Today marks the second time my power button was broken ( wont turn the Wiz on or off) since I bought it used from a friend. I got it to work by eventually loading XM6 (thanks mfrazzz) ROM, and then it started to work, but after I dropped it recently, no go. Is it safe to say it's time for me to get a new phone, or try to solve this power button issue?
I think it's the problem with the power button (switch). I had this problem a few months back. Eventually I had to replace that tiny switch in the mainboard (bought a spare switch and do the soldering myself). Works perfectly afterwards.
If you're comfortable with operating the wizard yourself then, you know, go ahead.

hi there may i ask where you bought the switch? i have some hardware problems on my wizard and i need to buy parts for it. thank you. your reply would be a great help.
Sorry I didn't mention that but I live in Viet Nam and things like that you can find easily in electric stores where they fix small devices like pda, phones, cameras...

My HTC Hermes fell on the floor. Fortunately, it remained largely undamaged except for two little things: The on-button and the camera-button do not respond anymore when I press them. However, the buttons do not seem to be completely destroyed: They just seem somehow disadjusted. I notice that from the sound and the movement when I try to press them. I might be able to get them back to work if I could just open the device or at least use clamps to pull the button and readjust it.
Has anybody ever had similar problems, or could give me any hint as to how to fix it without breaking the device.
Of course there is no warranty, otherwise I wouldnt be so foolish as to try to open it up or use clamps.
Thanx in advance for any hints.
Cheers

are u 100% there is no warranty? even if you bought it from ebay try contacting htc directly.. dont tell them u dropped the phone obviously.

The Hermes is actually quite durable. Chances are the button switches just need tweaked back into position.
Have a look here under Hermes Practical Fixes.
http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com
One really obvious/not so obvious thing to check is that the battery is still in position. One report I saw was where a guy dropped his Hermes, thought it was totally dead but it was just that the battery was just out of position.

hi everybody.
some weeks ago i bought a new casing for my trinity on ebay. as I had to open my trinity while on a long trip far away from home and htc tech support (the "hang up" button broke), i had already broken my guarantee. so i decided to change the casing myself. i managed to do that (it was not easy!!) and closed the casing and everything was alright, but some days later trinity started to have graphics issues. sometimes it hangs and the display gets kind of scrambled, when i reset it it posssibly doesn't show anything on the screen or it hangs during the boot, sometimes it helps simply shutting the device down and restarting, sometimes it helps pressing the left side of the casing (front and back casing elements) together.
what can that be? at the moment it works alright, but this is not ok for me. somebody with hardware know-how can tell me which part can be the "bad one" and what i can do to fix that? i don't want to pay the repair fee at htc tech partner, and i want to wait till the htc touch cruise is available to buy a new one!
thanks

Hi, I did similar thing...I assembled my trinity to change case to white. After the LCD did not work at all.
Of course service said, I broked garantee, and there is some problem with LCD cable plug.
what did the repair cost?
did you go to HTC? did they change the display plug?
it's a very subtle error in my case...
How To Disassemble HTC P3600
I also want to change my casing.
From what I hear ... this may be not such a good idea.
Hoever ... all I can help with is this disassemble manual for HTC P3600 (http://rapidshare.com/files/82751326/How_To_Disassemble_HTC_P3600__Trinity_.pdf.html).
Maybe disassembling, cleaning all the plugs and assembling it again can help (sounds stupid ... but who knows).
thanks ..
one of the problems with the casing i bought was that the metal counterparts of the screws were not(!) present in the new one. so i had to cut them out of the old one, heat them and press them into the new case. luckily, i had ordered two new casings (to change it again after some months when the grey/silver paint would have fell off till total aesthetic destruction - of this otherwise really slick phone - again), because trying to press that counterpart (don't know the word) without heating resulted in total damage
then I had hoped that not only the keypad, but also the electronics plate under the keypad (my "hang up" button still isn't perfect i have no "klicky" feel any more) would be included. no luck here.
so everybody please stay away from trying to change casings or any other hardware issue with your htc phones. i am opening my htc/qtek (before: s100, three units) phones for a longer time now and must say i will stop doing that and return to being a "normal" user. it all gets worse
thanks
I just remembered ... take a look at this site: http://cnn.cn/shop/p3600-trinity-c-277_278.html
All the stuff looks genuine ... maybe this casing will fit you better and there are spare touch screens also.
P.S. White casing DOES NOT peel.

I went to E-care, the HTC support in Hungary. I was lucky, the expert repaired it free, but in the future there is no garantee
Lucky you ... there is HTC support where you live
my LCD screen broke.
I have replaced my LCD screen because it was cracked, the new screen does not even power up. I can hear wm6 running in the background but the digitizer nor the screen seem to be responding at all. If use the old screen it seems to work fine.
Any ideas or comments on how to get this new screen working?
btw, I have a gen1 htc p3600.

