Hi,
I have bought an uses hw6915 device, which works fine, except for EDGE. I´m connecting to web.vodafone.de (Germany) without any problems while in GPRS. As soon as I´m approaching an EDGE network and the [E] appears, the data transfer is stopped, server can´t be reached but the device is logged into the EDGE network.
Phone works in EDGE network as long as I´m not connected to APN.
Does anyone has a clue? Could the device defective or is it a strange configuration problem?
Is there a way to swith off EDGE in registry?

Perhaps the carrier that runs that EDGE enabled tower doesn't have a data roaming agreement with Vodafone. That would cause you to become disconnected once you hit that EDGE tower.
Just an idea, as I'm not sure how data roaming agreements work in Europe.
EDGE is just an extension to GPRS. and only between both supporting radio's (both network and client device). If you dont see the E for EDGE coverage, chances are you just aint in range of an EDGE enabled transmitter. Most countries that have 3G wont bother using EDGE, orange in the UK say that EDGE is only really used as a fall back when you are out of 3G range.
I dont know of any way to force EDGE use, and if there is Id like to hear it! GPRS sucks!
It was a technical error. HP replaced the mainboard, now it works great...

I'd like to use ONLY GPRS and not EDGE. Is this possible?
I don't know of a way to do that (not to say it can't be done though). Out of curiousity, why do you not want to use EDGE?
I've been having intermittant problems with my EDGE/GPRS connection dropping. None of the usual fixes such as upgrading the radio rom, etc. seemed to help. One of the other threads here suggested that it was a network issue, and that the problems started since t-mobile implemented EDGE. My previous phone which only had GPRS, never had any issues, so I was curious to know if there was some connection between EDGE and intermittant disconnections.
I recently spoke with a tech support rep about the same problem. Turns out that they haven't allocated enough of the network to the MDA itself (EDGE will work fine on other devices). They don't know when the problem will be fixed and until then, you should go to connections, manage existing connections, click new, select cellular GPRS, and then internet2.voicestream.com. This will fix your problem, get you some EDGE speed, even thought it won't be nearly as fast as it should. I plan on complaining until the refund some of my data plan charge.
The same problem - with no solution ..
Actually I dont understand what you mean by not allocating enough network to MDA ..
Could you please explain it ?
I'm on AT&T, and I have the same problem. GPRS, whilst slow, is reliable. 3G/HSDPA is fast, even with very low signal strength. But EDGE is awful. Sometimes it works, but it's usually unbearably slow, if it works at all. There is a long time lag when the data mode (GPRS/EDGE/3G) switches to EDGE. ... and the problem is espeically bad when there's moderate to low signal (1-2 bars).
I'd like to be able to disable EDGE too, and use GPRS, without having to use 3G (as there's no coverage when I could use GSM coverage).
Kamskii, I think the confusion is that you're not using a Wizard, and this board is for Wizard users. You should repost this question on the Kaiser General board.
after updating my jamin with the latest rom the network icon now shows "E" instead of "G" although I dont have EDGE technology and I use GPRS. I successfully made a GPRS connection and after disconnecting it shows "G" for a while then turns back to "E"!!!! anyone experience the same problem!?
this is not a problem. If your network is able to work with Edge, it will appear "E" and than when you connect it will appera "G" (because your device don´t have EDGE). This icon it represents what your network is able to offer.
the problem is; I KNOW THAT MY PROVIDER DOESNT HAVE EDGE!!!

