .
they said that voice call is not part of the hd2 .
because of microsoft
1 - Connect your bluetooth device, then (if the screen isnt already showing) click settings - menu - all settings - bluetooth. click the device name, and choose properties, tick teh box 'connections authorised'.
2 - dont know
3 - no question?
4 - use a different unlocker? many people like s2u2 which is apparently very configurable.
5 - only available when you are typing, and only comes up in applications that support landscape.
6 - press an empty square, it lets you choose a contact to add.
7 - the litte arrow points down, so you slide the screen up. Click an empty space to add a program or shortcut or contact.
8 - very hit and miss so far. read the apps and themes section.
9 - searcj, there is one that a lot of people use, but i cant remember its name.
10 - again, search, there are a few that many people go for. Personally i dont use one, i just sync my contacts and reinstal programs every hard reset.
I came from symbian. Basically read and read and read this forum and search.
Most of the answers are here and i've asked some of them!
Give it a few weeks and you will be sweet as

SMS Delivery Receipts

I got my brand new HTC HD Mini yesterday and so far I am fairly aggravated. First, I can't find out how to turn on SMS "Delivery Receipt". My provider will provide an SMS that say that the SMS I sent was received and my HTC Touch (elf) would play an alarm. Second, I would like to be able to play AVI files. I tried to load TCMCP but get an error message when I try to open the software. Also MS reader won't scroll - or I don't know how to get it to scroll (take your choice) and finally and most embarrassing I have have a devil of a time learning to use the the touch screen for keying SMS and Email. It's a struggle.
I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas.
Thanks,
Humphster
As far as I can translate my interface (my on rus).
In Sense menu -> select Messages -> Left soft (All sms/mms) -> Right soft (Menu) -> Config -> Parameters
Bingo! Works great. Many, many thanks.
I got the answer to playing avi files in the Themes and Apps forum. The answer is the Coreplayer but it has to be configure just so. I can't help but wonder why HTC advertise that the Mini will play AVI file when it clearly won't.
hey this izz nt HTC's fault...actually avi comes in various variants...

[Q] A Few Questions About HTC Touch2

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I just got my hands on the HTC Touch2 Non-Camera version which is the same as HTC Touch2 with camera and is exclusively for Singapore Market only due to me working in a military enviroment. This is my 1st ever touch screen phone. I have a few questions that I would like to ask:
1. Is there any way that I can remove some of the tabs on the Home Screen Tabs Bar? If yes, can I do it within the phone itself or do I have to install a 3rd party software to my phone to achieve this?
2. If I have to use a 3rd party software to remove some of the tabs on the Home Screen Tabs Bar, which 3rd party software would be the most user friendly and easy to use that you guys would recommend?
3. Can I Add new tabs (e.g phone book) to the Home Screen Tabs Bar?
4. Also, can I create different ringing profiles for different enviroment and select them easily? For e.g:
i) In a meeting, I would like my phone to vibrate only for all calls, SMS etc.
ii) In a exam, I would like my phone not to vibrate or ring at all.
I remembered Nokia phones are able to create different profiles for different enviroments and I just need to activate them with just a few buttons pressed.
Thanks in advance.

Hi fellow Singaporean!
There's a sound mode called "Automatic" that allows you to set ur Mega to Vibrate during appointments u create in calender, but normal otherwise. If you need your phone to be silent during a certain part of every day, create an event in calender and set it to repeat every day at the selected timing.
For the tabs thing, use M2DC. It's very user friendly. You can add/delete tabs and even modify the entire TouchFlo through themes and other tweaks.
Hope to be of help

OK, M2DC, like many other apps around, do NOT have any official website, but they usually have an official thread on this forums. Just download and install M2DC(copy the cab to your phone and open it) It should appear in the start menu. Just play around with it. About the backup thing, if you have outlook you can use ActiveSync(XP) or WM Device Centre(Vista/7) to sync ur phone with outlook. Also, use Microsoft MyPhone to backup your phone. You should have Microsoft MyPhone reinstalled.
thanks for the reply! does that mean that there is no such thing as a "Full backup" that includes all the os settings etc?
I know of something called PIM Backup or something but I never really tried it. MyPhone will backup contacts, messages and documents/pictures/video. That's good enough for me.
Hello,
PIM manager is personal information manager to backup & restore your contacts, messages, calendar, etc...
It's a must to have program works very easily and smoothly on all WM versions.
For a full backup, you can use SKTools. It has many many functions among them is backup that can backup whatever you want including full system even SD Card if you like.
Best of wishes.