Hello Gents and Gals. I am trying to fix my friends HD2, I flashed his ROM with Energy couple of months ago and all was working fine. He gave the phone back to me saying that it is locked.
I tried unlocking the phone but it seems that the screen is unresponsive, so I flashed it again by going into the boot loader screen "Volume Up + Power Button". The phone stated that it is starting for the first time but the screen was still unresponsive. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? Or do I need to tell him to send the phone back to HTC for repairs?
Sounds like the touch screen died ....
Time for a repair ..
Also this really should have been posted in general , as it is not a ROM release , just an FYI
Aww okay. I'll let him know. Thanks.
I'll post like this in General next time. Tks.
HI, I have now the same problem after ROM Flashed, did you solve the problem by yourself, or really the touch screen died.
Rgds
Same thing with me. I ordered new digitizer+LCD and changed them, but the screen is still unresponsive. Other ROM didn't help.
Some advices?
i seen this happen with several phones, reflash to stock and send to HTC they will repair it for free.
I have same problem, yet my phone was bought 18 months ago...worked perfectly until now.
Can a touch screen get defective after normal usage ?

Yes it can, if your touch functionality of your HD2 has stopped working then your digitizer has probably went out.

This is usually due to the replacement components not being properly installed. Also when one is working with the internals they have to be very careful as some of the internals are very easy to break without you even knowing you did. So the cases you spec of are more than likely not because it was not the Digitizer or LCD was not the problem, but human error.
i fixed mine and it didnt cost me
the unresponsive screen maybe the digitizer buts its more likey the end call button, believe it or not dirt can get behind the contact or because the back button is next to we use the far edge of the end call button thus leading to bending the contact, when any of this happens your screen will be unresponsive
you can either take it to a shop and pay for a new screen and digitizer or take it apart and clean the contacts
go to ifixit for step by step guides
hope that helps

I have no idea what are you talking about, that doesn't make sense, as far as I know is no direct relation between END button and (non-working/responding) touchscreen: you may even disconnect/replace bottom buttons ribbon/flex from motherboard and touchscreen will work if OK(or not, if defective).
Is there anybody who can confirm this(or not)?
3 weeks ago I had a LCD/digitizer replaced (cracked screen, but was still working) all was great till 2 days ago. Screen stopped working - took it back to the place I had replace the screen and they tried 3 brand new screens and still no go. Ended up being my main board - luckily I had a spare HD2 and they pulled that board and all is well again.
Believe it or not your LCD/digitizer might be fine - find someone or a way to test main board would be where I would start after the last 3 days.
Good luck
PS - I did NOT try the end button idea prior to the repair.

I also have a 2009 htc hd2 on which screen does not work.
I'd like to know if it's
- a common problem
- is it possible that it's a software (flashing) issue
- can it be replaced and for how much

From my own experience :
1. It's a common issue, there are hundreds of reports in this forum and I read them all because I had the same problem some months ago
2. Probably not. It's generally hardware-related and often the digitizer (touch responsive screen) . Brief explanation : There's a flaw in the design of the HD2, the thin cable wiring the digitizer to the motherboard, is just below the power button. After some extensive use of your powerbutton, it might happen that the power button touches the cable and cause some kind of shortcut in it which makes the digitizer unresponsive to the motherboard.
3. I replaced mine here : http://www.htcphonerepairs.co.uk/ . Fast repair, secure shipping to Belgium, good price and excellent customer support. (Sounds like advertizing but I swear to be only a happy customer )
There are also multiple videos on youtube explaining how replacing the digitizer yourself if you dare !
Also, I read answers saying that you can somewhat "play" with your buttons (especially the power one) to turnaround the problem. That's correct, BUT it's absolutely inevitable that the problem with come back again if you use the buttons, and you'll have to force more and more to unblock again and repeat again and a again... and that will damage your button bar.
I did this during almost 2 months and that put down all my buttons and now they are really close to the chassis which is very annoying. If only I knew it before I would have replaced the digitizer directly !
For 6 months with my new digitizer + using ICS with soft buttons, I have no problem at all !

Just because this dude has "no idea" it doesn't mean he knows it better.
It IS the END button that gets pressed too often and at some point it begins to mess with the digitizer connection. It can be dirt. It can just be the cable came lose and needs tightening, it can be wear-out.
whatever it is, it is caused by the end-key being too close to the connector cable.
If you guys only searched for this on the HD2 Forums before posting this Thread hat not been necessary. It is the most well known design flaw of the HD2 and as such well documented and commented here.