who is your provider? as far as i know all providers in the use who is capable of using this phone on thier network is edge capable. outside of the small mom and pops. cingular/tmobile/cellularone are all edge capable.
sorry just read this thread over at hf.
I've had this . It momenterily shows the E and then reverts back to G. I am with Orange UK and I am in a Strong 3G network cell. I know that Orange are suposed to running edge out to areas with no 3G but not sure when.
I can only assume that it is picking up an edge signal from somewhere. To tell you the truth I wish I saw the E all the time . That would at least give me edge speeds .
This is defo a problem (Well doesn't hinder the phone). I was using my Jamin with copilot which was connected the whole time to Copilot Live via a GPRS connection. If I come out of the copilot screen and initiat a call the G symbol changes to an E . It then reverts back to a G when the call finishes.
Maybe your provider is doing some EDGE testing?
i am not aware of this?Or is there a software to enable this ?
yes the wizard works with edge. there is a hack to enable an indicator to show if you are connected to edge or gprs, but edge should work regardless. This indicator can be enabled by using RegistryWizard as well.
Is the registry hack just for the indicator ?
As far as the specs shows Wizard only has GPRS built in,how will u enble EDGE ?Or does it automatically work on EDGE also ?
As far as I know from personal experience and This T-mobile. com page, it is edge out of the box. I find the indicator quite useful, however (it appears as a small E or G in a box on the top bar near the signal...)
I'm running the latest cingular/summiter rom and it jumps for E to G every now and then. Isn't edge available when your accessible to GPRS?
Yes the wizard is capable of edge speeds and will use it when there is that availability on the network. Not all gprs networks have edge.
Ive got a question on this. I have a wizard with T-mobile and I am in a very covered city. but my T-mobile only says connecting to GPRS... like when i try loading a page, it says connecting to t-mobile GPRS, it never says EDGE. What is up with that. how do i fix it to load up EDGE?
EDGE is nothing but Enhanced GPRS. It is always "over" GPRS. So we always see a GPRS connection being made.
Have a look at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enhanced_Data_Rates_for_GSM_Evolution
"EDGE (also known as EGPRS) is a superset to GPRS and can function on any network with GPRS deployed on it, provided the carrier implements the necessary upgrades."
As far as the icon is considered, it will be "E" or "G" depending on if the "enhancements implemented" are working at the time or at the transmitters (towers) in the area.
So when it changes from E to G there really is a difference, not just a worthless symbol..
Also how can i test my connection speed on my wizard? I went to dslreports.com and did there wap tests and it told me 3kb/s which i highly doubt is my speed because it loads everything pretty fast.
use the HTML tests, not the WAP... They are much more accurate.
HI Everyone:
I just got my HTC P3650 Cruise and have problems connectiong to the regular Edge network with AT&T. I don't have 3G or HSDPA in the location that I'm at and it take a long time to search and lock in on the network. It is also very slow. I have a Tilt and it works perfect in Edge and 3G.
when I travel and go into a 3G/HSDPA area, the phone works like it is on broadband. I searches and receives the AT&T network instantly like my tilt and works without problems. It does not have a strong signal when it gets between buildings and inside concrete structures. My tilt has a lot better reception.
Is anyone having this same problem? Do you know of any setting that will correct this condition. I already changed the band setting from auto to specific for AT&T. It does not make a difference.
I have the HTC branded TyTn II. My problem is not exactly as yours but something similar. My TyTn II on an edge connection barely gets a download speed of 100 kbs. When I put the same SIM in my old HTC branded Touch I can occassionally peak at 200 kbs. So the edge speed on my TyTn II is usually half of what I can get on my Touch.
Obviously this is not an operator related problem as I am using the same SIM Card between the two devices. I don't have 3G in my country and the best is EDGE what I can get. Any suggestions or similar experiences would love to hear.
Edge Problems
I just flashed the radio 1.64.08.21 and it does not seem to make any difference on the network. I have not tried it in a 3G r HSPDA network yet.
Anyone else having problems connecting with the Polaris? When I change sims and putit into my tilt it works on all networks and flies. I don't know if AT&T is doing something to enhnace the phone on their network with all their applications. The only thing different is that I use a proxy server on the tilt.
Hello everybody, is there any software who lock the Edge connection? I mean: ok for 3G or HSDPA connections, but when connection swith to EDGE, I'd like it to fall. I guess you can understand what's my problem: I have a H3G Italian flat data account, but it's free (100MB/day) only under 3G or HSDPA connection. Sometimes, while travelling, the connection automatically switch to EDGE... and I START PAYING!!! Problem is that if I'm not looking at the phone, I can't see it and I loose money for nothing... It would be better to deny EDGE connection AT ALL!!! Any Idea?
I already have GData software, very good to enable or disable the complete connection setting... anything better?

tried NoData by modaco?
maybe not yet... where can I find it?
Well, it's very easy (in my case). Go to
Start -> Settings -> Telephone (or Phone maybe) -> Band
and select
WCDMA
well, I don't know if these are the right steps for you, because I've a german ROM.