You didn't get it right or at all:
END key may determine touchscreen failure along the time(being the CAUSE! of this), but the EFFECT is an unusable touchscreen, which cannot be repaired in any other way than replacing it(the touchscreen!!, I mean).
Any other attempt to repair, clean, bend, press, cut or whatever WILL NOT FIX an already faulty touchscreen (even caused by END button excessive or not usage) and who thinks otherwise, no problem with me: SWEET DREAMS!
You sound like my comment hurt you. Sorry if it did. I'm not one hundred percent sure that this issue can be fixed without replacing the screen, yet fairly certain. I've now disassembled two HD2 and couldn't quite find the precise spot where the damage occurred, yet after properly assembling the devices again, one came back alive, the other not. The one which has the screen and buttons not working right is the one that got thrown at me by a kind person. It most likely has physical damage somewhere, although I couldn't locate it. The other one didn't get damage and has screen and buttons work well after complete disassembly and assembly.
Both devices also have different screen types.
I now gave up both devices and am withdrawing myself from the HD2 world. Too many issues with the devices getting old.

Hey y'all,
I am having a weird problem. I have an HD2 wich worked great. Now after some time I am having a problem with the phone waking up. When it's active and unlocked, the touchscreeen works great, but when I turn off the screen and turn it back on, it won't let me unlock it. The touch screen just doesn't seem to work any more.
So I thought maybe relfashing could help. Said and done - reflashed Android > didn't work. Wiped, flashed WP7 > didn't work.
After some time and trying 3457 times, it works sometimes and once it is unlocked everything works well. But it's unusable this way.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
JR
I had this problem yesterday. I bought my phone second hand, it had a brandnew touchscreen, the previous owner dropped it.
after 3 months (yesterday) it started woring really bad. 8/10 times it wouldnt work.
I got my hands on a HD2 which was bricked (epic fail) for 10 bucks and swapped my mainboard. it works flawlessy again. Im guessing the replaced digitizer was a cheap knockoff from China.

My friend's phone has the same issue. Touchscreen works if you wake up the phone by back button, but it does not if you wake up with power button. Did you try that?
The most strange thing is, it is the same when on windows or android, as you said.

Hey there.
After some searching I found out, that the digitizer is messed up. The thricky thing is: The digitizer hardware is located right beneath the power button. This is what is causing the problem (the power button was messed up a little also). So if you are experiencing the same issue - try pushing the power button a little harder. That might make you able to wake up the phone.
I would have to renew the digitizer, wich is a real pain and a lot of work. You'll get a new HD2 for around 130€ and the digitizer costs about 60€ I guess. Plus all the work and the risk of f***king it.
SO - my choice will be a new one. HD2 is just a great phone because of it's community!
or get a bricked on for less like I did. Swapping the mainboard is really easy if you take the time and use the iFixit repair guide. I used a hair dryer to ease up the internals by heating it up and with a suctioncup I pulled the internals right out of the shell.
the copper sticker is a real pain in the ass though... But its doable.
You'll need a T5 torx screwdriver.
Oh and I love the HD2 community no doubt about it

I have the same problem, you think it gets resolved by buying a new digitizer? I was told the problem is not that main board but only the digitizer so not worth the hassle of getting a bricked phone I assume.
Thanks

A nonresponding digitizer can be caused by many things. I´ve heard of the end key messing with the touchscreen controller and vice versa.
I had a replacement digitizer on my HD2, it stopped working and now I have a genuine digitizer.
The genuine screen is just much much much better. It just feels much better. It´s more ´slick´. And less grime attracting.
Look in the general section for people who have bricked their HD2 and PM them and offer them money

Buy yourself an appropriate touchscreen!
Hi,
I owe a Nexus 4 since Nov. 2013, purchased from Play Store.
I noticed that the buttons began to behave very weired recently.
The power and Volume Down buttons are tricky, and when pressed lightly as before they don't produce any response. I have to press them hard.
It started a week ago, and deteriorated very fast.
I use the phone with Ringke Fusion case from day 1, Which is water sealed and the buttons don't get any water. And didn't drop it.
It might be cheap material of the phone.
Now what is the solution ?
Are buttons covered under warranty ?
Should I use an alternative apps and Kernels (S2W, D2W)
or should I fix them at a local shop ?
Thanks very much.

Same thing happened on the power button of my N4. Correctly working -> tricky -> doesn't work
If you are ok with it (risks, warranty lost, ...), you can try to fix it by yourself, as i did.
Remove the back cover (2 T5 Torx screws), then remove the black obtrusive plastic frame covering the motherboard (fixed by >10 screws)
Now you should be able to access the different buttons.
When removing the non/hardly working buttons, you should be able to see the connectors on the button (the ones making contact with the motherboard) more or less crooked. Just straighten them in order to make them touch correctly the motherboard during pression.
Hope this helps.
I had the same problem and after removing back cover problem was solved.
Same problem here. My buttons are very hard to push sometimes, but man...I am experience in computer hardware and stuff but I am somehow not confident enough to srew off my phone... :/
